From the moment you step onto the Woodbury University campus, you're met with security from Securitas--a company with a reputation for discriminatory practices and poor treatment of employees. It's surprising that a university like Woodbury would partner with such a questionable and cheap security company. This partnership reflects poorly on the university itself, making it seem as though they don't prioritize integrity or ethical standards. The fact that Woodbury university offers a business degree is full of irony as they own no sense of business whatsoever. Never in my life have I paid so much money to be treated like absolute shit. I can't make sense of all these good reviews other than them being from students that only drop in on campus for classes and then leaves, having a minimum of interaction with any other part of the school. I have been living on campus, and taking classes for a year now, and I cannot say this enough: do NOT waste your money going to this school. This year I have felt like a worthless nothing. This school is struggling financially because they are lacking in students applying, as well as the fact that they are loosing students left and right every single semester. No shit! If you decide to live on campus, be prepared to either be freezing, or living in a sauna. They don't allow students to change the temperatures of the room, so if you request for the burning hot air to stop blowing into your room in the middle of a hot summers day, don't expect anything to happen until a week or so when they finally get around to doing something about it. And you can forget about hot showers in the winter. If you request something as simple as them changing out the non-functioning clock on the wall in the tiny room they call a gym, expect no one to care, and maybe seeing it happen after nagging for a good two months or so. I had a English teacher that I was not very found of for my first semester here. The class started out with around 18 students, and when I stuck my head in to check how things were a couple of weeks before the finals, I saw 2 students in there. I, amongst a number of other people, withdrew after a couple of weeks - and from there people dropped out one after the other. The point is not even how the teacher was, the point is the fact that I went to the heads of this and that all around the school trying to make them aware of what was happening. I couldn't care less to be honest, I had already withdrawn from the class. However, I wanted to give the school a chance to do something about it. Long story short, nothing was done, and I ended up having a meeting with some guy in leadership asking me a bunch of questions about Norway (where I am from) - completely uninterested in the issue of the teacher. I could tell you a hundred more stories like this. I could tell you about all the times I've gone to the admissions office and either been yelled at, ridiculed in front of everyone there, or just all together been treated like a piece of nothing. I could tell you about when the boss of the cafeteria on campus showed me excellent examples of the worst possible customer treatment/service. The main point is that this is a school that will be angels to you as you are considering applying, and the minute you are in, you are treated like shit. This school doesn't even know the main principle of business: it is cheaper to keep your customers than to try to get new ones. Campus is a sad example of a ghost town half of the time. There are desperate attempts for "fun events", however the school offers no college life like you imagined - whatsoever! If you are an international students, prepare to be left on campus with no cafeteria open, and no car to get anywhere, during most of the holidays. They "pride themselves" on the international focus, however takes no care of them as soon as they are in. The phrase said to me more than anything else is following: "Well, there is nothing that I can do about that" This school has the attitude that reminds me of places like the DMV. "I don't care, and I'm not gonna try to help you." read more

I started out my undergrad experience at NYU, in lecture halls jam-packed with 500 other clueless freshmen. When my student advisor referred to me as "1320" I knew it was time to move on. After a year of meaningful meandering, I ended up in Los Angeles. I knew two things: I wanted to go back to school and I wanted it to be small. I found Woodbury. I'm a self-proclaimed nerd and learning junkie. So, when I say that Woodbury has amazing teachers and above-par accredited academics, you'd better believe it's true. (Mom got a lot for her money!) I ended up with a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing and went on to get my master's at USC. What I took away from Woodbury, though, was certainly more than just a degree. read more

I am in my last semester of my senior year and will probably stay an extra year for my MBA. This has been a really great school for me. I am a business management major with a concentration in entrepreneurship and while the school claims to be a business school architecture and fashion design are really more at its heart. Beautiful campus, in the process of a major remodel. For all you foodies Woody's has surprisingly good food at cheap prices. I have had classes that have only had 5 students and trust me that is when real learning gets done. The professor are very knowledgeable in their fields. I have had many great crushes, I mean educators, at Woodbury. Just to clarify it's not Wood-berry. However, this can be a difficult school to make friends in because it is mostly a commuter school with some very strong cliques. However, I lived on campus my freshman year and made some friendships that will last a lifetime. The library is on a list of the most haunted places in SoCal, so be sure to check it out at night. While the school has no religious affiliation (Thank God, I mean...) the library is an old church and bookshelves line where the pews should be. Careful about studying on the second story because everything echoes, as that used to be for the choir. Overall, a great school! My idol Helen Gurly Brown, author of Sex and the Single Girl and former editor of Cosmo, is an alumna. The parking lot is filled with Mercedes' and the President wears his suspenders as religiously as Larry King, what more do you want? read more

After 3 1/2 years here, I do not even know where to begin. I really loved being a fashion design student here. I've made amazing friends, taken amazing classes, and had amazing design teachers and mentors. At Woodbury, I was able to expand my horizons farther then i thought possible. I am really happy I choose to come here.My first choice was FIDM but when I visited the school I came across a lot of snobby stuck up students. I was not greeted well and right away I sensed competition. At Woodbury, I got the complete opposite greeting! I was welcomed so nicely by Kathryn Hagen and other staff members. The work load and procrastination levels are very high but there is so much inspiration and motivation that you really have fun with every single project! It is a small school and you will meet many people who you become very close friends with and you get one on one time with the teachers.They have very good job connections and help you find a job. I loved it. I couldn't imagine going anywhere else for my major. I learned a lot here and I am proud to say I graduated here. I will miss Woodbury! But the great thing is the instructors still keep in touch with you and they really CARE. read more

I am a third year fashion design student at Woodbury University right now. Since my senior year at high school it had been my dream to get accepted to Woodbury because I had only heard the best reviews about it and especially the fashion program. I cannot describe my happiness when did get my acceptance letter. The most important thing is that I was not disappointed after I started attending Woodbury. I could not possibly imagine a better school to teach me everything and anything about fashion design. The amazing faculty is always eager ti help students out with anything possible. Every instructor in our department has an incredible background. As I mentioned it is my third year here and looking back at the work that I used to do when I was a first year student I realize that I have come a long way. The Chair of our Department Kathryn Hagen is an incredibly talented person whose book Fashion Illustration for Designers has become a bible for us. I learn new things every day and I know I will till my last day at Woodbury. In addition to this the campus is simply beautiful. Sometimes I stay at school long after my classes are over to do my homework there because the environment is just perfect. Woodbury is a growing school and I am more than sure that in a few years it will be more famous than a lot of fashion schools because we work with amazing designer/instructors and mentors. They never hesitate to share their experiences with us. We get to know the industry better and be prepared for the big world. And it is not just fashion design department that is great at Woodbury. My experience in here was amazing! I was able to complete the 4 years Undergrad Business Management major in only 2.5 years with the convenient schedule that Woodbury School of Business offers. I had day and night classes and also summer classes, was working on campus, and was involved in CEO organization, and still had time to socialize and have fun, and make memories with my friends that I met at Woodbury. I like how I had 7 week courses(once a week, 4 hours), which allowed me to take more courses throughout the semester and get ahead of the program. I got to know so many good people(my friends, professors, staff, and other community people) that always supported, mentored and inspired me in so many ways. I dont know where I would be if I did not meet them. So glad I chose Woodbury, because I felt like I was part of a family that is always here to help me and support my ideas. I know I can go back to them with any questions if needed and that is the student/staff connection on campus. Throughout my time here, I liked all my classes and professors because they were not teaching just from business books, but actually they taught us based on real life business scenarios that either they experienced/or are experiencing or they can refer to. My professors were very successful business owners, who Consulted Fortune companies, have private jets and it was great to be in a class and learning business strategies from them. Also, professors make themselves always available to meet with us and also keep personal contact so they know we can ask them any questions anytime. I was not a transfer and I took all the required courses, and from all the courses, there was only one business law class that I did not think it was helpful because of the professor, but there are other friends of mine that liked that professors class. There are just too many good things, like the scholarships more than $18K I received every year, and other scholarships opportunities that Woodbury always sent out to students and I applies and received from VICA, WISE, Ebell of Los Angeles and others. While I was a full time student, Woodbury gave me an opportunity to work on campus as a Work-study student. Also, I was part of an organization called CEO(Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization) where we did so many events on campus and also conducted Business Plan Competition with a $3000K for the first place winner. The food at Woody's Cafeteria I did not like during my first year, but then the Chef changed and since then I like going there even now. Also, there are so many good places very close to Woodbury in Burbank to go out order. With my friends we always went out to Downtown Burbank on San Fernando for meetings or just for fun! Also, we are a very diverse family in here, which made my experience here even more fun to learn about other cultures and also travel with my friends who were from all around the world. Attending Woodbury for the past two years has been nothing short of a great experience! I have felt welcomed from the very first semester and have developed professional relationships throughout my time there. Not only was the location of this university convenient for me, but the small class sizes contributed greatly to the learning experience as well. I cannot begin to describe how much I have learned from the individuals that I was honored to meet throughout my two years. As an Accounting student, I had many opportunities to build up my resume whether it was joining the Accounting Society, or other professional organizations located on campus. Being immersed in variety of activities at Woodbury expanded my leadership, management, and communication skills. If I was given the choice to go back to community college and choose where to apply/go for a four-year university, I would choose Woodbury again without a doubt! read more

As a transfer student, I didnt know what to expect from a school this small. After two years Im really understanding the benefits of the size of Woodbury. I have gotten some amazing personal attention from the professors in my last two years and they really put the effort into your education. You can contact any of them by email and get a response in a matter of hours and some even provide their cell phone number. It just shows that they are really invested it every one of us. As for classes, on average you will have about 20-30 in each class which to me is great. As competitive as we are, we are very supportive of each other and strive on keeping our level of expectations high. Between general classes and studio we have a great sense of family which makes it all a great experience. My biggest concern with going to Woodbury was that it wasn't the prestigious name like UCLA or USC so I thought it might hurt me when I looked for a job. Come to find out many firms and studios have alumni working there currently. Overall, I am happy with the money that I am spending and would suggest this place anyone. read more

I was thinking of taking a class here. I have an MBA so, not looking for full admission (just an update on some advancements in one area). I live in the Valley and thought I could drop in on a night class for convenience. I saw a book that was only at Woodbury Library so, I decided to consult with admissions and peruse a book at the library. I was told I could look at the book by simply explaining my need to the librarian. I was a visitor and not some random. The librarian a very 'basic' middle aged woman with glasses greets me with a condescending tone and tells me the library is closed to the public. I did not get to explain that I was told when visiting that I could walk around the campus and check things out as a perspective student. Additionally, the tone was extremely condescending. She offers to find the book I wanted to view at a public library online. Gee, I guess she wasn't analytical to have figured out I already did that because I specifically said it was a book in the holdings only they had locally. This experience was extremely off putting. I would have dropped a small donation but the woman was unreasonable and snarky so, I did not argue and told her she was rude and unreasonable then I left. I get rules but you would think I brought my lap top and was planning a stay. Sometimes you give to get on (as the adage goes). You clearly cannot evaluate an entire school after a few unprofessional people but the library should have the most accommodating people. I say this because the duties of the librarian in 2019 are not the same as one from, say, 2005. Google and other search engines do all the work they used to perform. Really, this position is going by way of checkers via self check stands and robots. She and others like her should do everything to make every interaction meaningful. Now, you can get a work study student to do the check ins' (if the school is not automated) and new book bar coding etc.. All that said (and known), she could have taken my ID and allowed me to view the book. Even offer to bring the book out from the stacks and in direct view in front of her if she was worried about any damage to the book. Every freakin' library I have ever been (Art Center Pasadena, Sci Arc (my friend goes there and is much higher in ranking than this place), FIDM (friends went there),Columbia (NYC) when a visiting as a guest lecturer, etc.. allow non-students to use facilities with an id check (you just cannot check out materials...obviously). The place was non-impressive. The faculty I saw walking was frumpy and students looked more geared for Community College (not that it is bad but not to the level they charge for classes). I personally do not need a large college now that I am past the 'college years' however, this would not be a choice. I went on a normal school day early afternoon and counted 8 students. Needless to say, the drive down to UCLA (one of my alma matters') is worth it (even if it is out of the way) when compared to this place and for comparable $$. read more

Unfortunately, my experience with the admissions process, office and counselor have deterred me from experiencing Woodbury firsthand in person at all. Let me start from the beginning. I submitted my application to Woodbury in early September (the first week in fact), along with my SAT scores and official HS transcript the next day. I knew the admissions process usually took three weeks or so, sometimes longer, so I had no problem waiting for that. September came and went, and halfway through October, I still had not hear anything from Woodbury. Finally near the end of October, I received a notice in the mail telling me that Woodbury has not yet gotten my SAT scores. Very strange, as I sent my scores through Collegeboard.org to the school. So I called the number listed on the notice from Woodbury. The person that answered the phone seemed very confused as to why I was calling this particular number (even though it was listed on the notice FROM Woodbury). He was lost, had me on hold for nearly ten minutes, and then finally came back to the phone and reassured me that "they received my scores and everything should be fine". Music to my ears, okay, so I hung up feeling confident that everything would be fine. Three weeks passed, it was well into November, and I once again had not heard anything from Woodbury. My friend at that point had also applied to the school, and was going through much the same hassle as I was. I called the school once more, and was told that they would put my application at the top of the stack to be reviewed. Okay, cool. So I went back to waiting. November passed, and by this time, I was giving up on this school. I'd been accepted elsewhere and was ready to just enroll already! December came. Finally, I received a call from the school -- only this time, it was from the admissions counselor. I missed the call, and got an email from them at nearly the same time, letting me know that "we have just received your transcripts, but we have yet to get your SAT scores". I was furious. Not five minutes later, I emailed the admissions counselor back, letting them know the hassle I have gone through with applying, when I sent in my SAT scores and transcripts, how many times I've called, etc. I asked them to please check again if they had my SAT scores, as I had been told that they did, and to let me know what the status of my application was at that point. It is over two weeks later that I emailed the counselor, and I've heard nothing back. My friend just got an Acceptance Letter from Woodbury two days ago; WELL after the cut-off date for Spring enrollment (which is what she applied for). If she even wanted to register now, she'd have to pay a late registration fee! I'm not sure what to make of this. I know that the school goes on holiday, just as any other -- but I responded to the email from the admissions counselor not FIVE MINUTES after I got it, two weeks ago. I know Woodbury is a good school; I've heard so much good feedback about it. That is why I wanted to attend there. But after this, I'm really not sure what to make of it. Could it be that my application was just pushed too far back and they were extremely busy? Did my SAT scores somehow not go through (even though I paid for them to be sent through collegeboard)?? I don't know. What I do know is that I will not be attending Woodbury at any point. I hope future applicants have much better luck than I have!! read more

This is an expensive private school with new programs. You aren't getting value. You will learn, but you are kind of on your own. The teachers don't have teachers aids and they will answer your e-mails, questions, and see you in their office. However, your classmates probably won't help you and you will be lucky to find a tutor. The career center is kind of useless. The real value in bigger universities is the large network. You simply don't have that here which is a real a disadvantage. The foreign students really don't help. They usually go back home. Its an expensive school without the powerful network that larger universities offer. For the price tag, its a real let down. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I'm currently in my 3rd semester at Woodbury as a fashion major. I have never seen a school as disorganized and unprofessional as this. I never recieve any emails telling me about any schedual changes or any important things going on in my major (but I recieve them for everybother major at the school). The head of my department decided it would be a great idea to change our advisors halfway through the semester and not tell any of the students. When I made an appointment with my new advisor to make my schedule for next semester she decided five minutes before said appointment that she didn't feel like showing up and didn't bother calling me to tell me until half an hour into the appointment time and when she reschedualed me she only penciled me in for 15 minutes instead of the manditory hour. The teachers, for the most part, don't care about the students and will actually go out of their way to make you cry in class. One specific teacher would go out of her way to pick on any student who has any sort of special needs and tries to make their life a living hell and never bothered teaching anything that was on the sylibus. When the entire class complained to the head of the department about that teacher they didn't do anything about it until a week before studio finals when it's already too late to teach us anything simply because they didn't want to fill out the paperwork. What they teach also has very little basis in the industry and their main concern is the fashion show every spring. Studio finals start on Monday (December 1st, 2014) and we still have not been told when each class will have their final presentations. If you value your time and money, invest both somewhere else. I don't know where all of these good reviews are coming from but obviously these people went to a completely different school than I did. Next semster is most likely going to be my last at Woodbury because I can no longer handle being in an environment that is this unprofessional and disorganized. Edit: About a week after I originally posted my review I was approached by the head of my department and nearly threatened with some form of disciplinary action if I didn't change my review. I nodded along and then immediately forgot that I had said I would because I refuse to let someone try to silence my voice and refuse to even consider listening to my (extremely valid) complaints. After two and a half years at this school I've decided to drop out and transfer to another school. The disorganization got even worse when they fired not only half the teachers in the fashion department, some after the semester already started, (and all but two costume teachers) and fired the head of the department in the middle of the semester. Because of this most of the classes were far behind and had no clear direction. One of my 10 week classes didn't even have a teacher until about 5 weeks into it because the original teacher got fired the day we were supposed to have our first class which I still showed up to because poor communication meant I was never told class was canceled until further notice. Also, my philosophy teacher (who I could rant about until the cows come home) never bothered showing up the day of the final and when I went to the head of his department to complain they tried calling him both in his office and on his cell phone and couldn't reach him either way (because he apparently didn't have his voicemail set up on his phone) but they knew that he was on campus that day because he had just given a presentation half an hour before the time class was supposed to start. I can't wait to finish up the project I'm working on for an incomplete grade (which is a whole other can of worms that I won't get started on or else we'll be here all day) so I can finally be done with this nightmare of a school. read more

I loved my time at Woodbury. I was 28 when I enrolled as a transfer student from a big school where I was just another student. I found that at Woodbury I mattered and people knew me by name. I thought my time to have a college experience had passed since I was as old as I was but I decided to dorm anyway. It was the best decision I ever made. Living on campus facilitated for me to do very well academically. I made amazing life long friendships too. Yes...I felt lonely at times, I worked my booty off, I didn't party or socialize as much since I worked two jobs but in the end it was the most amazing time. I earned my degree in every extent of the word. The classes where challenging and that taught me to do my very best always. Awesome academic counselors and staff and most importantly quality instructors. read more

Woodbury can be titled to many people as a University, but I call it home. Four years ago, I took my first steps into a school that I knew from the very beginning was going to be a new adventure, and it surely lived up to its expectations. Studying Graphic Design, I learned an incredible amount that I can now utilize in my future. Woodbury University helped me get my very first Graphic Design job. This truly is a wonderful University. I went to this school for a bit about 6 years ago. Do not live on campus unless you have a car. It is a complete ghost town with very little campus life. The culture here is very Armenian so when you are not, it can be a little weird. The school charges huge amounts of money but does not offer much in return. I transferred to a state school and had a much better experience. I became sick and they retroactively sent my financial aid back to the government BUT then said i owed them 6 grand for student housing. If i could afford that I wouldn't have received aid in the first place. The business office is to this day still rude and unprofessional. They have broken my fferpa rights and released private information to people without my consent over the phone. I would sue them if the statute was not past. This school comes off as more of a business than a non profit education system. Unless you are in Architecture do not go here. This school is boiling hot most of the year and the staff stick with each other instead of opening up to different ideas. Absolutely avoid this school... it was a bad experience. When i transferred to a state school I was so much happier and am so happy I did. There is just no benefit to going to a tiny school except paying over 15 grand a semester for tuition. I repeat... DO NOT GO HERE. You will regret it and you will realize how this place only focuses on the income they make. read more

They have low requirements for full time MBA, which is about 350-400 GMAT score with a 3.0 gpa or even lower. However the campus is really nice, it is very green and friendly there. The only part of the university I did not really like is library. It is super small and it seems like people can talk there, which is very disturbing read more

This school is VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNORGANIZED. Believe me, you will pay more than what you get for your education. The office workers are the worst and will overcharge you for things you didn't do. Some professors are okay but a majority aren't and will give you "busy work". Chances are, you won't learn much. Majors are very messy, campus is very boring, and you have to take classes that are useless such as PPDV and a library course. I wouldn't recommend this school. The only good thing Woodbury has is its food, and even that isn't the best. read more

Honestly what a great University in so many ways. I am currently in Woodbury's MBA program. Classrooms are small, so you basically know and meet everyone. Also, because of the class sizes the teachers are able to give each student personal time to explain and answer all questions fully. From the moment I stepped foot onto this campus I was guided and helped with every single step. They helped me enroll, sign up for classes and even made me aware of grant and scholarship opportunities and I got it. I did not get this level of service at USC or UCLA where I was also accepted but I clearly did not chose to go to. The campus and classrooms at these UC's are in the hundreds and teachers never have the time to really explain anything to you. Don't even get me started on their parking and traffic situations and high costs when going to another school like USC or UCLA. At those other schools I just felt like a number and not a student. At Woodbury I developed a close relationship with almost ALL my classmates and professors who have degrees from schools such as Harvard and Stanford, not to mention many other highly known educational institutions. My teachers have all been very informative, inspiring, helpful and kind and I really would not say this if I did not mean it. Woodbury Univ is a breath of fresh air among the plethora of schools that are located in So Cal. Its exactly the type of school you need if you're trying to learn something and receive a quality education unlike the crappy and shi**y state schools who often are riddled with such tedious policies and procedures that they end up tainting you for life. Point in case: CSUN, Calif State Univ Northridge, too crowded, no parking, and mass processing of students. I was really disappointed with the whole state school experience. Until I came to Woodbury, I didn't think I was capable of graduate coursework. However, once you take a class here you realize that the professors are actually from UC schools, private schools and have years and I mean years of experience. They're top caliber and don't let the "small school" title fool you. The courses are tough and you're really getting a lot for your money. The classes are small and the majority of the students are really involved- and cool people. I kinda feel bad for even writing this review because I really don't want this school to get crowded. So, unless you're serious- please don't register here and BTW...it is pricey but you knew that, it's a private school- that's the point. read more

This school is one of the most unorganized Ive ever been too. When I first tried to get in to talk to someone about it..they first sent me to this stupid open house and didnt tell me I had to be there at a certain time so I showed up later cause I thought it was an open house thing where you can just come when you want...well it wasnt and I missed the whole thing except the free lunch. Then I tried to meet with an admissions adviser and they schedualed me with the wrong one. Then when I finally got to meet with someone it was the wrong one again because the other one wasnt there...so I met with the Architecture one instead of the Fashion Design one. Then when I left and would go ahead and try and call the advisor to ask them things...they would both NEEEEEVVVEEERRR get back to me. Not even a month or two months after I leave them voicemails..they just wont get back to you. I literally had to star 69 it so they would answer the phone. Finally I learned that the trick is to leave a message with the receptionist to tell them to call me because voicemails were pointless. I mean this is your job this is a school shouldn't it be your job to call people back...this is a school and I know how much tution is...so they should care to call you back but they dont. And Ive talked to several people that have the same problem...they said theyll come in and they'll be there just having lunch and still not get back to them. They told me that I could take a class at a community college over the summer that would transpher and I was trying to get the class name and had called several times to get ahold of someone and no one called me back for over a month I then had to aggressivly get someone to give me the class name and by then it was too late to get into the class. I mean this is a problem. They dont care. Then I found out about 2 days before the last orientation for the fall semester ( I was thinking of not going in Fall but in Spring) that I actually had to register in Fall because they dont offer alot of classes in Spring..so I was scrambling to register last minute. I mean isnt it the responsibility of the Adviser to inform us of this...(I found out from someone else). Then the advisor told me a certain amount that I was going to be paying for Fall...but when I actually registered and was enrolled that amount was then double the amount that they had originally given me. And what I found out was that they had actually made a financial aid mistake and forgot to put in a Grant that they had originally added in. I mean really..this unorganized and decieving...? Really?
