A few years ago the store moved from the cramped space in Norwell at Assinippi Corners to a fresh, larger building right at Queen Anne Corner on Rt. 53, across from Alfredo Aiello. It manages to have to same cozy feeling as the old store when you walk in and are surrounded by whatever seasonal chocolates are displayed, plus the cases full of chocolates, truffles, jelly beans, foil-wrapped chocolates - everything! It's a given that the big holidays - Christmas, Valentine's Day, Mother's Day - have everything and everything you could want to make a sweet tooth happy. I've spent many visits to Hilliards picking up waaaay too much candy for big holidays as well as the smaller ones (St. Patrick's Day, Fourth of July, Halloween) because "I need to bring candy to work!" More like, "I need to bring candy home!" Displays are fresh and full, the prices won't make you blink- think delicious without breaking the bank - and the staff is low key helpful rather than hard sell. I especially like that since I like to roam around, walking the hardwood floor, shopping the one-for method: one for you, one for me. One for you, one for . . . well you get it! Lots of parking in the back of the building, so look past the teeny 3-space area in front and just follow the arrows to the back door-and sometimes there're samples!

I was there during the early evening hours and there were a few customers in the store but it was not overly busy. There is an excellent assortment of candy there. Candy bars including some hard to find candy bars. Also a variety of candies that you can either buy by the pound or buy some of the pre-filled boxes of the same candies. I got a couple of Zero Bars and I made up a small bag of Mary Jane candies for myself. The cashiers at the checkout area were friendly and professional. I will definitely shop there again.

A friend of ours in Baltimore who is a chocolate fanatic said these were the best chocolates she has ever had. I agree as do my grandsons. We love coming in to get chocolates and ice cream. The pistachio is devine! I have always found the service to be excellent. I did not know I could pay for the chocolates at the ice cream register but was told by the associate that either register (chocolate or ice cream) can accept payment for anything in the shop. A beautiful shop with exquisite candy. I was asked how I like the new layout and expanded parking a few years ago and I let them know it really enhanced the flow for customers. Best candy shop ever.

Last week I had just finished having lunch in the food court and I was in the mood for something sweet. The food court doesn't have much in the way of desserts so I figured some candy would do just fine and I stopped into It'Sugar to see what they had to offer for sweets. I saw a large amount of candy bins that they sell candies out of in bulk. They have everything there from gummy candies and jelly beans to chocolate covered nuts and much more. They have plenty of plastic bags around the candy bins for customers to put their choices into. I went with a small bag of chocolate covered almonds and I also made a small bag of jelly beans that I decided to buy for someone else. I noticed they also sell various hard to find candy bars as well as candy from other countries. The store was neat and clean. The employee at the register was friendly and very efficient. I will definitely be stopping by here again.

One of my colleagues surprised me with a box of the sea salt caramels recently and I wrote him an email that read like this: "Mother of God. These chocolates are amazing. Thank you so much...I want to hate you for introducing me to these, but they are so good, I can't." That pretty much sums it up. I don't even want to try anything else because I'm not sure that it can get any better than those sea salt caramels. Puopolo Candies is one such shop where the delicious assortment of chocolates and candies are almost all made on site and are made by hand. To shop here means you are dealing directly with the owners and candy makers. This is not at all like purchasing a box of chocolates from a corporation such as the one that owns Godiva...ugh. These are made from all natural flavorings and ingredients and no preservatives. You can get all the choices in either milk or dark chocolate. If you're in a rush you can pick up a pre-made up box but I think it's infinitely more fun to make up your own assortment. It's the grown-up version of going to the corner candy store and picking out your bag of penny candy choices. I'm not sure I can pick just one favorite here because I love just about everything but the chocolate bark with cranberries and pistachios comes to mind as does the buttercrunch. When I'm here, I'm pleasantly reminded of the service in local village shops in Italy where even the smallest purchase is often given great care by being wrapped nicely in pretty paper. Similarly, at Puopolo the staff will box and wrap and ribbon whatever it is you're buying. The result is that you feel great walking out of here with your delicious and pretty chocolate treasures whether it's for you or for a gift. You can have special orders made up too so just tell them what you're thinking about doing with chocolate and they'll help you execute your desire. I love this shop and the people who work here. Making chocolates by hand is an art and Puopolo does it beautifully and tastefully.

There is a glass case where you can buy single chocolates and there are also some very nice looking boxed candies on display on the other side of the store. I had never tried anything from this store before so I just bought a single chocolate just to get a feel for their candies. I also got to try a piece of their chocolate bark that they were sampling on the day I visited the store. The chocolate here is rather pricey but their products are so delicious that it is well worth it. The staff at the counter was very nice and they were a pleasure to deal with.
