Review #38 for 2018. A friend wanted to pick up some okolehao, and Island Distillers was the only place we knew of that carries it, since we don't know anyone who makes it at home. I stopped by Island Distillers last week and found it tucked away in Hawaii Kai near Kaiser High School. There's a row of marked parking stalls alone the street just in front of the building. When I arrived I was greeted by one of the workers, Brad, who was awesome. He gave me some samples of various flavors of vodka and mixes such as coconut vodka mixed with pineapple juice and hibiscus vodka mixed with green tea. Both were delicious! I came for the okolehao, so I tried that as well. I don't drink much, and I've never had okolehao before, but I thought it tasted good. I really liked it mixed with guava juice, which I sampled as well. Any way, it was nice stopping by Island Distillers and trying some of their products. I bought a bottle of okolehao as planned, and I know my friend will be very ha

The four of wanted to do something different, so why not some vodka tasting. With a reservation for the 11:00am time slot, we parked out front and entered through the gate and proceeded to the tasting room. We were greeted by Nika who checked us in. Nika offered us refreshments and apple bananas that are grown on the property. With 2 other guests, our group was then welcomed by Dave, the owner, and his two Labradors. We proceeded to the outdoor lanai area with patio tables, a waterfall and pond. Dave described his property that had sugar cane and apple banana trees and goes into a background about himself and how he got into the vodka distilling business. Next, we proceeded to the main building, where the distilling and bottling of the vodka takes place. Dave pointed out the sacks of grains that are used in the distilling and the stack of boxes that contained the empty bottles for bottling. He then walks us to the still and describe how the vodka is distill and how they bottle it and label it. Dave said they will distill a rum in the near future. The tour ended back at the tasting room where Nika poured tastings of the Vodka, Coconut Vodka, Hibiscus Vodka, and Okolehao, a 100 proof spirit. She also add a mixer to the vodkas to show a different taste of the spirits. We're glad we made a visit here. Give it about two hours for the entire experience. It was an interesting and informative tour by Dave and a friendly tasting conducted by Nika.

We bought a Groupon to check this place out and had an amazing experience! We tasted all the different vodkas made on site, first on their own, then with a fresh juice or other mixer. Our hostess was very friendly and knowledgeable about any questions we had. You have to try this place!

Me and my wife had a great time. Well worth the money. They have free parking and two friendly dogs that make up the welcoming crew which was a nice touch. Each of their vodkas were smooth packed with a punch. We were provided a tasting for each kind of vodka to include one that was mixed with a juice or soda. We will be back. Thanks Jerry!!!

We got a Groupon for this place for two and oh my gosh what a surprise GEM! You drive through Hawaii Kai behind Kaiser High School and park off the side of a warehouse with Kokohead crater in site. Walk through the gates with the dog warning sign and follow the slippah prints to the tasting room. We got stopped by a cute little golden lab on our way and had a photoshoot with her. You go inside and the tasting room is SO fun and clean. There's so much room and lots of seating inside and outside. We got to taste each of their vodkas made with sugarcane and after you taste the half shot of the vodka - the server gives you a shot glass of a mixed drink with the vodka you just tasted. We had fresh pineapple juice mixed with the coconut vodka and fresh guava juice with hibiscus vodka and a tomato juice mixed with the red pepper vodka - that was really interesting! I will bring all my visitors to this place and always buy at least one bottle from them lol! They are getting their outdoor space ready to be an upscale venue - it's so nice out there and relaxing too. Parking is easy and free. Bathrooms are located right in the tasting room.

My GF and I visited this place and were fortunate enough to be the only ones who signed up for a tour during a particular day and time. So the owner gave us a personal tour and some extra information IMO. He also had 3 dogs who followed us around, and since we are dog lovers, we thought that this was great! The tastings that he provides as part of the tour is great too -- he will let you try all of the products that he makes/distills, and even some fruit cocktails that he makes with his spirits. They were all good. I especially liked his Hawaiian chili pepper vodka. It was spicy and great. I bought a bottle to take home with us. While this might not be an awe inspiring tour, it is interesting and costs only $10 pp. So I would recommend it to anyone.

Omg this place is a hidden gem in Hawaii Kai. Friendly owner. Great price for a 30m plus tasting. Just to start the walk up to the place is really nice and you are greeted by two ridiculously cute friendly yellow labs wearing leis. You get 5 tastings- regular vodka, coconut, hibiscus, chili and then a Okolehao. You also get 5 shots w mixers. Each has a unique taste w the mixed drink and it makes you want a another shot. You can purchase bottles for very reasonable prices especially if you buy a few. They have tanks, t-shirts, stickers, shot glasses and more for sale. It's a beautifully open bar so going during covid is no problem. The owner wears a shield and it's only you and your small private group for the tasting. If you live in HK, why haven't you stopped here and if you live on the island, it's worth the trip. If you are visiting, it's a great unique experience and you will definitely feel the aloha.

Fantastic tour experience. The owner, Dave, is very knowledgeable about the distilling process and has some unquote apparatuses that are the heart of the distilling process. The product is phenomenal. Book a tour! You won't be disappointed if you are curious about distilling.

Wonderful vodka and a great tasting experience!! Would highly recommend to anyone! Great use of Hawaiian heritage and local ingredients in delicious vodka.

Absolutely loved this place! Enjoyed the tour and tasting. Really nice staff. Definitely coming back!

Fun place! Learned quite a bit and sampled some top shelf vodkas and Okolehao.

You can feel how much passion he has for what he does. And the wine? Fantastic. Tropical, fruit-forward, creative, and eclectic blends. I'm usually a dry red girl and didn't expect to love them as much as I did -- but I was pleasantly surprised across the board. Tony explained each wine with so much energy and knowledge, making the tasting fun and engaging without ever feeling rushed or scripted. He also walked us through the artwork on the walls (some of it his, plus work from other artists), shared the vision behind Oeno, and really made the experience feel personal and special. We ended up buying a couple bottles and will definitely be back to see what new wines he creates next. Seating is limited, which adds to the intimate feel. When we arrived, only about four tables were occupied, so we were seated right away. We chose to sit outside, but indoor seating was also available. Parking was easier than expected. There is plenty of street parking out front, along with a lot behind the building. Both are metered, but when we went the meters in the back lot were out of order, so we lucked out. They offer wine by the glass with 2 oz and 6 oz pours, or you can grab a full bottle. We went with four 2 oz pours so we could try a few different options, which was a great way to mix it up without committing to one bottle. We also ordered the beet salad for $14, which was super fresh and well balanced. The light vinaigrette did not overpower anything and really let the beets, mixed greens, and feta shine. Simple, but done right. The staff mentioned they host wine tasting events on Wednesdays, which definitely sounds worth checking out next time. Overall, prices felt reasonable and the atmosphere was on point. It is a great spot for a relaxed night or casual date. The only downside is the bathroom situation. It is a shared restroom outside of the space, and when we went it was not in great condition. It was not well stocked and pretty messy. Not really the bar's fault, but something to be aware of. Would definitely come back.

That brings us to the cocktails they have here. The cocktail drinks are limited also. I like a good bourbon not whitskey. The server went into a long explanation why they don't have bourbon at there bar, resturant, whatever this place is. This place needs a lot of work on their hospitality.

Upon arrival, I mistakenly presented the wrong membership card. The front desk attendant responded by reprimanding me loudly and publicly, accusing me of attempting to use an invalid card rather than offering any assistance or basic courtesy. I was sent to membership services, where no effort was made to verify my status or provide a reasonable solution--only an instruction to leave and return with a different card. The lack of a simple verification process is concerning in itself. While addressing this issue, I witnessed another guest--a man accompanied by his wife and young daughter--being similarly embarrassed at the front desk for the same reason. This suggests a broader issue with how guests are treated, not an isolated lapse in judgment. Although another staff member eventually offered a practical solution that allowed me to verify my membership, the experience up to that point was unnecessarily hostile and unprofessional. Unfortunately, the restaurant service was no better. An older male server with a visible limp ignored direct questions and, when approached a second time, responded abruptly and rudely, telling me to "wait" in an aggressive tone. This behavior was entirely inappropriate. Additionally, an older woman seated nearby felt entitled to get up from her table and interrupt me as I am placing my food order by loudly demanding attention from staff in a disruptive and discourteous manner, further contributing to an uncomfortable and chaotic environment. While one server later attempted to recover the situation with professionalism, the overall experience was marked by hostility, poor communication, and a clear lack of respect toward guests. And the food was not good. For $18 tuna sandwich and lobster bisque I expected more than just a 711 type of meal. I'm beyond disappointed- the only good thing was the view of the ocean and sun was out yesterday. This visit did not reflect the values of courtesy, respect, and fellowship that the Elks organization is meant to uphold. Significant improvements in staff conduct and guest relations are clearly needed.

Quality/Quantity - Princess Cruise, in my opinion, is a medium priced carrier. We have been lucky with some good values this year, 2023. We have logged a hundred days at sea just this year with just this brand. But you would already know that if you are following. Food is good, you can have even better food if you are willing to pay extra. Ports are good, for the most part. See all reviews for the best ports and the just okay ports. Entertainment is just okay; we feel their competitors do a better job. Even some of their parent and "sister" companies do a better job. Activities have been good with the exception of one ship. But it was not the ship or rather it was the culture of the "captain" probably cutting costs? This one ship gave out point tickets rather than actual prizes. We participate in most everything, otherwise we can get very bored. And the more sea days we have, the longer the cruise can feel. But you know you are getting older when you actually start enjoying sea days, LOL. Atmosphere - Depends where you travel to, see all my previous Yelps. We take exceptionally long cruises, so typically very few kids are on board. Service - Our experience is that longer cruises have better service and smaller ships have better service. Due to our status, we were invited to the Captain's Happy Hour (discounted drinks if you do not have the package) daily. And also, to the Captain's Party (with free drinks). Price - Again, a medium priced brand. It also depends on where you go, if you have been before ($$ shore excursions), etc. And most importantly, how much you drink and if you have the drink package or NOT. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1965 and for being the second largest cruise line (by revenue). 15 ships. 1974 - Princess was a subsidiary of P&O (Carnival currently owns them also). 1980's - Gained popularity because of the show "Love Boat," if you know the show, you are of the same generation as me, LOL. 2003 - Parent company is now Carnival.
