Avoid this place. As soon as you move in the rent increases begin. And they will always charge your card a week before it's due so you can't move out without getting that final payment. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT go to this establishment. Everything seemed wonderful at first. It was very easy to rent our unit and the front desk seemed kind and helpful. However that all changed when we went to move out. When I closed one of our units (we had two at the time), they canceled our access code completely. We had no way of getting into the unit we still had and had already paid for. It took me going into the office three times for them to correct this. They have a strict no return policy, so if you pay anything you will not get that money back no matter what. I was moving out of state and in July paid two months in advance (August and September - almost $300). My boyfriend and I decided that evening that we would be moving a month sooner. I went back in the very next day to ask that we get the September payment reimbursed since we would already have all of our stuff moved out mid August. They kept telling me that they would look into it and call me back. I called numerous times with absolutely no answer and no return phone call. We changed all of our moving plans, costing us hundreds more. In September I went in, emptied our unit, and closed our account. We never did receive any money back and now I'm receiving emails that our account is past due. Once again I've called and called, no answer. I'm now waiting for the district manager to call me back. I have never had such horrible customer service in my life. read more

I waited to the last minute to reserve a space at a storage facility. I called another facility prior to this one, and they could not help me over the phone. When I called this storage facility, A woman named Cynthia was more than willing to help me out with a last minute locker. She emailed me the forms, I signed them and sent them back to her. This was all done on a Saturday afternoon, because they would be closed like all others on a Sunday The other facility was not willing to take the time to do this, so I am giving four stars for her service. As far as the facility, my locker was clean and ready for me to put my stuff in. So far a very happy customer. read more

I went to get my travel trailer from this facility to discover my batterie was stolen. The security cameras on site are a complete joke. The property manager has no access to review the camera activity. The review has to come from a corporate manager because they are the only one who are authorized and have the remote mouse to do so. My trailer is on site and has a camera direct right at it the main camera servailance sits above the property manager or the front desk personnel who are capable of monitoring the out side activity. What a joke. The main servailance in the office covers 5. Cameras at best out of the twenty cameras. The facility house homeless people because they said the homeless was the ones who were causing all the theft, yes that's right all the theft on the premises. There is no security after dark and closing of the gates. The security that is in place during buisness hours is another big joke. The property manager who has been in place for a week at best was very condensending patronized and basically blowing me off and suggested I file a claim with my insurance and a police report. I suggested we start with a police report and the footage of the video, she said it would be great while before the footage would be available for the police. I do not recommend this place at all the security sucks the property manager is there for the free rent and nothing more. The girls were very helpful in getting me situated, the price for the U Haul was less expensive than I had anticipated and after hours drop made the whole thing a breeze. !!!SERIOUS CAUTION!!! I have had a unit at iStorage in Santa Maria for almost 18 mos. I was recently informed by the staff that my unit had been broken into and there "might be some damage to your unit". When I arrived days later to inspect my storage space, I was shocked and disgusted to see that it had been ransacked and anything of any monetary value had been stolen, and most of the rest had been damaged. I was offered a new unit and some new boxes and the use of the moving truck for 1 day from the staff as compensation. While moving and cleaning my unit, I spoke with many people who live out of their units (which is against the law) who claim to know exactly who it was who stole my belongings, complete with nicknames and phone numbers. The staff at iStorage seem either oblivious or are complicit with the amount of residents they have living there. I found some of my personal belongings distributed through out the inhabitants of iStorage. It seems like a community of people who look the other way while crimes are committed as long as there is some profit for them. iStorage shows gross negligence in how they operate this particular location. The people who broke in and stole from me and my family, used my storage unit as a bathroom, urinating and defecating on my family's belongings like animals, after they took what they wanted. If anyone else has had a similar problem at iStorage in Santa Maria, please contact me in the comments section of this review. I am interested in pursuing this further. I had to store my stuff for a brief 3 months while my husband and I bought and renovated our first home. In that time, my unit was broken into and much of our stuff was stolen. We found this out on moving day when we arrived to retrieve my things. Apparently, the workers KNEW it had been broken into and didn't think they should call me. They just put a new lock on it and let it go. This was supposedly several weeks before I came to get my things. We filed a police report and submitted it to their insurance and were told by the girl behind the counter that they have no idea how long before our claim is processed. It has been 3 months and we have heard nothing. We were told by the responding officer that this particular facility has had a lot of break ins. Maybe this wouldn't happen if they had any sort of security. I spotted a single camera on the whole property. read more

I had considered renting a storage unit here until I saw their joke of a security system. They had a display going in the lobby showing the camera feeds, only two of which showed anything in detail (both only focused on the gates). All other cameras (of which there were maybe four) looked to be hundreds of feet away from anything, providing views of *maybe* 5-6 units, while the rest were nothing but a blur. At least one of the cameras showed the non-barbwire back fence plainly, while on another one you could see a door leading to the smaller units swinging open in the wind, unattended. All of this while the United Rentals place across the street had electric fences made this place look like a joke. No thank you. read more

My son & daughter in law were recently notified about "a small hole" in their unit. Upon opening the unit filled with an entire household of furniture, clothes, children's toys, bikes, golf clubs and so forth. They discovered well over half of everything they owned gone and what was left was heavily damaged. The so called "small hole"was actually large enough to remove an adult electric bike. We have been told that the personal at Istorage knew or had come to know that one of the MANY homeless people living in the units( as many as 16-20 units) were breaking into the units. Within 5-10 mins of my arrival I met some of the "neighbors" who were only to happy to tells us who had broken into our and so many other units. They took us to what was "his" unit and after walking around the storage lot we could see piles of what was left of our belongings. We even "met" some ladies living there and discovered many of our small items, they were kind enough to give us back a pair of my son's shoes and a few of the kids things. My son & his wife chose this storage company because they were assured the facility had "state of art security" and not to worry about "anything". Well, now they don't have anything LEFT to worry about.... Don't know about how long the little bit of insurance will take, we will keep you posted. read more

We looked around in 5 cities and S.M. for a storage unit and this was the only clean and not expensive units around. I liked that the employees drove around and kept everything so clean. There we're know homeless people around and it was easy for us to get our large trailer in and out of the facility . I also liked the email reminder about our payment and when I called the lady was really nice. I would recommend this storage facility to anyone. read more

My elderly folks rented the end of April, had a promo for 1.2 off May, June & July, my folks paid thru June and in May my mother received a Lein notice. She went down again and they insisted she still owed for May and June so she double paid. I went to speak to the office manager and thought we had things worked out. When I left the office my notes with her signature on it confirmed no pmt was due unitl August 1, Well guess what, yesterday, July 20, 2017 my little mom received another Lein Notice. So I went down again and the office manager insisted I bring in copies of the cancelled checks my folks had paid since there accounting system is crap. We went today and they still cant give my folks credit for any of their payments. So we packed up and left. Now we will be taking them to small claims court. read more

I loved my experience with these guys. I came to help a friend move back to Denver, and her stuff was in storage with iStorage. Patricia in the office was super helpful and professional and got her stuff moved out quickly and her bill closed out. We were able to just pull right up with the van and get going again. The place is clean and the rules are clearly posted. I flipped through the paperwork she had after renting there for 2+ years and it's very clear what each charge is for. Definitely not just "extra charges" like one person said. All the staff were friendly, up-front, and professional with every customer we saw, and we were there a while moving her stuff out. I do not live in the area, but my 88 year old mom does. They have been more than helpful with some issues (not caused by the storage place). They have worked with me, gave me fair prices (although there was a wrong quote given, but the quote price was rectified immediately) taken good care of my mom and her stored goods. Items were safe and with a good controlled atmosphere with no sign of moisture. Desiree and Debbie were personable and helpful. The only suggestion would be to have both office areas open. For my mom her storage is near the original office and is a long walk for her(they carted her back and forth when I was there though). It is probably a money issue( 2 hired people and offices as oppose to one) but I would suggest splitting the hours for both offices for convenience. Thank you for taking good care of us. read more

I have been an IStorage customer for over a year, using the storage to store items for my job. I visited IStorage weekly and never had a bad experience with the staff or the business. When I first leased and moved into this facility I was a big fan and vocalized my satisfaction to friends and family. Unfortunately, over the last two years there have been issues (created by iStorage) and communication to resolve these issues was problematic. 1. I have had two rate increases in less than 2 years and one after only 6 months. I now pay 25% more than new customers pay for the same unit. That's the thanks I get for being a loyal customer who pays on time! 2. I have had to re-create my online account 3 times due to changes that iStorage made to their computer systems. There was no advance notice, no explanation, I only found out when I couldn't log in and pay my bill! I am busy, I travel out of town and my time is important to me, so these issues are a drag. 3. I went to my unit to retrieve some items, only to find out that the handle on the roll-up door have come loose; I found the hardware on the floor when I got the door open. This was a Sunday night; I called repeatedly for 3 days only to get an answering machine, I email repeatedly and received no response. I finally heard back on Thursday with a commitment to have it checked out; when I returned on Saturday someone put the screw back in the hole, but never got a new bolt to hold it together. When I opened the door the handle fell off again. Out of desperation and frustration, I finally had to fix the handle myself to protect my property. 4. The signage around the property is outdated and not consistent with the contract I executed with iStorage. This is misleading and could lead to problems, especially if you don't have your contract with you to verify the correct access hours for the facility. The posted access hours have been outdated for at least two years and probably longer; this is not "very professional" in my opinion. Now, I want to be fair, so let me say that I like and appreciate the front office employees who have always been friendly and courteous but that does not make them a "professional". However, their focus is obviously to continue signing up new clients and not solving problems, returning calls or taking care of the facility and existing tenets. This is not the fault of the front desk staff, because they don't set the priorities; it is the fault of corporate management who appear to be short sited at a minimum. iStorage could be a great thing, but it is not there yet and has work to do get there. I hope management has a vision for excellence, and empowers employees to solve problems so I don't have to look for another storage facility. I really hope so..... read more

My husband and I rented two storage units for a year and a half. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The only concern I had was once when a homeless person was sleeping in the hallway of one of the buildings where one of our storage units was. I reported it to the office staff when I left that day. I am a college student at Cal Poly and reside in San Luis Obispo. During the summer, I needed a place to store a lot of my belongings as I was subleasing my place. I found this company and was satisfied with the pricing so decided to store my stuff here. I moved in June 13, 2014 and 3 days later received a phone call from them saying I had no lock on my unit. I was surprised and confused. I then asked them to check if some of my items were there like my bicycle and it wasn't. It was clear my unit was broken into. I was shocked at how my unit was broken into in such a short amount of time. Luckily, I purchased the warranty so was entitled to compensation, at least I thought I was. I was living in LA all summer so all my communication was over the phone. I asked them the process of how I go about getting my compensation and I filled all of the paperwork. I even had to get a letter notarized. They contacted Santa Maria police for me and obtained a police report. But it wasn't this easy. I had to call them 3-4 times a week to ask them about my situation and to remind them to pick up a police report. I asked them to look at surveillance but they told me that the cameras didn't pick up what happened in the hallway where my unit was located which didn't make any sense to me. And it took them about a month to go through surveillance alone. Every time I called, the employee, Desiree, always said I will talk to Diana for you, the manager, and she will call you back. I never once got a call from her. It was always me calling. They never took my situation seriously and they lacked professionalism. I was going in circles for 3 months straight never getting an answer. Finally, after 2 months of calling, they sent my claim process to the claims department to "headquarters". When I asked them where that was, they said I think it's in Florida or New Jersey. How do they not know? Desiree told me to Google it... The claims process was sent in July. I waited about 4-6 weeks like they said and still didn't receive a letter in the mail regarding my status. I called and called and they said once we send it off, we are not responsible for what happens after we send it off and that you should hear soon. I would ask them a way to contact claims department directly and there was no phone number or anything. They gave me an email address which I sent 5 emails to and didn't receive one response back. They said they were "backed up". How can they be backed up for 3.5 months? I kept calling and being persistent. Diana finally talked to me and said you should hear back shortly. I got a letter from this guy named Steve French and it was such a generic letter. It stated they are unable to provide me coverage because there wasn't evidence of "forcible entry" and that there was no police report accompanied. Both of these reasons were false. When Nancy had originally called me, she said the lock (that I purchased from them which was a pretty good lock I was told) appeared to be cut off. Secondly, in the 13 page document sent to claims department, there was a police report stating a burglary and there was pictures of my unit showing things being moved around and it was clear someone had gone through my stuff. As one would expect, I was very very frustrated because I paid for the warranty for this reason and now they are telling me I am not entitled to anything. I met with Desiree in person and she was of no help. She said we can't do anything and we cannot send the claim again. How did they not see the police report? Why wasn't anything on the surveillance? Why was management never there to speak to me? Who is this Steve guy? Isn't it coincidental only my unit was broken into 1-3 days after I moved in? And only certain things were stolen? Was someone watching me move in? I have a lot of unanswered questions and they left me no choice but to get my lawyer involved. I know this is a long story but I would highly recommend staying away from this place. The employees and management are very lazy, unprofessional, unhelpful, rude, and untrustworthy. They didn't take such an important matter serious. What kind of company treats their customers this way? I have never written a review before but I am so passionate about this because I have never ever been treated this way from any other company before. Staff friendly, but watch out. I did not have my lease available so I called a few weeks ahead of time to let them know I would be moving out and what kind of notice did I need to provide. They said no notice required, just let us know when done. I moved out on a Sat, Sunday they were closed, Monday was 4th of Jul holiday, so I stopped by Tuesday the 5th to let them know I was out. They had my credit card on file and a monthly payment was automatically withdrawn on Monday, 4th of Jul (the day before). They would not refund my $205 payment saying that I was suppose to provide a 10 day notice to stop the payments, which I did-I called two weeks prior to notify of move out. They took full advantage of me not having my lease available. I ended up needing a smaller unit, I went elsewhere. Also, be careful of the people living in there during business hours and bringing suspicious people in and out all through out the day. Did not feel safe in there, especially after dark. read more
