Then we were told our table was already available... only to be seated at a dining table in the bar, off to the side, where apparently servers do not exist while staring at the back of the pianist and the barflies. The two bartenders were fantastic--especially Brian, who was working at warp speed--but they already had a packed bar to manage. Adding dining tables to their workload was clearly not realistic. Why were we seated there? Still a mystery. Reservation problems: I booked through the QR code advertised in The Gem for the August prix fixe dinners at La Quinta Resort's restaurants. When we arrived, we were told the prix fixe menu wasn't available that day. Sorry! So we ordered bread and oysters instead. About 15-20 minutes later, the manager came over and said they would honor the prix fixe after all. Great! Except... we'd already ordered appetizers. ‍ And wow, was it SLOW. We were seated at 5:30 and still didn't have our entrées at 7:00. Drinks regularly sat empty, and once the restaurant got busy around 6:30, water refills disappeared completely. Did I mention it was 110 degrees outside? The food? A mixed bag--but overall, wildly overpriced and underwhelming. * Oysters: Ice-cold and served with a good mignonette. Also pricey. * Bread: Fresh and warm, but the olive tapenade was aggressively salty. Again, overpriced. * Watermelon salad: The winner! Refreshing, flavorful, and the spicy nuts gave it a nice kick. My daughter and I stood at the entrance for several minutes without being greeted. During that time, the manager was visibly overwhelmed and speaking harshly to the young hostesses, who appeared uncomfortable and trying to maintain composure. Despite this, no one acknowledged us until I offered a friendly "Happy Cinco de Mayo," at which point a hostess kindly stepped in to seat us. Unfortunately, the situation escalated. Twice, as we were being seated, the manager abruptly intervened -- placing reserved signs down and yelling at the hostess, myself and daughter we could not sit there. His tone was harsh, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational. This happened two times at two different tables that we were escorted to by the hostess and in front of my young daughter. Needless to say it was both uncomfortable and humiliating. I have never experienced a restaurant manager behave with this level of disrespect toward a guest, especially a woman with her child. I felt embarrassed and heartbroken that my daughter had to witness this. When I calmly approached him to understand the situation, he responded by stating they had "400 reservations," followed by dismissive and aggressive body language that made it clear we were not welcome. The interaction ended with us leaving and both tears. My daughter said "I'm scared mommy, why was that man so mean". A guest from the restaurant who was dinning and witnessed the incident came out just to see if we were ok. Equally concerning was how he treated his own staff, especially female staff setting a negative and unprofessional tone throughout the front of house. As someone from a fourth-generation family in the restaurant industry, I find this especially disheartening. I would be deeply concerned if any manager in our organization treated a guest or employees this way. I understand holidays are demanding, but being busy does not excuse a lack of basic respect and professionalism. I am sharing this in hopes that upper management addresses this directly. No woman / person and her child should have to experience this kind of treatment.

Our experience began with something as simple as requesting a drink menu. Despite asking several times, no one provided us with one. We waited patiently, expecting that someone would eventually attend to our request. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Eventually, my wife became so frustrated that she physically got up from our table, walked over to an individual we later confirmed was the restaurant manager, Jasper Jarvis, and personally requested a drink menu. Only then did we finally receive one. It is astonishing that customers dining at a restaurant of this caliber must repeatedly request something as basic as a drink menu and ultimately leave their table to obtain one from management. Unfortunately, this was only the beginning. The most unacceptable part of our experience occurred when our meals were served. My son and I received our food, but my wife's meal was nowhere to be found. We waited, expecting her food to arrive shortly. It did not. My son and I eventually finished our entire meals, and my wife's food still had not arrived. Approximately ten minutes after we had finished eating, her meal was finally brought to the table. Think about that for a moment. Three family members go out to enjoy Sunday lunch together, yet two finish their meals before the third person even receives hers. My wife was left eating alone while my son and I sat watching her. The entire purpose of dining out as a family is to enjoy a meal together. That opportunity was completely ruined by the restaurant's inability to coordinate something as fundamental as serving three meals within a reasonable time of one another. What made this experience considerably worse was our interaction with the restaurant manager, Jasper Jarvis. When we brought these concerns to his attention, we expected some degree of professionalism, accountability, or at least a sincere acknowledgment that the service had fallen well below reasonable expectations. Instead, we encountered an attitude that left us feeling our concerns were an inconvenience. Mr. Jarvis attributed the delayed meal to the kitchen staff. Regarding our difficulty obtaining a drink menu, his response was essentially that he had provided one when my wife approached him. That response completely missed the point. A customer should not have to get up, search for a manager, and personally request something that the service staff should have provided in the first place. More troubling was the overall impression Mr. Jarvis gave us during the conversation. Rather than demonstrating genuine concern or taking responsibility for the dining experience, he appeared dismissive and spoke in a manner that made us feel we were wasting his time. As customers, we were not looking for special treatment, complimentary meals, or anything unreasonable. We simply expected competent service, basic courtesy, and a manager willing to acknowledge legitimate concerns. This was not an isolated experience for our family. My wife had previously visited this restaurant, and according to her, that experience was similarly disappointing. On both occasions, she observed what appeared to be employees and management congregating among themselves rather than remaining attentive to customers and their needs. It gives the impression of an establishment where customer service is not being adequately supervised or prioritized. I do, however, want to acknowledge one employee who deserves recognition. Throughout our visit, one individual continued coming by our table approximately every ten minutes to refill our water. I could see that he appeared aware something was wrong, and although he may not have been in a position to resolve the larger service problems, he made a noticeable effort to provide us with some level of attentive service. His efforts did not go unnoticed, and I appreciate them. Unfortunately, one conscientious employee cannot compensate for a broader failure in service and management. My greatest disappointment is with the management. Restaurants can experience delays. Kitchens can make mistakes. Orders can be overlooked. These things happen, and most reasonable customers understand that. What distinguishes a well-managed restaurant from a poorly managed one is how management responds when those mistakes occur. A professional manager acknowledges the problem, accepts responsibility for the customer's experience, and makes a genuine effort to resolve the situation. That is not what we experienced.
