I must say this was my second visit to this Islands in a 30 day period. The first visit I was privileged enough to work with Niro the store manager to organize my daughter's birthday party. He made the process easy and pleasant. The day of the party the host helped me with positioning the tables and did not hesitate to assist. I love that they went the extra mile to customize a menu for us. Our waiter Patrick was on point and Leti was also very helpful with setting up. The party was a big success and well managed. All of my guests were happy with the food and service and were also impressed with how efficient things went. Today's visit we were assisted by Kyle and Jesus. 2026.06.18 Wanted a chill spot to watch the MEX v SKOREA game and was happy to remember Islands. Haven't been here for many years but was greeted by a friendly helpful host. Sat at the bar and addressed efficiently by the bartender who was wearing a Kor v Mex shirt. She handled everyone's orders with professional care and speed and made sure to check on everyone regularly. Happy hour menu was decent. Went with cheddar fries (good, kinda salty) and spinach dip (not enough salt?) and a $5 22oz coors light while I waited for my amiga to arrive. Came in on a Wednesday afternoon to try out their happy hour and it was surprisingly exceeded my expectations. My favorite were the sliders because it had caramelized and fried onions! Always been a burger staple of mine when I was younger and a solid go to for family dinners. Came in for a birthday celebration and everyone enjoyed the spinach and artichoke dip. What I really enjoyed is the Kilauea burger with the jalapeño black pepper crust, it's a chefs kiss. That has been my go! The service is always on point taking any special requests, they have on hand to accommodate you and your party. This location was nice sized and could host a decent size party. Tortilla soup and nachos were not good, despite many reviewers saying these two items were good. The only good part was the tortilla chips as that tasted fresh. Aside from the tortilla chips, the cheese and the beans were dry and hard. The guac super bland. The soup was not hot and also super bland with hard cheese. It wasn't as busy as I expected for a Sunday night, but still had a good crowd. The wait was less than 10 minutes. Our waitress was friendly, accommodating with the kiddos, and spot-on with our order. Great spot for families, friends, or a casual date. There's also a wide selection of drinks for adults. Happy new year. This is our Friday night place for many years. We always sit in the bar. Gloria, Tiffany, Alex always give us great service. Ordered drinks and chips & salsa. I've been here before plenty of times and it's too bad this visit knocked it down. I ordered a fish taco without cilantro. When it arrived, I moved aside the fish and cabbage, and found a large amount of cilantro, as if hidden on purpose. On top of that, the whole thing was pretty tasteless. There is plenty of parking by Islands and we were seated right away. The table was dirty when we were seated and under the table by the window there is a thick layer of black stuff that is a couple of inches wide. Not sure what the black stuff is. The women's restroom did not have any paper towels in the dispenser to dry our hands; however, the locked cabinet was unlocked so you can reach in and grab the paper towels. There is a white powder on the floor in the women's restroom. And the sink was not cleaned well, there was mold near the sink edge by the faucet. The service was good and they checked a couple of times if we wanted a drink refill or if there was anything else we needed. Ordered the Big Wave with lettuce wrap and meat well done and it included the fries. Repeated a couple of times of allergy to gluten and wheat and concerned about cross contamination. And the server mentioned that there shouldn't be an issue. When the order arrived, the meat was medium and the mustard was missing. Had an allergic reaction from the meal. I had the same meal at Islands Huntington Beach a couple of months ago and had no reaction. The server at Huntington Beach mentioned she spoke with the kitchen and made sure there wouldn't be cross contamination for gluten and wheat. We will not be coming back to the Cerritos location. read more

Food was decent but my fries were warm and hard not hot and crispy as I usually like. We went during the week and around lunch was not so Packed we were able to sit quickly. I mainly go to Islands for their Maverick and Hawaiian burgers. The seasoning on the table is also delicious to dip burgers and fries in. I believe it's a mixture of salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Service can be a hit or miss. In my latest visit, I was seated in the back corner so it was hard to flag down my server for water refills and the check. We visited this restaurant to meet up with our cousins visiting LA from Kansas. Our party was comprised of 4 elementary school kids, 2 older teens, and two adults. There was a booth big enough to seat the 9 of us comfortably. It was a bustling night for a Tuesday, but we didn't wait long to be seated. There was a pleasant, exciting hum in the restaurant, lots of families were out with the kids. Very family friendly, upbeat vibe. Perfect for our group! It's your typical American bar and grill restaurant menu. Majority of the table got some variation of burgers and fries and a drink, and one teen got a veggie burger with fries. I got a salad with crispy chicken and a side of fries. Thank goodness for the kids menu and prices- whole meal came to $125- for 9 people! I tipped the server in cash because screw taxes on tips. The food was served at appropriate temperatures, the server was very friendly and handled our large party like a champ. I wasn't there for the meal, per se, but my salad was good. I appreciated I was able to substitute the dressing that comes with the salad with blue cheese dressing, instead. My son (older teen) had a medium rare burger. The next morning, around 6am, my child started puking and crapping his guts out. We had to DoorDash some pepto bismal, pedialite, and Imodium because it turns out he got food poisoning from undercooked meat. My advice is don't order anything rare, here. No one else got sick, as they ordered medium well for their burgers. This is a great restaurant for groups with a variety of ages, and not for folks seeking a gastronomical adventure(I typically dine out for new flavors and styles of food I can't make at home). Islands is one of my favorite places for burgers. Their Kilauea is an under-rated burger for its peppery crust. The burger is so flavorful and well-seasoned that I still enjoyed my burger tonight despite it being overcooked to well-done. They were busy tonight at prime dinner hours, so service was slow; however, I'm willing to wait for my favorite burger here. Islands is one local chain that I can eat at any day. I am sad that they closed the location nearest to me in Long Beach, but this location and the Seal Beach location are close enough. The Kilauea can easily be a five-star burger for me, but the consistency/service brought the overall experience down to 3.5-4 stars for today. Note: their buffalo wings and tortilla soup are solid pre-burger appetizers. If you are wanting a drink, I usually go with a fountain drink, but I do like their Hawaiian resort-style icy cocktails. read more

My husband and I were staying in Cerritos overnight to go to a show at the nearby arts center. We used to go to Islands periodically when we lived close to one in our neighborhood. In Cerritos, we noticed that we were in the center of suburbia with mostly all chain restaurants. So, we chose to go to Islands, where we are familiar with the menu, and I know I can have a relatively healthy meal. When we arrived, we were greeted and readily seated. It was a bit strange that they asked us if we would mind sitting at a table that was half table and half booth, especially since there were many full booths and tables available. Anyway, I got my usual, the Beach Bowl, which is chicken with lots of veggies over rice and a hoisin sauce. I was a bit disappointed to see that the bowl no longer comes with the option to order it with fish, the way it was years ago. My husband ordered tacos and fries. The wine selection was small, but with a few decent options. I ordered a glass of wine and my husband had a mule. My beach bowl with delicious, with fresh vegetables that were nice and lightly cooked. My husband enjoyed his meal as well. Service was excellent. Our waters were regularly refilled, and our server checked in with us several times.
