Back in 2021, a family friend referred Elaine to me as my wedding makeup and hair stylist. Due to Elaine's quality of work and her professional responsiveness to my emails, I chose her as my makeup and hair stylist. I scheduled a makeup trial with Elaine for my engagement shoot. The full makeup trial took four hours because Elaine took her time to ensure I was happy with the makeup and hair styles for my big day. A week before my wedding in October 2022, Elaine had sent a reminder email for me and my bridal team to let us know do and don't list to prepare for my big day. I first booked Elaine in 2020! I completed my trial with her in 2020 and did my engagement photos using the hair and makeup there. At our wedding in May 2023, I decided to modify the makeup style to be more peachy/pink vs brown. Elaine did an absolutely amazing job with making my false lashes look natural, making me feel confident, and using tape to form a double eyelid. She made me feel comfortable and even when I was worried about the wedding, she provided calm reassurance. Elaine is super sweet and extremely responsive (usually responding to texts and email within a couple hours and definitely within a day). She also arrived on time and worked with my schedule. I never had to worry about my hair and makeup. I will note that she can be brief over text (which initially felt cold to me) but she is super nice and very easy to work with. I booked her really early to take advantage of the promotion at that time where I get a trial run + day of at a discount and it was such an incredible deal! At trial, she listened to my concerns carefully such as having sensitive skin and not liking too heavy makeup or eyelashes on me. She also did 2 hair styles since I was indecisive during trial. I hired Elaine to do makeup for me, my mom, my mother-in-law and my husband for my wedding in January. I wasn't 100% satisfied after the trial, but I hired her anyway because she has positive reviews, and by that point I was just tired of contacting vendors for our two weddings (one in TC and one abroad). I think things turned okay, but I kind of wish I had gone with my gut and tried out other makeup artists. TRIAL RUN: First of all, I thought it was strange that she never introduced herself to me through email or in person. I only knew her name was Elaine because of all the Yelp reviews I've read. She did two hair styles and one makeup for the trial. She didn't seem very interested in my dress when I tried to show pictures to her, so don't hope for any input from her. I didn't really like how my hair turned out, but she blamed the thickness of my hair. She didn't make any suggestions or try altering it to look nicer since it was already the 2nd hair style so I was a little disappointed. I ended up choosing a simpler hair style for my wedding day. Luckily the MUA I hired for my other ceremony abroad was able to achieve what I wanted! Unlike Elaine, the other MUA actually took the time to get to know me, and we discussed what hair/makeup would go with my dress, shoes, etc. even though I wasn't able to do a trial with her before my wedding day. The contrast between that MUA and Elaine really stands out to me in hindsight, and I regret not trying out more MUA's for my wedding in TC. Overall, Elaine did a good job with my makeup, but I really didn't like that she kind of laughed at my eyebrows. I have thick eyebrows and she said they were "too much" and also commented on how they were uneven and seemed unsure of what to do with them. Even my eyebrows weren't perfect, I think there are better ways of going about it if you are a professional. I felt so self-conscious after the trial that I actually ended up going to an eyebrow waxing salon every month leading up to my wedding to try and get them to look better. Also, as another reviewer pointed out, her makeup kits were very messy/dirty, which made me feel a little uncomfortable. WEDDING DAY: A day or two before the wedding, Elaine texted me to confirm details. She said that her assistant would not be able to come even though I had booked her back in June, but she assured me that she would be able to do makeup for all four people. She was very flexible about time, which I appreciated, and she suggested a good time to start, taking into account when my photographer would be there and when the ceremony would start. Elaine arrived on time and immediately set up and got to work. She was able to do the simpler hair style I chose much better than the one I had her do at the trial, but after she left, I notice crimped parts showing that should've been hidden so that bothered me all night. At least it's not noticeable in pictures. Also, one of the fake eyelashes she had applied was falling off by the end of the night. At least this time, she didn't say anything about my eyebrows, so I guess going to the wax salon paid off. I thought it was strange that she didn't apply ANY powder to my eyebrows, though, since not all of the hairs had grown in completely yet. I wish I had spoken up, but everything was so chaotic that day, I didn't notice until it was too late. Overall I looked okay. It was just the little details that bothered me. She did a far worse job on my husband and our mothers. She literally told my husband before she started that she's not good at doing hair/makeup for men, which kind of put him off. She only applied a thin layer of powder to his face and barely did anything to his hair. She did nothing to hide the flaws he's self-conscious of, and he also had to do his own hair in the end. She should take groom's hair/makeup off her website if she is unable to perform that service. I'm not sure what I paid for. Our moms complained that she didn't really do much makeup on them either. Unfortunately, no one told me how disappointed they were until AFTER I had already paid and tipped her. I really regret that. I also felt weird that she left without telling anyone. I saw her packing up, but since I was running around doing other things, I didn't notice when she actually left and no one else knew that she had left either. I feel like you should tell at least one person that you are leaving before you disappear. You should probably double check that at least the bride is looking her best before you leave. ADVICE: Definitely do a trial run and no EXACTLY what you want. Simple is better. If you are going to hire her, only hire her for bridal makeup. Don't bother with other family members and definitely not the groom. She also didn't apply any skincare on any of us before she started applying makeup so make sure you do your own skincare routine beforehand if you decide to hire her. Also, make sure everyone is satisfied before tipping. read more

Exactly one year ago, Elaine did a fabulous job on my bridal hair and makeup! Her prices are as reasonable as anything "wedding" goes, and it even included airbrush makeup which others were charging extra for. After my hair and makeup trial, I decided to go with something completely different on my big day because I wanted to be more comfortable (all those up-dos require a lot of bobby pins which can become quite uncomfortable after a few hours) and reflect what I normally looked like. I had a special event to go to and our generous coordinator booked a few of us appointments at Elaine's studio. When I got there ( I was the earliest) at noon on a Sunday, Elaine was already there with her makeup set up. She has a huge cart of the stuff and looked very organized and well-prepared so I felt good about getting a new face painted on. She has a studio booth area but had me seated at a spot near the window since it was bright and sunny, natural lighting always being the best. We went over what I needed for the event (heavier make-up, a more dramatic effect because it was being filmed) and then she got to work. I'll admit I wanted to steal down the names of some of the products she was using. There was a pink tube of moisturizer or primer that felt fantastic on my skin and worked miracles getting everything to blend and set. At first I was skeptical of the idea that makeup could possibly take 2 hours but Elaine really worked her stuff. She proposed that we do one look and then tweak it a little, before deciding on which I would actually keep for the event. She custom matched my skin color on a palette and took her time working out my "problem areas". She even made my eyelids match with tape! (I felt like a Non-no girl, hehe.) She noted that I should comb out my brows better to keep them growing in the same direction and then showed me how she was drawing them to even them out. Elaine really worked hard and she made sure to blend everything down to my neck, paying attention to little details that made me feel like she cared about the finished product as much as I did. She had me up in these big rollers which did amazing things to my hair and showed me her collection of extensions and hair accessories. So many goodies! When I asked, she said that a lot of brides actually don't have their own hair decore or jewelry and so she lends them out occasionally when she does their design. My favorite part was the airbrushing, because I'd never had it done before. She had a kit that she plugged in and used to smooth everything over. (She also said that she did airbrushing at the end because it made the make up not as "heavy" as if it were done for the whole thing.) It must have helped with setting the make up too because man, that thing lasted through a lot of heat, sweating and running around later that night. I'll post a photo of the make up after a hot day's worth of work- (note that this make up was intentionally a bit heavier because of filming, however, it wasn't cakey or thick feeling at all like some other places.) I liked all the colors she used and she did a lot of customizing to work with what looks good with your skin and clothes. The regular price for these things are $190, I believe? The full bridal package is more expensive although you can always go cheaper with one of her team's other make up artists. Elaine was professional, friendly and had a great personality- she didn't make me feel like a guinea pig but also gave her honest opinion and suggestion on what would be best for my face. After she was done she even said for me to take note of what I liked and didn't like so that on my wedding day she could make adjustments. She took her time in doing both hair and makeup. I don't have too much hair. To give my style more volume she suggested using some fake hair which she would let me borrow during the wedding day. She also let me borrow a hair piece as embellishment. I just needed to leave a deposit and pick up the hair piece a week prior to the wedding day. After returning the pieces she returned me my deposit. Each curl was pinned very carefully. When she didn't like how something looked she would redo it. Same went for the makeup. I have uneven eyes. When it came to forming my eye shape and applying the fake eyelashes she tried multiple times, getting just the right look to her satisfaction. During the trial she used whole eyelashes pieces. They didn't stay for very long and I was leaning towards more individual lashes. I returned to her for my hair and makeup for the engagement shoot. At that time I asked to trial smaller sections of lashes. She agreed to try and it felt more comfortable and stayed on longer. On the day of the wedding she looked at a photo I had taken from the trial and replicated with changes here and there that I mentioned to her. My friend was hanging out with me as I got ready. She even made a comment on how meticulous Elaine is, taking her time doing things just right. Elaine had suggested adding braids in my hair. Elaine was extremely professional. Over the phone, my wife agreed with Elaine for a package deal for $1,230 which include the bridal makeup and hair ($570, including trial), and $110 for each additional makeup and hair service for other people. She also gave us a discount if we wrote a yelp review. My wife and my mother-in-law went to the engagement trial. Elaine was very meticulous with my hair. Jenny showed her a style of hair that she liked. Elaine was able to copy the hairstyle very well and adjusted as she went. The hair part took about an hour and a half. She then did Jenny's makeup. Again, Jenny showed her a style that she liked and Elaine tried her best to copy it and improve upon it. Elaine was able to do so and also showed Jenny different types of eye lashes and other accessories that Jenny could borrow on the wedding day. After giving Elaine's information to our wedding coordinator, A Touch Of Lavender (Check my reviews!), Elaine and an additional hairdresser and additional makeup stylist showed up on time to do the makeup for Jenny, her 3 bridesmaids, and my mom and sister. The team knew exactly knew what they were doing. Elaine worked exclusively on Jenny's makeup and hair, while the makeup artist and hair dresser tag teamed each other on the rest of the people involved. The hair and makeup on our bridesmaid was perfect, very elegant, and well done. My sister and mother both commented that they felt like their makeup really made them feel beautiful and young! Elaine did my hair and makeup for my wedding recently. I had a trial (makeup only) session with her, then later I also had her do my hair and makeup for an engagement photo session. Elaine noticed dryness in my skin, so she made recommendations on how to avoid the dryness so that the makeup would stay on better. For my wedding, she also did my sister's hair and makeup, and my mom's makeup. She arrived at the venue on time (unlike me) and had loads of supplies and tools with her for any need. I showed her a picture of my desired hairstyle, because I wanted a slight change from what she'd done before, and she was able to get the hair done perfectly. I also wanted to change the lipstick color slightly and asked for her advice, and that also came out just right. What I like about Elaine is that she can create a very natural look that's also very flattering. This is key for me, since I never wear makeup and didn't want something heavy that wouldn't fit me. Also, I notice that sometimes brides have such heavy layering of makeup that it cakes up and creases, but Elaine's makeup had a light touch with just the right amount of coverage and never caked up or creased. She also left me a touchup kit, which I used at one point to powder my face and refresh the cheek color. She also lent me a veil and a decorated headband. My mother-in-law loved Elaine's work so much that she wanted our photographer to take a close-up of me so that she could ask the makeup artist at the location for our second reception to do the same thing for me. My family and I were so pleased with Elaine's work, plus she's really nice and easy to work with, which are so important when you're already under wedding planning stress! Many of our guests said I looked amazing and like a movie star at the wedding. I had no problems with the makeup looking fresh (the only time I had to touch it up was when I got slightly sweaty from taking pictures outdoors, and then all I had to do was add some powder and a little blush). My hair looked great all day and night too, and people kept asking where I got my hair done. FYI, to help you locate the business: this business is located in a garage behind a residence. Detail oriented, patient. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. She was meticulous with eyeliner, brows, color, hair volume. She also cut up the eye lashes and applied them piecewise for more realism! I will surely use her again. Elaine did a great job with my hair & makeup for my wedding last month! I especially received a lot of compliments on my hair. After our trial a few months before, I let her know that I wanted a little less foundation so that my makeup didn't look like it was cake-y in person, even though I understand that it's for photos. However, she definitely kept that in mind for the actual wedding and it turned out great! Her team also did hair for my bridesmaids which came out nice as well - see photos. Her prices are reasonable. My only concern was that she did not spend that much time on my mom's hair/makeup and she didn't feel "pampered" (although to Elaine's credit, my mom didn't say anything to me until after Elaine had already left). I did a trial at her studio first, the style turned out to be too dramatic and overdone for my taste, I requested a redo, looked up a lot of more natural styles that I wanted and went back again and she did it more to my liking. So I would suggest going in knowing exactly what you want and bringing a lot of examples from the internet.
