Been here a couple times and the food has always been good. The prices are fair and the portions are decent. On my last visit the restaurant was pretty empty there was one other family so the service was quick. For appetizer we got lobster cheese fries and for me they were just okay. They do sell alcohol for those who consume, I ordered a sprite which seemed watered down (fountain drink). Should've trusted the 3 stars. Came here craving crab legs and left completely disappointed. Service was flat and unwelcoming but I figured maybe the food would make up for it. So wrong. The shrimp weren't cleaned, the crab meat was rough, and the shakin sauce was oily, overpowering, and left a foul smell even through the gloves. Bad service, worse food. Overdue review but here it is. Shaking crab has been one of our go-to spots for shrimp being that its a little closer to home and they serve pretty good flavored seafood. Our usual is their pound shrimp with Shaking Crab Sauce. It has to have the head on. There is just this better taste with the head on really lol ive tried before without it and its just not as delicious and satisfying i dont know why. Maybe its just me. Anyway, the appetizers are delicious too - Loaded fries, calamari, garlic noods and the clam chowder too. Pretty much everything on the menu is good. What gets the place crowded and busy at times as well is that they offer alcoholic drinks. Definitely brings in the crowd. If you are a lover of seafood and seafood boils this is a great spot to satisfy your fixings. The restaurant has about 10 tables and is a good spot to come to with a group. Compared to other seafood boil spots the price of the various options are pretty affordable. Was also surprised how not salty the flavorings were (pleasantly surprised) and even had to ask for salt from the wait staff. Wait staff is super friendly and the vibe is very casual. My friend was craving seafood at 9pm and this was only place that closed at 11, so we decided to give it a try and go. When we got there the place was small and cute. You have two seating areas, one where the bar is at and the other side just have a long bench on the side of the wall across. The host sat us down and we were able to oder. The waiter looked like she was tired and ready to go. She was ok but because she was tired a little attitude would come out of her. She was having such a bad day or something because when she went to the back of the bar she dropped all the garnishes. I know cause at that moment i went back there to ask her for something. Anyways though, I odered the fried shrimp basket that was pretty good, especially- because of the timing. So SHOUTOUT to the cooks. OVERALL, we laughed, we talked, and enjoyed our little bit of time. We got so bloated because everything was really good, so no complaints there. My first visit to Shaking Crab was absolutely phenomenal. It's in a strip mall, but don't let the outside stir you away, the inside is a descent size and cute in decor. We started out with the Fried Lobster Basket. Who would have thought that a fried lobster tail could be so delicious , it was fried to perfection. The lobster tail was so hot & juicy and nicely seasoned, it came with Cajun Fries which were fabulous as well. The fried lobster tail was followed by snow crab legs with corn as my sauce I picked envie which is a cilantro lime sauce, which wasn't spicy. It was really buttery, garlicky, juicy and delicious. While the food was really good, this is not a place I would recommend for a date unless you've been together for a long while; the meal is messy and you smell crabby afterwards. I washed my hands 3 times before leaving. The restrooms were very clean. As for the service it was just okay, not as attentive as I would have liked. Also there is parking, but if you park in the back it's very dark with no lighting. The Shaking Crab is a great outing for friends and family but definitely not a first date. What a great experience!!! I'd never been here, let alone even heard of the place. A friend of a friend mentioned how great this restaurant was so my friend and I decided to go. SO happy we did. The flavors was amazing and food was fresh! I had the snow crabs pot with sausage and the shakin seasoning; my friend had the shrimp and mussels pot with the Seoul sauce. We both loved our food and it came out quickly too. Being in on a Friday, environment had a "Friday night out" vibe with loud music and a busy bar. The only down sides were that the cocktail we ordered was really sweet (and I don't usually mind sweet)...enough to know to just stick to beer/wine in the future. Also, the gimmick of being served in plastic bags wasn't really my thing (they also do to go bags in....bags..) but the great meal made up for it. So would I go back? Yup! read more

I ordered the combo 1lb crawfish and 1lb shrimp in Shakin - hot. The spice was not too hot where I would have to drink water every few seconds but it was doable. The sauce wasn't bad but it was missing an extra spice/flavor, maybe sweetness? The crawfish was alright but I definitely enjoyed the shrimp more. My server was not so attentive, but the manager was very aware and making sure customers were enjoying their meals. Parking is a little bit difficult to find when it's busy in the plaza. Clifton needed a great seafood restaurant. I came in and ordered a very delicious lobster roll and amazing fries.($20.00). The lobster roll had a nice mild kick to it. The lobster is definitely the real McCoy here! It was definitely worth the price. The side of coleslaw was very tasty. Parking is available in front of the building and in the back. Location: It is located in a plaza with other businesses and it's adjacent to a stop & shop in Clifton. Parking is very scarce and its on a busy street so pulling into the lot can be difficult. Food: I got the snow crab legs which are $34. Add ons (i.e corn, potatoes, or eggs) are mostly $3 except for sausage which is $4. I got the house cajun sauce which tasted good. But the butter & garlic is kind of subpar. Overall the food is okay, nothing too spectacular but not bad. The fishbowl cocktail is really good and can get you tipsy for sure. Customer service: my waitress was nice and so was the hostess. The waitress got our food to our table in a timely manner. Ambience: Very intimate inside with low lighting. You can either sit at the hit top tables, regular tables or at the bar. I wouldn't go with a large party seeing as though it isn't a large space. A party of 3 -5 should suffice. We ordered almost $250 worth of food. We ordered a large clam chowder which came in a small cup filled only HALFWAY as seen in the picture. They charged $19 per ONE single king crab leg, $16 per ONE tiny lobster tail and everything was extra. They charged $4 for maybe ONE sausage cut up into several pieces, $3 for literally 5 individual quail eggs, $6 for 6 pieces of corn which were 1/2 of a corn cut up so you're essentially paying $1 for half a piece of corn. I also ordered fried oysters and spicy calamari and despite it being a weekend they did not have either of them in stock and they also had to refund me for one of the lobster tails that we ordered because they ran out. On a weekend. They did not have their shit together. Communication between the kitchen and the servers/manager was poor so they didn't even know what they had in stock and what they didn't have. They had to process 2 separate refunds because they realized they were out of food after I had paid for everything. All the food came in clear plastic bags which was very unappetizing. The seasoning tasted exactly the same for Seoul and Shaking Sauces. The bitter taste of garlic and butter overpowered any seasoning/taste. SAVE YOUR MONEY and go somewhere else. read more

I have given this place 3 tries before I came to write this review. The service is nice, and the decor inside is very cute. It's located across the street from stop and shop in Clifton, with a terribly small parking lot. Would not recommend coming here dine in on a weekend due to the parking lot and long waits. The seafood: every time I have ordered shrimp here, they are NOT fresh. There has been mushy, old shrimp mixed in my bag every time. The crawfish are also just ehh. The snow crab legs are really good and cooked well. I also love the blue crabs though they never had them after the first time I came here. The mussels are my favorite. The sauce: zero consistency. I always order the shakin sauce, medium spice, and it tastes different every time. I'm not a fan of that; sometimes it's more buttery and thin, sometimes it has a bunch of diced jalapeños and sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it's sweet and sometimes it's not. The price: I would say it's on par with other restaurants of this style. Overall, there are better seafood spots to go to. Move over Joe's Crab Shack! This is a legit seafood place for shellfish lovers. We came on a saturday night and this place already had plenty of customers. Ordered the pound of argentina shrimps with shaking sauce and with a side of corn and baby potatoes and it was excellent. I was very impressed by how many shrimps were in the portion. I couldn't finish and had to take it home. The sauce was very flavorful and garlicky and went very well with the shrimps. My dinner partner does not eat shellfish and had to order the only fish item on the menu which was the fried catfish basket. And it was really not good. The fish had too much breading and the fries were not crispy enough and tasted very frozen. We also tried their blue fish bowl drink which was sweet and strong. Service was sufficient. Music was a bit loud on saturday night Overall, a solid seafood place that won't break your wallet. Would love to come back and try other items. Initially skeptical but by our surprise the food was pretty good and the service was absolute excellent. We had mussels in cilantro & lime which was ok, clams in soeul sauce which was nice. Had a bit after you ate Then got the combo of Shrimp and crawfish in shakin sauce which was excellent. As many places i have been too for some seafood this is one of the top 2 boil places i like next to The Boil. the seafood is just amazing and to die for. Their shaking sauce which is the most popular is very good! the prices are somewhat reasonable but it's seafood and seafood is expensive so I didn't mind paying $36 for the shrimp and crab combo. If you like to eat a lot 1lb of bag will not be enough for two people so i suggest getting your own bag. Also , the wait here wasn't bad we were seated right away and the staff was friendly. The parking lot is really small which is annoying and i'm sure it gets crowded during the weekends. The drinks were soo good as well. read more

Neither of us expected to really have to wait the full hour, but it truly was a full hour wait (they appeared to be at capacity, and there were a few other groups waiting). I had the king crab legs with the original shakin' sauce, and they did not disappoint. The taste was fresh, the sauce flavorful, and it was still hot when brought to our table. My friend had the shrimp po boy and a side of gumbo. She said the shrimp po boy was good, just too much bread. The drink offerings were great. I couldn't decide if I wanted to purchase the fishbowl, so I opted for the mini fishbowl which is listed on their menu as 3-4 servings. We each had the tyson's punch and enjoyed it. This place had decent reviews on yelp, so we decided to give it a shot. For an appetizer we tried the spicy calamari. It was very good, but we only had three bites and our entrees arrived at the table. (We still didn't have drinks yet) I was very displeased with the margarita. It was $14 and came in a 10oz rocks glass. Margaritas do not come in rocks glasses. A margarita should come in a tall glass 14 or 16oz with 2oz of tequila, this clearly was not. The crab legs were good, but extremely messy. We didn't expect them to come in a bag and have to wear gloves to eat them. The gloves ripped on my SO's hands because they were too small for him, and were too big for me, that every time I tried to eat the crab, I had the finger tips of the glove in my mouth... extremely frustrating. We also had to ask for a cracker, since the server didn't bring them. They seemed to be extremely short staffed. We were there at 8pm on a weekday & there was one server. The prices were a little high too. Not sure that we'd return. Plus there's barely any parking. read more

Omg the food here was delicious! Came here on a Saturday afternoon before the happy hour and was able to be seated right away. Greeted upon entering from friendly staff. Our waitress came right away with the menu. My boyfriend and I already knew what we were getting because we have been checking the menu for over a week lol. I didn't get the waitress name but she was very pleasant, she answered all of our questions and even gave us suggestions. My boyfriend who is a seafood fan, ordered the shrimp and mussels and he was very satisfied with his meal and constantly said how much flavor the food had. I on the other hand, ordered the bbq chicken wings and omg finger licking good ! lol. I recommend this place to my friends and family.
