We dipped in yesterday at open & I tried an assortment - almond Croissant, spinach & feta quiche, Amaretti citrus cookie & a ginger molasses cookie. The quiche was big! Flavorful, great crust & very feta- I love cheese. The almond Croissant was spectacular. And the cookies delightful. I ran in today eager to see what was new! I snagged a savory biscuit and drilled over the full case. She had creme brulee today! I loved chatting with Emma & her employee. My enthusiasm might be a bit much, lol. I was looking for a bakery to purchase a red velvet cake for my best friend's birthday, and I only had about 6 days before I'd need it. I'd called another place but earliest that I would be able to pick up on the day that I needed it was 2 PM. That was entirely too late. However when I called Sweet & Savory, Meghan told me she could do it and asked me when I wanted to pick up. She said that they opened as early as 8 AM, even on Sunday. So, I requested to pick up the cake at 10:30 AM, on the Sunday of the day I needed the cake. She asked me a few details about the cake design, but I told her to be creative. I gave her the colors I wanted, and icing choice, but she could be creative with design. Per Megan, I know now that she doesn't prefer to not have a cake design concept from the customer (I can understand why, because without it, it can be a nightmare with some customers), but I trusted her expertise. I'm a creative person, so I know sometimes it can be confining to not allow an artist to let their creative juices just flow! I had feeling she would come up with something amazing, and SHE DID! Can I just say, she knocked it out of the park!?! The cake was gorgeous and delicious! My friend love, love, loved the cake! She's still talking about that cake and it's been a week! The folks at our event loved the cake too! It was so soft and moist (that is difficult to do with red velvet cake) and the icing tasted like a cream cheese, the macaroons were out of this world and overall it was incredible! I cannot wait to use this bakery for future events and/or special occasions! Her buttercream flavor is delicious and the whole cakes always come out delicious and beautiful! All of our guests always compliment the cakes because of sight and flavor and ask where it's from! I was interested in their basic sourdough - two sizes available. The smaller ones were still too warm to slice, so I opted for the larger loaf. It's deceiving just how large this loaf is when it's on the rack, but sliced and bagged it was almost the length of my arm! And very reasonably prized at $13. They come in a freezer bag too! I also learned pepperoni rolls are one of the WV state food and this establishment won best pepperoni roll 4 times, so we tried those as well. So very good - it was a pretzel roll with prepperoni inside. We were lucky enough to get 2 or their 4 remaining cinnamon rolls. The lady helping us said they are worth every calorie and she was not exaggerating one bit! We took a bite of them in the parking lot before we left and I walked back in for the last two to take home and freeze. (Sorry for those after me!). They also offer local and delicious sounding jams, cheese, cheese, milks, and some little trays of cheese that would be perfect for an impromptu picnic with one of their pull apart baguettes. They also offer beverages in a cooler case. Super friendly team working there with absolutely high quality and delicious items. Definitely check them out if you visit Harper's Ferry or surrounding areas. I'm sure anyone local also knows how special this place is. The young lady working was super friendly, professional, and genuinely seemed happy to be there--which made our experience even better. She kindly offered us samples of several flavors, which helped us narrow down our choices. I ended up going with a scoop of Piña Colada and something new to me called Candy Dream--a purple gelato that surprisingly tasted like strawberries. Super refreshing and different in a good way! I got mine in a waffle cone, but was a little bummed to find out it was the last one already--only an hour after opening. My husband had to go with a sugar cone, which was still tasty, just not his first choice. We originally came in hoping for chocolate, peanut butter, or salted caramel, but learned they rotate flavors daily--so what's on the menu board isn't always available. Just something to know ahead of time if you're craving something specific. Overall, great little spot with delicious gelato and warm, welcoming service. We'll definitely be back to try more flavors (and hopefully snag a waffle cone next time)!
