Shows attic vent sticking out of ceiling.

We were looking for a contractor to remodel our kitchen in our 1902 home and were having a difficult time doing so. I reached out to Jacob after remembering he contacted me in regard to doing some graphic design work... In late 2019, Jacob and his interior designer came to our home for a walk through and to do a mock up of floor plans (for the entire living area or the house). My mom who is the owner of the house paid every bill in full and on time. We chose to work with Jacob and his crew late 2019. After some consideration, we decided to do a partial home remodel with electrical updates completed to the entire house (uncompleted to date). Understandably, Jacob decided to step away from doing any work on houses at the start of the pandemic which we appreciated. When we were able to though, we decided to not move forward working with him for a number of reasons. When we reached out requesting the amount of money in escrow (almost $15K) to be returned to us with the list of concerns and problems, he responded by asking for a meeting. We decided not to do this as we feel uncomfortable working with Jacob because of how the project unfolded / lack of communication. I have reached out a few times recently and have not heard anything back from him. He still has my mom's money. Contract states: "Home Owners may terminate this Agreement at any time, but shall provide Contractor with fifteen days written notice..." Jacob's bookkeeper also commented that any amount left over in Escrow would be returned to us at the end of the job. Below is only a partial list of our list of compliments and complaints. Positive points in working with Jacob: *Local to our neighborhood *Has design background *Early on, there were a few workers gutting different rooms of our house. It wasn't one man crew. Negative points in working with Jacob: *Pushy when asking my mom to sign the contract, she did not have time to read through the entire document. Jacob was in the room with us the entire time waiting for her to sign same. *Specification sheet - every other page to this document is missing... *Cabinet maker shared with us that Jacob told how much money in Escrow we had left. This is private information. *Everything seemed to happen too fast yet here we sit with an unfinished house. *Windows - My mom requested windows different from the ones we already have which cut down on the sun from coming in. The wrong windows were ordered. *One meeting we had with Jacob which was over four hours long... he had us choose a shower w/out seeing it in person. He printed off a photo of it with the short write up. He requested my mom to sign her name next to it possibly because of the window dilemma noted in the last bullet. *Overcharging for different steps (ex: asbestos test paid for out of pocket / charged again on bill, ex: found name of another client on bill - may have paid to have their debris removed -this was unclear to us). *Horrible communication and a lot of assuming by Jacob. Crew was pretty good at providing communication, however Jacob was not. *Scheduled different flooring subcontractors to come by when he already knew what direction we were going in. (ex: having flooring people come by to provide an estimate when Jacob already knew we wanted Marmoleum). *Laundry attic vent incorrectly installed by Jacob himself (I remember him saying, he could do the job as his stepdad is a plumber). Drips into laundry room. When faced with this, everyone from the bookkeeper (yes, the bookkeeper) to the foreman blamed it on our roof being old. A boot was placed around the vent and the leak still persists. We had roofing contractors not associated with this contractor look at the work, inside the attic and on the roof who told us the problem was not with the roof. We had a plumber look at it who told us the vent was leaking because the pipe was laid out incorrectly / and as a result was collecting water. Then we had an inspector look at it and were told that the contractor should have used new pipes for the entire project, not new on already existing pipes which is the reason for the leak. Thankfully, the attic is dry where this vent pipe is, however the ceiling drywall needs to be replaced. Attic vent also juts out of ceiling and it looks completely unfinished. *About 2 days before the pandemic, several pieces of molding, trim picture railing, window casings and doors, were taken from our property to have paint removed. These items have not been returned to our property. Pieces are original to our 1902 home. *We have not been able to use our kitchen due to room being incomplete / laundry is off of kitchen. *For the entire area which was remodeled, only one door is present. No doors are present to the entries for the bathrooms, basement or one of the bedrooms. *Every single room was touched and is unfinished. More to follow...

I first met Jacob when he came to my property out of genuine curiosity after hearing about a water intrusion issue I was struggling with.

Definition of perfection! Not only is their work great, but Anton was so so helpful. Communicative, punctual, and was happy to answer all my crazy questions/concerns. Already reached out to him about another project and will 100% be using them for my last bathroom redo in the future.

I've already hired him to do some more work following the main renovation and I'll be hiring him for more future work. Now for some details: We bought an apartment in Portland but we were still living in NYC, so the entire renovation was done remotely. Anton was very easy to communicate with. He handled receiving all the materials and fixtures, and even let me send some items to his home (like a bathtub!) so it doesn't disturb my new neighbors. He also brought in my regular mail. I actually got compliments from my neighbors for how Anton's workers helped them with some random stuff. Anton promised and delivered on finishing the renovation before we moved in. While it was a pretty tight schedule, I kept making it harder on Anton by increasing the scope as the renovation progressed (because I was so happy with the work). Even though I kept adding more work, Anton was still able to finish everything by the time we moved in. He and his team are very dedicated hard workers. There are no surprises when you get the bill either, prices are given upfront and that's what you see at the end. As for the work itself - very high quality throughout the vast range of different tasks (flooring, replacing exterior windows, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, replacing kitchen counter etc.). Anton was able to squeeze every inch of space, upgrading our kitchen substantially - shifting some existing cabinets to make more room for a bigger fridge, increasing the size of the sink to the absolute maximum given the existing cabinets (which we didn't want to replace) and even installing an imported faucet that doesn't match the US voltage (for boiling water) or plumbing fittings. I'm so happy with the work he did for us and I hope you hire him too.

From the beginning, Alan was methodical, communicative and prompt. He showed up to give us an estimate and answered my numerous questions about the job at hand. By the end of the same day of his initial visit, we had a detailed estimate in email, which we approved. Our house was remodeled in the past with uniqueness and quality materials in mind, but with 80% completion on many aspects. We needed a contractor who could help complete our unique vision. Alan replaced a large area of cedar shakes on the back of our home, helping erase the evidence of a decayed deck we previously removed. He also crafted a solution for a corner where the previous homeowner didn't seal up the house properly. Alan was organized and gave great attention to detail. He communicated his arrival and departures each day, and ended up finishing ahead of schedule. I am super happy with the level of attention that was paid to each detail of the job, and will hire Alan again for a future project.

If you need work done on your house, hire Rob. I can't sing his praises loudly enough…read more Two years ago, my husband and I purchased a house that is 100 years old. It is in decent shape, but we wanted to do a lot of work to turn it into our dream house. Rob has been our go-to man throughout this extensive process, and we can't imagine having done it without him. In fact, without him, I don't think it could have gotten done, or rather it would have been MUCH harder (me having to find people for each job), and slower. Rob can do everything. He has replaced every door in our house, all door knobs, hinges and other hardware, all lighting fixtures. He has updated the closets and replaced closet doors. He has replaced our front door and the entire frame. He took out and then covered over this weird door that made no sense and that I wanted to simply be a wall. We want to renovate both bathrooms, and he will do this, and I know he will complete them in a timely manor and that his work will be excellent. He will also be installing a hot tub for us. As I write this, Rob is replacing a rotten stretch of fencing in our backyard and a gardening shed that is attached to the fence. Oh, and how can I forget the most significant project he did for us? He created a custom floor to ceiling bookshelf that spans the entire wall of our living room, and it is beautiful. Rob is professional, skilled, honest, and responsive (he returns phone calls quickly!!!!), and his work is excellent. (As I said, our house is 100 years old, so it's full of irregularities, and Rob has mastered all of them to create exactly what we wanted.) Rob can do everything. His knowledge and skills are vast. In the future, whenever I want anything done, Rob will be my go-to contractor. I cannot recommend Rob highly enough.
