I'm not sure why the other reviews at this point are so low (a 2-star and 3-star.) I've come here off and on - at least a few times a year - for years. The service is always warm, the place is always clean. The food is typical of Ixtapa - which is to say it's Freakin' Awesome! You must try their Chile Colorado (with extra lime and onion on the side!) Cheap too - you can split most plates. I've never ordered a drink at this one, so I can't vouch for their bar tending abilities. Beer is a reasonable price though. Yum! -- My standard rating disclaimer: I rate places as compared to other similar places. In other words a hot dog cart or taco stand can easily be five-stars when compared to other carts and stands. read more

I've lived in the valley for over 20 years & have visited Sultan Ixtapa many times. That said, every time I go, I say I'll never be back due to one thing or another. I decided to give Ixtapa another chance lastnight since I like to support local businesses. I think this very well may be my last & final visit. There were three of us- myself, my boyfriend, & his teenage son. We got there at 6pm on a Friday night. The main didning room was about half full & the secondary dining room had one table occupied. I may be over-analyzing, but to me it felt like the female that seated us (I think she's the matriarch of the family) was very unhappy that we were bothering her with our business. She walked us to a booth & we asked if we could have a table instead. She kindof huffed a bit & said "well you can have that one, but not this one," for whatever reason. So we went to the table that we were "allowed" to sit at. She flung the menus down in a pile & promptly took away the extra silverware & napkins from the table before walking away (because god forbid we were left with an extra napkin or utensil?!). The next female came over with our waters & asked if we wanted something else to drink. My boyfriend asked for a side of pico de gallo. Her response was "DO YOU WANT SOMETHING ELSE TO DRINK?!" I'm going to give her the benefit of the doubt that she wasn't trying to be rude, but the way it came out could definitely be interpreted that way. We ordered two margaritas & a soda. Our pico arrived & to me it looked old. Is making pico de gallo ahead of time & freezing it a thing? Cuz that's almost how it tasted....only smothered in black pepper. I'm a self-proclaimed pico connoisseur. I know there are special secret family recipies, but it should look & taste fresh. This pico did not. We decided what we wanted & piled our menus up, which I believe is the universal signal for "I'm ready to order." She passed by us a few times & then eventually made her way over to take our orders. Our food arrived rather quickly, which should be expected with Mexican & the fact that everything was on the daily specials. However, it was all less than appealing to the eye. I am not exaggerating when I say that the plates are probably the originals from when the restaurant opened 20 years ago. The floral design on the plates was literally worn off in spots & the entire plate had a black film on it that I have never encountered on dinner-ware before. My side of mole, while it had great flavor, was served in a soup bowl & had a terrible grease layer on top & hastily slopped over the edges of bowl. The refried beans were bland & almost watery, while the rice was dried out. All three of our orders were off the Specials, meaning they were $1 off regular price. Our total was nearly $80! The last time I spent $80 on three meals was at a luxury hotel while on vacation. read more

I've lived in Sultan just about all my life and for as long as I can remember my family has been going to Ixtapa. And to be completely honest not a lot has changed at Ixtapa over the course of that duration. We've received the same great service from mostly the same friendly staff over the last 15-20 years. I truly appreciate family owned restaurants, they just seem to care more than chain establishments. The prices are fair and the portions are huge here. I definitely recommend the enchiladas -- the plate is huge and they are just so damn good. Ixtapa isn't flashy and not a lot changes. But it's a reliable place to go to for good service and a great meal without waiting 25 minutes for a table. They're practically woven into the fabric of this small town. read more

I'm so saddened and disappointed to be writing a bad review about any Ixtapa because I grew up on Duvall Ixtapa (I know they are all owned by different people). My husband and I have recently moved to town and wanted to support a local business and picked Ixtapa. We were greated right away and at down at our table. We were offered water and ordered a Margarita as well. We then ordered our food. I ordered a Flauta and Enchilada lunch and my husband ordered something that was a steak, chicken and shrimp. The chicken was way under cooked and my husband asked for it to be fully cooked. They brought a plate and he put his chicken on the plate and then they brought it back more cooked. The shrimp was overcooked. They did apologize for the under cooking of the chicken this time. We felt the food was way under seasoned and bland. We finished our food they brought our check. The total said 48.13 or 48.18 I couldn't totally read the hand writing. I was astonished when the credit card slip came back and said $50 even. I didn't want to cause a scene, I wrote still a decent tip making it 58.00 and we will NEVER be going back again. Very sad! But I really wanted to like this place. We've been to a number of other Ixtapa's and love the food, very nice and efficient wait staff. I have not visited this location but I have no plans on doing so. I will not put my money or my family in a setting where management uses excessive vulgar language on a social media platform to confront someone for posting they didn't like the delivery fee. She was also quoted as saying," I dare you to talk your big game to my face if you have the balls". This is a horrible way to talk to someone if you own/manage a business. Came here on 10/31/17 for the first time. My kids really wanted a cheese burger, I know you're like a cheese burger at a Mexican restaurant? Well, I know they're kids, plus I had money to pay, burgers are on the menu so I said why not?... we'll the customer service was horrible. I ordered one cheese burger, thought I'll split it in half cause my kids are very little and they won't eat a whole burger. I guess they were very hungry so they ate that burger the. I decided to order another one cause they were still hungry. When ordered the second one the waitress gave me a "kill" look. Like how dare you order another burger? If you ask for a drink special they will give you the most expensive thing there, and everything tastes like it came out of a can. We had two 8oz hot chocolates with a little bit of alcohol, and shared a plate of nachos and it came to almost $40! I have lived in the area a long time and have never been in there, and after my first experience I will NEVER go back. We were stuck in traffic on Hwy 2 (real surprise) coming down to city for first time a couple weeks. In stop/go line-up, a friend and i decided to stop in this Ixtapa for once. It's been some years since going there for no reason other than I am always in a rush to get back out of city. Food was perfect. Betweenmy meal and two other orders, the standard solid flavor of Ixtapa local chain was on par. Completely full, great taste and ready for the road again, traffic began moving after we walked out. Let me first say that we do not live in the area. We went here because we are visiting family and they don't have much for eating around the area. Secondly, the food was alright, it's your average Mexican food. However, the service was absolutely terrible! For there only being a few places to eat you'd think they would appreciate the customers they did get but no the waitress seemed very burdened to be waiting on us and all of the other patrons. Stopped in one day after skiing. I was seated right away by a Latina woman. I'm assuming the owner and she was very friendly. Not long after I had chips and salsa brought out to me and water. I've been here when I was the only customer and yes, the staff are hanging out at one booth, carrying on and laughing. Hell, I'd get a sign holder out there or something to bring in more customers. Everything tastes very heavy at this place. I think they cook everything in animal grease. The only good thing on my plate of hot food was the uncooked tomato and lettuce. My brother had fajitas and even the sautéed veggies on his plate didn't taste right and were very heavy. If you like heavy food, you might like it. I prefer fresh. One of my favorite local places to go!!! The food is great, they always remember what I a like to eat and even give me great suggestions to try. My family has been going here for over ten years. They even help with items that aren't on the menu to adapt. My youngest had his first solid foods here (avacado) and every time we went there, they would slice one up for him. I remember this place being better in the past and then I went there but when i went again on the 3rd it was horrible. The chicken quesadilla is what I ordered and the chicken tasted like it came from a CAN! Gulp. I know... the sacrilege... My man was like "why does this taste like tuna?" and I said "it doesn't...but it does have that "canned" flavor" and then boom- epiphany. This chicken might be canned. And when you pay $10 or more for something, for it to come out of a can is tom foolery. I don't appreciate it. I cannot prove it or anything though.. Also the chips were SO stale. They should test them real quick before serving them because chips expire fast in that environment. The first watery salsa they brought us was inedible due to being too hot (spicy) and we asked for milder and that one just tasted weird. All mexican restaurants should at least be on their game with the salsa. And it's a little odd how the proprieter stands around with her hands behind her back between the kitchen and dining area and you're wondering if she is looking at the customers or blocking anyone from seeing into the kitchen where the (drumroll please) CANNED chicken lives. hahah read more

I eat here once or twice a week, well i did til todays visit. went for lunch was nice to have music playing for once instead of the female owner watching her mexican soap opera in the middle of the dining room. today the heat was broken and my wife and 3 month old froze. they offered to move us after filling the table with food and stated that they wore trying to get it fixed. So if you know the heat is broke in half your restaurant why seat a family with a baby there when the whole place is empty. i ordered fajitas they came as usual with tomato ends, black part and all. They say the chief insists on using them. he is dressed like a dish washer but i'm sure he knows best right ;) The tortillas were hard as a rock and only got worse as they cooled meaning I doubt them to be less than 24hrs old. our waitress was part of the family but i hadn't seen her before but she looked just like our favorite waitress only younger so im guessing sister. she must have forgot she was waiting our table and went off ona 25 minute phone call not even looking out of the kitchen once. the cook sat and waited the table next to us while she talked. then i watched her make 2 maytais on the phone just pouring away with out even trying to portion ingredients. i have spent thousands eating here as a resident of sultan. that ends today.
