I did my research and due diligence on this company, including reading the thousands of extremely negative yelp reviews, which is part of the reason I didn't sign up with this service (also check out the glassdoor reviews on how the employees feel about the company). There are at least 2 class action lawsuits against this company for not delivering on their obligations of finding appropriate dates for their clients. Before I knew all this, I had an initial call with a salesperson (Jessica Da), and she and I talked for about an hour about all the things I'm looking for in a guy. I was very detailed, much more so than simply answering the questions she asked, and we probably talked about 30-50 different categories and traits that I'm looking for, I mean I really covered everything and was very detailed because I know exactly what I'm looking for, and if I'm hiring someone to find him, then they need to know too. There were some traits that she asked me to be more flexible on and I was (such as expanding geographic area). The whole point of a matchmaking service is for them to find guys that are what you want , otherwise I have easily found guys on dating apps on my own for free. She didn't ask me to send photos of my exes, which concerned me. That's something that I think any good matchmaker would want to see, so they know who I'm attracted to. I noticed right off the bat she couldn't answer basic questions - what's their success rate? How many people (or men) are in your database? This is common and obvious stuff that other matchmakers have easily answered. She would just brush it off and say, oh it changes every day! The cost I was quoted was about $4500 for 24 dates within 1 year. I was shocked to hear that she could promise 24 dates in a year with all this criteria - it didn't make logical sense. And it was also odd that the number wasn't tailored to me and my preferences, since it's not at all customized, which is the whole point of paying thousands for professional matchmaking. Anyways, I asked her to send me the contract to review, and insisted on sending her photos of my exes so that she could confirm that they have guys that fit my criteria and who look like that. Well, once I got the contract I understood that this was a scam immediately. I'm an attorney, but even laypeople should be reading those 3 pages (very short) and understanding that this company does not put itself on the hook AT ALL. The contract had NOTHING that we had discussed - it didn't say any specifics, no age range, ethnicity, religion, kids, personality traits, looks, career status, income, I mean NOTHING. This is how they scam people. They promise the moon on the phone, verbally, and then they have you sign a contract that includes none of what you were promised. The contract simply says they will match you with guys that meet your age, parental status and I think religion preference, but it doesn't even say what those are! Like if you wanted guys that are 25-35, it wouldn't include any numbers in the agreement, it would only say, 'agreed upon age range'. But what is the agreed age range? It's not in writing anywhere. Look, I work with contracts on a daily basis, and no reputable company EVER has a contract that short, that vague, that lacking in any detail or obligations. Absolutely unreal how they end up agreeing to NOTHING. I mean, what's the point of the contract if it's not going to say the details of the service they're offering? Guess what part is detailed and not at all vague? The fee they collect. She calls me the next day and I tell her exactly this, I even offer to redline it for their attorneys, and she says, well that's just how the contracts are and we never change them. Zero explanation, zero accountability. So if you can really deliver on the type of guy I want (24 times, no less), why is it a problem to put that in your agreement? Why? Because they can't. It's all a lie, an alleged fraud. It is extremely unfortunate how people are being absolutely taken advantage of with these matchmaking services. My advice is, if you're going to spend $5K on a matchmaker, spend $300 on a (reputable) lawyer to look over the agreement on your behalf. With this company, they refuse to change the contract, so don't waste your time with them. I'm just glad they're being sued and held accountable for this shit. read more

They had a wonderful sales person who assured me that they had a good selection of men that fit what I was looking for, and that they did an extensive amount of time researching them so that we would be compatible. They assured a certain amount of dates for the 6 months term, but never made it clear that I would only get that amount of dates and no more. Basically you get one introduction a month and no more. After waiting weeks, they set me up with someone never married, no children and at least 5 inches shorter than me. I thought they would have understood from my background of being married for over 20 years and having several kids that it would be an important for me to have in this in common. I am very reluctantly rating It's Just Lunch 3 stars and am tempted to rate it 2, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt. It is very pricey for 6-8 dates, costing approximately $1,000.00. Clearly I was at my wits end when I came here and signed up. The representative that met with me in Irvine was genuinely friendly and a good listener. However, don't give them your work number because they will call you on lunch break and that is not an appropriate conversation at all to have with them in your cubicle. UNLESS you happen to have a closed door office where you can talk with them quickly, it is not worth risking getting in trouble. It's Just Lunch says they screen their candidates and won't sign you up unless they feel like they have actual good matches for you. I can't foresee them turning people away unless they were creepy. I also felt reluctant to be set up with someone who is divorced and had a kid and even said so, but they were encouraging me to meet up with said candidate. Besides relocation, that was part of why I felt the need to put their services on hold for 9 or so months which they enabled me to do. The guy they introduced me to was nice enough, around my age range, but unfortunately we did not develop the kind of chemistry that brings you to dating exclusively. He was kind enough to treat me to 2 great meals and accompany me shopping, even though he was a busy, 3rd year law school student. As for It's Just Lunch Corporate, who I tried to get permission to waive the $200.00 to transfer my membership fee from OC to Boston, ha. Did they get back to me from 3.5 weeks ago (almost a WHOLE month)? Hell no! Not yet! And for paying the exorbitant fee above, I EXPECT MORE! (Update: on second try to the corporate office, the lady apologized and was able to extend my hold for me 4 more months, but couldn't waive the expensive $200.00 transfer fee). It wasn't worth the money. In a whole year, they could not find me one guy who I'd consider going on a second date with. (You guys, I'm talking weirdos. No one creepy, but just...weird. odd. boring. ETC. BAD. DATES.) The one guy who was normal and cute, was not even in my county - the distance was too great. They are located in Florida, and don't understand how far Riverside and Lake Elsinore are from South OC! And the dates they try to set you up with and you say no thank you to still usually count toward your total # of dates you are promised, if they think they are a good match, even if you aren't interested. I had a problem with height. I am looking for a guy over 6'1". Sue me. LOL! But I am. They thought this was outrageous, and in a whole year could not find me one acceptable, nice, normal guy, who was tall. I told them I can walk into a bar or grocery store anywhere and find at least one!! I guess no "normal, regular, cute, nice" people sign up for this service, haha. Optimistic that this dating service would be a great alternative to online dating I signed up with It's Just Lunch. So far I have been greatly disappointed and regret not checking with the reviews on Yelp. So far since joining in early February I have had 2 dates, one prior to having the required "face to face" interview in March and one in May with a nice gentleman who lived 90 miles away! I knew when signing up I was only guaranteed 5 dates in a 12 month period but based on the solicitations and pre-joining conversations that was the minimum, not the maximum, and based on the "number" of great potential matches available I was optimistic that I was going to be dating often with great matches. Several times I have requested my money back but to no avail. At this point I have decided to just ride it out, still optimistic that somehow the odds will fall in my favor. Customer service has been OK, when signing up or when a date has been available the staff is very attentive, when in the holding period, no calls or responses to emails. It has been a very expensive option to dating, $540 per date. At least the gentlemen I have gone out with appear to be a higher caliber than any other online site. read more

When I launched my dating campaign, I reasoned that this service will be professional and would provide personal attention over and above what I might experience on a dating website. I reasoned that I would be matched with peers who are motivated to find a companion. The reality is that I get infinitely more professionalism and opportunity to meet motivated viable candidates on Match.com than through IJL. I have been a member for two and a half months and have been matched with one man whose experience with IJL was equal to mine. It had been purchased for him on a silent auction by his daughter. I was stood up for a Skype meeting with the dating coach. No effort has been made on her part, nor anyone's, to reschedule. If I had it to do again, I would not have anything to do with IJL. This was a terrible rip-off. I am so frustrated that I fell for it... please don't make the same mistake. I never post reviews, but since they won't give me my money back, I figure the least I can do is try to prevent other people from making the same mistake I did. High Level: I'm convinced they have almost no one in the 30-45 age range available to match. That's why they won't give you any indication as to how many there are. This is San Diego but if they don't have a decent population size here, where would they?!! Detail Level: First, they did a "bait and switch": the first person I talked to was wonderful and I never heard from her again after I paid to sign up. Instead, they handed me off to a man who did nothing but send me form letters. Right off the bat, I spoke to 3 different people about what I was looking for (because they asked me to) before they proceeded to ignore my preferences entirely when sending me matches (and these were very basic things, like religious preferences and whether they want kids). One person they sent me was a widow, as stated in the profile they made for him and in the email from my "dating director" when they tried to set up the match. Because the match met none of my other very basic criteria, I said no. Then they proceeded to have someone else tell me in the same phone call that (A) the "dating director" (who told me the guy was a widow) knows the matches very well and has reasons for thinking we would be a good match beyond what's stated in the profile so I should trust him, and (B) that this person was not really a widow, as if that would make any difference in whether I wanted to meet him (it didn't!). This was such an obvious contradiction (A and B) that any modicum of credibility they had left was officially gone. After sending me several TERRIBLE match options, I went out of town for work and became less responsive for a week. At which point, they put my account on hold without asking me. After 4 months of being on hold your account is closed and they keep your money: so that's how this scam works, in case you're wondering. They take your money, hand you off to someone terrible, send you one horrible match at a time with a time delay between, and then put your account "on hold" without you asking until your contract expires and they keep your money after providing zero worth. read more

DON'T GET Stuck with a Crazy Date. I just received a letter in the mail regarding a class action law suit about this company, so I just had to see what the reviews were like. No I am not joining the suit as you get a whole 100 dollars even if you do. It worked for me because they let me in for virtually nothing and I just wanted to get some adult time after raising 4 kids alone. So going out, chatting and going back to a quiet home worked okay for me. However as far as them finding just the right kind of people match you with thats not what happens. They let me stay in for a quite some time after my alotted time was up, so even with that the odds were against me. I inquired about the services of this company some years ago and its representatives do not stop calling me. They have even called on Valentine's Day to highlight the idea that I am single. Worse than that, they are very mean. One engaged me in conversation and when I was told it would cost $3000 to meet four people, I was aghast. At that point the woman hung up on me. I've only been set up on 3 dates out of the 6 that they guarantee and all 3 were just terrible. This is the biggest rip off in the whole dating business. First they lied to my beauty queen 25 yr old daughter telling her they had matches for her. Her first date was nothing like they described! Not only was he not successful, he didn't have a job. Not only was he not good looking, he was a troll!! The second date was even worse! You are just a computer profile for a then complete stranger ( after you have spent at least 2-3 hours with the prior person talking about your likes, dislikes, etc) who then only knows you as some profile. You have better luck managing your own profile on eharmony or match.com. The coordinator are horrible. They never call back. This was the biggest waste of money and time ever ! You basically are paying $250 to go on a date and then pay for your dinner too! They hound you to sign up and take you money then waste your time. I am embarrassed and ashamed of myself for falling for this dating service. The initial phone interview seems encouraging. As someone who was out of the dating scene for many years, I thought this might be the way to ease back in . WRONG! I was told I would have a personal dating coach, but the first person I had quit. After he left - I got emails from a host of people - no consistency. The idea: after you go on a date, you share details about what you liked and didn't like, and your coach would use this information to better refine your matches. I had 3 dates in 6 months. My first date was a disaster - we had NOTHING in common. I was shocked that IJL had matched me with this man! The 2nd date wasn't much better and the 3rd date was worse. Each date cost me approx. $1,000.00. They wanted to continue trying to find matches for me, but I threw in the towel. What a huge waste of money. And - these are blind dates. You don't have the ability to speak to your dates in any fashion before agreeing to meet with them. Had I been able to ask a few simple questions, I would have known there wasn't a match there.
