In the first consultation and planning meeting we had, Ricardo was incredibly helpful in helping us understand what floral arrangements would work best for different sites in our venue, optimizing for flower availability, our planned aesthetic and theme for the wedding, and how the weather conditions during our wedding day might impact the look and longevity of our flowers. During our in person visit, he was also meticulous in helping us better understand what our options were for vases and table scapes - certainly not an easy feat given how picky I am. The day of the wedding, Ricardo sent me previews of my wedding bouquet, making sure it was exactly how I hoped it would look before the flowers were delivered to the venue. Throughout the entire process, Ricardo assured me that he and his team would take care of everything, and that I wouldn't have anything to worry about during the wedding day. I've been wanting to come back and give my rating for a bit here it is. First of all he said "Grooms usually don't come to the meeting". I didn't think much of it till later.. He cancelled on a meeting due to weather and rescheduled, we had to reschedule he was upset. He had a very dismissive attitude and not easy to deal with after the deposit was made. We got in a little bit of a crunch on time and we decided on the type of flowers finally and he said "you're going to get Downtown LA flowers" we got into a full blown argument over the phone shouting and talking over each other. His business etiquette needs a lot of help. This is the most important day for people and once you give him a deposit he runs up the rudeness to 100%. At first he seems ok, but it defiantly changed. I'll start this review by saying I booked with Ricardo, the owner of Irises Designs, before hiring my wedding planner. I lived in Riverside at the time and wanted to work with a local business. Worst mistake I made in my wedding planning journey. Our experience with Ricardo as our wedding florist was nothing short of a nightmare. From the beginning, he was pushy and dismissive of my vision, often making arrogant comments like, "I'm the professional, I should know what I'm talking about." When I couldn't name a specific flower or didn't know it was difficult to work with, he'd act condescending instead of working with me to understand my style and preferences. We scheduled a sample appointment about a month before the wedding, expecting to see an actual arrangement. Instead, there was nothing prepared. When we asked about the sample, he gaslighted us, saying that was a separate appointment and that he would need to order flowers first. Trying to give him the benefit of the doubt, we set up another appointment. The day arrives and he calls to say he's running late because he's picking up the flowers, something that should have been done well before our meeting! When he finally sent us a photo, it wasn't a sample arrangement but simply the flowers thrown into a vase. When I asked if this was supposed to be the sample, he suddenly backtracked and said it was just to "show me the flowers." Mind you, this was weeks before my wedding!! At that point, I decided I wanted nothing to do with him on my big day, regardless of the thousands of dollars we were about to lose. We politely told him our expectations were not being met and requested a partial refund, which he agreed to. It has now been several months, and despite multiple attempts to follow up, he has completely ignored us. Thankfully, our wedding planner stepped in and recommended a wonderful florist who, from the first appointment, came prepared with vision boards and a true sample arrangements only a week after we booked with her. She even said our experience with Ricardo was definitely not normal and very concerning. I would never recommend Irises Designs to any bride or anyone looking for a professional, reliable, and respectful vendor. Ricardo made an already stressful process significantly worse. We had decided to use Irises for our wedding day florist. We had our initial meeting with Ricardo. We told him what our vision was for our wedding day. He's done multiple weddings before, but as he's trying to pull up pictures of what he's done before, scrolling thru dozens if not hundreds of pictures on the screen, it caused me to have a headache. Not only that, but his dismissive attitude was really off-putting. There's a difference between someone who is very chill and go with the flow versus someone who us just blowing you off and going with their own thoughts and ideas. He was trying to be personable but he came off as aloof and distasteful. Also with us paying a premium price for his service and the convenience of him setting everything up at Padua he was very forgetful. We had to remind him on multiple occasions what we had discussed in our previous meetings. Which is like..... ok I'm paying you all this money, I shouldn't have to remind you what we're doing...... I guess being referred to as a preferred vendor for a venue gives them the right to charge a higher price to provide mediocre service. He sent us sample pictures of our venter peices. And he sent it to us using mauve linens. Which we had to pay an extra couple hundred bucks since the venue did not have that exact color. Which is fine, I don't mind spending extra to reach our vision. But imagine on the day of the wedding, the table linens were not mauve, instead they were black. Which the venue could've done and we wouldn't have to pay extra. So we paid extra for linens that weren't even correct. We called him out on it, but he said according to the contract it said black linens. Which we didn't pay attention too, which is our bad, but in conversation via text (proof, which we sent him), we had expressed our desire to go with the mauve linens, and that we were ok with paying extra for them. So his lack of double checking and being careful caused us to pay extra for something we didn't get.... Ultimately though, the flowers were beautiful. The centerpieces were amazing. The corsage, boutonnieres, bridal parties flowers and the brides flowers were all beautifully. No one knew about the messed up linen colors except for us, so that was ok..... But shouldn't they though, seeing that were paying do much for them? But in the future I'd rather go with the florists in downtown LA, who can get the same flowers at a cheaper price. And who actually listens to your vision as suppose to meshing their agenda with your vision at a premium price. I saw irises designs at a bridal expo. Their flowers were beautiful and they offered a wonderful opportunity for attendees to make a small bouquet of flowers. My family and I combined ours in the photo below. I loved that they offered that service. However, I did not enjoy my family and I being treated poorly. Ricardo treated my family as if we had cut the people in line, when in actuality we were at the front of his booth before a line even formed behind us. He told me I cut the two ladies in front of me when I was just looking at the options to choose from. I wasn't forming a bouquet to cut in front of them and have mine wrapped first. What he doesn't know is the ladies in front of me were already receiving assistance from his employees who were wrapping their flowers. So how could I have possibly cut them? He then makes a snarky remark saying "Oh looks like there are two lines forming" referring to my family waiting with me. He proceeds to look at me and say "you're a tricky one aren't you?" What is that supposed to even mean??? I felt very uncomfortable and sad about what happened because he made me feel like I was being a malicious person. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND Ricardo is a rip off! WE WERE VERY disappointment from Ricardos unsatisfactory level of service he provided to us. I have expected much more from a prestigious florist and preferred vendor of the Mission Inn and reputed company of your standard. We paid over $5,000 for dead flowers, missing items that we paid for in our contract etc... When working with Ricardo we were very clear on what we wanted and our vision from meeting day 1. We built a trust with and felt completely safe knowing he was going to give us what wanted and understood our vision. When we met for our sample we loved it, the arrangement was large and full and had the color scheme we wished for. We sat down and talked and expressed we wanted more exotic and premium floral etc. and he told us of course that we will include what's in season and ensure there's exotic floral. On July 21, 2021 at 1:00 pm I had a telephone conversation regarding some of my concerns with flower selection since we are paying for premium flowers at the cost of $302.50 per centerpiece. As the invoice states Full flora to include premium flora and some exotic accent. I felt after some miscommunication and the telephone conversation we were good to go and cleared up the situation. We had our final meeting with Ricardo in November to finalize details and our vision. We also talked about a vision for the guest name board. During our conversation we talked about the flower selection one more time and you expressed everything was available including exotics we wanted and premium flowers. Come wedding day we were disappointed the minute we said I do and walked out and realized there were not arrangements on the cocktail tables that we paid for $220 for 5 at $44 a piece. I had to run into the Spanish art gallery and grab candles and put them on the tables to add something to a plain table. There were no candles add to our guestbook table and no greenery on our guest board. My mood instantly changed as details that we paid for and discussed were not done and now me as the groom are doing things to make it look right. We did our first look and instead of being excited and in aww as we expected we were disappointed.  THERE WAS NO WOW FACTOR FOR US AT THIS POINT. The centerpieces were nowhere near as full as our example. There was over 50% of greenery rather than premium and exotic flowers. Some of the flowers looked dead and droopy and they were many empty spots. There were nowhere near enough flowers that we should have gotten for the premium price we paid. There was supposed to be jasmine vine hanging and mint accent which there was not. The hydrangeas were wilted and almost dead. We were embarrassed and felt ashamed that our guest was going to see this. As a guest looking up the centerpiece was small and full of greens and looked empty. For our sweetheart table we paid for a premium garland and it was nothing like the pics we choose even at our last visit. Our table had two spray arrangements with maybe 20 flowers each. We paid $575 for a premium garland and got almost all greenery and two spray arrangements. I asked for mix lanterns down the stair case and I was very clear with the candles and it had votive all the way down. The only flowers add were from the peau that we paid a separate amount for. Being in the industry and knowing flowers, design and price makes us very disappointed. Many brides/grooms/customers might not know things to look out for or notice but we do. BRIDES AND GROOMS MAKE SURE YOU ARE PROVIDED WITH EVERYTHING YOU PAID FOR. I know its a busy day and special but if you paid for something you should get it. luckily I noticed and told him or we would of never got any money back! I reached out to Ricardo via email twice so we can speak about this issue and figure out a solution. His response was inconsiderate knowing the service he provided and horrible quality of flowers. He was too busy decorating the mission inn for christmas the same weekend as our wedding. His response is below. Thank you for your letter and notes. I appreciate every single one of my clients and I am so happy you guys made us part of your special day. As requested I went ahead and refunded your cocktail tables you did not see. I instructed my assistant to not post any more of your event photos or videos. It has been a very busy office and she was just going thru our photos not aware of your concerns. Hired Irises Designs for my wedding event. I paid in full $6,195.39 prior to event, expecting their service to be amazing. We met in person with Ricardo and discussed with details what we wanted, as far as colors, bouquet shapes, flower arrangement, ect. Our wedding planner set up a full day of florist appointments for us and Irises Designs was our first stop. After meeting with Ricardo we were so pleased that we canceled all our other appointments! In our meeting we basically told Ricardo what type of flowers we liked, what our theme colors were and our budget. He then began to make our dream wedding come true. I'm sure you know that a bride will change her mind 100 times before she knows exactly what she wants so Ricardo and I went back and forth through email/text about any changes that I wanted. He was so accommodating and was always very prompt to respond. Our wedding arch was absolutely stunning with the chandelier, it was probably my favorite thing at the wedding. I am an Instagram celebrity with a million followers and reached out to Irises designs for a collaboration to promote their services on my page in exchange for their flowers at a small event. OMG! Are you Serious!!?? Roses were delivered in a box with ONE tissue paper wrapped around them and they did not even have a courtesy to tie the roses nicely with a ribbon inside the box!! Presentation sucks! -- STRIKE 1 If these long stem roses were like other long stem roses, I would have been ok, but a few layers of petals (not just the outermost layer) have the edges literally black as if someone torched them. Quality Sucks! (could have gotten better roses from Costco!) -- STRIKE 2 Since it was a gift, I said to myself that I better made the most out of it, so I cut the bottom of the stems diagonally and looked for the powder package (flower food), and there's none (What kind of a cheap flower place does not give you the powder with the flower???) It's not there, so ok, I said I would just keep changing water everyday. The next day, my roses were looking pretty sad, so I cut the bottom of the stems once more and changed the water once more. 46 hours into it (two days later), roses were dying and all of them (not exaggerating) drooping down. They are not even straight up anymore!!! I have never gotten roses in my life time dying in two days!!!! --STRIKE FREAKING 3 AND You are out! How could they have possibly ruin my gift??!@#$#@?!@!a??? The staff were nice on the phone, but don't think for a second that they'd do a good job with flowers, which is supposed to be their business. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, order from this place unless you want to be very, very disappointed. It doesn't matter what their refund or replacement policy is because once the florist doesn't do a good job with your flowers, your day is officially ruined and there is no getting that special day back (how can they possibly replace that special moment?!? Replacements simply wouldn't be the same anymore). The saddest thing is that they are not cheap either. I wouldn't even order the flowers from them again even if they gave it to me for free because that is how much I do not trust them anymore. I took pictures of the flowers from day 1 till day 3 and I am so tempted to post them to let my fellow yelpers know, but I think you get the picture and see my frustration from my words. Just a friendly suggestion "There are many florists around...do not order from this place, go somewhere else since you don't want to waste the money on something that most of the guys have to buy because they are trying to impress someone or having to buy out of obligation or whatever your reason is and at the same time get crap from the receiver and feel bad because this place does such a sh#%$#$#y job." UPDATE - a flower shop saying that they will refund the money sounds very sad to me because they are saying that it is ok to ruin someone else's day and give a refund on it. You should have probably done a better job with the flowers, you should not have sent out flowers on the verge of wilting from the beginning (after all they are supposed to be specializing in flowers). Excuses should NOT be given after the screw up and refund simply won't bring the day and precious moments back. How could this place possibly know who I am? They must be a psychic because I never called this shop or talked to them before! I didn't even tell the person who gave me the flowers that the flowers were disappointing. Hopefully the wrong customer wasn't called and accused of writing the truth. I didn't even bother calling the shop because this place had already showed me that they do not care about their customers by sending crappy flowers and I did not pay for them. Boy was I right, just look at the owner's comment, no sort of remorse or apology. You know..I have given stars back on the businesses the business that just sincerely apologized for their mistakes without making any excuse and attacking their customers. I write the truth and the whole truth of my experience. Maybe this shop only thinks twice before they send the flowers out (that's why the flowers were worse than flowers from costco), but I always think not just two times, three, four, or five times before I write. I simply do not want all the females out there not to have a disappointing experience like I did. The whole point of a review is to make sure that other people out there will not have the same bad experience as I did, or will have a great experience that I received if the place provided excellence service or products. I came to them because my friend had recommended Irises designs to me. They were professional and responded to me timely. I went to do the sample day and the arrangement was just beautiful, all I had were a few minor changes. A few days before the wedding I emailed them to let them know where I wanted two particular arrangements to be (our parents had different Centerpieces, the garland arrangements) no reply. I tried contacting them yet again to ask if they could put any remaining petals on my guest table. No response again. Day of, the people delivering the bouquets arrived promptly, she was very nice. My bouquet turned out wayyyy smaller than I expected. At the venue, well.... To start no petals on the guest signing table. The two arrangements that I wanted for our parents table were not on their table either. All other arrangements looked nothing at all like the preview day (the two with the garland were a little better than the others) but they didn't look like how I wanted/ expected them to look at all (nothing like the sample day). Nothing can be done now but if I would of known I wouldn't had spent so much money on them. Flowers are an important part to any wedding, and I didn't want to compromise the quality of my wedding, had I known this is how it would be I would've never gone with irises design. read more

I liked the creativeness of Ricardo and was really impressed by all the reviews. There were a few minor hiccups the day of the wedding but nothing too major. A little disappointed overall with service. We didn't think we would have any issues with them and they turned out to be the only one who had several issues. They definitely excel in the creativity department and I would recommend them if you aren't sure what type of flowers you want but want something out of the norm white roses/hydrangeas. read more
