Freshest sushi and ahi tuna I've ever had, ocean to table fresh. Wish they had a sample roll with their most popular sushi rolls so that I could of tried them all. Specialty rolls are always a big portion of which I could only eat one, so it was stressful to decide on just ONE from their specialty rolls. Can't wait to be back to try a new roll. Hubby ordered three basic rolls and he was the happiest, we even had some left overs to take home. Coconut Mai Tai was amazing, will definitely be my go to drink at Isana. Incredible spot of HH and a fantastic variety of food. There is a ton of sushi but also a pretty decent variety of non-fish items and yummy soups! They have a full bar or a large sushi bar to sit at. You can also dine next to the windows and see a beautiful sunset since the restaurant faces the beach. We loved this place. Isana was a good experience, but nothing to ride home about. I've had plenty of sushi and nothing about theirs really stood out to me. They have a large assortment of rolls, big rolls, and entrees. I appreciated the variety, because there was something on the menu for everyone. I opted for a drink and the sunset roll, it was good but not amazing. Another thing that I did not love was the soy sauce selection - normally you have the option for the "lite low sodium" option or the normal one. We only had the normal one, and it was overly salty. We were celebrating a birthday so the dessert option with a candle was a nice touch for the experience. The service was decent, but not amazing. This is probably not a place I would be itching to come back for, but I do like that they have a late night happy hour! read more

Five stars for everything! We haven't been to this establishment in over 10 years and we're glad we made the decision to come back. Cool decor, relaxing vibes and yummy goodness. I was especially impressed with the service here. All the employees from the hostesses, bar tenders and wait staff all seemed to really enjoy their job. Their interactions with dinner guests appeared very genuine and not "put on". Feels like great camaraderie among the employees. I love a restaurant that feels fresh and CLEAN and Isana definitely hits the mark. No stickiness, no dust no grime and spotless windows. Even a peek at the back kitchen when the doors would swing open appeared spotless. We stopped in for happy hour sushi and were pleasantly surprised with the prices. Pros: friendly staff, fast service , following covid protocols , good happy hour, nice atmosphere, clean and nice decor, right by the ocean. Cons: we only ordered happy hour rolls so we can't say anything about other food. As far as happy hour rolls goes fish was not that fresh, rice was not fresh and wasn't the best sushi rice we had, it was missing seasoning. Rolls were sloppy and were falling apart. Tempura shrimp roll did not have crunchy tempura, it was more soggy so probably been cooked awhile ago. Even soy sauce tasted off, it was more salty than soy sauce we usually eat. Maybe they just use old ingredients for happy hour but we left full but not happy. Not our favourite place in Maui that we tried. read more

It had been years since I'd been to Isana, so once my coworker mentioned that there were new owners I was excited. My birthday was this past week, so it was perfect time to invite family with us & give it a try to celebrate. There were 6 of us, so we made a reservation & were seated with a nice view of the ocean. The menu consisted majority of seafood/fish related dishes, so if that's not your thing choices are a bit limited. The owner is a known fisherman, so you know what you're eating is as fresh as can get. Everyone ordered sushi & myself & one other person wanted the won tons, but they were out, so I had to come up with a back up plan. Decided on the spicy hamachi & spider roll. Both of which were really good. You just know when you bite into fresh fish. The fried chicken was also really good & crispy which came with a shoyu mayo type sauce & served with their butter garlic rice & mac salad. One of my cousins didn't realize it came with those things, so she ordered a side of the rice separately. The mac salad was local style & the rice was pretty much fried rice without the meat which in my opinion could've used more garlic. Like any new restaurant though, a couple kinks do still need to be worked out. There were 3 times where sushi was brought to our table which wasn't ours. Not sure if that was someone else's or if there was a miscommunication somewhere. Also, we had ordered oxtail soup which ended up never coming, which ended up being fine as we were full, but that was the first thing we ordered. There were also no curtains on the window, so until the sun goes down it is in your face which if you have sunglasses it's not a big deal, but I can see it being an issue for some people. The lighting is also a bit dark in the corners of the restaurant, a couple seated behind us were pretty much in complete darkness until candles were brought to them . Other then that, I can see them doing really well. They really turned this place around with a nice remodel & just good vibes all around. Go & give this place a try! read more

If you visit during the busy season, you might not get in or you have to wait. But cmon...who in their right mind travels during the busiest time of year to one of the most sought after islands in the world? Check the fresh catch on the board as you walk in. That's where you start for your sushi or sashimi. Also, read the bio on the owner then you'll know how fresh the stuff is and how much they care about quality. Like they ran across the st to pull it out of the sea. And yes, your right across the st from the bay. Way better than a strip mall. The cocktail list is fun and worth it. Sake list is also worth doing. We did. You really don't have to dress your best to come here but please be decent. Nobody wants to see your toes dragging in some sand. Li Hing Mui Margarita. Try it. I love it. Others in my group didn't. So, I drank theirs. Also, the Hamachi app and crispy tuna rice. I also got the Hawaiian roll, very tasty. Went for late night happy hour at 9pm! They also have it from 3-5pm. Love a good happy hour deal. Pros: Fresh, high quality fish. The happy hour menu has a lot of different roll options. My friends and I love unagi so we got a ton of unagi hand rolls and the eel was cooked just right, not too chewy as eel can get sometimes. Otherwise I was still pretty full from an earlier happy hour I went to at 5pm that same day so I wasn't able to fully enjoy and try other things on the menu. When you're recommended a place sometimes it works out for the best other times not. This was the NOT the case we stopped by for a happy hour visit by a recommendation last week. The greeter was gracious and honest and said she only had one table , a larger one, and that it was only open for an hour. We said we knew we could get appetizers and drinks down in Under an hour. The fish is so fresh and delicious and every sushi ordered did not disappoint. They have some local favorites as well-- I loved the chow fun. I took the caterpillar roll without unagi sauce, the rainbow roll that I shared with my husband and the spicy tuna hand roll. My husband took the salmon skin roll, the tuna avocado roll and the unagi cucumber hand rolls. My favorite was the caterpillar, but everything was delicious and fresh. Upon arrival, not accommodated accordingly due to the position of my table made through reservation prior to my arrival and or arriving 15 minutes before set reservation. The first time I was inquoring for better seating out of the walkway, prior to sitting, i felt as though i was over looked. The reason was due to being understaffed although other people were sitting in that section i inquired upon. Furthermore, service took around 15-30 minutes between each plate, totaling 2 hours and 30 minutes of full service totaling $248 between 2 adults. If you ever decide to eat at a sushi restaurant, never sit at a table, always go to the sushi bar and sit with the chef that will prepare your sushi. As we entered, the hostess told us there were no tables available and we were fine as we asked to be seated at the sushi bar (not drink bar). We were lucky to be seated in front of chef Ylone. He is an amazing sushi chef. We ordered the following: -- "oyster shooters": Goes down very smoothly. The sake was smooth and the oyster was delicate (not tough at all). -- "spicy yellowtail roll": Light rice outside. The seaweed was a bit tough to bite through. The yellowtail was very buttery -- "amberjack nigiri": Forgot what leaf was used in between the rice and fish, but it was very fresh and added a different flavoring. The ponzu mix was better as a choice over the standard soy+wasabi. The fish is a bit tougher then salmon or yellowtail. -- "yellowtail sashimi": Since the yellowtail roll was so buttery, we ordered the sashimi and were treated with the belly part. SO GOOD! This tasted like toro (fatty tuna belly). The best dish of the night! -- "spicy salmon roll": The fish is fresh, and the consistency of rice to fish was well split. Light rice, thick cuts of salmon. -- "amberjack sashimi": Tougher fish. Would not recommend if you also don't like red fish (like tilapia or a geoduck). We may skip this next time, as we may try tuna instead. -- 2x rum cocktails: not strong/heavy at all. A nice pairing with light/whiter sashimi. In short, we would recommend if you decide to come here, sit in front of your chef, like Ylone, who gets to know you and have some great recommendations as well as preparation and gets to understand what you may like. Isana's has been knocking it out of the park recently. They've got some of the best and biggest kama, that I've seen in restaurants. Go early and order the kama because it runs out pretty quick. While other places are claiming that they're the best restaurant in Maui , ISANA remains humble but delivers the best .

An update to our review. there are a couple things to consider. 1) covid 2) how isana responded to covid. 1: damn, isana did a great job staying open and helping locals. They were open and doing take out while following all the strict guidelines the state and county mandated. 2: now that the tourists are back. the first and main reason that us and many others go to isana is Nicole! Nicole is an amazing person and is friendly to everyone no matter if they are a local or visitor. We only go to Isana if Nicole is there, her service and dedication to the restaurant is unparalleled and she puts in so much effort you can't help but want to high five her! read more
