Quite frankly, I had big expectations. Place came highly recommended from good friends. I should have known better when I ordered the brisket and the person behind the counter asked me if I wanted it hot or cold? Then I asked for moist... she didn't understand my request... the red flags were there, I clearly missed it! My bad! What I got was easily the worst brisket ever. It was so tough that my plastic fork could not cut it. Show leather comes to mind... My teen age kids had dry pulled pork sandwiches... not even bbq sauce could save. The sodas were fine! read more

For a BBQ restaurant they have a menu that should meet anyone's taste buds! We ordered the pull pork sandwich that comes loaded with meat, slaw, sauce of your choice (tangy is the bomb!) and pickle. We ordered a side of potato salad and Cole slaw(with their own dressing) All of it was delicious! Best BBQ ever! Best out Saul's in NC and Fresh Air in GA! And that's saying something! read more

I could have sworn I had a picture, but I must have eaten that too! Was driving back from backpacking in Trinity Alps and was extremely hungry and just wanted to chow down on the first place we saw. Very happy J&J's Smokin BBQ was what we saw and stopped at to grab a quick bite. There is parking out front and a couple of chairs and table outside. The BBQ spot is right next to a small shop where you can grab some snacks and drinks for the road. The BBQ spot itself is pretty basic - you walk up and they have a couple listed items from bbq sandwiches, wings and even tacos. I grabbed the pulled pork sandwich and sat down to wait for the order. While waiting many many people were ordering the wings and tacos - so must be epic! Got the food and was pretty happy with it. Spent the afternoon visiting Lewiston, my dad wanted to stop at J&J's Smokin' BBQ. We ordered 2 Mountain Philly's and one Lewi Rubi. The sandwiches came and we were overwhelmed as the Hoagie's were huge. The Lewi Rubi had to be taken home. Mountain Philly Smoked Tri-tip with sautéed bell peppers, onions, mushrooms & garlic on a Hoagie roll Lewi Rubi Smoked pastrami topped with pickles, sauerkraut, mustard and house made slaw sauce on a marble rye bread I recommend both. I have tried a similar sandwich from Kats Deli in NY and by far the taste of the Lewi Rubi out did it on taste and thickness of the meat portion. The Mountain Philly is better tasting than any Tri-tip I have tasted. The outdoor seating is clean and the fountain Drinks are huge. Service was quick and personalized as the owners call my dad by name and even cut up a whole watermelon from the market next door. I will definitely make this BBq place my secret go to spot for smoked bbq meats. Going to try their BBq chicken next time. read more

Great food!! We had their special today: Tri tip French dip. It had perfect grilled onions, mushrooms and cheese with a generous portion of tender tri tip, oh if course, au just! Delicious! Also, on special were fried Mac n Cheese balls with BBQ sauce and a BBQ mayo sauce. They were perfectly spicy to cut the richness. To add tour lich we're their awesome fries! read more

Awesome place in Lewiston, if you're anywhere nearby you need to come try it. I was a bit nervous about the Lewiston food scene. For those that don't know, Lewiston is a very small town (population is under 2,000). I came for salmon fishing, and my friend had mentioned not to set my expectations very high. There's no real supermarket like Safeway/Albertsons/Whole Foods/etc within an hour, and from my count the town has 3 restaurants (including this one), all of which are closed by 8:30. So when we rolled into town, this was our first stop, because the other options were a diner that only has lunch and breakfast, and a hotel that only has lunch and dinner. We need to go to the minimart next door for some fishing bait too, and we decided to get breakfast burritos from this place as fishing starts ridiculously early. And since we were there, we decided to get some sandwiches (pulled pork for me). Well, let me tell you, even though I wasn't expecting much, the sandwich blew me away. This wasn't just some thrown together fast food sandwich - no, this was crafted, like a fancy place in SF or LA. The flavors were so good, the vegetables so crisp, the bread was fresh tasting, and you could literally see the smoker out front. The burritos, even though they were eaten cold the next morning at 4 am, were also awesome. I regretted not ordering 2. That day for lunch we came back, and I had 2 sandwiches, impressing the cashier. And we came back the day after too, for pork belly BLTs. Every single sandwich was amazing, and really, tasted like something I'd pay $15-20 for in a larger city. The service was prompt and everyone working there is really nice. They also have a decent beer selection, so you can sit out front and eat your gourmet sandwich with a nice beer. And they have espresso drinks! And soda if that's your thing. And there's plenty of parking. And they take credit cards. Really, if you live anywhere nearby, you should come. Order any sandwich you want, they are all good, although if they have a special those seem particularly good. One of my biggest regrets is not getting a rack of ribs when I had the chance. I don't live even remotely close so I don't know when or if I'll have a chance to come back, but if I was going to be in the area I wouldn't miss this place. read more

Amazing delicious HUGE hot sandwiches, old fashioned excellence in Bbq meat choices, crispy battered fries and THE BEST SWEET TEA! Did I mention Mac & Cheese balls??? Only reason the line isn't a mile long is this place is kinda in the middle of nowhere! But it's a short hop off the 299 between Weaverville and Whiskeytown so map it and go! It's worth an hours drive from anywhere I promise. If you are driving the coast to Redding 299 or the opposite, it's between Weaverville & Whiskeytownin Lewiston and worth turning off for!!! read more

We both had the carne tacos, and split a side of mac n cheese. The meat was really tender and seasoned well. The Mac was solid. They gave us a small side of bbq sauce and suggested putting it on the Mac, really good combo. As we were leaving my wife asked if we could buy some sauce to go, the owner said he was running low (they were busy) but he gave us a small cup of their Carolina tangy which I'm going to use today for pulled pork Sammy's at home. We stopped by twice once for lunch and once for breakfast. The mountain Philly steak sandwiches are delicious with a toasted roll and filled to the brim with flavorful meat, peppers and cheese. Ask for sides of sauces too. The Carolina mustard, bbq and aïoli are superb add ons. We grabbed a breakfast burrito on our way out with the salsa inside. We did the smoked sausage for our choice of meat. They cut it in half for us my husband and I shared one. It was probably one of the best breakfast burrito we've ever had the salsa I had a little kick was absolutely delicious. We would highly recommend grabbing the big burrito on your way out for a fishing day. read more
