We went on a Sunday night, it was awesome. The service was fantastic. The waiter Anthony explained anything on the menu and was very attentive. The Cajun salmon and the Salmon Burger were both fantastic. The prices were relatively reasonable considering it's a niche fancier than Tommy's but the food was far better. read more

The service was below expectations for this visit. We were celebrating my adult daughter's birthday and we were a party of 10 including 4 kids (13 and under). They just didn't have their act together. Food was not brought out together. In fact, my grandson's kids Mac and cheese wasn't brought out until we were almost finished with adults meals, even after asking server and manager a couple of times to check on it. Food quality was generally very good, but the service made our experience less than fun and positive. Even desert was handled well. We weren't asked if anyone wanted coffee and although we were celebrating a birthday (and we arranged in advance) they weren't prepared with a birthday cake or desert (and wouldn't sing Happy Birthday when they brought her her desert....we only sang). They also forgot my grandson's carrot cake until we asked a couple of times. Overall, we were not impressed or happy with our visit for an expensive restaurant that prides itself on a great dining experience. read more

I was disappointed beyond any expectations. First off the place is nice decent bar with TV's has potential. However it falls short drastically when it comes to food. We started with the queso dip which was pretty good. My wife first ordered the steak and had to return it. It was to be medium but it was rare over seasoned and COLD. She opted for the chicken platter after and again over seasoned with fries. Initially, in hindsight we should have returned that entree as well. Remember the chicken. I ordered the pork chop. The size of the meat was good but the glaze for me ruined the dish. I didn't complain especially after the steak fiasco. The sides broccoli and mash potatoes were terrific. So because we felt bad I opted for them to wrap up the chicken. The mgr and waitress were nice. They forwarded us a big piece of pie. Key lime pie was ok. So we left thinking we may go back the service was nice. Return and maybe sit at the bar. So the chicken remember was to be wrapped up and paid for? Well last night I went to my fridge and grabbed the box from J Alexander and it was not the chicken. You know the entire dish was not in the box although paid for it. What was in the box? The bleepin bone from the pork chop. So the staff said don't wrap up the full meal but instead the bone from my meal. Well that was it. I will not return to this place as it has a long way to go. From the cooks to the inept wait staff that couldn't wrap up the damn food I paid for. So needless to say they need to get their stuff together. This is the first week and the chefs should always be on point. They were not. In addition people behind me returned their dishes. I wish them luck but the food was well below expectations for the prices. To wrap up a bone instead of the finished dish was it for me. I was livid and will be for a good long time. read more

Waiting too long. Kids meal. Was over silted and pepper..... steak was boring nothing special pasta. Same thing nothing special I cook better at home lol. Kitchen guys need more experience. Bartender was very nice read more

Ambiance was nice but food was just ok not too many healthy choices a lot items on the menu are deep fried. Limited appetizer's & seafood choices also. Waiter had the gall when he came back with my credit card & bill he said " I't worked" that should never be said to a customer and was lucky we left a nice tip. Don't see this restaurant lasting at all , typical chain restaurant menu. Go to a good steak house instead or Oceanos Restaurant in Fair lawn. read more

What a nice addition to the neighborhood. We stopped by and were very happy we did. The restaurant has a sleek modern vibe. The staff were very friendly and attentive. And the food, fresh and delicious. Our table started with the deviled eggs, very good. We ordered the fried chicken platter, Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and the Cypress salad. All were big portions and with big flavor. And we ended with the Chocolate cake with ice cream. A must! I highly recommend stopping by. read more

Work in the complex of J Alexander's, my manager and I decided to order lunch. I called you cannot order over the phone I had to walk over. Entering the restaurant the door was held open for me. I walked to the front desk and asked to place the order. I was told you have to go to the bar. I waited at the bar for 3 minutes then walked back over and said there is nobody at the bar I am waiting. Answer was oh I'll go get her. Did we not see anyone there from the start? Ok we order two old fashion burgers which come with fries. I waited 15 minutes in the bench in front of the restaurant across from the front desk. I observed two girls chatting away able to listen to their full conversation the one young girl was chewing her gum very aggressively. She did run over and open the door for the patron leaving as she CRACKED her gum in his face. Okay now for my order the girl at the bar brings my two orders and hands them to me NO BAG. Oh sorry we don't have bags. WHAT!! So if you were ordering say 4 dinners or more you would walk out with them in your hand? Next I get back to work and notice a 6% package fee for my order without a bag to carry it back with. HUH! The burger was delicious the fries were over salted by a heavy hand. I did reach out to the General manager Matthew Ballard several times. He could never take my call unfortunately. Overpriced, the culture just is not there. I would have to say the GM should be a bit more observant with his workers. Will I go back NO, too many good places in the area to buy lunch. read more

Good food, great service, buy always out of clam chowder other than this, they are always willing to to provide great customer service.

This was my second visit after staying away for a while due to the food being very salty ! I tried the place again and ordered a filet mignon with baked potatoes which was extremely salty . Quick update. Service has improved greatly. Actually know a few of the employees by name and they are great fun people.

First time going there today and it was excellent. First off I would like to say the server Justin was probably the best server I ever had, he was very nice always had a smile and was very friendly with us, he did not rush us or anything like that. The food and drinks (cocktails) were great as well. I got a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it was amazing!!! the portion sizes were excellent I could barely finish my meal. And lastly the vibe in there was a very nice as well. Long story short I will definitely be going back, and I really hope Justin is there and is my waiter, he is the best!! read more

I went to this new location the service was great the hostess, the manage, my waiter anthony, like everyone was so welcoming and kind from the second we walked in. I know new restaurant usually dont have it all together but they do! Kept checking on us refilling our glasses without asking. Anthony went out of his way recommended some of their dishes and went to ask the kitchen and everyone about some things my husband was looking for for dinner. Great hospitality read more

The food was amazing, service spectacular and overall fantastic experience. My daughters and I are planning on coming back again. My only options are turkey, chicken and fish. I ordered Salmon and their chilled rice. My daughters had their chicken options. The appetizers deviled eggs with bacon which I had without the bacon was delicious. The drinks......let me just show you better than I can tell you. Justin out server was right on time with everything. The manager also can and talked to us for a while. I'm telling you this place really excelled my expectations. read more

The food in the Clifton location was perfectly prepared. The prime rib was delicious! The fried calamari was so tender. I know this will sound nuts but the coleslaw is amazing. The vibe is very chill. We loved the decor. Our server was Jeff. He was friendly, helpful and engaging. Highly recommend you give this establishment a try and ask for Jeff! read more

We stopped in for lunch. We were greeted warmly at the front and by our waiter, who was outstanding . My wife had a classic cheeseburger and I had a spicy chicken sandwich. Both were outstanding! The fries were some of the best I've ever had. Because we were so full, we took a key lime pie to go. Equally great! This is now added to our list of favorite places to go. As a side note we were pleased that the music level was kept at a level where you can actually talk to the person across the table without shouting. read more

Often duplicated, never replicated. The similarities between J.Alexander's and Houston's is quite noticeable in comparison to the menu offerings and even down similar details of the booth tables with step up tags but that's exactly where it ends. I ordered a few things to try Hong Kong Shrimp - standard app you'd find at a a chain restaurant. A bit on the greasy side and extremely salty. Thai Kai Chicken Salad - sort of similar to the Thai noodle salad at Houston's. Decent, but nowhere near as good. French dip - Flavorful but leans more toward the fatty side of meat. The bread was spongy and was messy. Again not as good as Houston's. Carrot cake - was told this was their go to dessert. Was absolutely covered in frosting just felt like I was eating a pile of sugar. Did not enjoy it. As a new restaurant I understand it takes some time to tweak things here and there. I'm just not sure I'll be back any time soon. read more

Love J Alexander's in Boca Raton, Florida and was so excited to try the Clifton location. Unfortunately my experience here was disappointing on every level ranging from a cocktail with an unidentified taste to it to a very fatty steak that never should have been served to poor service. To me this is a glorified chain experience with upscale prices. Actually I've had better dinners at Outback and Longhorns. No need to return. The one positive was the hostess who did all she could to make the evening enjoyabe. The manager should take a lessons from her. read more

Sat at the bar. Was asked by bar staff what I wanted to drink. When I got my drink , I noticed the bartender laughing and joking excessively with some customers sitting next to me. When she took my order I asked for a burger with no bun. She acknowledged it than went right back to laughing and joking with the customers next to me PS .. the burger came out with a bun and I am gluten intolerant. I ordered it med rare .. it came bloody red. After saying it was ok, didn't want to cause a scene, after the next few bites I bit into something hard. It was either a bone or very large grissle. I took it out of my mouth and began to bite into it again. Once again I bit into a large chunk of grissle or something. At this point I was disgusted and was apologized to by the manager. Worst burger I ever ate. read more

Nicole, you and your staff are amazing. Everyone was informative, friendly and the service impeccable. The food was so out of this world from the starters, entree, and finally dessert, it was perfection. The decor and ambiance is simple yet elegant and welcoming. ambience is nice and clean. service was good and attentive. I'm giving it a 3 star because both prime ribs at the table came out medium and pink-grayish color instead of medium rare pink. next time I will have to go with Rare. the NYO Mac n Cheese wasn't out of this world as I expected after reading yhe recommendations on it. It had a nice crispy topic but it lacked in the cheesy-ness. overall the experience was just ok. for the price I expect more. Deviled Eggs were great. read more

I brought my dad here for his birthday dinner and let me just say services was excellent from the second we walk through the door. Everyone was very attentive checking in on us making sure everything was going well. Gave my dad a birthday dessert and card signed by the staff. We didn't expect it but that was very thoughtful! The food was excellent! From the appetizers which we got the calamari and Hong Kong shrimp. Delicious and large portion size we were a group of 7 (5 adults and 2 children) and it was more than enough for us to share. They were very accommodating with the kids did provide high chair for the baby and although not printed on the menu they do have meal options for children which were very reasonably priced. At the table we also ordered the NY Strip, Filet Mignon, and jumbo fried shrimp. All were excellent and large portions. The Mac and cheese was good as well as the Cole slaw and smashed potatoes. Overall food, service and ambiance was excellent. I wish I could remember our servers name bc she was so great as well! And truth be told for everything we had ordered the overall check was very reasonable coming out to about $60 pp (6). We will come back here. read more

We stopped off here when passing through Clifton and we're so glad we did. We don't have J Alexander's near home so we make a point to stop whenever we find one traveling as it never disappoints. This location was fantastic. Service was flawless and the food was delicious. The dining tables were well spaced so you could have a conversation. Shoutout to Justin our waiter for his attentiveness. I heard rave reviews about the service and the food The food was very good, however if our server Angie, had more knowledge of the menu and was able to answer questions about the different options of food my husband and I would have tried other things. The smiles from the other staff was so nice to see Our server Angie zero personality we will return to try again however if we are sat again with her we will leave read more

Too expensive! It does NOT have reasonable prices. I'm sorry $21 for a mediocre burger is absurd! AND their menu is VERY limited! We went there the first week it opened & must say we were greeted upon arriving. We went to the bar but didn't have to wait too long to be seated at our table. The bar service was great, because of Jeff. He's a real nice guy providing service with a smile. He's very attentive & friendly. Once we got to our table, our waiter Frank was also a star. He gave us great service & when we asked for suggestions he helped us. Now getting to the food! We had the spinach dip & chips & fried calamari, that dip is addicting & the calamari was fresh...crisp & not chewy! Now for dinner I had the steak frites as an homage to France (which I visited recently). The steak was cooked perfectly (med. well) tasty, juicy, not bloody yet not dry...& the fries were thin, crispy & not overcooked...sooo delish! My hubby had the NY strip with Mac & Cheese. It was also just as delicious! Now, Frank suggested the carrot cake for dessert! I must say, we fell in-love...it was warm, moist & just enough frosting! My hubby & I were able to share the cake since it's a decent square shaped slice! We just split it in 1/2 & it was the perfect ending to our perfect evening. Since we loved the people, service & food, we've gone back another 2 times...again, nothing but a great time & delicious food. (This time I had the fried shrimp, fries & their amazing coleslaw). Everything we've had so far has been great! So since we haven't been disappointed, we'll keep going back! I highly recommend this restaurant, whether you dine at the bar or are seated at the table...you should leave there quite happy! Next time, I'll post pics...it's just every time we've gone...we're hungry & get into the drinks & food that by the time we remember, we're well into our meals! Anyhow, just go! Happy Dining! read more
