Was quoted a price of 550.00 to move a large item, was told by the owner that he would reach out to the homeowners to verify the necessary info. A crew showed up without the appropriate equipment (borrowed what equipment we had) to move the item and when they arrived at the destination the company owner then called to say he would have to charge an extra 200.00 cause of the location the homeowners wanted the item or they would leave it in the driveway. Disappointed. This company has moved me and my daughters in the past, so I didn't check around when I needed a bed moved from my house to my daughter's house just a few miles away. I made initial contact about a week earlier to see if they could move everything and to get a price. We discussed the specifics: they would pick up the mattress, box spring, headboard, footboard two very light rails and 3 very light slats (queen size sleigh bed), and deliver it and move what would fit upstairs at my daughter's home about five miles away for $150. The senior person (I think he is the owner and father in charge) was going to call me to confirm the move on Friday for the Saturday move. He told me that 2:00 pm would work best for them. I didn't hear from him on Friday so I called him late in the day. He told me he didn't call me because my daughter called, they spoke and worked out the time - around 2:30 pm, and everything was set. So the next morning at around 11:00 am as I was riding out of town - I had moved the pieces into my front yard next to the driveway to make it as easy as possible - I received a call from a young man asking for the move details. I told him that my daughter had worked out everything with the father and that it was my understanding speaking with him that they weren't supposed to move the bed until around 2:30 pm. Apparently they were ready at 11:00 am. They did not have my daughter's number so I provided it and asked that they call her. The young man called me back a few minutes later because they recorded the wrong number (I was on speaker phone in my other daughter's car when I provided the number so I know I gave them the correct number). I provided the number again, and didn't hear back from anyone until a few hours later. My daughter who was getting the bed called me, because the two young men moving the bed refused to move anything upstairs. Everything except the box spring would got up the stairwell and these details including the time and price had been worked out in advance. I told my daughter that they were to move everything but the box spring and even then if it did fit up the stairwell they were to move that too. My daughter had to deal with these young men who refused to do the work agreed to in advance. They ended up begrudgingly moving everything but the box spring upstairs and left all of it in the hallway. Readers can come to their own conclusions, but I will not use this business again. What a mess. I was not thrilled when they moved me about a year earlier but thought I would give them another chance because the older man seems nice. With my move they acted like they were giving me a deal by starting the clock a few minutes late, but then they added more than double that to the clock on the end. I guess they thought that I wasn't smart enough to notice. And I gave them all a nice tip - yep I probably deserved it for being that nice person. I called J&M moving at the very last minute (less than 24hrs before) after my other movers canceled on me and J&M were able to work me into their schedule and help me perform my move! They sent a 3 man team with a truck, which was a great size team for my move. These guys worked tirelessly, efficiently and with a good attitude! I was really pleased with the end result and SO thankful for their hard work, especially at the very last minute! I couldn't have done it without them!! While the movers themselves were fast and on time, the owner/manager Mark was unprofessional, misleading and a crook. The initial conversation he was polite and courteous. We negotiated a price and expressed it maybe less depending on the time it takes. I called to request $100 off, he became rude and chastise me stating there's a $100 nonrefundable retainer and 2hr minimal. I was shocked. I was NEVER informed. When the movers I scheduled to me into a new home cancelled at the last minute, I arranged to have J & M do the move. I made a reservation with them at 5 pm the night before the move needed to happen. They gave me a quote and said they'd be at my home between 8 and 9 am the next day. At 11 am, 3 men showed up at my house in a 26 ft truck. Antoine led the crew and was fantastic. However, the 2 other men had clearly never moved a piece of furniture before. Antoine had to tell them how to wrap and lift furniture. After it became clear that the move out of my old home was going to take hours, my husband and I started moving all of the boxes that were upstairs, downstairs. After 4 hours, the house was packed and they drove to the new house. My husband and I carried as many boxes into the new house as the movers did because they were moving so slowly. When moving the refrigerator, they dropped it off the truck onto the ground (3-4 ft drop) and as soon as we pulled it in, they wanted us to tell them whether or not it was broken. They couldn't understand that it takes several hours for a fridge/freezer to properly cool down. The rest of the move was similar to this and when it came time to pay the bill, they were unwilling to give us a discount because they had dropped the fridge and we had done so much moving. When we called the owner, he yelled and cursed at my husband and was completely unprofessional. I understand that they were trying to help us out by putting together a crew with very little notice, but if a company can't staff a job properly, they shouldn't accept the job. I will never use this company again and won't recommend them to anyone. read more

I used this service the end of June 2014.When I called to check rates, the owner asked what kind of items I had, how many bedrooms, how many floors the home had etc to give me a better estimate & determine what size truck to send. I responded I lived in a 3 bedroom ranch, however, had NO bedroom furniture, NO appliances & my biggest item was a couch. I was told there was a $100 travel charge & a $125 hourly charge w/ a 2 hour minimum after which, the rate would be prorated to which I agreed. As I stated, I had hardly ANY furniture, NO appliances,1 small glass desk on wheels, a few pieces of exercise equipment which included a total gym & a small size elliptical, 2 small tables w/ chairs,1 couch,1 arm chair w/ ottoman, a large mirror, a light medium size wall picture--mainly bags & boxes. A few years ago, I was moved by a company I have been unable to locate & at that time, I had 3 bedrooms of furniture, 4 desks w/ chairs(3 of which were made of wood), 2 tall book shelves, a washer/dryer, 3 tables w/ chairs, an extra sofa & chairs & more boxes/bags. They moved steadily NOT speedily, but steadily & it took them about 1 & 1/2hrs to load & 1 hr or less to unload. They also charged a $100 travel fee & a 2 hour min. I paid them about $450 & it was well worth it. J&M movers moved as if they had all day. I placed things outside to help & saw them just standing on several occasions. I said nothing. My expression said a lot. In the end, the supervisor said there was not enough space to load the bike or elliptical. I asked if he could move his blankets which were balled up in the corner so the elliptical & the tv's could sit flat instead of having the elliptical and tv screens leaning on other items. He responded with an attitude, "I'm not leaving my stuff behind". I said. "I asked if you could move it not leave it". Why he chose to put those larger heavier items on last and the bags and boxes first is beyond me. Afterwards, I asked him to follow us to the location. He said that would be hard to do because the truck moves slowly. Surprisingly, I saw him speeding along, but he still arrived after us. The charge was $475 which included a 2hr loading fee & less than an hr unloading fee. I complained to the owner the following morning who said he would refund the fee of an hour which was $125. After a week of not hearing anything, I called to check the status of the refund. At that time, the owner stated his wife, the office manager, wanted to speak with me. She stated they will NOT refund the fee, there is a 3 hour minimum, the guys had families to feed & asked why I didn't move it myself. Initially, the owner stated there was a 2 hr minimum. After I complained about the behavior and incompetence of the employees, his wife stated there was a 3 hr minimum. I filed a complaint with the BBB and received the following response: "BBB spoke with Mark from the company and he stated that he quoted the consumer for a medium truck and moved her with a larger truck for the same amount. He stated he also took money off of the traveling charge for the consumer. Mark said that he is not running company and they take their time so nothing of the consumer's gets broken." Firstly, there was no such talk of giving me a deal on a truck especially since most of the items were not stacked meaning the little I had did not require a larger truck. Secondly, there was no discussion of a discounted travel charge and if it was discounted in the end it was probably due to the late arrival to the drop-off location since the driver refused to follow me. Thirdly, he stated they take their time so nothing gets broken. Well, leaning tv's with screens facing other objects and leaning an elliptical on smaller items because the driver did not want to move his balled up blankets so my things could sit on a flat surface shows the exact opposite--they didn't care if anything was broken or not as a result of their "professional moving services". The goal appeared to be to make loading a 2 hr job "to feed their families", which they obviously did with the owner's approval so if I were you, I would choose another company. They seemed to think they were doing me a favor. Had I known to expect this type of service, I certainly would've chosen another company. In brief, the owner quoted me a 2 hr minimum. Afer I complained about the service, the wife stated there was a 3 hr minimum. The employees had an unwarranted horrible attitude while providing a service to a customer for which they intentionally overcharged & requested an almost $500 payment. Their sense of entitlement for intentionally overcharging me to do a sloppy job was appauling. I will never understand misleading people like the owner and his wife or employees who overcharge customers to "feed their families" as the office manager stated & forget that we pay their bills. But hey maybe you will benefit as they attempt to invalidate my complaint. :-) read more
