Hilliards Candy is that South Shore stalwart that you may have forgotten until you really need it!…read moreIt's been in the area for, well, forever! and for my family at least, it's been bringing sweet treats for about 40 years. A few years ago the store moved from the cramped space in Norwell at Assinippi Corners to a fresh, larger building right at Queen Anne Corner on Rt. 53, across from Alfredo Aiello. It manages to have to same cozy feeling as the old store when you walk in and are surrounded by whatever seasonal chocolates are displayed, plus the cases full of chocolates, truffles, jelly beans, foil-wrapped chocolates - everything! It's a given that the big holidays - Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day - have everything and everything you could want to make a sweet tooth happy. I've spent many visits to Hilliards picking up waaaay too much candy for big holidays as well as the smaller ones (St. Patrick's Day, Fourth of July, Halloween) because "I need to bring candy to work!" More like, "I need to bring candy home!" Displays are fresh and full, the prices won't make you blink- think delicious without breaking the bank - and the staff is low key helpful rather than hard sell. I especially like that since I like to roam around, walking the hardwood floor, shopping the one-for method: one for you, one for me. One for you, one for . . . well you get it! Lots of parking in the back of the building, so look past the teeny 3-space area in front and just follow the arrows to the back door-and sometimes there're samples!

This past weekend, we ordered a fruit arrangement as a special gift for a colleague. Unfortunately,…read morethe experience was extremely disappointing. The fruit arrived in unacceptable condition and was practically inedible. It appeared to have been previously frozen and thawed, leaving it soggy and watery. Additionally, the packaging and overall presentation did not reflect the quality advertised online or justify the price paid. When we contacted customer service to request a replacement, an employee named Janett was extremely rude and unprofessional. She raised her voice, repeatedly insisted that the fruit was fresh, and provided an incorrect email address for submitting a formal complaint. While product issues can occasionally occur, the lack of professionalism and willingness to resolve the situation was unacceptable. When purchasing a gift for someone special, customers deserve quality products and respectful customer service. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this business to anyone looking to send a thoughtful gift for a special occasion.

I enjoy Dairy Queen in general on a hot day because ice cream is always refreshing. I don't…read morenecessarily think that Dairy Queen overall has the best ice cream when compared to ice cream from other ice cream parlors. Examples are Hornstra Farms in Norwell, Peaceful Meadows (now Hornstra), Bella's in Weymouth and more. However, this does not keep me from visiting this establishment! The ice cream at Dairy Queen is still good. We like this Dairy Queen because it's close to where we live and the fact is that when it opens, it's signifies the start of all the welcome warm weather. This is especially important when we've had a rough, cold, dreary, snowy winter season therefore the opening of Dairy Queen for the season is a right of passage in our household. One of my favorite treats at Dairy Queen is the peanut butter parfait, which has vanilla soft serve topped with hot fudge, whipped cream and crunchy peanuts. I always add the liquid peanut butter to it as well. One cannot have too much peanut butter after all! Also quite delicious are the root beer floats. My daughter and I like to sneak away and pick up some of these root beer floats. Obviously we don't have to sneak lol
