Quick hearty breakfast. Exacly what we needed to get an early start to our day. Bonus points for coffee to go.

I had dinner here on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago while in town. Everglades City is a very small town and nighttime dining options are few. Island Cafe had several cars parked in front so I thought that was a good sign. This is a table service restaurant and I ordered the fried scallop dinner with a loaded baked potato and salad for $25. Then entree arrived about 15 minutes later. The salad had a little cheese on top of the greens with ranch dressing on the side. It was a good salad. The seafood came with several fried scallops and a couple of hush puppies along with a small ear of corn and the baked potato. What was missing was the cheese and bacon for the potato. The waitress disappeared so I wasn't able to get the missing bacon and cheese and had to make do with some butter for the tater. This was disappointing. The scallops were decent in taste but I couldn't get anymore cocktail sauce because of the missing waitress. This meal was substandard and I felt underwhelmed by the entire experience. The food was ok in taste but it didn't stand out to me and the table service was non existent. Perhaps Island Cafe is better than this but giving a 3 score is generous in my opinion. read more

Excellent home style cafe with friendly staff, great food, and reasonably priced. I ordered their gator basket. It came out quickly, it was hot, chewy, moist, and delicious. Probably one of the best fried gator I've had. "Mimi", my server was polite, friendly, and on the ball. She came by several times to check on me and make sure everything was okay. I had to try their key lime pie because I she said it was really good, and it's a problem, lol. Anyhow, I ordered it, and she was right. I had a great meal and will certainly be back. We stopped here for an early lunch on a weekday and found this place to be very charming and not crowded. There are cute little Knick knacks everywhere and our server was quick to take our drink order. The menu has lots of great choices and I settled on a Buffalo Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwich with fries. The sandwich came nice and hot and was enjoyable. I love Buffalo chicken, but it often doesn't love me, but this wasn't too spicy so I enjoyed it. The sandwich was a good size and I didn't want to eat it all, but it was so good that I did. Our server was very attentive, but not Intrusive. Prices are reasonable for the area and I would absolutely return for a meal. read more

A great local/hometown feel with some really good food and service. By no means fancy but fun and quirky. You're immediately greeted as you walk in and given the option to sit where you wish. A nice mix of locals chatting with the staff or other friends they ran into or like myself tourists looking for a nice place to have a great meal. Well I will say that I was not one bit disappointed. Jasmine, our waitress was friendly and checked in a few times to make sure things were good. I had the special of the day which was the Grouper Ruby. This was served with a salad, baked potato and veggies. As I was in the Everglades I washed it down with an Islamorada Citrus Ale. The grouper was cooked and seasoned well with that right off the grill feel. I made sure to leave enough room for dessert and was quite content with the piece of warmed up Pecan Pie, with whipped cream of course. This place is crazy good! We ordered everything from the fried food (gator, fried pickles, fried frog legs) to pizza to burgers to grilled chicken tacos and it was all excellent. Very laid back, lots of locals, relaxed attentive service. Much better food than the pricier restaurants we tried this week. Thank you Island Cafe! We arrived in Everglades City and went here for dinner. The wait staff was very friendly, considering it was a holiday weekend and almost closing time. We have burgers and fries, nothing to write home about. Thin patties, decent rolls, battered fries. Crab cakes were the same. Chicken fingers and fries were OK too. The real winner was the GATOR nuggets. Fries bits of gator. Super crunchy and yummy! And it was the only thing in town open for breakfast on Easter. We've been each morning and plan to go tomorrow because the breakfast is fantastic. French toast, sausage, waffles, bacon, white toast... ALL of it super yummy! If you are in town, definitely go here for breakfast! Over all, wonderful experience. read more

service was slow. When food was delivered my wife asked for ketchup and was never brought. Server never checked back on us. We asked for a server to tell our server we wanted the check and didn't come and had to flag her down. After about 8 minutes. Food was mediocre. When I told the server of our complaint all she said was sorry. The cashier appeared to be the owner or manager and she just said it was one of this days. I said couldn't believe that comms t and said good customer service doesn't have one of those days. She did nothing except to say sorry. Nothing else. Won't ever go there again if in Everglades city. Nice quaint place with truly delicious food. We had the mac and cheese squares with chicken bacon ranch wrap and fries, we were blown away with their deliciousness! Best meal of our trip so far. The staff was very friendly and while there wasn't a large selection at the gift shop they things they had were cute and personal. I got a shot glass to take home! If you're looking for a great local eatery with friendly folks, this is the place. I've been here multiple times when visiting the everglades & Chokoloskee, and I've always enjoyed my meals. The fried gator here is, in fact, gator: so many places throughout the area serve chicken and fool the tourists. This is the real deal. Burgers here are also well made, and all with well-seasoned fries. The staff here, though, might be the best thing: always friendly and they treat you like a local. Good, not great. It was a quick bite to eat while we waited for our airboat tour. And when I say quick, we may have been there a total of 20 minutes. The curds were and wrap were good. The salad was underwhelming. Now please note, it had tomatoes, onions and peppers on it, but my daughter took it all off. Lol. She had to make her own dressing because she asked for balsamic vinegarette but they gave her oil and vinegar in separate jars. It was ok though. She still enjoyed it and ate the whe thing. I started with the clam chowder soup but wouldn't recommend it since it tasted like canned food. Other than that everything else we ordered was great. We sat for a while until someone took our order, I believe that the person who was supposed to take our order didn't want to bother with us, but the person who did end up taking our order was very nice and friendly. This is an okay restaurant. It wasn't the worst seafood nor was it the best seafood. The server was a sweet high school junior who indulged all my questions concerning his education at a very small K5-12 grade school. Back to the food. Hubs ordered the seafood basket which included Cole slaw, fries, oysters, fish, shrimp, clams and frog legs. The fish was delicious but the clams were chewy and cooked too long. I ordered the shrimp basket which came with Cole slaw and fries. The shrimp were very large and tasty. Great service, average food. read more

Stopped by for Key Lime Pie and ice cream after a hot day biking in the Everglades. Staff was friendly and there was lots of seating. The Key Lime Pie was okay. Decent lime flavor, but not my favorite. Ice cream was fairly standard and unremarkable, but mint chocolate chip and cookies & cream was just what I was craving. Their normal menu seems to be heavy on fried things, so probably not a place I would come to for food normally. But it is conveniently located in Everglades City (where there appeared to be a dearth of other food options) so if you need a quick bite, this is the spot. read more

When I think of Island Cafe, immediately "Under the Sea" starts playing in my head. This is a cute diner over near the Everglades that locals seem to check out time and time again. They serve up some good roadside diner food that'll help burn some time as you wait for your national park tour to commence. The breakfast menu here is fairly standard with options ranging from omelettes to pancakes to country fried steaks. We decided to try their omelettes which came with a biscuit and a side of country fried potatoes. The food was good but nothing spectacular, however it was a cheap dining option considering the lack of competition in the area. I say that's a good thing! On my way out, I also ordered a strawberry cream cheese muffin which was really a solid way to end our meal. If you're looking for a nice stopover in the Everglades, do check this place out. They're also attached to a small gift shop next door where you can purchase all of your alligator souvenirs til your hearts content. read more

Went to Island Cafe a couple weekends back with a friend after hiking in Fakahatchee. I was honestly really surprised with how much bang you get here for your buck! Going to a few other places in Everglades City I assumed they were all over priced (understandable being a small town and touristy) but this place was great! The atmosphere was pretty chill and the AC was very welcomed after a hot day outside, the service was quick and our server was nice and refilled my water multiple times during our short meal (which is a big deal for me haha). The part I couldn't get over was the fish sandwich. I looked on the menu and it was $12 bucks so I assumed it wouldn't be anything great, so I asked and boy was I wrong. GROUPER! A generous portion too! And if you get some of the sauce they put on the fish tacos to slap on your sammy *chef's kiss*. So anyway, I highly recommend Island Cafe to anyone who happens upon Everglades City in search of a good meal and classic small town Florida vibes. read more

The food here was incredible. The selection was really good with great prices. We had to try the gator nuggets to experience the local cuisine and it was very very nice. The portion of gator nuggets is slightly small for a group of 4 but would be perfect for a group of 2. I also had a chicken and bacon wrap with fries. The fries are the best I have ever had and were incredibly crispy. The atmosphere is good and reminds me of a typical small town American restaurant. On making my rounds of the eateries of Everglades city we had to try island cafe! We went as a large group and ate in their back room by the ice cream/ gift shop. Highlights were the staffs helpfulness and cheery attitude even though the place was quite busy. I particularly liked their fries and key lime pie. Grouper was good but nothing to write home about. Portions were passable but on the small side. Some nifty items in the gift shop. Worth a stop if you're in the area! read more

The staff is friendly and the service is quick. After spending a week in the area and eating there daily we became familiar with the staff and food. A little carb-heavy for breakfast, but when asking for a substitution and alternative options, the waitresses were great. While the Florida Keys might be known for their key lime pies, if your in the area, the Island Cafe should not be passed by. Their fried key lime pie is delicious, and it's really more of a deep fried burrito. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be found here with breakfast ending at 11am. Breakfast is very simple with offerings such as traditional egg platters, biscuits and gravy, french toast and a breakfast sandwich. Lunch and dinner offer mostly fried items. The bacon served for breakfast is a bit oily and only comes crispy which I personally hate and asked on 2 separate occasions for it to not be. Both times the request was ignored. Service is slow. They might be short staffed and the girl that mans the register isn't all that friendly. But if your in the area for some good fried food or key lime pie and have the time I recommend the stop! read more
