I'm a happy loyal customer since June 2019. It's been almost 2.5 years since I moved to LA from SF…read more I have to say that the quality of hair cut & perm you get here is amazing and consistent every single time which I feel very grateful for. I'm pretty picky about my hair, especially because I'm originally from Japan and I have a different hairstyle expectation that you usually cannot get at a U.S. hair salon. That's been said, if you have a typical Asian guy with hair traits like mine (thick & straight), I highly recommend you give it a try at this hidden gem in Monrovia. I cut my hair every 3-4 weeks, and I get a perm once a 3-4 months at Yumi's place. Yes, you read it right, I get a perm. I know getting men's perm is not common in the U.S, but the truth is it's such an undervalued thing here because permed hair is incredibly easy to manage, which is usually not the case for a typical thick straight Asian guy hair. Additionally, Yumi's place has very low covid risk as it's an individually owned salon, and the only person you meet in person is Yumi. She is very careful about maintaining covid sanitization and I feel safe each time I go there. If you have any questions regarding this review, hit me up and I'll happily answer you from my own experience. Happy 2022!

I had to id a new hair dresser (bc I moved) and was so nervous since my previous hair dresser was so wonderful. Carolina was super friendly and welcoming. This was my first time meeting her and she took her time to discuss my hair goals. I shared that my goal is to preserve length but also to maintain its health. I opted for a blunt cut with face framing layers, and she D E L I V E R E D!!! She trimmed the perfect amount and did not leave it short at all. It was the perfect refresh! And, her scalp scrub was 10 out of 10! I've gotten wash & blowouts at other salons, and my scalp will still feel dirty. But, not with Carolina! My scalp felt super clean and she hit some pressure points. The blowout was super pretty. I also talked to her about some minor greys I have and asked about her root touch ups since I was doing them previously. She was so honest and said she didn't recommend it. Instead, she recommended a hair product for cover up from the Style Edit (which she is not sponsored by, does not have a partnership with, & does not sell at her salon. I purchased through Amazon without her giving me a direct link) I've been using that and I'm obsessed! I got to save my coin and I appreciated her honesty. I also asked about glosses (which she happily does) and she recommended continuing my in-shower glossing at home to keep my hair healthy. Carolina's integrity shines. I will keep coming & report back.

Cathy and her team were amazing!…read more From the very start Cathy was very prompt with her correspondence and always happy to answer any question or concern that I had. Her services worked well in our budget and I was thrilled to book her. I did my hair and makeup trial at her home studio and she was so hospitable and offered bottled water to my MOH and I. I enjoyed how she described all the products she used and why. Unfortunately, at the end of the day my greasy/oily skin won supreme and I found myself blotting constantly and always feeling so shiny. Also, although I really liked my hair and it looked like the picture example I showed her... there was something missing that kept me from LOVING it. I shared all my concerns with Cathy and right away she assured me that these worries would be taken care of the day of the wedding. She blew me away! The makeup she applied was flawless! She used different high quality products for oily skin that gave me a matte finish but not leave me feeling cakey. I only had to blot twice from the time of application until the end of the night (10 hours!). For my hair, she took my initial hairstyle that I liked... and added extra texture to the front and side of my head. The extra pinned curls really elevated my hairstyle and the application of fresh flowers from my florist made it everything I ever wanted for my wedding hair. Thank you Cathy for making me feel so beautiful on the biggest day of my life!

When I reached out to her, she told me at first she was pretty sure she was free for my hair/makeup, only to text me later saying she's booked. I asked if she has other dates that are free, as I am very willing to work with her schedule. She said she's completely booked. I called her several times, sent her messages asking her other available times, left messages, none was returned. I even asked if she can refer me to someone else....but she never got back to me..completely ignored me. She honestly could care less about my business. In fact, if you check her website, the website says "As of 8/1/2017, Cathy is completely booked for the reminder of 2017". Are you serious?! From what I can gather, I wonder if it is because the makeup is only for me, rather than for a large party, probably not worthwhile for her to come out on a Sunday morning, not even for a repeat customer....what a shame... That two star is for her previous work..and zero star for this recent encounter.

Yes I was running late and they moved it down that was my fault. But when my sister got there at 10:00 they started asking for one of my nieces saying one of them was suppose to be at 10:15. My sister called me on speaker and Liz was very rude and unprofessional. She totally made my sister feel so uncomfortable on a very important day for her and her daughters. It made me so upset that the start of their big day was ruined by how rude they were being treated and how Liz was yelling at me on the phone. I sent screenshots to my sister so she can show them proof of all our conversations. Liz dismissed it still blaming me. I told my sister here is the text she sent me with prices because I have a feeling she's going to try to charge you more. Sure enough my sister said she tried to charge her more. Upon seeing my nieces to get them in their quinceñera dress I could not believe the makeup that was done on them. I could have done a better job. They slapped sloppy glitter on top of their eyelids and put on cheap eyelashes. Their makeup looked lfar from special and the girls were so disappointed they almost cried. This "beauty bar" is not for a special occasion! Avoid at all cost. You will be disappointed. The makeup artist is nicer than Liz that's for sure but does not do quality work. Pay more for makeup because a cheap price comes with cheap makeup and hair . Update! The business intended to clarify but they are wrong.
