Well, J. Alexander's is one of the best! Some must try menu items include: Grilled Artichokes (I feel like they are known for these), Spinach Con Queso (fancy cheese dip) and Tortilla Chips, Meatloaf, & the Crispy Chicken Platter. Oh, and I can't forget the steaks--they grill theirs to perfection! If you are a drinker, I encourage you to order a martini. My family went here for my birthday dinner on our vacation in pompano! I have a deep love for prime rib so I was excited to see what this place was about. We started off with the chips and queso which were soo delicious. My fiancé and I got prime rib (mine- med rare, his-well done) and both were amazing!! I never am a fan of well done steak but they knocked his out of the park, which in my experience is very hard to do with prime rib. Of course, mine was amazing, only thing I could say is the au jus needed some more flavor to it but still good. I love the food at J Alexanders but tonight I ordered Takeout of 2 orders of their Roasted Artichokes. This was my first and last time. Tgey actually charged me a "package fee". I didn't have it delivered. I drove all the way from LBTS to pick it up myself. I was appalled that they charged me $2.16 extra. Lord knows what the gas cost me to drive so far. It's not the amount but the fact that I brought my business to them and they charged $18 for 2 artichokes, which I was willing to pay, but when I called to order, NO ONE said anything about this extra fee. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the good food and excellent surface were unchanged, although the menu, perhaps slightly simplified. Our waitress, Tricia was pleasant and attentive. My Tuscan steak was delicious,; excellent quality and perfectly cooked. My partner's filet mignon was also prepared beautifully. there was a little problem, not worth mentioning, the staff immediately recognized it, and took care of it, and even compass it delicious carrot cake without question. First off we usually go to the plantation location but decided to go to this location. I ordered filet minion with loaded baked potato. The steak was so small and chewy. It was not good quality meat. I have ordered this before and had a piece of meat you can cut with a fork. This one I had a hard time cutting and I asked for medium rare and that definitely wasn't what I got. For the price I paid it wasn't worth it. My husband got the steak and fries and it was just ok... not a good quality of meat either. I think we will be going to another place to have a good steak next time. Pretty disappointed. Went last night with a party of 4. I ordered a salmon that I asked to be cooked MR and was dry and over cooked. I asked it to be served with wild rice and asparagus. And a side salad. My other guest ordered a veggie burger. He was served a hamburger and I was served with the salmon on top of the side salad and had to send back the salmon and salad and the burger both to be corrected to what we ordered. The other served who was in the area of the table and took care of it and the manager brought the veggie burger over. Our server never apologized for the mix up on the order and never checked back on us. We have gone here for years and never has service been so bad and screwing up an order so bad. What a sad misstep by management. Simple request for two unmarinated ribeyes. Steaks came out marinated. We requested again unmarinated. Steaks came out overcooked and the manager didn't bother to come over on a sleepy Monday night to apologize or offer a comped drink. Not what I would have expected from a quality place. Lessons learned. Avoid this place for a while until they learn how to treat guests properly. Our waiter Andrew was terrific. I've been going to J. Alexander's for 30 years. Last Thursday was the worst experience I've ever had. I called to ask what time the kitchen closed. I was told 10pm. I arrived before 8:30 and there was a mad rush to clean up behind the bar. I ordered chicken pasta soup. The runner brought it out. I asked him if I could please have a roll up and some pepper. He said, "They have that behind the bar." Are you kidding? There was absolutely no way to get a bartender's attention. No one came back and asked how the soup was. It was way too old and thick. When I finally asked for my check and expressed my disappointment to the bartender, she tried very hard for service recovery. She didn't charge me for my soup and drink. I sincerely appreciated that but I had to find somewhere else to eat. I regret that I didn't get her name. I told her I was going to J. Mark's for the rest of my dinner. There, the food runner always asks if you need anything else. Not only did the food runner not ask me that at J. Alexander's, he refused to get me a roll up or pepper when I requested it. If your staff has to do a big job at the end of shift, please close early rather than treating customers so poorly. When I called and asked what time the kitchen closed, I should have just been told, "We're closing early tonight." read more

After going to the J Alexander's in Boca Raton and really enjoying their grilled artichokes, I decided to try their Fort Lauderdale location. We came during lunch during the week and the small bar was full. We grabbed a booth nearby. Service was friendly. There weren't any happy hour lunch specials -- or rather they had some specials, but not as good as the prices/deals in Boca. I started with their artichokes, of course. They were good -- a tad smaller than the ones in Boca -- but still quite good. My husband got their lunch special steak tacos. Soft tacos -- 3 of them -- filled with lettuce, peppers, tomatoes and some sliced steak bits. There was a dipping sauce on the side. As I'd shared my artichokes, I got to try one of the tacos. They were good. It's a much larger building inside than you'd imagine and located right next to krispy Kreme. There's ample parking all around their building in their lot. I'm glad we went. Always a nice experience with exceptional service and a great vibe. Made a reservation on a busy Saturday night and was seated right away. To me the star of the menu is the Alex's salad. It's the perfect concoction and best way to start off any meal there. I also had the prime rib which was is always great there. Make sure to ask for their creamy horseradish if you get it. Our server was, as always, super friendly and professional. My only constructive criticism is to maybe offer a few more daily entree specials given the menu is somewhat limited and has been the same for a while.
