Used a RED camera there once which was awesome. Got to be classmates with students from different backgrounds all over the world. There was a test there I took, I couldn't process what I was reading, the words on the paper did not make sense, I am not dyslexic. So I walked out and said I give up. Still went back to class the next day. There's this logic class, the tests are super difficult, I don't even know why I was taking that class, I'm an art major there for animation. There is also this class taught by Cupid that was terrible. Something happened there that I can't explain. So let's just say I'm crazy. Lost my mind, transferred to another school. They accepted me though, my application. Thanks.

If you're a spoiled teenager from another country and you want clout for SM, but you don't care…read moreabout cinema and you think movies are boring, and you just want to sit in class all day, looking down at your phone - then this is the perfect school for you. I wasted a year of my life, I put myself in thousands of dollars in debt, and now have a big fat hole in my resume that is hurting my career. NYFA was the biggest mistake of my life. Half of the teachers are amazing and the other half don't give af. 99% of the student don't give af - and they will look down on you, if you actually do give af. And I was in a Master's program. Editing and Cinematography class were basically pre-school. Young people in their 20's running around and making animal noises. The workshops they have, will be interrupted every few minutes for "BTS, BTS, BTS!" (behind-the-scenes shots for their Instagram). Cinematography class = 16 students, 1 camera, 1 teacher on his phone the whole time. Editing class = 16 students, 1 teacher walking around checking everyone's work, while everyone else is darting across the room on rolling chairs. We shot on 35mm film and took a field trip to the Technicolor labs down the street, super cool right? Sitting in a dark room, reviewing OUR own work transferred, in a technicolor lab..... and the entire class had their phones out... in the dark lab... while their own work was being shown. This is the exact opposite of what a film school should be. I don't know what else to say, I have avoided this review for about 18 months because I felt so embarassed by even going to this bad school (which apparently is laughed at everywhere in LA) in the first place. But now my student debt is setting in and I just want to warn others; especially those who actually care and want to make films - don't go here. have a nice day, hope this helps someone out there

We do, however, have the for-profit "NYFA," a school offering the nuts and bolts of filmmaking. NYFA markets itself heavily outside of the United States, resulting in a largely international student body, mostly from Russia, South America and China as far as I can tell. Maybe they are attracted by the school's name (New York Film Academy) or by Burbank's proximity to movie studios, Hollywood and beyond. It's very expensive and classes are taught largely by part-time, adjunct faculty. There's no housing provided and student rent apartments in and around Burbank, or rent rooms in Burbanker homes. I'm not sure about the value of a NYFA "degree." Most graduates I know return to their home countries as their student visas expire and no jobs/sponsors in LA are forthcoming. In terms of practical training, the students seem to be getting that, from my experience being in their student films. Do your homework before choosing any school!

A semester here and it quickly becomes obvious that the system here is as transparent as it's glass buildings. Behind the facade, this is not a school that has much to do with the art of cinema or entertainment. More to do with the art of tuition. Nice facility. Censorship should be a required class for NYFA certainly promotes it. Example: No weapons including squirt guns are permitted to be used in any student projects. People these are adults. There are some great, creative teachers at NYFA who are forced to teach as told. I have heard NYFA In New York is very different. So please check them both out before selecting.

I was also recommended to just sign up for classes even if they weren't the right ones because it's better to be in a class while I wait on credit approval. -they make you pay for parking but don't enforce rules -campus is disgusting especially AD building and restrooms -homeless camp there and do drugs and doesn't feel safe
