After standing for over an hour, we noticed this little area off to the left side of the stage and discovered it was VIP. Yes GURL! That's exactly what this mama needed -- a place to SIT! For $30 per person, the VIP area had seating, a private bar, private bathrooms, and a fan. Worth. Every. Penny. Hi-Fi is such a gem. Great atmosphere, fun setup, and I love that it feels tucked away right in the neighborhood. We had such a great first experience and will definitely be back!

I have a soft…read moreplace in my heart for Tufty Clough's Radio Radio, a Fountain Square live music spot since 2001 and absolutely one of my favorite places to hear live music in Indy. Radio Radio is a 21 and over, general admission concert venue that offers table and lounge seating on a first-come/first-serve basis with the rest being standing room only (or sitting in my case, eh?). They offer full bar service and have specialty craft cocktails at select shows. Radio Radio is only open during shows with doors opening an hour before the first act is scheduled to play. It's a smoke-free facility, though it's my understanding you can smoke out back. Radio Radio has a really killer vibe with a weaving together of style, substance, retro, and probably a few other things. I don't get to Radio Radio nearly enough, but every time I go I'm like "Man, I need to come here more often." There are free parking lots in various locations around Fountain Square along with street parking in spots. Curb cuts are plentiful in Fountain Square, though it is an older part of the city so there are occasional sidewalk cracks. The front entrance is perfectly accessible and the venue itself is fairly solid, though the "Standing Room Only" shows can be a challenge. My understanding is they'll try to work with you with advance notice, though I have to be honest and say I've never had any difficulties as without exception I've found Radio Radio crowds to be respectful of wheelchair users when they show up. I've always been able to see, though I do typically arrive early just to make sure. Radio Radio's sound system was updated a few years ago and the sound is extremely awesome now. Acts range from local bands to up-and-coming regional and national acts or bands with more of a cult following. Concert capacity is right around 250. There's also this incredibly beautiful winding bar. Employees are friendly and helpful, drink prices are fair (especially for music venues), solid craft beer options, and I just love this entire vibe. It is worth noting that Radio Radio does not do food. If you don't know David "Tufty" Clough, he was the longtime bassist for Toxic Reasons and also for Zero Boys. He was also one of my first artist interviews when I was in college (so, yes. I'm a longtime fan). He also used to own Broad Ripple's Future Shock. This is an awesome venue and one of the better mid-sized options here in Indy. If you've never seen a show, I highly recommend it.

Neither the guard nor the manager would listen to my explanation, we were removed aggressively, and weren't allowed to close our bar tab. We're regular customers- we were there two weeks earlier. Between tickets and our tab, we spent $500 that night and got none of the experience we paid for. I emailed The Vogue and Forty 5 on October 18, 20, and 21, offered to provide proof of my prescription, and asked for refund of our tickets and an apology. On October 22, Forty 5 denied the refund, saying the venue can remove any guest at any time, for any reason without refund - and that is their final decision. I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We do not plan to return.

We got "Disco Boys" and "I'm too pretty for this" cocktails which were tasty - kudos for the fun cocktail names. Calamari, Artisan, and Charcuterie came shortly after. There's a few different options of cheeses and meats, it's sort of a choose your own adventure situation. All were good, especially the calamari. A lot of restaurants tend to overcook it and the calamari gets rubbery, not the case here. Our entrees came out next and I made sure to try a bite of everyone's LOL. The standout of all the entrees was definitely the "Duck, duck" which was, obviously, duck. The runner up would definitely have to be the chicken cacciatore. The drinks were so fancy and they came in a fancy glass, tiki mug, or coconut shaped mug which I loved! I ordered the Tambaran Firedancer and I'm so glad I did, it came with a whole fire show and it tasted great. It had the right combination of alcohol and other juices. EDIT: My experience was so great that I came here again the next day and had an even better experience (didn't think they would too off the first one lol) The staff were so friendly and welcoming to me, they really made the night unforgettable! Melody Inn is at 38th & Illinois in the Butler-Tarkington neighborhood and pretty much across the street from Tarkington Park. I lived at the high-rise at 38th & Meridian for a while and still frequent this area. The "Mel" was established in 1935. It's a historic venue that definitely gives off a dive bar/retro vibe. For live music, there's typically a cover charge around $5 (check the calendar to be sure). Parking in the area is free (street/lot across the street). You can still sit at the original oak bar, hang out in the PBR lounge, visit the Smoker's Garden, and even sit in a vinyl booth from Indy's gone but never forgotten Teepee Restaurant. Melody Inn has an incredible jukebox (obviously not during live music). Every Saturday night is Punk Rock Night (my favorite). The Mel has beer on tap (pretty limited), in cans, and in bottles. They also carry ciders. They have a limited food menu (pizza, chicken strips, corn dogs, and a handful of snack-type foods). This isn't gourmet food - it's dive bar "I got the munchies" food. Local brews include selections from Triton, Sun King, and Three Floyds. While I think Melody Inn is mostly known for its Punk Rock Night, you can also catch hillbilly, rockabilly, rock, comedy, metal, indie, pop, and other types of music here. I've always associated the venue with punk, however, there's something to please everyone here. They have a newsletter you can sign up for on their website. Melody Inn will book local acts. All acts have to be over age 21. They have high expectations for acts promoting their appearances (along with the entire bill). They don't book cover bands, however, they do have tribute nights. While the area here used to be somewhat rough, Butler-Tarkington has improved quite a bit. The park has been updated, Tea's Me is right across the street, and I've just never had much in the way of concerns here. In terms of accessibility, things are pretty decent here for a general admission place. Audiences tend to be pretty considerate (even the punk rock folks!). and the staff here is top-notch. This is just a great place to see local bands and to experience of of Indy's oldest bars/music venues.
