I was disappointed beyond any expectations. First off the place is nice decent bar with TV's has potential. However it falls short drastically when it comes to food. We started with the queso dip which was pretty good. My wife first ordered the steak and had to return it. It was to be medium but it was rare over seasoned and COLD. She opted for the chicken platter after and again over seasoned with fries. Initially, in hindsight we should have returned that entree as well. Remember the chicken. I ordered the pork chop. The size of the meat was good but the glaze for me ruined the dish. I didn't complain especially after the steak fiasco. The sides broccoli and mash potatoes were terrific. So because we felt bad I opted for them to wrap up the chicken. The mgr and waitress were nice. They forwarded us a big piece of pie. Key lime pie was ok. So we left thinking we may go back the service was nice. Return and maybe sit at the bar. So the chicken remember was to be wrapped up and paid for? Well last night I went to my fridge and grabbed the box from J Alexander and it was not the chicken. You know the entire dish was not in the box although paid for it. What was in the box? The bleepin bone from the pork chop. So the staff said don't wrap up the full meal but instead the bone from my meal. Well that was it. I will not return to this place as it has a long way to go. From the cooks to the inept wait staff that couldn't wrap up the damn food I paid for. So needless to say they need to get their stuff together. This is the first week and the chefs should always be on point. They were not. In addition people behind me returned their dishes. I wish them luck but the food was well below expectations for the prices. To wrap up a bone instead of the finished dish was it for me. I was livid and will be for a good long time. read more

Waiter had the gall when he came back with my credit card & bill he said " I't worked" that should never be said to a customer and was lucky we left a nice tip. What a nice addition to the neighborhood. We stopped by and were very happy we did. The restaurant has a sleek modern vibe. The staff were very friendly and attentive. And the food, fresh and delicious. Our table started with the deviled eggs, very good. We ordered the fried chicken platter, Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and the Cypress salad. Work in the complex of J Alexander's, my manager and I decided to order lunch. I called you cannot order over the phone I had to walk over. Entering the restaurant the door was held open for me. I walked to the front desk and asked to place the order. I was told you have to go to the bar. I waited at the bar for 3 minutes then walked back over and said there is nobody at the bar I am waiting. Answer was oh I'll go get her. Did we not see anyone there from the start? Ok we order two old fashion burgers which come with fries. I waited 15 minutes in the bench in front of the restaurant across from the front desk. I observed two girls chatting away able to listen to their full conversation the one young girl was chewing her gum very aggressively. She did run over and open the door for the patron leaving as she CRACKED her gum in his face. Okay now for my order the girl at the bar brings my two orders and hands them to me NO BAG. Oh sorry we don't have bags. WHAT!! So if you were ordering say 4 dinners or more you would walk out with them in your hand? Next I get back to work and notice a 6% package fee for my order without a bag to carry it back with. HUH! The burger was delicious the fries were over salted by a heavy hand. I did reach out to the General manager Matthew Ballard several times. He could never take my call unfortunately. Overpriced, the culture just is not there. First time going there today and it was excellent. First off I would like to say the server Justin was probably the best server I ever had, he was very nice always had a smile and was very friendly with us, he did not rush us or anything like that. The food and drinks (cocktails) were great as well. I got a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and it was amazing!!! the portion sizes were excellent I could barely finish my meal. We stopped in for lunch. We were greeted warmly at the front and by our waiter, who was outstanding . My wife had a classic cheeseburger and I had a spicy chicken sandwich. Both were outstanding! The fries were some of the best I've ever had. Because we were so full, we took a key lime pie to go. Equally great! This is now added to our list of favorite places to go. Unfortunately my experience here was disappointing on every level ranging from a cocktail with an unidentified taste to it to a very fatty steak that never should have been served to poor service. The similarities between J.Alexander's and Houston's is quite noticeable in comparison to the menu offerings and even down similar details of the booth tables with step up tags but that's exactly where it ends. I ordered a few things to try Hong Kong Shrimp - standard app you'd find at a a chain restaurant. A bit on the greasy side and extremely salty. Thai Kai Chicken Salad - sort of similar to the Thai noodle salad at Houston's. Decent, but nowhere near as good. French dip - Flavorful but leans more toward the fatty side of meat. The bread was spongy and was messy. Again not as good as Houston's. Carrot cake - was told this was their go to dessert. Was absolutely covered in frosting just felt like I was eating a pile of sugar. Did not enjoy it. As a new restaurant I understand it takes some time to tweak things here and there. Sat at the bar. Was asked by bar staff what I wanted to drink. When I got my drink , I noticed the bartender laughing and joking excessively with some customers sitting next to me. When she took my order I asked for a burger with no bun. She acknowledged it than went right back to laughing and joking with the customers next to me PS .. the burger came out with a bun and I am gluten intolerant. I ordered it med rare .. it came bloody red. After saying it was ok, didn't want to cause a scene, after the next few bites I bit into something hard. It was either a bone or very large grissle. I took it out of my mouth and began to bite into it again. Once again I bit into a large chunk of grissle or something. At this point I was disgusted and was apologized to by the manager. I brought my dad here for his birthday dinner and let me just say services was excellent from the second we walk through the door. Everyone was very attentive checking in on us making sure everything was going well. Gave my dad a birthday dessert and card signed by the staff. We didn't expect it but that was very thoughtful! The food was excellent! From the appetizers which we got the calamari and Hong Kong shrimp. Delicious and large portion size we were a group of 7 (5 adults and 2 children) and it was more than enough for us to share. They were very accommodating with the kids did provide high chair for the baby and although not printed on the menu they do have meal options for children which were very reasonably priced. At the table we also ordered the NY Strip, Filet Mignon, and jumbo fried shrimp. All were excellent and large portions. The Mac and cheese was good as well as the Cole slaw and smashed potatoes. Overall food, service and ambiance was excellent. I wish I could remember our servers name bc she was so great as well! And truth be told for everything we had ordered the overall check was very reasonable coming out to about $60 pp (6). We will come back here. read more

We went there the first week it opened & must say we were greeted upon arriving. We went to the bar but didn't have to wait too long to be seated at our table. The bar service was great, because of Jeff. He's a real nice guy providing service with a smile. He's very attentive & friendly. Once we got to our table, our waiter Frank was also a star. We had the spinach dip & chips & fried calamari, that dip is addicting & the calamari was fresh...crisp & not chewy! Now for dinner I had the steak frites as an homage to France (which I visited recently). The steak was cooked perfectly (med. well) tasty, juicy, not bloody yet not dry...& the fries were thin, crispy & not overcooked...sooo delish! My hubby had the NY strip with Mac & Cheese. It was also just as delicious! Now, Frank suggested the carrot cake for dessert! I must say, we fell in-love...it was warm, moist & just enough frosting! My hubby & I were able to share the cake since it's a decent square shaped slice! We just split it in 1/2 & it was the perfect ending to our perfect evening. Since we loved the people, service & food, we've gone back another 2 times...again, nothing but a great time & delicious food. (This time I had the fried shrimp, fries & their amazing coleslaw). Everything we've had so far has been great! So since we haven't been disappointed, we'll keep going back! The Hong Kong shrimp and avocado appetizers were good. The shrimp was similar to Bang Bang shrimp. Our server was great. Her recommendations were on point. She also had a great personality and was attentive to our needs. The main dishes were liked by the majority. A couple of the side dishes didn't seem freshly made, like they were reheated. Words cannot describe the experience I had here. From the second I walked in, I was welcomed with smiles from all the workers. The environment is amazing and had a very comforting feeling to it.
