Called to repair oven stuck in self clean mode that's completely inoperable. He came Sat morning, Spent 10 min "investigating" and couldn't figure out the problem, claiming "it's a control board" (great there's like 7 of them, which one?) Paid $80 for nothing, they said they would contact the manufacturer and get part and call us on Monday. Monday turns into Tues, and into Wed. No call back. We call them, they promise to call back, nothing. No return calls. Very unprofessional. Friday call turns into him telling US to call manufacturer to get a part number. Part number for what? He never identified what was wrong. He did nothing. I would avoid this guy. Doesn't know what he's doing. Doesn't call back. Just took our money for nothing read more

My fridge/freezer was leaking water, booked J & M through their website, they had their guys out the next day with the repair. Very good service, quick response time and reasonably priced. These guys have been my appliance repair favourites for more than 15 years. At least twice, they fixed something I was sure was going to need to be replaced and saved me hundreds of dollars. They have fixed a dishwasher, fridge, washing machine, and dryers for me. All for a very reasonable price. I credit them with extending the lifespan of my old Maytag dishwasher by another 10 years. One time they even told me that the expensive repair that Sears had told be was needed was wrong and fixed the problem for $35. Called Joe, he offered to come out same day, but due to my schedule, I went for the following weekday. Repairman showed up mid-morning, and our 2003 Maytag washing machine was back in business in about 1 hour. It cost $115 for the J & M repair. I was thinking about doing the repair myself, but my troubleshooting was off, I nearly bought the wrong part. So I saved myself a lot of time and hassle by letting a pro do the repair. Needed my dryer fixed, and was skeptical of all the various repair providers listed online. I wanted to ensure I'd get quality service bother before AND after the repair people came. Many companies failed in this respect. After checking reviews, I decided upon J&M Appliance. No, they don't have a fancy website. No, they don't have a fleet of vehicles. Yes, they got the results I needed within 30 minutes and also arrived on time (calling before they came). Of note, while they are extremely friendly in person, I can definitely see how they may come across "abrupt" on the phone. This was especially the case as they answered an incoming call requesting service while working on my dryer (so don't expect a secretary to answer), and I could see they were just looking to find out the location and contact info of the caller (to schedule a time to come out) so they could return to the task at hand. Their prices were fair (initial show up fee + 30 min. incremental billing + parts needed), and they took the time to explain what was broken and what needed fixing before they installed it. I'd highly recommend them to friends and family, but like I said, don't be shocked by the phone conversation if they don't come across as "excited to answer your call," they're probably working away and wanted to make sure you reached a live person instead of a machine. (and No, it didn't delay them in getting the job done quickly :P ) read more

Very professional and prompt service and more importantly honest. He knew exactly what he was doing the moment he saw the machine model. He listed all possible reasons for the immediate issue, (all of which correlated with internet research) and once he had the machine apart he found the problem immediately. He charged us $85 and was I was more than happy to $ tip $ the fellow for his very efficient and very friendly service. I love finding businesses that don't attempt to rip off the 'inexperienced' at every opportunity. I will most definitely call J&M for any and all appliance issues/repair. I highly recommend. As for the bad reviews I cant really say, but let me just speculate here for a second.... Speaking for myself, I work with the public everyday as well. I have a great reputation with my clients, and for me it's really quite simple, if I dont like you, then I won't work with you. I really don't need you or your money or the headache you cause as my list of great people to work with is endless and keeps growing. I can pick and choose which makes you insignificant and NOT worth my time. Perhaps J&M are of the same opinion, I don't know. Cant say I would blame them given how people can be. My LG dryer was making a lot of noise. These guys repaired the rollers and pulleys along with cleaning out the blower fan and ducts. For anyone who owns an LG made appliance, you'll soon realize that sourcing parts can be very difficult since they make you go directly to the manufacturer. However these guys have been in the industry for decades and had the connections to get the parts in a timely manner. I was charged a very reasonable rate to fix my dryer and happy with the service. J and M came to my house day of call and spent 5 minutes diagnosing my washing machine. Did not even turn it on and charged 63$ call out fee. No tools used and nothing done. then gave a ridiculous high quote of 700$ to fix. I got a second opinion and guy fixed for 200$. Kind of makes me think so of these guys make their money on service calls and not on fixing machines.I wont be calling again. read more

Guys here know how to fix pretty much everything . Their estimate is fair and they stick to it . I had them come over once and look at something and it was free charge as they couldn't fix it and had to order parts . Did awesome job installing my dishwasher and re piping it all as the older dishwasher connections would not fit . Recommend them for your handy work . read more

The worst experience, if there was a zero I'd rate it as that. We called & he couldn't come out for a few days but that was fine. He came over & said the one appliance would be easy & cheap to fix but the other would be very expensive & he needed to go get parts. He left & we waited for hours, we called to see when he was coming back & he said he wasn't!! He'd let us know when he got the parts. We never heard from him again until late the week after & by that time we were shocked he even called back. He was also wishy washy with labor fees & all in all was not a friendly man. Dishonest and disorganized! I had them come repair two appliances (fridge, replace spring in dishwasher door) and they did neither. They were supposed to order a control board for my fridge and assured me it would take 2-3 weeks. It has now been 6 weeks. I called three different times and was told each time that the part was on order and will arrive soon. They texted me today to say they don't have any info on my fridge and told me to send it so they can order the part! This, despite the fact that the repair person wrote it all down when he was here! Called for service based on previous reviews. We just moved in and previous owner didn't disclose washer leaked on Spin Cycle. That wasn't too nice, but I had great service with J&M. (Edmonton Alberta) Very disappointed in their operation. Called them a week before, gave them my appliances serial number as needed a part, it was all good. Took a vacation day so that they could come and fix it the following week. I then get a call at the time they were to show for the appointment, advising me they didn't have the part, but they could order it for us if we wanted to book another appointment? I guess if they ever got there to fix something they might be good, who knows as not every going to call them back. Very unprofessional of them. I just got off the phone inquiring about servicing a gas stove that won't ignite and the guy just says sorry the specialist for gas stoves is busy so I can't book you today or tomorrow. I cannot recommend this company enough and feel badly that it took me so long to finally post this review. We had trouble with our Kenmore washing machine which was purchased from Sears. (You can guess how that turned out???) We had never dealt with J & M previously but they came out immediately and we live out in the Bon Accord area which is a fair distance from their shop. J & M originally thought that the problem was a plugged screen which they cleaned, however, they did tell us that it could involve a pump replacement. J & M said that should this be the case they would return with the pump and we would not be charged for a second service call. They were as good as their word. Horrible, came to repair my dishwasher and oven. nothing got fixed and he claimed he had the circuit board for my broiler issue in his van. Attempted to chage me $360 dollars plus labour. Absurd, i dont know much about appliances, but knew I was getting taken for a loop here. Promptly declined he service and did research on my own. I will be getting this fixed for half that cost. Horrible experience. Having trouble with our Samsung fridge not cooling/freezing properly. Came out, did some very basic checks (most of which I had already tried after Googling), and promptly said the coolant level was low. Added more coolant and charged $168. The problem persists. Came out again, and said they think it may be a control board issue, but will have to check with "the guys" at the part dealership and will get back to us. Also indicated that there was only one place in Edmonton that sells Samsung parts, so they "charge a lot". After many more days, finally get a message to call someone back, at which time I had to re-explain the entire issue, and then wait for a few more days for them to comeback yet again to "do some diagnostics". This time, two guys come out, and without even pulling the fridge out, try to use the fridge's touch panel to call up diagnostics, with no success. Unfortunately, I wasn't the one home, as I could have easily showed them how to do it, based on the information both IN THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL, and on a sticker at THE BACK OF THE FRIDGE. The problem was explained, yet again, by my wife, at which point they said the fridge "wouldn't run self-diagnostics" (since they had no idea how to properly do it) so the control panel must be shot, but they would go back and check with the boss. As this had already been 8 days since the first visit, and not having a properly working fridge or freezer is an understandable major inconvenience, we asked if "the boss" would be calling us back the next day. Almost laughingly we were told it would be at least 2 or 3 days, if not more, as the boss was going on vacation. We were also told that the "technician" on the first visit said the refrigerant level was "barely" below normal level, so wasn't really sure it needed to be topped up (but obviously couldn't think of anything else useful to do). And the icing on the cake was when they said that the control board was "not being made anymore", so couldn't be obtained anyways, although if we wanted to be sure, we could CALL SAMSUNG OURSELVES(?!?!). That was a week ago and no one has showed enough consideration or professionalism to call us back yet, and I somehow doubt that anyone will. Since then, I DID call Samsung, and they indicated the part was not only available, but could be shipped direct at relatively low cost. They also listed their authorized repair shop in Edmonton. I called them and was immediately greeted by a vastly superior level of professionalism. They took all my information, indicated they would check with their technician, and actually gave me a real estimate based on the problem. So basically a COMPLETE WASTE of $168, and two weeks of time that could have been used to call someone actually capable of dealing with our fridge. They had NO CLUE how to deal with my Samsung fridge, and showed no desire to actually act like true professionals and FIND OUT how to diagnose/fix the issue, or even to check on the parts. Would NEVER deal with these guys again, and will make sure to pass our experience on to others. read more

Wonderful! My aged washer was making noises, so I wasn't sure if it would be fixable or if I would be going shopping for a new one. I was able to book an appointment at a time that was convenient for me, and they said they would call before they came, which they did. He was able to locate the problem quickly and fix it. The cost seemed reasonable to me, considering what I would be paying for a new washer. I will definitely recommend them, and I will certainly call them again for any appliance problems. read more

We requested a service call for both our dryer and washer, although the gentleman that arrived didn't know there was a problem with the washer. There was a lot good about the appointment. He was on time, he was able to fix the dryer quite quickly, and the price was really reasonable. He said he would have to check into whether there was a part available for the washer but that we wouldn't be charged another service call fee if he found a part and we wanted to go ahead with the repair. We didn't hear back from him. I called the office about 6 days later and was told the technician would get back to me the next day. I still haven't heard back from them and that was three days ago. If we would have known that the washer wouldn't be fixed quickly or that we wouldn't hear back from them, we wouldn't have gone ahead with fixing the dryer. We were able to find the control panel at Reliable Parts so we'll be ordering it from them. We're disappointed in the poor customer service. read more

Make sure to ask what they charge to come over and give you an estimate for repair. I wanted to know if it would be worthwhile to fix my old washer, told them what the problem was on the phone and was told that they would have to come over to look at it. After looking at it for a couple of minutes they deduced that it was the pump (I knew that already) and that it wasn't worth fixing. The cost.... $60.00 to come over! I called based on the good reviews here, but did not have a good experience. The repair required a simple replacement part, which the repair person did not have. He said he would get the part and get back to me that day to make the repair. He never called back, and when I tried to contact him to inquire (twice), he informed me he was "too busy" that week and would get back to me after the holidays. Still no follow-up. When I called again after the holidays, I was told that the person who handles this make of appliance was "on vacation" and that I could try calling back in a week to see if they could fit me in. Either these people are in so much demand that they don't need to make an effort, or they really don't care. I would not recommend them. read more

Great service I have been getting from Joe, Actually last year I was having a problem with my dryer and washer, I called Ft. Road appliance and this guy advised me to throw out my Maytag appliance and buy a stack-able one as there is no way they could be repaired. He went as far as introducing me to purchase a second hand one,and asked me how much I was willing to pay. I was quite distraught as I was not in a position to purchase 2 new appliances. I went on line and was looking I noted where J & M was given a bad rating but numerous great reviews. I decided to give him a try and You would not believe, my appliance only wanted a motor and the washer wanted only a part which cost aprox $4-5.00, and the water was blasting in my washer and the dryer was going after 12 hrs of Joe coming to see my appliance and made a diagnosis, and repaired them, at a reasonable price of course. Sorry for the wieners that comment on his accent, I do have accent too, but it was the job I needed to be done in an efficient and economical way, that is important to me, and most of all I am very satisfied with the job. Should be no stars but then I cannot type a review. Our experience has been sheer frustration and disgust. Will never contact this guy again. He was utterly useless. On Aug 6, 2015, I contacted Joe and discussed with him to call my tenant and arrange a time to fix the washer door while I am away on a short business trip. During my absence, he did not call her but someone else's number instead. After my return, he stated the parts are on its way. A week or so later, no contact and later found out he kept calling the wrong customer again. The parts finally came in it was the wrong part and needed more time. New parts came a week or so later and he tried to install it but the parts he claimed were broken. No contact until I called him back, so he came by and took our washer door with him. A week or so later he guarantees it will be fixed by the following Monday but my tenant called him two days later, Joe stated it will be done by the Friday instead. My tenant fired him on Sept 27, 2015 - almost 2 months later no result. I will bet the 5 stars ratings are mainly from fake reviewers. I would actually give a negative or zero star rating if that was possible. I am beyond disappointed with this company. My dryer was getting hot and tumbling, but the clothes would remain wet at the end of they cycle. You could see condensation in the dryer when you opened it. I had this company come in and was told that I needed a new motor. They quoted $400 for the new motor. Considering the age of my dryer (13 years) I decided to just by the same one for $570. When I had the new one installed it had the exact same problem. I then went with an electrician and that was fine and then checked the venting which was the actual problem. Nothing was wrong with my previous dryer despite them telling me it needed a new motor. This all happened in November. I was charged $95 for the service call and was told that I would be mailed a receipt. No receipt has ever come and I have now been trying for 2 weeks to get a receipt from them (I need it for reimbursement purposes). I have emailed three times and spoke with someone on the phone. Still no receipt. I would personally recommend a large company that cares about getting poor reviews and cares about customer service. This company cost me over $700 all said and done to get a new dryer that I didn't need. read more

I'm sure they do great work. Never got the chance to find out. Didn't call me or even respond to emails when I needed a simple repair to the stove top. Just don't trust myself to play with the wiring, and they could have even over charged me. Just would have been happy to have the stove top working fully again.
