I came to Chiali the way that I think many people tend to, in desperation after a horrible trial to find a great hair and makeup artist. We actually heard of Chiali through my mom's coworker who looked super gorgeous on her wedding day. I immediately contacted Chiali on the spot, hoping hoping she'd have availability. And thankfully she did! One of the reasons why my wedding day was so fun, so stress free was because of Chiali and Felicia. They both went above and beyond for both the trial and the wedding itself to make myself, my mom, and my now mother in law feel stunningly beautiful. I was so glad to not only look myself after hair and makeup (I have an aversion to both since I never look quite right with makeup and hair done; I either look super old, trashy, or straight up scary). My go to is simply eyeliner, and chapstick for every day, and I did get my hair permed a year and a half ago so that I'd never have to spend more than 5 minutes on my hair in the mornings. Chiali even helped me extend my look by teaching me how I can braid my hair sideways for other styles when I have dress changes. She gave me a bit of foundation on a sponge (since I don't own foundation), and turns out, I didn't even need it! Chiali kept true to her promise: she made me look like an enhanced, beautified version of me! My hair was everything I had dreamed of and more, it was romantically flowy, and somehow lasted the entire night. My makeup did not give at any point even after shedding a few tears during the toasts. The makeup felt light, and even with falsies, I forgot they were even on my face as soon as I left Chiali's studio. People were amazed that they weren't my own lashes. Her services are pricier than I had originally intended to pay, but seriously, looking back, I'm sooo glad I didn't cheap out, and she's so worth it. She's done probably every wedding you can think of, and she's incredibly talented at what she does. Even my supremely picky Asian mom left Chiali all smiles. Chiali made me feel at ease even during minor setbacks like an electrical short first thing in the morning in her studio, and then having to get my stepdad to rush and get us baby's breath for my hair. This review is long overdue. I had Chiali as my wedding makeup artist 11 years ago, and she literally made me feel and look so amazing as a bride (excuse my bragging). We are talking about make up, hair, and an unforgettable experience! I was introduced to Chiali through a friend who is also a MUA. If another MUA recommends her, that means a whole lot! Chiali knows what she is doing and I was able to trust her every single step of the way. She is experienced with really sensing what the client wants but also knowing what the client needs to look flawless! I was actually very worried because I had an unfortunate accident at my hair dresser couple of days before the wedding. I was changing the color of my hair and the bleach burned my forehead leaving an unfortunate scar on my forehead. But Chiali covered that right up and nobody was even able to tell that I had the scar. I also had a very bad allergic reaction on my neck that left a very awful scar and red puffy grossness (I know, everything awful happening all at once) but Chiali covered that right up no problem! 10 stars (beyond talented) - I can't say enough about how much I love Chiali!! When I got engaged and was searching for a venue (ended up at Sunstone Villa), I made sure that Chiali was available for my wedding date (she books up early!!). It was so important for me to get her to do my hair and make-up because I had seen her work on brides at so many weddings before. If you are going to spend so much money on a photographer and videographer, I figure you should look your absolute best! I had assisted wedding planners on over 15 weddings and was lead planner on 2 myself. Chiali was the only make-up artist that I had met who made brides really shine to their best potential on their wedding day. The brides still looked like themselves (the make-up wasn't caked on), but somehow she was able to enhance their beauty to make them look stunning! One of my huge issues was that I have dark circles under my eyes. I had been a bridesmaid in a lot of weddings before where the make-up artists put concealer under my eye and it ended up looking even worse - very, very ashy. Chiali knew exactly what to do to fix this with the right color correcting concealer and actually provided me with the details after my wedding so I could use it every day. SO creative - she is able to create beautiful pieces of art with your hair. If you want elegant, she knows how to give you an elegant and classic up-do. If you want romantic, she knows how to create a very romantic and soft look. For my wedding, rather than investing in 2 dresses, I invested in Chiali creating 2 looks for me. For first look/family pictures and ceremony, I wanted a classic, elegant up-do. During cocktail hour, she stayed and recreated my hair into a romantic up-do and changed my make-up so that it was a bit smokier for night time all within 25 minutes. She's incredibly creative and is able to work quickly to create the exact looks that you want and makes suggestions to help guide you if you don't know what you want. She's a trend setter and not a follower (check out her Instagram @chialimengartistry). Also, she's super talented with make-up. She has a way of putting on fake eyelashes that makes them lighter. I have had my make-up done by other artists where my eyes feel droopy from the weight, but Chiali somehow made my eyes look bigger. She focuses on the shape and how to make your eyes proportional to your face! I admit I am really picky and am the type of person who will stare at a piece of hair if I feel like it's out of place or my eye shadow if I think one side has more than another. I trusted Chiali and every time I had a thought, she would look at me in the mirror and change exactly what I was thinking without me saying a word. She really knows and sees "perfection" and "beauty" so I feel like you can trust her to make you look amazing! My friend also got married back in February and used Chiali's senior Fefe for her wedding and really loved her hair and make-up as well. They are all so talented so you can trust her team to take good care of you and your bridesmaids on your wedding day. I booked Chiali as my hair and make up artist for my wedding day. She has worked on several brides that I know and I really liked how she did their hair/make up. It is true what she says...she can create anything from simple to elegant and classy. I booked her a year in advance because I know that she gets busy and I've heard of how she had to turn people down because she wasn't available. Chiali is very sweet and nice. During my trial session, I brought a picture of how I wanted my hair to be (it was a hairstyle that she had done on a previous client). When she finished, I LOVED the outcome and absolutely couldn't wait for my wedding day to see the look put together with my dress. Fast forward to my wedding day....3 hours spent in the makeup chair and I came out a transformed woman! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the way my hair and make up came out. It was definitely more detailed than my trial session (which I didn't mind as I loved my trial hair) and the make up was on point. I received a lot of compliments throughout the day. I went to Chiali because she was recommended by a friend that did her makeup for her wedding Before going into detail, I just want to say I am a makeup junkie. Although I can wear makeup and feel comfortable, I can go without and feel confident. I also want to mention that I am extremely knowledgeable about cosmetics and skincare. I love trying new products and my own stash at home is HUGE. I also know a shitload about the application methods and photography makeup. With all that being said... I was extremely happy with Chiali and her assistant. Although I was slightly unsure after the trial, I went with her anyway. Comparing what happened during trial and the day of, I would say she used a number of different products on me. However, I was much happier on the day of than in trial. I loved communicating with her. It wasn't hard to tell her exactly what I wanted and she achieved it. The products she used on me were also good stuff. I also loved what she did with my hair. I had my own hair extensions and cosmetics to retouch so I did not have to put a deposit for that. I was also extremely pleased that my makeup and hair lasted all day. Chiali and her assistant started at 7am and everything lasted until the end of the night when I showered and took everything off. I forgot cost but trial was $180 (without tip) and I remembered there was a travel fee to my location of $100 (OC). Chiali was very on time and extremely nice. I thought she was a perfectionist with her work. On the day of, she did my makeup and her assistant did my hair. However, she would have the assistant move over so she can perfect her work. I always know Chiali will be my hair and make up artist for my wedding day! I knew her from one of the wedding few years ago and she totally transform the bride to a different level! I was very lucky because Chiali is the best in California I have to say. I heard she gets very popular throughout the years and famous studio would look for her for their company marketing shootings. My wedding was Feb 22nd, 2020 and I booked her last year around April, 2019. I was early enough to schedule with her and paid deposit right away even though I haven't had the try out yet. I had my try out trial at her cute studio, she also did lashes extension, it was a cute place. Chiali is a very good observant and she knows your needs right away by simple conversation, she makes you comfortable and you would able to communicate with her easily by telling her what and how you do your normal make up. Of course I am very satisfied, my eyes are super hard to do make up because I have tried other artist, none of them is able to do what Chiali did for me. Her skill is amazing and products are professional and clean. Chiali also would suggest what kind of hair and hair color I need to prepare for the day of wedding, she responses very quickly and always asking for pictures after my hair is colored so that she can prepare if anything would happen. During the day of wedding I booked for 1 bridesmaid, 2 moms for make up and hair, and you guys all know how picky or difficult moms could get. They are very patient and efficient. All brides who are looking this post, you gals no need to worry about a single thing because Chiali team is so professional and can change looks right away. Wedding makeup: I had trial makeup with two makeup artists before I went to Chiali. I have very heavy hooded eyelids, and it's kinda tricky to make it bigger. The first makeup artist did the wing thing with some shadows (and she's an asian makeup artist too!) It baffled me. My brother saw me and said.. yeah.. you look kinda weird. The second makeup artist.. just no. She wanted to enhance my nonexistent brow bones.. for what? I dunno. She told me that from the sound of it, it's better if I do my own makeup. I was thinking she was right... but ... I gave it one last shot.. I was thinking.. no someone ought to know how to do my eyes! I found Chiali awhile back thru my lighting guy's website. I emailed her but never followed thru. I was so lucky. She had planned a trip and canceled last minute in August, so she was available for my wedding day. (Now I know, she typically gets booked like a year in a advance). I went in for a trial makeup and hair. And when she was done.. for the first time ever, I felt pretty. Like.. I like my face without makeup.. but she made me.. vavavavoom! (she scotch taped my heavy hooded lids to create double eyelids. Sacre bleu! I know...) Booked her right there and then. She did an even more amazing job on my wedding day, paying special attention to contouring my face for depth. So people talk about how amazing Chiali is with makeup. But this woman is The Master of Updos! Seriously, if you're looking for wedding updos, just check out her website. Even just for inspiration or ideas. Google images cannot produce amazing updos she can do. She crimped, she teased, she attached two extensions in my hair.. and what I got from ppl was.. "her hair is so pretty. Is it all hers?" And nobody talks about her sweet personality. She's a funny gal. Like.. she's quiet, but she giggles so cute to my brother's comments about toilet babies, and jerry springer shows. She's just the most gentle and patient creature. I hired her to retouch my makeup and a second hairstyle for my wedding day too. Because of my coordinator's timeline.. I was sooo late. Like.. an hour late! She was supposed to go home by seven. I rushed to the bridal room at 7:30, she was still waiting for me. She wasn't even annoyed... at all. She was her sweet self, with the curling iron ready.. and she said.. it's ok, I called my husband. I know it's your big day. And there's no shortcuts with her. She took half an hour retouching my hair. It was so pretty.. I went from a beehive tiara and veil, to loose waves with orchid pinned on the side. She curled it... and arranged every piece. She hugged me before I left too. Trying to make it seem ok that I made her wait so long. So in summary, she's as good as it gets (I'm serious, check out her before and after pics.. she makes aliens look human), she's a master of updos, and she's funny in a gentle way. She takes no shortcuts.. you are her project at that moment.. a blank canvas she takes care in painting. Is she pricey? You see, Chiali is like the French Laundry... you're lucky if you get to book her. My sister met her.. Also fell in love with her.. My sis enters pageants you see.. and Chiali does pageant makeup.. so if you think, on your wedding day you can do your own makeup.. you can't do it like Chiali can.. she specializes in makeup for cameras.. but for some reason, also making you feel so pretty in person too.. a rare talent!
