It was refreshing to be greeted with such genuine hospitality, making dinner even more enjoyable. I immediately ordered exactly what I had been craving for. THE ORIGINAL THISTLE FISH & CHIPS! Satisfying my craving was precisely what I was aiming for. Perfection in a delightful crispy batter, paired with golden "chips" fries, tater sauce and coleslaw. [Don't be shy to ask for more tartar sauce.] It's a BYOB spot, so don't forget your favorite bottle of wine or beer, which goes great with fish! I'll be sure to bring a bottle the next time I go. Can't wait to go back.

As you enter there is a small waiting area and an ordering counter. Staff were very nice, cheerful, & accommodating while I waited for my order to be cooked and packaged. I didn't look into the dining room since this was a take out order. PROS: Cleanliness appears to be high on their agenda. My order consisted of Fried Oyster dinner, Fish & Chips dinner, and a Fried Shrimp & Scallops dinner. All came with French Fries and Cole Slaw. They also provided plenty of tartar and cocktail sauce. Additionally they have Malt Vinegar which is a must, at least for me when eating fish and chips. The oysters were cooked to perfection, as were the shrimp and scallops. CONS: The fish fillet was undercooked and the coating saturated with oil. I don't think the fryer was hot enough. French Fries were soggy because the steam from the closed containers. Easily solved by putting in a frying pan to crisp them up. Coleslaw was okay. As for Pricing, they are quite high for portion served. $30.00 for 2 shrimp, 2 scallops and a mound of french fries is outrageous. I can get a full seafood platter at any decent diner or restaurant for this kind of money. I think I'll look elsewhere when I get my next craving for this type of cuisine.

In 26+ years of living in NJ, I had no idea there was a huge sports bar teeming with Knicks fans, & featuring hi def television screens mounted literally in every direction, including up! Add to this an oversized menu with too many delicious sounding food & drink options to decide on ... Following tonight's Knicks record setting, series clinching blowout vs. the upstart Atlanta Hawks, MRH became my #1 "go to" destination to drink & stuff my face, while binge-ing on the evening's "must watch" College & Pro sports events. The gratin was perfectly done, the broth was rich and flavorful, and everything tasted balanced and well executed. We started with a Tito's mule and a passion fruit margarita -- both refreshing and well made. The garlic and cheese Jersey wings with their house sauce were outstanding and full of flavor. The mac and cheese was incredibly creamy, generously cheesy, and finished with a golden crust that added great texture. The ribeye with spinach was cooked to the perfect temperature, and the blue cheese burger with bacon and onion rings had an amazing contrast between creamy and crispy. The mushroom pizza with extra cheese was another great choice. The menu offers Irish, Italian, and American options, so there's something for everyone. It's a family-friendly sports bar with a welcoming atmosphere -- perfect for watching your favorite team while enjoying great food. Highly recommend. We will absolutely return.

A Ripper: otherwise known as a "Deep-Fried Hotdog". Three plain and simple words, but when…read morecombined, they are nearly pornographic. At least they are for me. Rutt's Hut has been on my punch list for a long time. Actually NJ fried Hot Dogs have been both from Rutt's and from Hiram's over in Ft. Lee. I got to Hiram's and today was my luck day to get a shot at a Ripper. Rutt's is a bit off the beaten path and is down a meandering pothole filled road in a very industrial feeling part of town surrounded by wooded areas. It seems like it would be a better place for a serial killer body dump than a Hot Dog vendor but it's been there since 1928 so it must be doing something right. There is a large, private, and free parking lot which is a huge bonus in my playbook. The building looks like it is in disrepair. There are 2 areas to eat here. A door to the left seems to be a pub/bar with sit down service and then there is the right side that I went to which is a stand up, indoor counter where you can get in and out very quickly. This is a cash only spot so come prepared. Get to an open counter worker, give them your order, and pay when they hand over the goods. I was a little intimidated when I walked in because it was clear that everyone else in the place understood the ordering routine and knew the menu (there are quite a few other items you could order other than Rippers). I stood in a corner like a potted plant for about 10 minutes and watched what others did when they walked in before I figured out the process. It's pretty simple but I did not want to screw up Rutt's world order by doing something stupid. The 3 Rippers I ordered were good (but not best in class for me). The one I liked the most was the chili cheese dressed Ripper because the chili was actually quite tasty. On the counter are large containers of brown mustard and almost-fluorescent yellow relish. People seem to love the stuff. It was a bit like sweetened sauerkraut for me and the color of it makes me think it is either radioactive or seasoned with antifreeze. I would be happy going here again but I can't say that my Rippers were anything special. I might ask for them to be a little overdone next time to add a bit of texture. What I did like about Rutt's was the history, the dilapidated building, the simplicity of the menu, the naming of their dogs as "Rippers", and the fact that it felt like I was eating among real NJ natives that knew exactly what they were there for. Experiencing local culture doesn't get much better than that.

The cod taco appetizer was surprisingly big and really delicious. It could easily be a meal or shared. The French onion soup was fine, and the apple salad was fresh and very large. We split it between three people without any issue. The pizza had good flavor and plenty of cheese, but the dough was a bit too soft for my taste. We only ordered it because so many menu items were unavailable. They were out of the Chicken Milanese, the short rib pappardelle, the spare ribs, and the butternut squash soup and probably more. It felt like everything one of us wanted to order wasn't available, which was pretty disappointing. Service was friendly, but there were a few small mix-ups. When I asked what was their house wine, I was told they didn't have one even though it was printed on the menu. And I ordered my pizza with pepperoni on the whole pie and artichokes on half, and got half plain and half roni and chokes. My friend enjoyed their tomato soup, and said the espresso martini was very good. Overall, it has a cute atmosphere and nice staff, but with so many items unavailable, the experience fell short for us. Would come back and just sit at the bar for appetizers and a cocktail.
