We had a delightful experience at the Iron Skillet. I didn't know what to expect when we first walked in- the atmosphere is very unassuming, a small town diner feel. We were greeted promptly and cheerfully. The owner (or manager, I'm not sure which) was very friendly- gave our kiddo a balloon and made an origami frog that could leap! He also greeted locals by name and knew their usual order- this to me shows a great sense of community and care. The waitress was sweet- she typically worked night shift- but I'm glad she was there for our meal- her service and attention to detail was outstanding. The wait for the food was reasonable for what we ordered, and the food came out hot and perfectly cooked. The portion sizes were very generous. My husband and son got the French toast breakfast. We brought 8 slices of French toast home with us. I'm also a crispy bacon lover, so asking for it extra crispy and getting extra crispy bacon was a huge bonus. Let's not forget the coffee was hot and fresh! The cleanliness was top notch. We used the bathrooms in the attached Petrol station next door. Everything smelled clean, and looking at corners and baseboards, they were actually kept tidy and maintained. I was able to use one of the bathrooms that are typically reserved for traveling truckers- it was very nice. The building is an older style, but it is well preserved- I can tell the owners take pride in the place. Located in the Petro station, it is actually a full restaurant with table/booth seating. Reminds me a little of Denny's or Huddle House. Menu has some light lunch or breakfast options as well as comfort foods. Hubs ordered the onion rings for a starter. Didn't appear hand cut or battered but were still decent. Looks like many people order online for pick up as it got pretty busy with people were coming in for orders but the seating area wasn't busy. All servers were knowledgeable of the menu and interactive. Leisha was amazing and had been here 25 years. Moms rarely get to eat first and when she brought out the food she made sure I was served first. Food was outstanding and exceeded my expectations on all levels--flavor, presentation and temperature. The restaurant was clean and the gas station was clean. Since it is inside a truck stop setup you could do some laundry real quick if needed. Been a few years since I was here and they updated their menu and looks like they got rid of their soup and salad bar. (Thanks, Plandemic) But we met my son here for lunch and the food is still solid. My favorite items used to be the french toast and pancakes, but I seem to have developed a wheat allergy over the years, so I went with corned beef hash with Sunnyside eggs and hash browns. Delicious. I think they added onion powder to the hasbrowns. Pretty good! Hubby and son both got burgers and were very satisfied. Given this place is about 2 hours(ish) north of Tampa and about 2 hours (ish) away from Jacksonville, we will be meeting up for lunch often. Was passing through on my way to Atlanta so I swung in for breakfast. I am glad I did. Ordered the new corned beef hash item on the menu. Came with generous helping of corned beef hash, well cooked scrambled eggs, hash browns and an English muffin, all cooked just right. The manager, Scott, came up and chatted with me for a bit. I watched him work the room like a pro. You don't find too many well managed grill-type restaraunts anymore but this is that unicorn. The service from the waitress was spot on a well. So all in all, if you're in the area and looking to grab a bit while travelling, this is a good spot to do it. Oh, and a side note...it seems to be a truckers spot so the bathrooms were very clean and they have a shop next door if you want to pick up a few items to take on the road. Meh! Nothing to write home to mama about. The breakfast buffet bar was lacking food, it was dirty, and unattended. The server did not keep it stocked with fresh food as most buffet offerings looked stale and old. I typically take a couple of trips to a buffet but one was more than enough. The restaurant was moderately busy, not extremely busy so I couldn't understand the negligence. I just didn't enjoy it at all. I'm sure we may have come on a bad day because my husband always speaks highly of Iron Skillets when he's on the road. Perhaps l'll order from the menu next time. read more

We stopped here for lunch and the food was really delicious. I had the chicken with special sauce sandwich without the bun by choice and fries. He had biscuits and gravy , eggs and a side of bacon. His bacon was too hot to take the first bite and a nice amount of sausage in the gravy. My fries were very hot too, just like I like them. First visit of many to come. Went with a group of seven and were easily accommodated. The waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. Service was quick. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable with local horsey decor. Conveniently just off I-75 between Ocala and Gainesville. Menu is country style comfort food and very reasonably priced for the quality of the food served. All the entrees we tried were delicious and well prepared home style cooking. No complaints from anyone in our group and all are eager to return. FYI, it's part of a large truck stop with convenience items and has a nice gift shop to wander through. read more

The entrance to the diner is also the entrance to the shop. It's a commercial type diner so the food is your typical type of commercial restaurant foods (ex: Denny's, IHOP, Perkins, etc.). But, what I really want to spotlight is the service! I'm not sure if he owns or manages but he is a great guy. His name is Scott. He always made sure our table was doing well and has great sense of humor. His interacting with the regulars and us, complete strangers, made us feel very welcomed. I had been a customer of Iron Skillet a very long time ago but had since forgot about it. Fellow Yelper Francisco paid them a visit a couple of times and raved to me how incredible the food and service was so of course I had to recheck them out. So I went to pay them a visit and then I came back - again, again and again. Yes it had become that good! Interior: The theme of the restaurant is birds and fish all in inviting pastel colors. The seating has several different options. Counter service for those that may want a faster and more casual service. Usually this is popular for truck drivers that want to grab something quicker. A lrge dining room comprised of attractive, comfortable booths. In the back is a secondary dining room that can be used for large parties or overflow of customers. Food: The menu is primarily southern comfort food as well as some standards. No doubt there is something for everyone. Their breakfast items are available all day. Sometimes they have a second menu which is always sort of a specialty limited time menu. Aside from the menus there is always a buffet available. One for breakfast that ends at 11:00 am. After that it's a dinner buffet for the rest of the day. The hot buffet specializes in one type of food daily. I.e. BBQ. roast beef, seafood, etc. Of course there are a variety of sides to choose from. With the hot buffet comes the salad bar with all types of salads on it. Included are two soups and a dessert bar. Every holiday there is an appropriate special meal. Service/Management: All of the servers are local down home gals. They're kind, knowledgeable and are always checking to see how you're doing. I have never received poor service. The management are a special kind of folk. GM Scott is always visiting the tables, loves fawning over the babies and playing with the children. He is always hustling non stop at multi tasking. He's helping out on the buffet and cleaning when needed. Asst. Mgr. Matt is also helpful by visiting the tables. I've probably eaten 2/3 of the menu and everything has been spectacular with the exception of a couple of hiccups. Most impressive is the buffet which starts at 12.99. As the pans of food on the buffet run low, they do not add to that older food a most places do but rather switch out the entire pan with new food.
