They have the best drinks, have tried multiple and have not had a bad one yet. Nice area too will come back for more.

Polite cheery staff and a plethora of drink combos, from smoothies to shave ice with red beans! You can't go wrong with a couple of macarons and the pricing can't be beat!

    making my drink

This place is amazing, I come here twice a to get a drink, my usual is just a Thai tea. While I'm writing this review I going there right now. What I do is that when I'm like 12 mins out from boba time I got on their website and order it there so then I just have to go in and tell them my order number then walk out with my drink. In my opinion using the app is a real time saver.

This is my favorite Boba Time location. Friendly staff and easy metered parking in front! Roasted Oolong milk tea is my go to. The boba is prepared perfectly. Jean took my order at the counter. I love that they take mobile payments as well. Would recommend!

A Rather Compact, Yet Still As Equally-Comfortable Cafe. The Name Of The Game Here Is Convenience, As This Particular I.B.T. Branch Is Smack-Dabbed Near The Middle Of Eagle Rock's Busy Corner Intersection At Colorado. For Anyone On The Banking Get-Go, It Sits Comfortable Next To A Bank Of America. Whilst The Cafe Is A Bit On The Small Size, It's Service And Wide Variety Of Menu Goodies Are Not To Be Ignored. There's Absolutely Something For Everyone, Whether You May Be A Fellow Boba Or Coffee Lover. One Of My Personal Favorites Is The Double Mango Smoothie. For What You're Paying For, It's A Sweet And Refreshing Pick Me Up. My Go-To Garnishes Was Some Boba; To Add Some Excitement, The Addition Of The Scoops Of Coconut Pudding Add Some Wickedly-Tasting Sweets For The Sweet That I Recommend To Try. I Also Definitely Love The Galaxy Iced Tea, Whenever I Need Something On The Iced And Tangy Side. A Special Shoutout To The Wonderful Crew Members Of This Location Who Worked Here During My Most-Recent Late Night Visit. They Were Very Kind And Welcoming, And Have That Sweethearty Local Energy. I'd Also Like To Singularly Mention Alexis And Andrew For Being Absolutely Lovely And Treating Each And Every One Of The Constant Orders Here Equal Parts Tender And Care. If You Happen To Be Perusing Around The Eagle Rock Area, Give These Guys Some Live And Try Out Their Wonderful Creations!

THAI TEA SLUSH NO.1 FAN. The service is really fast and the cashiers are always nice. Even when it's extremely busy you won't have to wait for a long time! Have been going to this place constantly every week for over 5 years that's how good the boba is.

Not only was the flavor amazing (which made me want to return and try them all) but the presentation was definitely instagram worthy. The one negative is that the seating was not plentiful for all their customers but this is definitely not a negative for the owners. That just means they have a great business. Location is in old town so parking might be a challenge.

A Little Cheat Night Never Hurt Nobody!…read more After eating the juiciest chicken ever at Loli Farms, I've been eyeing this dessert spot for a while, and luckily it was only 1.6 miles away. So obviously... dessert was happening. Perfect excuse for a little cheat-night treat! Parking Hack: Don't pay $5 for parking! We parked about 7 minutes away in a parking structure for only $1 for 2 hours. After all the delicious food I inhaled, I definitely didn't mind getting a little extra cardio in. Pasadena parking is definitely doing the most, so parking structure it was! Mango Melon Shaved Ice -- $8.50 | 7.8/10 Mango-flavored shaved ice topped with melon balls and served with a side of milk drizzle. The shaved ice itself was SO soft and fluffy, and the milk drizzle gave it just the right amount of sweetness. The only thing was... I really couldn't taste much mango in the shaved ice. It was pretty subtle, so I wouldn't say this one completely blew me away, but it was still a refreshing treat on a hot summer night. Definitely not the best I've had, but certainly not the worst! Injeolmi Shaved Ice -- $7.50 | 7.7/10 Milk-flavored shaved ice topped with mochi, layers of Injeolmi powder, and more milk drizzle. This was actually our first time trying Injeolmi, so we were curious! The combination of the soft shaved ice, milk drizzle, and nutty Injeolmi powder was really good and made for a fun flavor combination. My only complaint? THE MOCHI. They were soooo tiny! I wanted that satisfying chewy squish, but these little guys basically tasted like mini boba that disappeared the second I bit into them. The shaved ice itself was perfectly soft and honestly the star of both desserts. Inside, there aren't a ton of tables, but luckily we snagged one right when we walked in. And let me tell you... this place had a constant flow of customers the entire hour we were there! People were coming in and out left and right, with only one ordering machine, so expect a little patience if it gets busy. Overall, both shaved ices were pretty decent and made for the perfect little "I already ate too much but I'm still getting dessert" moment. Definitely a nice way to break the diet after our chicken feast! Would I come back? Absolutely, especially to try some of their other shaved ice flavors. Happy desserts!

Parking is pretty difficult, and valet is $5. I can easily see the parking lot getting gridlocked on a busy day. I sampled a few of their gelato flavors, including the jasmine lychee and soy sauce. Both were okay, but I just wasn't in the mood for either of them today. I ended up getting the Pandan Toast to try. The pandan flavor was really good--not too grassy and didn't taste too artificial. The ice cream also had a buttery taste to it. It might have been from the toast, but I'm not too sure. The bread itself wasn't oily, which was nice, but it was kind of dry. The pandan sauce definitely helped make it easier to eat. I probably wouldn't eat the bread by itself though because it was super hard and didn't really have much flavor. I wasn't sure what to expect from the toast, but it wasn't quite what I expected. I originally wanted to try the mango sticky rice flavored shaved ice because it looked really good in the photos, but unfortunately they didn't have it today. I'd come back to try their shaved ice when mango is in season again!

The hot and sour soup was thick and chunky, just how I like the soup. The scallion bread sandwich with 5-spice beef was distinct. The bread was perfectly baked and the beef was flavorful and juicy. There was both mustard greens and pickles that gave crunch and acidity to balance the meat and bread. The lotus root salad was refreshing while still having a kick from their in-house chili oil. Dan Dan noodles were also excellent. Fresh cucumbers, chewy noodles, flavorful sauce. Hearty portions with enough for a lunch the next day. Also appreciated the speed of service. They also had really authentic and delicious looking cold appetizers like woodear mushrooms and lotus root salad. There was barely a line when we arrived and we were able to order and get a table without much wait. The food all came out at the same time and very quickly. We got their shrimp wontons, Chia Yi chicken rice, and sesame scallion bread stuffed with braised pork belly. I was ready to be transported back to Asia when I saw the dishes but tasting them left me wanting more. The shrimp wontons had very thin silky wrapper which was very tasty, but the shrimp itself was so bland and lacked texture. Most of the shrimp wontons I've loved had a nice bite to it from the baking soda soak but this was just soft dumpling skin on soft shrimp. The shrimp itself could've used more salt and white pepper too, but I suppose dousing it in chili oil helped. The scallion bread filled with pork belly is probably the tastiest dish. The pork belly was well cooked and paired well with the sweet sauce, crunchy peanuts and fresh herbs. The sesame scallion bread however tasted like it has been sitting out on the counter for hours waiting to be stuffed. The bread was cold and the exterior wasn't crispy, there were scallion pieces throughout but you couldn't really taste it. I would recommend trying other dishes before trying the chia yi chicken rice. The shredded chicken was dry and bland, mixed in with mostly soggy pieces of fried shallots. The rice was more flavourful because it was soaked in fragrant oils, but it also left it very mushy and almost congee like. The pickled radishes didn't add much to the dish either. I almost forgot but we also tried their honey lemon black tea and passion fruit black tea. Neither tea had a lot of tea flavor, it was mostly just sweet. The passion fruit syrup was pretty tasty but we both wished there was more black tea. I might be extra critical since I grew up with this type of food, but there are other restaurants in LA that delivers great quality Chinese food. TL;DR: Joy is a well decorated restaurant with good vibes that prioritizes speed of service over freshness and flavour of food.

Street parking can be a little difficult, but they do have a parking lot in the back, which makes it much easier. We ordered the Houjicha Marron Shaved Ice and the Iced Brown Sugar Miso Latte. The barista was super helpful with explaining what each drink was, didn't steer us in any direction though. The Houjicha shaved ice was the standout. Houjicha is a toasted green tea, and the flavor is a little difficult to describe--it has a warm, grainy, almost wheat-like taste that's very different from traditional green tea. At first, it can seem like an unusual flavor, but don't give up on it. Once you add the syrup they serve on the side and keep eating, it really grows on you. It somehow gets better with every bite, and before you know it, you can't stop eating it. The Iced Brown Sugar Miso Latte wasn't exactly what I was in the mood for, but it was still well made. It had a nice balance of umami and sweetness without either flavor overpowering the other. While it wasn't my personal favorite, I'd still recommend it if you're looking to try something a little different. Overall, Anko is a great spot if you're looking for unique Japanese-inspired desserts and drinks in a calm, beautifully designed space.
