Excellent customer service. Great cut. The best coffee in town. Tried many other places and I keep coming back to it.

Had a cut here for the first time. The service was good, and the salon was clean. One thing though, the cut was just decent. While I like the overall style of the cut, I noticed today when I was parting my hair on the side that the shortest layers of the haircut are 3 inches from the scalp. That's fine for bangs, but when it's at the top of your head, you look like Alfalfa from the Little Rascals. The experience was great, but unfortunately the results were not as great. Would I come here again, if I needed to, but this won't be my go-to place. read more

I won't return here, because of the haircuts (declining quality) and because the stylist was late for every single appointment. Initially the haircut was good, and moderately priced, but later haircuts, months and months later, were um, well exactly like the first one! I specifically told her how I would like the length and shape to change, but she still gave me the exact same haircut every time. Regarding the lateness - very unprofessional! I scheduled the 1st appointment of the day on my last visit, because I knew that ANOTHER late start (from 20 - 45 minutes) would push me over the edge. Yes, she was late even for her 1st appointment of the day. The owner told me it was okay because the stylist lived (a few cities away) and that I was welcome to sit down and read their magazines. Oh boy! Can I really spend my whole morning here? The owner and the stylist ever apologized for the lateness, and acted very tetchy if I mentioned it. If you have a life, a job, other appointments and commitments, this may not be the place for you. I cannot dedicate most of a morning or afternoon to a haircut. read more

Got my 1st color and haircut with the owner Brenda. Color/high light came out great but haircut was nothing to write home about. I asked for a layered cut. It's probably the easiest Asian hair cut. She looked like she was scared to "go for it." She didn't cut with confidence. She was cutting little by little. At the end, she only cut off 1 inch and didn't even do a great job. I think she spent 15 minutes in cutting... Go there for hair color but NOT for hair cut! By the way, they charge much more than the rest of the Island but they really shouldn't... They are not good... read more

I just had the most ridiculous experience here. My friend made me a brow waxing appointment - hooray! I am in desperate need of some shaping help, and with young baby, it's very tough to get done. I show up on time for my appointment, and two stylists are cutting hair. Neither of them asks us if we need help, have an appointment or anything. They don't even acknowledge us. When I did the "Ahem... I have an appointment," they actually sort of ignored me. Then one woman said that it would be "a while." I'm on my lunch break, so I ask how long that is. "15 or 20 minutes." After 20 minutes, I checked in again and told them I had to leave if they weren't ready. They were so vague, could not be bothered, and just said "You'll have to make another appointment, I guess." Never once an apology, explanation, etc. What a bummer! read more

I had gone here for a couple manicures and loved Betty. I was supposed to have one stylist, but she didn't show up so they gave me someone else. She didn't seem to be interested in anything I asked for. She did a horrible job styling my curly hair. I was NOT impressed by her attitude or her skills. I won't be coming back here. read more

I came here a couple months ago to get a haircut because my hair was pretty long and my ends were really dead. I asked for a layered hairstyle but at the end, my hair was straight. It didn't look layered at all nor close to what I wanted. But I guess overall the place looks nice. It's really clean inside and I like how everything is set up. I don't think I will come back to this place for another haircut, though. read more

after my last visit, i decided to come back here for a much needed trim. I thought my cut was okay, i wasn't TOO thrill but on a good note, I really like how she spent her time cutting my hair. When i went to the front to pay, I asked if they had the student discount because it stated on the website about STUDENT DISCOUNT. Then the receptionist/stylist/ what so ever acted so snobby and rude to me like she didn't want to give me the discount. Well let me just say...NEWS FLASH* we are in a recession and i love me some discounts! Anyways, the totaled came out to be $45, on top of that, i tipped her $10. Man, i was a bit shock because it was only a little trim! I don't think I would be coming back here anymore. It's way overpriced . read more

first off, the service is great, they're very, very nice and helpful. but! my haircut turned out all LOPSIDED and very UNEVEN, the owner tried to fix it but the girl who was cutting my hair cut, scarlett, cut way too much of my hair already so my haircut turned out a total FAILURE, uneven and way too short. i originally asked her to cut 0.5 inches off but they chopped at least 3 inches off. very disappointed. i got my cut the day before my BIRTHDAY and this completely ruined my birthday. i absolutely REGRET going to this place, i wake up every morning hating my hair. i'm too ashamed of my cut and it's so UGLY and CHOPPY that i put my hair up everyday. i hate this place... don't ever go to this place for haircuts. I look like a MOP. read more

I can't rave enough about this Salon! Brenda gives the best hair cuts (and shampoos)! I highly recommend iSalon to anyone in the Bay that wants great service! read more

This review is long overdue! Back in December, I needed a brilliant change to my hair and wanted to go to a real salon for the first time... on my boyfriend's tab as a Christmas present and was fortunate to have Jordan as my stylist. A week before my appointment, I called to see if she would be able to dye a few streaks periwinkle purple, like Katy Perry in her CA Gurls video. Danny, the fantastic front desk personnel, told me that it would be impossible to get my dark Asian hair that light and brilliantly suggested a free consultation, which came with my appointment. Jordan met with me the Friday before my appointment and patiently answered my list of questions, listened to my concerns, and planned my future pink and blue hairstyle accordingly; it was like she already knew what I wanted!! She also assured me that she could make my hair as low maintenance as possible, as I am a poor college student. After our consultation was over, 45 minutes had passed and I was so gracious that she had spent so much time with me! The day of my appointment, I came in and she got to work on my mess of a head immediately. It was a two step process so it took about 3.5 hours to get my hair dyed and cut. After 5 weeks, my hair was finally beginning to fade. I have since then redyed the easy colored parts over (the difficult ones, I didn't even bother!). There is not a day that goes by that I do not get compliments on my hair and it's all thanks to Jordan!!! I definitely won't be going anywhere else! read more

OMG, I love this place. Read the reviews, and took a chance on a "New" style all together. All I can say is I love it. Jenn is fantastic. She listens to what you want , gives her professional input, and wala, instant perfection. I have wanted a new look foro a long time, each time I come out with a mullet, never again. I have found my ultimate hairstylist. Thanks Jenn for the great cut and style, cant wait to have it colored this weekend. If you are looking for a trendy cool shop, with great people- you have to try isalon and ask for Jenn. you wont be sorry. read more

Just moved to the area and after hearing so many recommendations for I Salon and Linda, I had to make an appointment.... All I can say is if you're looking for a new you or maybe just a better you, head over and book an appt with Linda! This place is awesome! Upon entering, I immediately felt at ease. It's a trendy and cute salon, but not in a superficial snobby Walnut Creek type of way. Everyone is genuinely friendly (GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!) and immediately I was offered coffee (delicious!) or wine! After a long day at work, who doesn't like to feel pampered?! But anyhow, that was just the first ten mins of my appt! So onto my haircut.... I met Linda, and I instantly liked her. She asked me good questions, "how much time do I have to get ready in the morning", "how often would I be able to come in for touch ups," and etc. NOW THAT IS WHAT A REAL STYLIST SHOULD DO! She attentively listened to what I wanted, and she made recommendations. But never once was she pushy, or impatient with me. She had a real understanding of the look I wanted to achieve and I felt she genuinely cared what I looked like after I left the salon. After we talked about my hair, I was treated like a princess! Linda gave me an Ipad to surf the web, and the whole time she refreshed my coffee and gave me the best snacks! Ohhhhh, I am so in love with this salon and so ecstatic I found my new stylist! And, I'm so glad I listened to Linda because the compliments on my new hairstyle have been non stop! What a way to make a girl feel great everyday! =) I am never going anywhere else! read more

I have been meaning to review iSalon for so long now...I used to live in Alameda & now live in Mountain View but still make the trip every time I need anything hair-wise done. I LOVE this place. They have done such a nice job with everything there, even offering ipads - which totally helped me because I was able to google the hair color I wanted & show my hair stylist! How cool is that? Also, I have seen Brenda, Traci, Sandra and most recently Desi. All are fantastic! I've been going back to Desi for awhile now & I love her. She does the most incredible job - I cannot tell you how many compliments I've received since highlighting my hair! Went from brown, to having highlights and now I get compliments left & right. I love iSalon and will make the trip every time. Thanks ladies! read more

Once you get one of their head massages, you're hooked. The first time I got my haircut here by Tracy, I was in heaven. As she walked me over to the shampoo station after my cut (yes, after), I asked her why they give the shampoo after the cut, she replied that it made more sense since you have all the tiny little hairs and they need to be washed out. Seems pretty obvious, but to this day, iSalon is the only place I've had the shampoo after the cut. On to the shampoo - after the typical wash and condition, the fun begins! By fun I mean a 2 minute head massage that is amazing. AMAZING. Seriously, if I was a multimillionaire, I'd come here daily just to get my hair washed. It's that good. I usually see Tracy, but have also gotten cuts from Brenda (the super sweet owner) and most recently Jessica who also do a terrific job with both the cuts and the shampoo! The decor is modern and clean, and they love technology (iPads, beer and water offered while you wait). 5 STAR! read more

So I have been going to Brenda for my eyebrows and she is amazing at that. When my usual colorist up and moved to Reno, yuck, I decided to give Brenda a shot. I'm sure glad that I did! She did an amazing job! And I hate to say it because I love my former colorist, but she actually did a better job. She got the color EXACTLY the way I wanted it. I brought in a picture for reference and I swear it was exact. Thats seriously never happened to me before. BTW I was going even more red than I already was and I know red can be the most difficult color to work with. The only thing, and this is so minute, was that she did quite get the hairs on the side front. You know the ones that are by your ears at the front? Kinda like sideburns. So anywho she forgot to get that part so it kinda looks funny when I wear my hair back because that part is still black and the rest of may hair is shockingly red! But I don't wear my hair back often so its not a big deal and she did such a great job over all. Also I think she missed that part because she was really worried about getting it on my skin which I can appreciate. So yeah...Brenda...She's tops! read more

A bit pricey, but so worth the money! They also have some good discounts for first timers and students! I would definitely recommend this place! I knew somewhat what I wanted done (ombre hair and some kind of haircut), but Nicole gave me some good advice and guidance with what to do with my hair. This is the only place that I have gotten my hair colored and cut, and left feeling good about it! :) read more

I promised Phuong (sp?) that I would write a top notch review after the weekend. I was visiting a friend in Alameda and wanted to get a hair cut for a friend's wedding the next day. Thanks to Yelp I scheduled an appointment with them and had Tracey as my stylist. She knew exactly what I wanted. Almost every other staff person asked me if I was comfortable and what I wanted to drink. Super friendly people. I scheduled a makeup appointment the next day for a wedding just for the hell of it. I found out they use Mac makeup and I wanted to try out the makeup. Phuong was my artist and she pulled me out of my comfort zone and really did a fantastic job on my eye shadow. I was wearing a yellow dress for the event and she incorporated purple, yellow, and a shimmering white to my eyes. She also included fake eyelashes which I've never done before. She made my eyes pop and my friend at the wedding make a comment about how my eyes sparkled! Phuong had me bring in my own Bare Escentuals foundation and she used the Mac liquid foundation then applied my BE foundation over it. She is, by far, the most talented makeup artist I have had the pleasure of working with. She really knows how to work with the shape of your face/eyes and gave me a lot of pointers. I still stick with BE for an everyday look, but for special occasions I think I'll try out Mac on my own because of her. Thanks Phuong! read more

So I was here a few weeks ago to get my hair trimmed and thinned out. I left feeling dissatisfied and wrote a yelp review. I was quickly contacted by the salon 2 days later and was offered to go back to get my hair fixed by Brenda, free of charge. I was hesitant because I didn't want to get disappointed once again, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway since I honestly wasn't happy with my hair. Today,I went back and Brenda did a great job fixing my hair. My hair feels lighter and it turned out great. I honestly didn't expect for this salon to call me back. Through this experience, I learned that the staffs here truly want their customers to walk out satisfied.Thank you for reaching out to me, I salon. Brenda, I appreciate all that you've done even though it maybe just a quick fix for you. Not all salon would offer to have their unsatisfied customers return. You guys are all about customer satisfactions. read more

I am very, very picky and will not trust just anyone to do my hair. Brenda is amazing.... I have been going to her for years. I have followed her from salon to salon, which means she is amazing. She is willing to work with your schedule, and will try to fit you in for an early morning or late evening appointment. She is also very honest and will tell you what she thinks will look good and what won't. I recently took my cousin there and she was able to fix a really bad highlight job done by another salon on Park St. Brenda is worth more than 5 stars, and I will continue going to her FOREVER!!!!! read more

Yelp does it again. Just moved to Alameda and had waited much too long to.get a haircut. Found isalon on yelp, made an online appointment for the next day (Friday!) and went for.my appointment. Jordan greeted me when I walked in and gave me the best haircut I have had in ages! She listened carefully, kept asking if I was OK with how it felt (I cut off about 7-8 inches) and just did a marvelous job! I will definitely be back.... read more

Love this Salon! Brenda and Jordan have been my stylists and they are experts. They make coming to the salon such an enjoyable experience. I started going here because my previous stylist never listened to what I wanted and kept cutting my hair too short. Anybody had this experience? it sucks. These folks listen and care that you walk out happy with your new "do". Brenda's salon was recently damaged in a fire but Brenda is taking care of her customers by renting a chair in another salon and will reopen very soon - like a phoenix rising, the new salon promises to be awesome. read more

I found this salon shortly after moving back to the bay area four years ago. I love it. I have had several haircuts in the past but only trims, nothing too difficult. I recently went in with a picture of some blunt bangs (I have not had bangs for 20 years) that I wanted to try. I walked away with the best look I have ever had. She took the picture but added her own knowledge about my hair type and face shape. She did a wonderful job. Definitely recommend!! read more

This is my very first Yelp because....I love Jordan! I have long curly hair that is fine and there is ALOT of it. She has given me the best haircut and color I've ever had and everyone I refer her to, says the same. She super sweet and genuinely cares about your hair each and every time I go in. I highly recommend her- you will not be disappointed. read more

Kristen did a great job cutting my hair - and one of the best scalp massages I've ever had! 20% discount for first time clients.

love it here! colorist is friendly and staff overall are nice and courteous! the only downside is lack of parking or free parking.

Hair color update. Just had to compliment the ladies on how patient, sweet and professional they all are. Josie and (with a little help from her twin) did my hair. Josie took her time and kept asking me questions along the way to communicate with me. She was so thorough and gave me tips and suggestions on after care. She also gives ah-mazing head massages. ahhhh. I appreciated her honesty about how fast the color would fade, that the bleach would create damage, etc. It took 6 hours and I wasn't feeling the color (I understand that you can't sometimes can't get the right color all in one setting). So I went back. Dinah finished my hair and it's been fading into lovely different shades. Again, Dinah would check in with me to make sure we were on the same page about what I wanted. She, like Josie, was super understanding and an expert. And I love love love the results!! These ladies will work with you to make you 100% satisfied. I appreciate how everyone helps each other out, (Kaitlin came over to help blow dry and another stylist gave her advice on how to color my hair). Thank you iSalon!! will be back soon ;) read more

I've been here twice for a haircut & partial highlights. Both times I've gone with Tracey. She did a great job and delivered exactly what I wanted. She did warn me that if I get red on my jet black hair it wouldn't last. Of course she was correct and it literally washed out within 9days. So when I went back months later I praised her on how right she was & she tweeked it so this time it would last longer. On my 1st visit I received the new customer discount, so helpful as their prices are little steep. My 2nd I didn't mention the "mention Yelp" discount so I missed out on that one. I was kicking myself for that one since that visit I had my 4 yr old daughter's haircut with Brenda (also a great stylist) and the total for both of us came out to be $210 not including tip. I love being pampered here at iSalon. But I do have to remind myself it's a pricey indulgence & I must pace my visits. read more

My fiance works at a photo studio and usually gets free haircuts from a friend of his who is a makeup/hair stylist. Well, the studio he worked at has since closed and he's been in need of a haircut for awhile. He decided that it would be a great idea for me to give him a DIY haircut today. Naturally, I decided to Yelp and discovered all the lovely reviews about iSalon. It's only a few blocks away from our apartment, so I made an appointment. The receptionist was really accommodating and scheduled us in an hour after I made the call. It was a nice walk from our apartment, and when we arrived we were greeted by a group of gorgeous, friendly girls. The salon was very classy, modern, and clean in design. The stylist that cut his hair was Tracy. She was super-nice and gave him an awesome haircut. He was very pleased with his experience. On top of that, they took 20% off the price of a shampoo and cut for him because he was a first time customer. Great salon, great stylists, and great customer service. We will definitely be returning! read more

I am new to Yelp but I went through the whole registration process to provide an objective review on iSalon. After reading some reviews on Yelp about this particular salon and Brenda, I decided to make an online appointment with Brenda. I gave her brief instructions on how I would like my hair and she exceeded all expectations with a classy, young, and professional hairstyle for me. The salon is hip, clean, and projects a comfortable ambiance. I had my hair cut with Alexander Pope and Vidal Sasson before but I am definitely going back to iSalon! read more

Tracy did my bleach highlights and cut my hair . I go to a guy in Berkeley for cut but she seems to be more thorough. For the hike I have to make to Berkeley + parking drama, I am considering switching.I really liked how meticulous the cut was and how she came up w/ solutions for my bleached and chlorine withered hair. She transformed it and made it look shiny and pretty =) Brenda the owner is great too. They take care of you and offer you refreshments too. I think I've found a new home!. Sarah was from another salon and did a good job on another girl's bleach highlights too. Real talents here. read more

Now that I've been here I won't go anywhere else in Alameda! I had a terrible experience last year with a place on Webster. Sandra did my haircut at iSalon and she was friendly and super fast. My hair usually takes over an hour and she did everything in under an hour (but I did not feel like she was trying to get me out the door... she just dries thick hair super fast!) normally i don't review after 1 visit, but I think i'm pretty sold on iSalon! i HATE finding a new salon. i will spend months on google and yelp. i know of every salon in the area. i will stress, anxiously about making an appointment and probably not ever choose one to do it because i am sure to not like my hair (this is nothing new.... ) and i just want to put off the experience. so i moved here 6 months ago and have been perusing the entire east bay, down to SJ, up to walnut creek, out to dublin, for a salon. so of course I come back to iSalons website every now and again, but never made an appointment. a pal went twice and seemed pretty satisfied, so i finally decided i just had to go with something and that was a better reference than most. If it was a half decent cut, it would be worth it because they offer 20% off your first service, and 20% off for students (THANK YOU--that is the coolest thing ever.....i know its just a couple bucks, but when youre a student every little bit helps, and its the gesture that they're willing to do that that will keep me coming back or able to come back sooner!) I finally called, got in same day with Brenda. I was fearful for a moment that I was just going to unload all my anxiety on her despite myself the second my butt hit the chair, but without having to fully explain much she got the message: im growing it out, i hate every cut i get, i hate how it looks when i dont cut it, do NOT give me a soccer mom haircut, why do people keep cutting these layers that look like crap, it has to be cut to wear curly and straight 50/50....she just got it. quick, easy cut, she had good conversation the whole time, she spent probably 4 times longer than necessary with the shampoo massage and it was AMAZING. in the end, it was exactly the cut I try and try to get across to stylists, but i didn't go to hair school so i don't know how to ask for what i want! She entirely fixed the ends, and the layers so they laid just right and couldn't be seen all frizzy. if only she could magically grow out the front layers the last guy cut!! Brenda is definitely my new stylist. Big sigh of relief!! read more

This review is for Diane. I have very curly hair and basically trust only one person in New York to cut it. I live In Oakland and because my hair is short now I need a regular cut. I heard about Diane through a friend and am SO glad I went to her. She gave me an amazing cut. She listened carefully to what I wanted and was able to talk with me about what was possible. I was so happy when I left because I finally found someone out here that I can trust. Furthermore, she is warm, friendly, smart and makes you feel very comfortable. She also gave me color and I can say my hair hasn't looked this healthy in years. Go see Diane! She is the best! read more

My friend recommended this place to me and told me to make an appointment with Kathy. Kathy was so nice! She waxed my eye brows and lip. I would definitely go back to her again. I was happy that the waxing was done in a room, a lot more privacy than this place where I used to get my brow waxed. At the other place, she just had me sit in one of those hair cut chair smack in the middle of her store. Not that the brow and lip waxing needed much privacy, but it was just nice. read more
