Road trip! Always a great start with a great cafe! I had the special which was wild, foraged porcini mushrooms, scrambled eggs and Gruyère cheese, an amazing homemade biscuit, and herbed roasted potatoes. Coffee was excellent as well! They had a BIG party that morning, so it was a bit of a wait BUT the food was well worth it! I only gave 4 stars because of the wait...but it was an unusually large party. We stopped in Dunsmuir for lunch passing through to Oregon . Cute cafe with very nice servers , excellent service . But the menu was very limited with few options . We are from the Bay Area and we don't have prices like this unless we go to San Francisco . $56 for two sandwiches and water . Unbelievable ...and the sandwiches were unremarkable , boring chicken breast sandwiches with no flavor ( period ) the accompanying pasta salad was even more boring ( dry , obviously yesterdays ) some olive oil and a little feta cheese and dill couldn't save this dish . My mate thought the potato salad was decent though but I found it boring . Very disappointed in mediocre food but great service.and high prices . read more

They keep bringing it everyday! I love that Chef Rob changes up the menu and offers specials that never disappoint. As they have become more popular they have handled the service challenges well. We understand that delays can happen, but it was difficult not to notice the pattern, and it left us feeling overlooked and treated differently from other guests. We hope this was an isolated incident, but no customer should leave wondering whether they were given the same level of service as everyone else. My family met up for breakfast on a Thursday in mid-July 2025, around 10 am. The restaurant wasn't super busy at that time. Service was quick to welcome us and set up a table for 8 people. The food is NOT FAST but was well worth waiting for! While awaiting our main meal we did have coffee and a scone to nibble and tide us over. A few of us shared bites from our plates. BEST PANCAKES I've EVER tasted. SO fluffy! We were all impressed with the baked goods - scones, biscuits, etc. I was also thrilled with my Potatoes O'Brian. I'll come back just for these PO-TAY-TOES. They were super-crispy. I think the red peppers and onions may have been caramelized on the side then tossed with the crispy taters at the end. Often "home fries" or "cottage fries" are a real disappointment. Cornerstone has a very cute vibe. It's a lovely old building and there is outdoor seating. A place to linger and enjoy. One thing I would add: some soft surfaces, maybe banners or a few hangings on the upstairs railing - to soak up some of the noise. It's not as loud as a bar in San Francisco or anything like that, but sound does bounce off the high ceiling. read more

We have had meals at this legacy breakfast cafe in historic downtown Dunsmuir for over 13 years. There has been about 4 or 5 different groups of folks who've owned it and have attempted to make a go of it. And many of those were worthy of good reviews. However, the current duo to tackle this iconic location and to make it work have a greater chance of a long-term success than any prior. First, there atmosphere is not just inviting and hospitable but before you know it your taking your shoes off and wondering if you'll ever go home...its that welcoming. I hate leaving bad reviews. And I love Dunsmuir and want all business to succeed. But this place is not going to make it I'm afraid. Our party of four waited for more than an hour for breakfast and when we asked when we would be served, we found out from the extremely rude owner that "Internet orders," whatever those are, were being put ahead of ours, and that the food would be out in "15 minutes or so." It went downhill from there. The owner became more and more loud and defensive rather than trying to understand why it was frustrating watching every person in the restaurant get served while we had sat there and waited. We finally left. So we didn't get to try the food, so I can't comment on that. Our server was really nice, at least Unfortunately, we have a $50 guest certificate we will never use here. We had super high hopes for the cornerstone cafe. Sad to say, it was a disappointment. We were greeted warmly and had our order taken quickly. Felt good...at first. Then the food arrived. Tasteless potatoes. I mean they tasted like they had been boiled to cook them, then thrown in a frying pan to crisp them up but they still tasted like boiled tasteless potatoes. There were some green onions sprinkled on top but that was it. The egg dish was bland as heck too. Our server never came back to offer more coffee. They forgot the butter and jelly that was promised. After trying to wave the server down, I finally got up, walked over to them and asked "are we invisible??? You never brought coffee, you forgot our butter and jelly...". I wasn't mean but I was clearly conveying my disappointment. So they quickly grabbed the coffee pot and came to our table. By then we just wanted to leave. I live in Dunsmuir and this is my favorite full service local restaurant. The food is always tasty and well prepared and the service friendly and real. The cornerstone is a classic small town restaurant with very friendly ambiance. I highly recommend having breakfast, lunch or dinner here. Dinners are only served on Friday/Saturday evenings so you may want to make a reservation beforehand especially on 2nd Saturdays of month when local art galleries feature new shows and are open later than usual. read more

My husband and I were coming back to California from Oregon and decided to stop for lunch in Dunsmuir. We picked Cornerstone Cafe. We were warmly greeted and invited to sit in a comfy booth. I had Breakfast Tacos and he had Sweet Potato Polenta. Both dishes were amazing! Everything was made from fresh ingredients. My Breakfast Tacos - country potatoes made from fresh russets with bell peppers and caramelized onions, homemade pickled onions, perfectly cooked egg and fresh avocado, all wrapped in corn tortillas. The house made salsa was very mild but with all the pepper character you'd expect from a fiery version. And remember to check out the bakery items! They looked so delicious, we took one of the fat slices of banana bread and piece of berry coffee cake to go. They were both outstanding the next morning with our coffee. Service was lively and attentive. The staff was clearly touched by our well deserved praise. It really was that good. read more

Husband had the breakfast (bacon) tacos which he raved about. I had the biscuits and gravy with eggs (the best gravy I had on our trip). Our oldest had the homemade blueberry pancakes (cooked to perfection, he said). All the kids had the hot chocolate and all said it's their new favorite (had cinnamon in it...sooo good!).
