We really wanted to like this place but the experience was mixed: 1) location - only a few chairs inside and no tables, only 2 person tables outside and you can't push tables together (we were told to stop when we tried), and no bathroom 2) food - the smoothies were terrible. Two of us got the tropical smoothie which has the exact ingredients I use at home for a tasty smoothie and we commented that it tasted like water. Only smoothie I've ever had but tasted like iced water! As we were talking about it, another patron who got the same smoothie came up and asked "was your smoothie terrible too? It tasted like water." The only thing I can think of is that they ran out of fruit and used mostly ice with a little bit of coconut milk and then a couple pieces of frozen pineapple and frozen strawberry. The bacon was very, very thin and not great either. The avocado toast in general was OK but definitely not four or five star 3. Service - the service was not expressly unfriendly, but it was definitely not friendly either. We were given just the information that was needed, but there wasn't any warmth, conversation, or welcoming spirit. There was no apology when mentioning that they didn't have bathroom facilities and no solution represented until we asked further questions where a bathroom might be nearby. The same when we pushed two tables together outside, so our family could sit together - - there was no apology that it was a city rule that we couldn't do that and they understood the inconvenience. Just simply a please separate the tables it's not allowed. 4. Value - given the low quality flavor in the food, the poor ambience, facilities, and the unfriendly service - - the price for the items purchased in TY. Overall, we'd say it was a poor value and it is not a place we swing by again. Found this place via Yelp so adding my review. So good! We were in Redding overnight before heading further south & I was looking for a breakfast place. Most places seemed like the normal fare but Cafe Calico stood out. I had their sausage & cheese sandwich on a jalapeño/cheese bagel & my partner had the chicken BLT wrap. Stopped at the post office a block away and was starving with two kids in the car and 2 more hours to drive home. This cafe is so cute. Stopped at this little shop for a quick lunch on our way to Oregon. I had the Italian sandwich and my wife had the Cali sandwich on gluten free bread. This was our first time. We live in Anderson and are tired of the same ole places. So what I always do when we travel is to use Yelp. And low and behold we found this little gem. My husband had the Italian sandwich and had it hot using the penini press. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. There are 3 kinds of grilled cheese and I opted for the triple cheese.
