We are regulars. We either dine in or order on Uber eats and we generally have a great experience either way. We ordered delivery, and when our food was delivered, it was missing our side (fries) and the sauce that goes with the burger and the tuna. I was pretty sad because we ordered fries as our carb and ordered broccoli as our veggie side. The best part of the tuna is the dipping sauce! We called the manager, and he was extremely apologetic. He said very coined phrases like "we strive for excellence" and "I'm so sorry this happened." He said since we ordered from Uber Eats there was nothing he can do. I then spoke up and suggested that we are regulars and we would love to have maybe a dessert on the house at our next visit. The manager said he could not do that. I went to J Alexander because I had a hard week and wanted to unwind. These are my highlights 1. My waitress. Her name was Gina. She was a sweetheart. One thing that I valued about Gina is she took the time to not only say hello but took a couple minutes to have a quick conversation with me. Her presence was so warm and welcoming. 2. The staff. I can tell the management value team work. It was a busy night so often time other servers would stop to check on me. The staff is always helpful and friendly. 3. The FOOD! Don't be fooled the food is always amazing. My go to meals is the ribs and Mac and cheese and the chocolate cake. I personally would go to J Alexander just for the Mac and cheese. This time I try the Filet Mignon with Béarnaise it was delicious. The steak was juicy, and flavorful. Amazing. I try their Spicy Margarita and that was amazing too. The brownie was a special. I personally like their chocolate cake more. 4. This may sound funny but it is true. The best time to go to this restaurant is when it's raining or just rained. Especially the Plantation location. Came here to celebrate my husbands birthday and we had a great time. We had made reservations prior to coming and were seated right away. The high chair for our son was already at the table when we got there, it's small details that count for me so that was a nice gesture. The restaurant is very big and has a lot of different seating arrangements. The lights were slightly dimmed which was nice. They have a good selection of options. We were able to place my sons order first so it arrived with the appetizer. We got the calamari (not always on the menu) which we all loved. My son also loved his pasta with butter and grilled chicken. The ribs were also great, so much flavor and very soft and easy to come off the bone. My salad was amazing! I love how everything was cut in small pieces and the dressing was tossed in all the flavors were evenly distributed. Lastly the dessert, went with the iron skillet brownie which we loved how is was soft in the middle but the crust was crunchy. We had a great experience and enjoyed every bite. It ends the way it started. Their salad. Years ago they charged $3 to split a salad for a company lunch I attended. The server couldn't be bothered, so my coworker literally pushed half of the salad onto another plate and walked away. I wasn't paying the bill but I couldn't get over their nerve in charging to do that. It was really punishment for not ordering another lunch plate. Today we ordered a $17 Thai chicken salad as our appetizer for 3 people. The runner brought the salad, two dressings that go on the salad and 2 extra plates. We tried to use our forks, even 2 at a time for French service, but it was impossible to do with the chopped salad. No one came by so I finally got up and went to the reception desk and asked for a serving spoon. As we spoke, I saw my husband holding a spoon up so we assumed their peer gave him the spoon and we were good. I told them I was concerned that, because we couldn't split the salad to eat it, soon our hot food will come out and we won't be ready. They nodded. Yeah, so, they gave us a fork and a teaspoon. They told my husband they don't have serving spoons. They told him they don't expect people to share food. Wow. You know, I don't serve demitasse often, but I have tiny spoons. Years go by between our need for cake servers but I have them. I wound up picking up the salad plate and dumping some of the salad onto the plates. We didn't get a spoon for the dressings - and since their service is a fork and knife we didn't have an extra on the table. We had to call the server over and ask for spoons. Then a runner came over and put a plate of hot food down. We were eating the salad. I asked if she happened to notice we were eating the salad. She asked if I wanted her to take the food back. I told her to put it down - I figured I'd rather have cold food cooked once than food destroyed by heat lamps. The server came over and asked how everything was and I told her - this is low hanging fruit - having/bringing a serving utensil with the extra dishes, spoons for sides of dressing, checking to see if the guests are ready for the next course and hey, how about clearing the table of that course? The food is good but the service is a drag - this is the second visit in a row we had to struggle to get basic stuff. Our server apologized and offered us dessert. We didn't want it. We just wanted to feel welcomed and valued. I don't want to have to coach servers and runners about how to provide great service. I want to be a guest. This restaurant needs to train their team or hire people who know what good service is all about. We decided to take a break from going here. We'd rather drive to the Capital Grille and enjoy the experience - which would be a welcome change from today. read more

Nice place with consistently good food. Their menu is not too big, but they have a little bit for every taste, and everything I have tried has been well prepared. The decor of the dining area is up scale and seating is comfortable, but unfortunately, the dining room can get very loud, so it is a bit uncomfortable if you are trying to have a business conversation. It is a popular place, so it gets very busy during lunch on weekdays. On my last visit I had their clam chowder and I can highly recommend it. It was super tasty with lots of tender clams and just the right amount of potatoes. And as an entrée I tried the Ahi Tuna salad, not my favorite, but it was good. Food is always consistently good, especially their filet Mignon, I always get a side of thick sliced beefsteak tomatoes with olive oil and basil leaf. Though I do wonder if they have changed the prime rib to a prepackaged product as we were there a couple weeks ago and several of us had the prime rib and every piece looked just like the other ones. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by some very friendly hosts who took us to our table. The restaurant has a nice dark ambiance to it which creates an upscale dining feel. Our waiter Mick was very kind, helpful, and accommodating. We ordered the Cindy's lemon drop which was nice and strong; which is always an A+ in my book. Then we started off with the Cesar salad which had a great unique flavor to it, and very filling. I ordered the Carolina crab cakes which is my favorite thing to order. Our waiter greeted us with some water until we knew exactly what we would like to drink/eat. He was very honest with what items are really good. I decided to start with the Chicken pasta soup, it tasted exactly like chicken n dumplings. The flavors were very soulful. For the table we got the Mexican spinach dip, I really loved that dip only thing was it wasn't hot just warm. Our waiter did refill the chips once they got low which I loved but I know it would've tasted way better hot. For my meal I went with the Mr.Jack Crispy chicken platter, I've heard nothing with this meal. I did switch out my sides for the Smashed potatoes and NYO Mac. Best decision I made, the chicken was fried to perfection and the honey mustard sauce was amazingggggg. I love me a good mac but the NYO Mac needs its own show, best mac n cheese i've had in a while. We have been enjoying Js for years, living just around the corner, it's a go to spot for the entire family. Love the coziness, the service is always amazing and they make great drinks. Our past two visits have definitely confirmed a change in their food offerings. We are die hard Steak and fries customers. The first change, no longer putting pats of herbed butter on top, which may seem small, definitely changes the dish. There was something very special about how the butter melted and flowed into the fries with the steak juices. Secondly, the size of the steak has gotten smaller and the price is way up. Boo. The Ahi Tuna entree, another favorite, has changed its side to a COLD orzo salad which prior was hot smashed potatoes with a wasabi sauce. The menu does not state the orzo is cold and even if you ask for smashed potatoes, they no longer provide the beloved wasabi sauce. The server brought out wasabi and mayo for us to make our own. When we asked the server about the butter on the steak change, she said many of her customers voiced the same concerns, we asked to speak to the manager. He came over, we voiced our feedback and his response was, "well, I have never heard anyone else complain." Ummmm, yeah, ok than it must not be true...just ask your front line servers sir and you may hear the truth. Last but not least, please stop putting your metal sheet pans on top of your artichokes by the grill. Having the bottoms of the sheet pans on food is gross. Bleck. And a crowded place means worthiness, especially at the caliber of J Alexander's. No appetizer for me, delved right into main course. I chose my favorite ribeye steak, which they have it as steak Maui. It was cooked to perfection, up to my specification. The mash that came with was a bit too much for the plate, but I ordered a side of tomatoes salad with balsamic vinegar. Priced at $43 it may look a bit pricey, but worth every penny, in my opinion. We went for Mother's Day lunch. It was busy but extremely efficient. Many times I dread eating out on these types of holidays because the service and the quality of the food suffer due to sheer amount of people that are there. That was not the case today! Waitress with blonde hair is also very rude and the only reason why she's still there is because how long she's been working there. Witnessed her yelling at one of her coworkers. They have chef specials too so it's always something new but have the classic menu.
