I found Dr Ishihara from a recommendation because I was looking for someone who would do the Paragon CRT treatment (a specific hard contact lens treatment that allows you to sleep with your contacts and not need any correction during the day).
You can make online appointments but I'd just recommend you call since it's easier.
When I went in, they did the normal eye exam, and they had a special retina exam that they asked me if I wanted, but it was extra. That was a little odd to me, because I thought most doctors just do standard procedures. But I said yes.
Then I met Dr. Ishihara and he spent time to explain to me what was happening and what Paragon CRT is usually meant for and why it's challenging and also why I might not be able to continue. It was very educational and helped me a lot. But he also said he would work with me to see if we could continue, but warned me that if things didn't work out well, he couldn't recommend I stay on it. Of course I like the program but it was good to hear that if the health of my eyes were in danger, he would let me know.
It took a few appointments to find out if I could continue since he had to look at the progress of my eyes, and after he observed me a few times he figured out what was the right lens for me and ordered them.
Parking is just in Ala Moana since his building only has reserved parking for the building; I just parked in the parking lot near Longs area.
One great thing: he is open on SATURDAYS.
One thing to watch out: the office seems to run late a lot and has a small waiting area, so just bring something to occupy yourself just in case. read more
