I've been coming to Mai at Tran's Barber Shop for some time now. I absolutely love her. She does a great job, is very reasonably priced, and is normally very readily available (she is typically off Mondays and is gone maybe once a year for a longer period to visit family). The space definitely has an old school vibe, and there's really nothing sexy about it, but everyone is friendly. There is an ATM on site as only cash is accepted. I especially enjoy the straight blade shave at the end when Mai cleans my neck of stray hair. It always feels so good with the hot shaving cream.

I asked if she can taper a little higher and that's when everything went bad. She chopped off everything where I can't comb over because it's too short. She started to use force to move my head around. Her tune changed. At the end she said the style I wanted didn't look good so she gave me the style of what she thought was good for me. I had tried a few places since relocating from the shangri-la of Philadelphia; none of which were that bad (but not great either), all of which were expensive. I mean like 2-3x what I paid in the 215th. $70 for a clipper cut...come on, fam. So, I was still on the lookout for the Bethesdan home base. I saw Sinatra's situated right across the street from one of my Bethesda favs, The Writer's Center, and thought I'd give that a try next. It was a good call. The space is clean, and professionally put together. Check. I was getting ye ol' tighten up from "Q". Star Trek reference, I think not. Super chill. Super professional. Didn't rush through the job, and it was (and is) an excellent cut. With a men's haircut you also get a wash...from a most expert washer. It was more like a dang head massage...awesome. (Btw, tip your washer). And if you need a cherry on top, they were spinning some old school hip-hop. All of this brought me to $50 (plus tip). Sinatra's, for me, is an absolute no brainer. I will most definitely be a return customer. Maybe I'll see ya there!
