J&R is the worst place to take your car the owner is very unprofessional with dealing with customers.they had my truck for 3 months took it to there shop for a high ideal program. After 3 weeks they called and told me that the motor was junk now when it was dropped off it was a running and driving. They're local & everyone in the area told me NOT to go to them for anything. Not even a flat tire. I took my chances for routine maintenance & he or his tech ruined my vehicle. I went here the first time was a good experience beginning of 2024 when they replaced water pump and belt. We got back on the toad and could drive again down the highway 2024. However, July 2025, I asked if they knew how to rethread a stripped bolt hole on ignition coil and they agreed to that work for under $200. They told me they could rethread the bolt holder for ignition coils. Drove there over 100 miles and got there no problems on the way and they said they couldnt do the work anymore because its plastic and turned around charged me the same amount to diagnose my truck when I never agreed to anyother work/diagnosis. I said to rethread the bolt holder first before anyother work or diagnosis. By the end of the appointment to rethread the bolt holder only, instead they took spark plugs out and messed around with stuff that was just repaired somewhere else and worked perfectly and messed up my truck again with same codes came back on. They was trying to keep our truck and say it was suddenly undriveable anymore after driving all the way from Lafayette, IN zero codes and no engine light had come on over 100 miles until they decided to diagnose it and pull out the spark plugs again without my permission. Ended up paying diagnostic fee almost $200 when they never even rethreaded the stripped bolt holder since they said it was plastic. Now my truck is overheating after being messed with on a new diagnosis fee I never agreed too? Came there to rethread a bolt hole only! They wanted to keep my truck and charge me double and more than the dodge dealer for new repairs I never asked them for! All they needed to say was they could not do the work instead of messing with stuff that was working perfectly fine on the way there from Lafayette? Instead charged me almost $200 for more problems and Derek was super obsessed with the electric tape and even pulled it off my ignition coil wires on my truck? Come on now, electric tape does not hurt anything, but pulling out spark plugs and messing around with stuff again can when you dont need to pull out spark plugs to rethread a ignition coil bolt holder anyways? read more

My daughters and I broke down on the side of the highway on a Sunday evening as a storm was breaking. We were able to drive our vehicle to the Love's truck stop, but felt it was unsafe to drive the additional hour and a half home. The manager at the truck stop gave us names of 3 locals tow/garages to try. Not only did Jeff pick up his phone, but he was so helpful in guiding what I should do. We made arrangements for him to tow my vehicle the next morning and my husband drove up to get us. J & R worked on it first thing Monday, did a full check up, then contacted us with the details. We found everything to be acceptable and priced fairly, so we approved all the work. It was to be done within the next two days. Since we are an hour and a half away, we asked if my husband took the train there, could someone pick him up and take him to their place of business, which was about 15 minutes away. They did not hesitate, and were there to get him right on time! I hope to never be in that situation again, but if I am, I should be so lucky to find service like this! A friend recommended J & R to me and I'm happy he did! I had an issue with the rear hatch actuator and could not open the rear door on my Durango. Jeff (the owner) and his crew did a great job and charged a reasonable fee (based on other quotes) for replacing and repairing the hatch. While there, I also had the oil changed and tires rotated. They are a busy shop with two locations, but Jeff took time to communicate throughout the repair and make future recommendations.The work was completed on time and my Durango was left clean. Absolutely, positively....THE BEST service, hands down! I had two other repair shops look at my car before I found J&R Service Center (completely by luck)....neither of them figured out what was going on with my car. Not the shop I have been taking my cars to for the past 15 years, and not an official Volkswagen dealership in Joliet, either. The VW shop, by the way, gave me an estimate for a $2,400 repair bill. FOR A REPAIR THAT WAS NOT needed. Unbelievable. Of course, I refused that repair, and wound up finding J&R, and getting the correct repair at a proper price. That's right -- they were the *only* car repair shop out of the three that knew what they were doing (figured out what was wrong with my car) and didn't try to overcharge me. Wonderful!! Beware - This place is extremely expensive. $40 for a tire rotation that typically costs $20-$25 at other shops. And I was quoted nearly $400 just to change the brake pads on a standard car (no rotors). I called another local shop and they performed the work for $180. You can buy quality pads for about $40 per set ($80 for the whole car). With an Advanced Auto Parts store across the street, they are probably buying parts even cheaper than this. The shop rate is over $100 per hour which is higher than most dealerships. My advice is to shop around before taking a car to them. read more
