This is always a good go to restaurant. We had an office gathering here for the holidays- when I say gathering it was more of a celebratory lunch after Christmas! We are all so busy that was the first time we could get together. I really liked that we had a round table and could all be having a conversation together. The waitress was easy to work with and we all had different dishes that we were happy with . I especially love their salads and they give me as much coffee as i like! I love coffee! We were quite comfortable at home on Saturday night. However, my husband decided to take me to dinner so we took time to get ready and drove 30 minutes to have a dinner a J's. We asked the hostess to make sure to seat us in a kid free zone. Of course, she brought us to a table with a family and a baby. However, we decided to sit regardless. Big mistake! We placed our order with Emma our waitress and she brought us our drinks and appetizer. But within minutes the kid at the table next to us started letting out ear piercing screams that went on and on. The screams were so loud I jumped every time and couldn't enjoy my food. After enduring this screaming kid which was never ending and the family made no attempt to help the matter nor did any manger come over to remedy the situation as all the servers knew about the table with the screaming baby. My husband and I wanting to enjoy our dinner, we went back to the hostess stand and requested another table. The restaurant had many tables open in the center yet the same hostess told us we would have to wait in line for a table despite the fact that we already had our drinks, appetizer at our previous table and placed our meal order. That made no sense whatsoever so we asked for the manager and asked to sit at the closest open table. Keith the manager came to our table at our request and took it upon himself to reprimand us for being rude and disrespectful to the staff and nothing could be further from the truth! This was a total fabricated lie from the hostess! She was mad that we moved and didn't like it. Why would we wait when we already had a table and we were the ones that were inconvenienced. They are getting paid to be there we are not. I took the time to get ready and drive there for this poor service. The manager never even asked us what happened and didn't seem to care. He took our order again because our original order was never put in. We waited quite some time and asked our new waiter when our meal was coming but he said Keith never put in order. Which sounds like more Keith's retribution for whatever the hostess said to him about us. This disaster and horrible dining experience falls on the shoulders of the manager, Keith who handled everything poorly and instead of diffusing our poor experience he made it worse which was incorrect and unacceptable. Keith is clearly not trained enough to be a manager and as a result J's has lost a loyal customer. Unfortunately, Dennis the GM was not there as he knows us very well for many years and this would have never happened as we get along with everyone there. This is not an exaggerated review and I added my receipts which totaled over $18,326 over the years. Too bad for J Alexanders with this amateur manager Keith! read more

We recently went back. And ordered our favorite prime rib. As always it was excellent. We ordered chicken tender for the kids. Salads were excellent. We love their spinach dip as an appy. Food is very good. I've had several salads the burgers and most of the steaks here. The service is usually on point and the drinks are made well. The reason I don't give them a 5 star review is because I ordered a glass of wine and it was flat. No big deal waiter said he'd open a new bottle and give me a fresh glass. I didn't ask, he offered. Waiter was lovely, asked bartender to open new bottle. She got upset and opened new bottle but I watched her pour out half of the wine from original glass and add the new wine on top. Why must people be ridiculous? It wasn't like she made the drink and it was about her skill. I called the manager over informed him and he resolved the matter. I had been hearing good things about J Alexander's for the longest time so i was dying to come here. I decided that this would be the perfect place to have my birthday dinner. I made a reservation for 8:30 and arrived then on time just to wait nearly half an hour to be seated,which was really disappointing. Fortunately the management stepped up and offered us free appetizers, which was really nice. The food was good but it wasn't amazing for the price. I ordered the the New York strip with mac and cheese. The steak was cooked perfectly but it seemed like it was missing salt on the steak, but the herb butter they put on the steak was delicious and added some flavor to the steak. Overall the steak was good but not worth the 40$ price point. The star of this meal was definitely the Mac and cheese, the mac and cheese was flavorful and delicious, and I would come back here for just the mac and cheese. The food was ok but the service was excellent, my server was a fine young gentleman named Jeremiah. He was polite attentive and all in all a great server. We decided to sit at the bar and it love that they put plastic barriers for every two seats. Our bartenders were Charlie and Jessie, they were the sweetest and made the experience amazing. To start off we ordered cocktails and I got the "954" (Bullelit rye whiskey, bitters, blueberry jam, and ginger beer) and my boyfriend got a red headed Rita (tequila and pomegranate juice) wow I am in love with the 954. My next round was the doppelgänger which has whiskey ginger ale and cherry syrup, I was not a fan of the cherry flavor in the drink but if you want a cocktail where you can taste the whiskey this is the drink for you! For an appetizer we ordered the Mexico City spinach con queso which was delicious. You can ask for more chips if needed. For our meal we ordered the prime rib and the steak Maui. Our sides were NYO Mac and cheese, loaded baked potato and smashed potato. Mixed review about J Alexanders. I have had good and bad visits. The food is usually good, although the selection is not that large. The service is a hit or miss. The ambiance is ok. What I experienced was that the staff was not being treated very kindly. It looked like our serve staff was stressed out , in fact we witnessed a new staff member leaving saying this place is not for her because it's too stressful. I have been to J. Alexander's countless times. Yes, it's a chain, but they do the upscale suburban food experience well. The place has dim lighting and is handsomely decorated with woods and muted colors. There are many booths for a cozy effect and some tables as well. The open kitchen is a nice effect. Plantation is not the mecca for fine dining so J Alexander's has been a great choice when I have needed a place in the area to take customers. It is a bit noisy but I like that they take and honor reservations. For lunch I often order a salad like the Thai Kai Salad or Asian Ahi Tuna Salad. I have also ordered the Caesar with Salmon. The salads are always fresh and delicious. On my last visit I ordered the Ahi Tuna Steak with Zucchini, Brussels, and Cauliflower on the side. Both the steak and veggies were perfection. For dinner, I usually go with the Ahi Tuna Steak or Salmon. Once I ordered the Fish Tacos. Husband orders the Filet or Ribs. Everything is always prepared well. The service is good. So why not that elusive 5th star? The menu is a bit boring. Plus, I find J Alexander's a bit pricey for what they offer. A word of advice, if ordering the filet mignon make sure if you want it medium rare you order it medium and if you want it medium you order it medium well they're a little off on the thicker steaks cooking wise but the New York strip in the ribeye come out exactly as you order it temperature wise. Their mac and cheese is a memory in itself, along with the grilled artichokes. The Emerald Coast shrimp is a bite off of the bang bang shrimp from another restaurant with a little more honey mustard taste sauce. Other than that, it's a really good atmosphere. It has great selections on wine and alcohol, and the happy hour brings in a lot of classier single women and men. The area that this restaurant is in has a lot of parking space available. The ambiance in this restaurant is upscale to some degree, but Ive seen people come here in casual clothing. The area that I was sitting in had low lighting which enhanced the ambiance. The service was really good. Our waiter was attentive and checked up on us frequently. We started off with the Spinach con queso and it was really good. I had the Steak and mac n cheese. The steak was tender and very flavorful. The mac n cheese was also really good but I felt that it had too much of the topping on it but I just ate the bottom part of it and it was delicious. My dinner partner wanted to have a variety of drinks and I think that they were very well made. We tried a variety of drinks but ended up with the OUT OF TIME MANHATTAN which was really good. This is our Browards mini Houston's/Hilstones. The food is just superb, and the service as well. I love how big, spacious and neat the restaurants itself is. For those who worry about COVID, the booths are separated by plexiglass and tables are spread. Our last server Gil was nice and constantly checking if we needed anything, I like that. I dislike when I have to look around for my server. We had the spinach queso with chips to start. Yummm, I think I ate the whole thing by myself. My hubby ordered a Cesar salad (I was the fatty, no shame to my game) he really liked the cesar salad and order another one. Everything came out quick! I was surprised because it was a busy night, so it seemed. For my main dish I had the special fish of the day, and it was delicious. The white sauce they used was creamy and tasty, I had it with mashed potato and butternut squash. I liked the butternut squash better. Too much mashed potato. My hubby had the crab cake meal with butternut squash also. They were pretty good. No dessert this time but if you love carrot cake, they have the one of the best I've ever had, if not the best. It has been about a good 12-13 years since I have eaten in J. Alexander's. Prior to that I used to eat there constantly. I went on a recent trip to Nashville and J Alexander's was right outside my hotel. I ended up going there and ordered this amazing French pressed coffee. When my mother wanted to go out for dinner and asked to go somewhere different I thought that I really wanted that coffee. Sadly it was not something they offer at this location. Too bad, because it was amazing. Food: We started with the fire grilled artichoke...very good. A little too much butter for me, as I mostly eat vegan but gave me some ideas for home cooking. My daughter, husband and mother shared the calamari. My daughter and mother found the sauce a little too spicy for there taste. My daughter had the chicken tenders. They were very good and tender. The plate was filled with way too many fries. My husband had a pork dish with Israeli couscous which he enjoyed and my mother had the steak with smashed potatoes. I had the veggie burger. Not bad. The one in Nashville was better. The one here had a distinct beet flavor. I love the fries when then come out but since they are so thin they get cold quickly. Service: our server was awesome. She shared our disappointment not having the French pressed coffee. The place is crazy. We had 5:15pm reservations and it was packed. Make reservations! I was very surprised by the service, it was outstanding, especially for a chain restaurant. The was going for the most part. We started with the grilled artichokes and the fried calimari. The calimari was cut small and a bit over breaded, but did have good flavor. The marinara sauce was a little bit spicy and went well together. The grilled artichokes, I really enjoyed them. The flavor was so good I did not bother to use the romulate sauce that came with it. For dinner I had the grilled pork tenderloin with bang bang sauce and Israeli couscous. The pork was cooked perfect and the bang bang sauce was nice and spicy as it should be. The couscous was incredibly good as well. "I almost ordered another side of it." My daughter had the chicken tenders with fries. I tried the fries and chicken. Fries were good but I would of could of been cooked a bit more. The chicken tenders were great! Not overly breaded, very tasty and so tender. My wife got a veggy burger. I tried it. It's not for me, it's not the taste, it's the texture. To me the texture is like eating dirt. Used to be 1 of my favorite restaurants until recently when I picked up Togo meal for 1,they surprise charged me 6%for Togo containers. Laughable right, especially that there was no warning, the response when asked why, they say it's more expensive for plastic containers than Styrofoam. Pathetic excuse. And to know that when dining in, there isn't a charge for Togo container. Not to mention that this 6%charge is just taking away from tips going into their pockets. Furthermore, there's no plastic utensils or napkin in to-go. And another comical note,Dennys has the exact same Togo plastic containers but doesn't charge for them at all. The greed is an embarrassment to the brand. I'm definitely bitter. This type of treatment you hear about done to tourists at beach restaurants, (which still is absurd) but to treat loyal local customers this way is just ugly. Pure Greed. What an awful experience unfortunately. We come here from time to time and have always enjoyed our meals, the ambiance and the stellar service. This last time was quite different however. We had a few drinks at the bar while waiting for our table. I asked to try two different wines as I wasn't sure which to go with. The bartender reluctantly let me try the two but was not happy about it. When we closed the tab she threw the receipt at me. I was quite shocked at this. I brushed it off and went to sit at our table. The server came and went over the specials and menu. My wife ordered the pomegranate martini which he highly recommended. After about 10 minutes we asked what happened to it. He said the bar was backed up. Five minutes later he said they were out of martini glasses and that particular martini. Bummer. Had to switch to wine. We moved on to dinner and ordered 16oz slow roasted prime rib. It came out rare even though we ordered medium. We kindly asked for it to be cooked a little more. Sadly when it came back out it was chewy and lukewarm. At this point, we were so tired that just ended up picking at our salad and deciding to close our tab. Went to this restaurant tonight. Two of us had the mahi mahi and crispy shrimp with lemon butter sauce. While the mahi was fresh, all we could taste was a wood flavor. It was pretty darn bland and unfortunately, the brocolli was not drained well so it watered down the lemon butter sauce. The crispy shrimp were delicious but unfortunately they were tiny and you only got 5 pieces. It was served with a huge mound of whipped potatoes and brocolli. It was 40.00 and I would not order it again. Others at the table got the parmigiana encrusted steak and that was very good and served with a loaded baked at 45.00. I left full but unsatisfied. They need a nice pasta dish on the menu like an alfredo with chicken or shrimp. read more
