Finished result--sat n pepper with lavender haze
    Ranjan P.

Daaaaamn! Mad respect. Irene is bomb. When I went in today, I looked like a bedraggled wet river orphan/street urchin, never having had a decent cut. It was bad. At 60, no more was I gonna go against nature and my age, no more coloring those damn grey roots. I . Mean. WTF? What was I even going for? I was so done. And when I decide to do something, I don't do it nice and easy, the one slow patient way. Nope. It's much more my style to do it with a BANG. Swift, loose, impulsive, brash, and rash. So not only at the tender age of 60 do I decide to go grey, I'm gonna do it with a formal bleaching process (never ever having done it), and while at it loosen in some salt n pepper ... and why not add some purple/lavender haze? Because why not, right? I saw Irene's Yelp reviews, and figured all these people can't be wrong. Plus, when I called, though I never left a vm and she didn't pick up, she called back within 30 seconds. That's responsive and timeliness for you, plus she was able to fit me in that day for a complementary consultation. She took one look and basically confirmed what I already knew: I needed help! She was eminently polite and professional and sweet and kind about it. She also somehow intuitively knew that I'd been coloring out a box (hence the shabby look :-) Those stray wisps of grey at the crown and framing my face was not cutting it. Not even remotely. She gave a "strand test," which I honestly didn't know what I was getting myself in for. She sat me under the dryer for about 10 min and let me know how much time it was gonna take, e.g. approx. five hours (if not more), and because my hair is so dark (almost black to begin with), she said it definitely would be more than four hours and maybe as many as six. Helluva commitment. I was worried about my lumbar issues and how was I gonna sit for that long, etc. Plus the outcome? Who knew anything. I was nervous as hell, and me being an anxious wreck anyway ... we agreed on a week from the consultation. She told me to bring lunch or snacks. During that week, I made a pest out of myself, intermittently texting her pesky little questions about color theory and its transition to silver ... I was a bit worried that I might be taxing her patience--but she was as gracious as could be. We did this foil technique, which most of you when likely are already familiar with. But me, a newbie to this stuff, it was all new, plus something called a toner and color deposits, plus purple shampoo and blue mask ... I am not exaggerating when, after she finished and unveiled the final result, I tell you that I got teary. This was beyond. Just beyond. Because she had so little to work with, e.g. my hair was already pretty short, but she managed magically to coax every strand into a glorious shape and popping yet subtle purplish silvery hue. Wow wow wow, the work and thought and giftedness she put into it. I went in at 9:am and left at 1:40. So she was absolutely on target about the timing, and in fact, got it done in less than the approximation--plus she was meticulous, absolutely obsessed with getting it just right, e.g. at one point when she was washing out the foil part, she thought that the top need more time under the dryer, and off we went again. Not only all this awesomeness, but she super easy to work with, a fantastic vibe, warm and welcoming. The interior, as you can see from the photos, is modern and clean, beautifully done up and sophisticated. Her prices are waaaay reasonable, not those ridiculously hyped up prices in Burlingame for the Hillsborough crowd. I loooove Irene and her work. Just one word of caution: the entrance is not wheelchair accessible. You'll need to climb a flight of stairs in order to get to her salon--and also either ring the doorbell or your stylists' phone number for her to buzz you in. It's super secure and not easily accessible to any random wandering stranger, plus it's by appointment only. Btw., the other thing I appreciate about this location: parking is super easy, loads of it, and free. Not like downtown cities, where you'd need to pay metered or negotiate the hordes, no it's more of a semi-suburban place, which is very easy to get around. Highly highly recommend and can't rave enough about Irene .. ummm, and my purple-ish silver hair :-)

Went to Irene after not going to a salon for over a year. Told her I wanted to add layers and more dimension to my very thick hair and she did an amazing job!! Super happy with how it turned out and I will definitely be going to her again in the future.

I have been seeing Irene for over a year now. I first came to Irene with some hair emergency. I was a messed! Irene is my hair angel. She is very detailed and is a perfectionist. Irene is so easy to talk to, she has the sweetest personality. Today Irene did baby lights on my hair. I love it so much! I cannot imagine seeing someone else for my hair. I would recommend Irene to all my friends and family. Thanks, Irene for always taking care of me!

Leo and one other stylist primarily worked on my hair (it was a woman with short hair and I forgot…read moreto ask for her name). When I showed Leo my inspo pics he managed my expectations because we couldn't get to the exact color I wanted without damaging my hair (silvery grey with black tips). My natural hair color is black and was lifted to a brown with blonde high and low lights...so they literally went through my hair strand by strand to group my hair so they could bleach it properly to get my hair as even as possible. After the toner and color was added, washed out, and dried Leo noticed some parts weren't blended well and instead of just taking my money and letting me leave (since I've already been in the chair for 10hrs and they had closed already) he stayed even later to make sure my hair was as perfect as can be. My hair isn't 100% what my inspo pic was because I'll probably need another session to bleach it but I'm still 110% satisfied. Also I saw another review where a person mentioned that they didn't feel welcome because of the language barrier and that was absolutely not the case for me. My first language is English and second is Tagalog. Yes obviously I won't be chatting it up with the stylists in the salon because I don't speak Mandarin but nonetheless every single person that I interacted with was incredibly kind (they brought me snacks since I was there the whole day, they saw I kept fanning myself because I was getting hot under the covers they use and brought me a fan). I 12/10 recommend this place. I live 45 minutes to an hour away and will definitely make the drive next time I need my hair cut and colored.

I showed up and was promptly taken back for a wash and honestly, the wash alone is worth five stars. A double cleanse? Sign me up. My stylist Vee was AMAZING. I didn't go in with much inspo, but he helped me nail down the length and layers I wanted. He did a dry haircut, which caught me off guard since I'm used to wet cuts, but the results spoke for themselves. The cut was perfect. Will definitely be back for my next haircut, and maybe even color! Thank you, Vee :)

I booked an appointment for a full head highlight and a haircut. The time required for this service…read morewas listed as 5 hours and 45 minutes, and that's exactly how much time I set aside. I was greeted by a hairdresser, a shorter woman with long hair. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. Of course, I understand it can't look exactly like the photo, but I asked if it could be as close as possible to the desired result. She said my hair would be much lighter than my current color, especially since I was doing highlights on the entire head. I emphasized that I did not want yellow tones. However, I was given only partial highlights, and the ends of my hair were not even touched. When everything was finished, I could only see a few "yellow" strands--that's all I got. The whole process, including the haircut and blow-dry, was completed between 11:30 AM and 3:00 PM, which is much shorter than the planned 5 hours and 45 minutes. Clearly, the full service was not done. I was charged for the service I originally booked, even though it was not performed. I asked for the price to be adjusted, and she recalculated it by adding root coloring. After that, the difference in price was only $10. If that was supposed to be charged, why wasn't it mentioned from the beginning? Realistically, I should have only paid for the haircut and blow-dry--nothing more. When I washed my hair at home, it was yellow, dry, and damaged. I could have filed a complaint with my bank for a refund, but I decided not to. I want to find a solution for my hair as soon as possible, because after the service at this salon, it looks terrible--and I paid $450 for it. Pay close attention when looking at their photos, because what you see there is something you will never get in this salon or with this hairdresser. I may be a foreigner in this country, but I've been getting my hair professionally colored for the past 20 years, and I know that what I'm asking for is achievable. I've had this color before, so my hair is not the problem. The problem is that the hairdresser does not know how to do her job. Don't be misled by the ratings and photos of this salon.
