Dr Haselhorst is a very fine denist. I became familiar with him when he was featured in a local news story (on dental techiniques). I hadn't been to a dentist in years so though a chain of events, I would give him a try. So in 2001, I decided to give him a try. He is a former instructor of dentistry at Northwestern (before the school ended the program). I have been with this office ever since. My first visit resulted in a root canal, which was nearly painless. Friends of mine had root canals and they couldn't speak for a few days. I was good as new the next day. In fact, I never had a problem with him or his office at all. Considering my roots are much deeper than normal, this proved to be a challenge. His appointment book is ALWAYS booked months ahead. He and his staff took the time to explain what was being done and why. Almost a decade later, I am still satisfied. My experiences have been positive. read more

I found Naperville Dentistry and Dr. Hazelhorst DDS. while I was looking for a new dentist after a few rough outings with other dentists. The staff was excellent and Dr. Hazelhorst does fine work and with almost 0 pain. He takes the animosity out of going to dentists and it's quite a relaxed building in old historic Naperville. DON'T COME HERE. This "office" is actually in an old house in Naperville, it's dirty, the equipment is old and outdated, the dental assistants have no problem having completely inappropriate conversations within earshot, and worst of all: THE DENTIST TOOK OUT THE INCORRECT TOOTH. SERIOUSLY. I went in, after years of not being at the dentist, scared of my mind because I don't like them. I thought the place was sort of run down, but I looked him online, there were no reviews like this one to be found, so I thought I'd support a local business. There's no seperate offices, it's just a house, and there's ..sections, sort of. You literally walk by other people having work done to get to where you're sitting. I thought it was way Texas Chainsaw, but I was in a lot of pain, and thought I was doing a good thing, local businesses, rah rah rah. I came in on a Saturday, had x-rays done, went home, took antibiotics for a week because my tooth was badly infected, came back to have it taken out the following Friday. First off, I got in before anyone was even there, so they were late opening the door for me. Then it took a while for everyone to set everything up (why make an appointment when you open if you're just going to make the person wait anyway..) While sitting there alone, waiting, I heard the assistants talking about what they'd done that weekend, one girl was sick from eating Filet of Fish, and they put me on the gas. I went off to lala land, they removed a tooth. At some point during the operation, the dentist yanking and pulling on my mouth kinda brought me back to what was going and I put up my hand to signal I was uncomfortable, and the dentist literally said "The tooth is already out, I don't know what you're getting upset about" How about the fact that you're pulling on my face??? JUST A THOUGHT. After I was more coherent, the dentist asked me if I was sure I didn't want him to remove the tooth in front. I was confused by this, and shook my head no. While I was waiting to leave, I heard the dentist talking with the assistant about the tooth they removed, and I heard him say he had removed a tooth based off my x-ray and not what I'd told him. At the time, this didn't register with me, probably because I wanted to get the f out of there before I ended up hacked to death in the basement. I paid what I owed and left. I got home, waited two hours, removed the gauze, and discovered he had actually removed the tooth two behind the one I visited for. I immediately called them, went back (at the time, I didn't know what else to do, ) and was put back on gas. One of the assistants tried to get me to sign an authorization from WHILE I WAS ON THE GAS. I refused because it was for the incorrect tooth, they corrected the paperwork, and he removed the correct tooth, I went home, miserable and confused. This dentist billed my insurance for the removal of two teeth even though he only had authorization for one, and then tried to bill me an additional amount. It was only when I called and explained that I knew billing for something you don't have permission to perform is insurance fraud that they stopped trying to collect a false balance from me. I have reported him to the ADA and to the Better Business Bureau, but I want to make that there's something else to tell people not to come here. Another quick side note: This dude used actual old stitches in my mouth instead of dissolvable ones, so when it came time for them to come out, I called 4-5 dentists around me and no one wanted to take them out because it was another dentist's work. Solution? I took them out myself in my bathroom. That's how much I did not want to come back to this guy. Think about it. I also lost a huge chunk of bone where he took out my tooth and there's like a gaping hole there because he took out the wrong tooth, and the tooth he removed didn't need to be taken out. Please don't come here. I wish there had been a review for me when i was looking for a dentist nearby. I recommend Scott Morris in North Aurora, dude is awesome. Edit: Anyone else kinda suspcious that the reviewer outraged by my review only has ONE review, and it's for this quack? I'm glad that other people have had good experiences, but mine was anything but and I stand by it. read more

DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. I had the very worst experience of my life with this creepy dentist. The office is this old run down house, and the place is filthy inside. I don't know why I didn't walk right out the moment I saw the place, but I wish I had. He was rude to his employees and had to take x-ray after x-ray of me, because he couldn't seem to get it right the first time. It was almost like a joke I came in for a routine root canal, and he had me return on 4 separate occasions, because the seals kept failing, and he had to redo his work over and over. So after the 4th visit, and after paying him over 1000$ for his botched work, I told his office manager that I was going to another dentist because I was not satisfied with the work Joe Haselhorst was doing. So I then find out im being sued for the remainder of the cost of the root canal that HE NEVER FINISHED! So this @#$@# is sueing me for services NEVER rendered. . . . they never even listened to me when I explained that it was due to the poor service that I was no longer returning, I should have asked for my money back!! Thy irony is that if he had not sued me, I would have never written this review, but in a sense im glad he did so that i can warn others of the risk of going to him. And I cannot warn you enough to stay away from this practice! read more

I went to Doc Haselhorst because my dentist sent me to a rude oral surgeon that wanted $1200 to remove one wisdom tooth. I was freaking out about it too because I'm one of those people who never really gets numb (so I thought.) Doc Haselhorst took the time to just let me lay there and let the medications soak in and I got Nitrous Oxide. I was totally numb, didn't feel a thing, best dentist I've ever been too. It was a good price too and he lets you have a copy of your x-rays without any hesitation. He's also normally really fast too as I've been back since. Great dentist, great price! UPDATE all of the work I had done had to be redone. The filling he did cracked and chipped. The wisdom tooth I had pulled didn't need to be pulled, I had nerve pain from a tooth that needed a root canal. I could even see it on the X ray (I'm not X ray tech either.) They also like to schedule you for an appoinment because its been 6 months and then pester you multiple times a day when you can't make it for that random date. Wow, what a mistake. At least I now know that Nitrous works on me other then that he was a a huge waste of time, money and tooth. If I just wanted to get doped up I'm pretty sure there are street vendors for that sort of thing and they would be much cheaper. read more

I laughed at the "Dr. Joe" comments. Really? Casual atmosphere? If mold and dirt are casual, I suppose it is casual... The place is disgusting and so is the quality of dental work. Joe has been my dentist for 8 years or so. He knows I am a big baby and is very kind and gentle with me. The office is a bit more casual than I am used to but he makes it worth it. Dr. Haselhorst was recommended to me by my kids dentist. He and all of his office staff go to Dr. Joe. That spoke volumes to me. My husband has seen him once and was treated wonderfully and felt very comfortable. Yes the office is in an old house but who cares? He has great chairside manner, is very willing to answer any and all questions and is a former NORTHWESTERN professor. On two occasions he has assisted myself and my daughter with issues with our braces. He saw us on very short notice and did not charge a cent. Our orthodontist is over an hour away so this was a tremendous help. I'm a dental phobe but I have found my new dentist and can quit driving 75 miles to my former one. I won't hesitate to recommend him to others. read more
