Great brewery, out of the way in Orcas, but popular enough with the locals that many have their own mug on the wall! Enjoyed the seasonal taps with some excellent smoked salmon while seating in a cmfy patio. read more

This place is so tiny and so precious! My bf and I love beer so we made sure to check this brewery out when we came to Orcas. This was one of the highlights of the trip because you could tell these guys were new and fresh and we're now in on this little secret. About the bar is that we noticed it kept with the trend of excellent carpentry that you'll see in everything made around the island and the bar is a perfect example. Beautiful wood interior and each tap had a natural handle of wood that almost looked like driftwood pieces, each one unique. We got the 4 tastes of day: Old Salts brown ale, an IPA, a kolsch and a nitro stout. All were so different and great, but we both loved the IPA which is really interesting because IPA's really are usually too hoppy for us. It was fruity and delicious and we got a growler of it to take back with us. I love that now we'll have this growler with Island Hoppin' Brewery's label on it to make small talk with our usual beer fill-up joint back in Seattle. I wish this brewery the best of luck and hope they get their beers in distribution soon! Oh yea, and they only have snacks, so don't come thinking you'll get pub grub. I hear you can bring in food from outside so no worries there, but another couple came in while we were there and I think they were disappointed. And I loved the obligatory old black dog. Every bar should have an old dog. Island Hoppin' is no exception. read more

Island Hoppin' Brewery was one of our "must see" stops on a recent visit to Orcas Island, and I wasn't disappointed. Great beer, friendly service, and laid-back atmosphere make this tap room a fun place to unwind and settle into the 'island life' :-) Each of us had a sampler tray: a silver platter loaded with 4 oz pours of each of the seven house brews on tap. The trays are numbered, and the numbers correspond to chalk boards listing each beer currently pouring in order from lightest to darkest. There were a couple in the mix that I really didn't care for, but the majority were fantastic-- particularly the oatmeal stout. We wound up taking home growler fills of our favorites, along with some merchandise. Besides the beer, what really made this place fun was the relaxed, informal setting and the cool folks both hanging out and working there. The interior of the tap room isn't very large, and it was crowded and noisy when we arrived on a Friday afternoon. The outside seating area is basically a concrete patio with a few picnic tables, adjacent to a garage where the brewery's kegs are stored. I especially loved that they had water pails and a dog bed set out for furry companions! I will most certainly be returning here the next time I'm out Island Hoppin'. Cheers! read more

A great brewery on Orcas island! This is a fun activity that should be everyone's to do list for Orcas island! After a day of hiking we were thirsty and this place fit the bill! They have indoor and outdoor seating, they welcome dogs and kids, and have lots of games! The beer was great too! They have 7 kinds and we tried them all for $15. I really liked the Amber and my husband liked the coffee porter. When we come back to Orcas, we will stop in! read more

OK this place is great. Always comfortable...the guys that run it are cool as hell...and the beer is as tasty as it gets. You can bring your pooches too. Just thinking about it now makes me want to hop on a Kenmore Air and go back to the north side of Orcas, stroll in and have another one of their Raspberry flavored beers that is on Nitrous. It was good...and I'm a man that agreed with Dennis Leary when he said "I Like BEER flavored Beer....OK?" The raspberry was subtle and the beer was nice. Drop in, grab a handful of peanuts and chill out....you're on Island time! read more

Super nice staff and a great outdoor/indoor setup! Flights are very reasonable, though you won't find anything all that hoppy, which is strange given the name. read more

What a fantastic addition to a wonderful place! I overheard a table talking about local brews and was shocked to hear they opened one on Orcas! Tasty and unique beer options(The porter was the real crowd pleaser!) plus a cider on tap for my gluten free friend. Complimentary peanuts and pretzels to munch with your beverage are always a huge plus . The open seating is perfect for sunny days while you're in a buzzed haze. We wished we had brought our growler and we look forward to visiting again next year. It is a little tricky to find, keep in mind it's on the left near a car repair shop! Also- the samplers are the way to go! A ton of tasty beer for a great price! read more

The IPA is really great. I tasted a few others and they were also high quality. Had a great time in the back room with our friends and all four of the kids. A great way to start our weekend on the island. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon around 2-3pm. Average to busy considering there is limited seating indoors. Ordered a tasting flight at the bar and the bartender rolled his eyes AND his head in disgust and then told us how many tasters he has to fill on a Saturday. I'm sorry, am I inconveniencing YOU at YOUR JOB?! Plus they were out of the one beer I really wanted to try, a coffee porter I think it was. Plus out of the smoked salmon AND out of their claimed pub cheese. Only like 1-2 beers out of the 6 tried. Would not return. read more

This is a great little spot, the only brewery currently operating on Orcas Island! The owner of our rental house told us about this place, which I'm glad she did otherwise we may have missed it. It's outside of "downtown" Eastsound, about 2-3 minutes by car. The brewery has a small tasting room with a counter and stools, as well as a number of tables. When we were there, they had eight beers on tap, with a range of styles from standards such as IPAs and porters to more interesting creations, such as a Barleywine. We sampled each beer (tasters were $6 for four beer choices), then had a few more of our favorites. The guy behind the counter turned out to be the brewmaster, and was incredibly friendly and humble. Him and his business partner chatted with us and the other patrons while we enjoyed their brews. It was a good way to enjoy a cold winter afternoon! They don't offer a full food menu, but have a few items to snack on. They also offer growler fills to go. This should certainly be a stop on any beer lover's visit to Orcas. read more

This place is awesome! We visited every day during our 6 day stay on Orcas. Chilly, delicious beers and friendly staff. Foosball and ping pong tables too. Local chèvre and crackers are the best bar snack. We will be back! read more

This place is a real delight. Stop in for a tasting flight of the most fresh, delicious beer in the San Juans, possibly the northwest. Enjoy good tunes and the company of the most wonderful, attractive bartender, Tim. Play some games, enjoy the patio, make some new friends. Unless you hate a good time. Then don't come here. read more

Wonderful Island casual brewery with light snacks to accompany their tasty local brews. Tasted their Kölsch, grapefruit IPA and oatmeal stout on nitro. All were good with the IPA a standout. The cheeses and dried sausages were a welcome nibble alongside our beers. Ended up taking home two mini growlers and will go back the next time I'm on Orcas. read more

Fantastic beer and fun bartender. Loved the chili beer! Try it as a michelada - best I ever had! Such a cool place!

I got the Island boy wife got the dockside schwarzbier on nitro. Mine was hoppy with some citrus little on the dry side. Wife's was dark lager as they had no other darks. She thought it was OK little weird on the back end. Think it's only brew pub island. Worth a stop. read more

Loved this brewery! Great beer, staff and atmosphere. Will definitely return again if ever on orcas :) thank you guys !!

This is a good little brewery with a nice selection. Never had a bad beer here in three years. The snack selection (no kitchen) is produced locally and accompanies the beer runs well. Occasionally locals are given preference by the staff, but in general, the service is good. read more

Checked them out and got the feel of "if you're not a local....what the heck are you doing here". Oh well, downtown.....here we come. They didn't acknowledge us, we didn't know who were the employees and who were the customers. To bad, their loss. read more

We were highly satisfied with our visit here. This place had great beer not just because it was the brewery around, it's great beer that can contend with the likes of breweries in Portland. We enjoyed a tasting flight and not one of the beers were unenjoyable. I particularly liked the collab IPA, while my boyfriend was a fan of other IPA. Our bartender was friendly and fun. The merch here is great as well. This is definitely a 'must visit' read more

Good beer, not from around here and everyone seemed friendly. Let us in with our pup, she did not drink the beer but I think she enjoyed the place. We'll come back on the next visit read more

Great find before the ferry. Nice patio where dogs, kids and adults can hangout. The beer was nice too! Favew as the German style lager and the ISA. Hubbs had the Choc stout. Nice people, unpretentious, and we were welcomed nicely. The Manager is even mailing ustwo shirts because they were out of the sizes we needed. A must stop on the island! read more

I know good beer and while there were some that where drinkable, many were not. The best was the Old Madrona and brown ale. The coffee porter was more coffee than porter. The saison had almost no characteristics of the style. The Kolsch was actually undrinkable. The staff was friendly. But the space is cramped and uncomfortable. We shared the 7-pour flight and didn't find anything appealing enough to have a pint. read more

Got the sampler. Each beer was unique and flavorful and represented all aspects of the beer spectrum. The pours were monstrous for a sampler and it was only $15! I would highly recommend for anybody who likes beer. read more

Great beer! New brewery on the island with six rotating taps. They have some twenty to thirty recipes that they cycle through including IPA's, Porters, Wit's, Kolch, pilsner's and tons of others. Definitely worth going to if you like beer! read more

This is a backwater hole. Though I am not sure what that means, and i just wrote it, so I will elaborate. We were on the island for the weekend. This place was crowded (and I don't mean crowded, I mean packed) with what appeared to be almost entirely locals. That can be good or bad. If you are visiting from out of town, not so good. Neither friendly nor marginally hospitable if you didn't know anybody. Probably a great place for a local to go, if you go all of the time and everybody knows your name. Beertender was rude and had no interest in answering questions about the beers --which, frankly, were nothing at all special. Congratulations locals!! -- keep it for yourself. read more

Really a place for the locals. The beers really were not great, but the locals like to hang out there and there's games to keep you entertained. The saison and kölsch were not to style and tasted a bit funky. The staff was friendly though and the atmosphere is nice, unlike what other reviewers were saying. The best beer on tap was probably the Old Madrona. read more

My boyfriend and I love trying new breweries and this one was awesome! We stopped by on a sunny afternoon, during a trip to Orcas Island.
