I had not been to J Alexander's in a while and I can't even remember why because this place is classic. We were kindly greeted and immediately seated when we got there. I love that the kitchen is open and we can see what's going on. Our waiter was superb. He was friendly, gave us some great suggestions and really made our time enjoyable. It was the perfect balance between too much and not enough - in other words - amazing!! The food was just as I remembered. The southern fried chicken was amazing and the shoestring French fries...O-M-GEE!!! I basically ate them all Off of my hubby's plate. The filet but like butter and our sides were divine. We've been here for birthdays, events and just to go out on weeknights with friends. Make a reservation as it's popular most evenings. The parking lot can get full. The menu has something for everyone, and the food is consistently good. Nothing spectacularly special but if you know what you like, it's the same each time. Slow Roasted Prime Rib on my last visit was as good as always, and a perfect medium rare cut as requested. It's not as flavorful as other restaurants in the area but still tastes good. I can't pass up J Alexander's Grilled Artichokes. They are delicious. Fried Calamari is also a favorite appetizer choice. Steak Maui is another of my go-to entrees. Tasty marinated rib-eye grilled to perfection! Friends enjoy the Baby Back Ribs, Pork Chops and Grilled Salmon. Salads are big and entree size. The full bar mixes mean martinis and cosmos. Wine selection is on the higher end than other business casual restaurants and serve my favorite Chalk Hill Chardonnay by the glass. Like every other aspect of the restaurant, service is consistent. The BEST prime rib in Fort Lauderdale. It's tender and melts in your mouth with a nice flavorful au jus. Every time I order it, it always comes out cooked perfectly. I do go before 7/8pm so maybe I'm always getting the best cuts. $40 compared to longhorns $30 steaks. It's worth the extra 10-15 bucks to me. The service is always on point. It's a nicer restaurant so you do get the attentiveness. I never feel rushed or bothered. The lighting is always candle or low light which I'm just into that kind of ambiance. J Alexander's is one of our FAVORITE restaurants to go to. We have been to several locations and the food is always good but the Fort Lauderdale location has the best service it's always top notch. We love coming here for birthdays and special occasions they sing and always make everyone feel special on their birthdays or on their special day. The food is always great as well - we have never had a bad meal here - every dish we have ordered has been yummy and delicious. The steaks here are kind of pricey but worth every penny, when you just want a nice simple steak that's perfectly cooked how you like it, this is the place to go. Some of our favorite dishes are the French dip sandwich served with fries and the fried chicken believe it or not is absolutely amazing here as well. They have some of the best fries as well that we have ever tried they are so good. For desert I highly recommend the key lime pie or the carrot cake that's served warm that's covered in icing it's the best way to end a great meal here. We had a nice family dinner at J Alexander's. We were seated at a semi circular booth which made it easy to talk with a large group. The atmosphere is beautiful, with big wood beams in the ceiling, a large open dining room, and nice lighting. Everyone liked their entree. The standouts were the fried shrimp, seared ahi tuna, and the salmon. Our server was amazing, and we had a lot of fun chatting with him. I think he had fun too! Back for another birthday lunch. The celebrant is older and wanted to sit on the top level for less noise. Having been in the biz I could see the hostess figuring his request out. I surmised that the server stations were assigned and this area wasn't open but of course he got his table. And luckily our server was the lovely and efficient Tyra. She was just awesome. The open kitchen concept is open for viewing by every customer as they enter the main doors. The bar is isolated at one side of the restaurant although it's lit up nicely and the boards affixed next to the liquor bottles with the cocktail description with prices printed in white chalk is a unique touch. Ordered the crab dip with toasted garlic sour dough as an appetizer. My entree was a medium-well ribeye burger topped with white sauteed onions and a massive pile (see pic) of thin crispy fries. The burger was cooked perfectly and juicy. The manager greeted us upon entry and the server was attentive. FYI: This is not a discount eatery. I was there Saturday night (6/27/26) for the first time at this location. I ordered the 16 oz Prime Rib which I wasn't aware existed. To be honest, it arrived rare vs. what I ordered as Medium Well and was giant and unusual looking. I wasn't interested in having it & changed it up for various reasons. I ordered the soup of the day -- it was like chicken pasta or something like that. It was just "ok." The grilled artichokes were really greasy - we didn't even finish them and his chicken Caesar was blah (I know chicken Caesar isn't that exciting but...). The worst part was being seated at a table (we prefer a booth but it was busy so I get it). Please change out those chairs! When pulling the chair in my boyfriend smashed his fingers so hard. Feb 2026, or Server Dakota was fabulous, he took great care of our table, and I made sure the Manger knew that Dakota was fabulous. OMG! The food was delicious. The Prime Rib (medium rare) was cooked to perfection. My other friend ordered the Shrimp dinner, and she enjoyed every bite, and the Shoe String Fries. We ended with coffee that was freshly made and delicious and a warm Carrot Cake that was to die for especially the foresting. All and all, we will definitely come back here for dinner. read more

The customer service was great from the minute we walked in. We went on a busy night with no reservation and were seated very quickly. The crab dip app was excellent with my fruity sangria and the French dip shaved sandwich was juicy and wanted more even though I was full. We had a perfect burger dinner at J Alexander's! Gavin was our friendly and very professional server. He did everything right! We started with a Three Rivers Cabernet- only $35 a bottle. Perfect with burgers. I had the veggie burger with beefsteak tomatoes and broccoli. They make the absolute best veggie burger. My partner had the steak burger ordered medium. It was delicious and it came with a pink center, perfectly cooked. His side was orzo and wild rice. I need to find that recipe and make it at home. Nothing here went horribly wrong. But no one did great either except for our server who apologized for the initial delay in a proper and sincere way. For the price, the flavorless steak and fries were ok at best. Honestly the fries too much and mushy. The delays weren't epic. The vibe just ok. The silverware coming to our table after our food and only when asked not ideal. When asking for napkins as the silverware came solo, we were given paper ones. This is not what you'd consider a fine dining steakhouse. I rarely hand out 3s but that's what's happening today. Edible and not egregious but not worth a return, and I live down the street. Our server was excellent and attentive to our needs. We started with the Calamari which was fresh and cooked perfectly. However the marinara tastes like spaghetti sauce which we were not a fans of. Both of us had steaks and we were not crazy about it. The quality of the meat and seasoning was just okay but not what we expected for fine dining. Love this type of higher-end, chain restaurants because we don't have many of them in NYC. So, it's a treat when I can visit one. You know the genre--Capital Grill, Uncle Julio's, Ruth Chris. Well, J. Alexander's is one of the best! Some must try menu items include: Grilled Artichokes (I feel like they are known for these), Spinach Con Queso (fancy cheese dip) and Tortilla Chips, Meatloaf, & the Crispy Chicken Platter. Oh, and I can't forget the steaks--they grill theirs to perfection! If you are a drinker, I encourage you to order a martini. They make big, strong ones there and give you the remainder in a tiny shaker so you can replenish your drink at will. I'll definitely hit up J. Alexander next time I'm down in Ft. Lauderdale. This usually reliable restaurant really misfired tonight. They were overbooked and slammed, which showed up in the parking lot before we even walked in the door. Despite having a reservation, they made us wait. Once seated, our inexperienced server gave misinformation about one of the specials which led to a cascade of problems That the manager, to his credit, tried to solve. The careless kitchen sabotage him at every step delivering overcooked meat, and overall taking too damn much time. The prices on the menu suggest that this restaurant has pretensions of competing with the likes of capital Grille. The execution is more like outback or Applebee's and that's not intended to be a compliment. Kaluz and Houston's blow this away. Tonight it was like a weeknight at J Mark's only the last time I had a steak at J Marks it was 16 bucks. It's Triple here. By the way Tropical Acres blows all these places away for less money and a more professional attitude. read more
