    Side salad and chicken tenders

AJ's Lounge is a special gem in the city. Originally located off Indiana Ave, it relocated to S. Meridian street. There is a small parking lot and parking on the street. Some folks park according the street at the church, but use your own discretion! Inside is small, but plenty of seating. There is an electronic jukebox machine with tunes always playing. Service can be sorta slow depending on how many people are in there. But the wait is worth it! They have a pretty good stock of liquor options and when I tell you the drinks are STRONG, but affordable! The food is good, especially the fried fish! I wish they had an option to buy the fish or tenders al a cart, but oh well! Also, the women's bathroom is very clean!

I was seriously craving chicken wings and fish. I did not want the ordinary and wanted some entertainment with my good. I got a tip on AJ's because we were downtown. Although it had only a few reviews, I figured let's check it out. The food is good. I mean really worth the hassle of going downtown. They do have pretty decent parking out front and you may be able to park next door if the business next door is closed. The drinks are strong and simple. You know, the premixed margaritas, dark spirit and soda, white spirit and soda types. Don't expect to them to make you a complicated cocktail because they will not know how to or have the ingredients on hand. If you prefer your drinks neat or on the ice, you will be good to go. The bathroom is clean and not outdated so they get a star for that. The staff is nice so another star is granted. The food is really good so another star for that. The place is nice inside and they usually have musical entertainment so another star for that. A total of 4 stars for AJ's is definitely right on point. If their bartenders could make more than simple drinks and if they had ingredients on hand for higher end cocktails I would have given them another star. Go for the food and music...and strong drinks if that is what you are looking for.

I'm not sure why my reviews are disappearing! I KNOW I reviewed and posted pictures after my birthday lunch January 2016! I've checked in several times since then Warm and friendly bar that's divvy sheik! The drinks are well poured, live music on the weekends and a fabulous juke box during the week. Your "typical bar food offerings. My favorite is the chicken wings cooked well done and the catfish!

Hubby and I love coming here for after work drinks and food or weekend date night!! Located on the outskirts of downtown, friendly atmosphere. We love the catfish, fries, wings, stiff drinks, did I type catfish, wings and drinks?! The ambience is intimate but can be party style. The music is eclectic and controlled at your fingertip via an app or right at the jukebox! There is outside seating on a nice cool fall day or hot sunny if you like the heat. I never have complaints and love the superb customer service. Hubby likes to indulge in crown and crown and coke ;) and I, tequila sunRISE! Don't be shy, stop by and tell Ms. Gwen I sent you! I love how we can hang here alone or with our in-loves! See you soon!

Best fried catfish and perch in town! Hidden gem. Check this place out. You will not be disappointed.

Great service and a hidden gem. Very good catfish and perch. A slice of Indianapolis history. Give this place a try.

Here is what you need to know.... * Unpretentious. No mixologist and martinis. * Strong drinks and cold beer at very fair prices * Check your attitude at the door and relax * The Mayor, an Exotic Dancer, a Doctor, Janitor or a grand-mother may share the next stool. * Patio Seating out back. * Street parking * Pizza or other food can be delivered * Great for after-work * The place has a soul * Ms. Gwen will treat you right

Awesome adult atmosphere. The decor and ambiance make you feel welcome. Special touches like hand sanitizer, real flowers and air fresheners on the table meet all the needs. The chandeliers make you feel like you are in an Italian Bistro. The powder room host homey decor and a selection of ladies necessities available for use. All they are missing is a bathroom attendant to hand you a towel. The staff is so friendly and make you feel like you are important. The food came out hot, flavorful and crispy like I like it. They even put your drink in a special glass. A small space but a big party! If you like dive bars or "Hole in the Walls" you will love this spot. Definitely better than a hole but a small quaint spot with big potential for a great time!

AJ's lounge is a great place to meet friends for food, cocktail and entertainment. Very friendly staff too!The DJ was on point playing a mix of music for the mature crowd. Nice large back patio but the rain kept us inside. Had a great time!

Keagan Fife (Manager) - A team player, receptive to feedback and conscientious. We had a issue while there and he was able to step in and problem solve with me and come up with a solution that really won us over. We had a moment where it was feeling a bit "why did we come here" but his customer service exceeded expectation. That's good management. (He's the gentleman in the video below.) Let's get the negative out the way 1st. The first waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink. I told her we hadn't received menus. She came back sat them down and walked away. We never saw her again. A new waitress came and she seemed pleasant enough. Once we were all seated she began to take our orders. She made a point to say she needed to write it all down or she was get it mixed up. She then did not write anything down. Our food came out extremely slow but that wasn't a huge deal because we all were mingling. A lot of her team had to step in and deliver our food, give drinks, check on us etc. She was pretty non existent. Two of the ladies never received food. This was after we had been there for 2 hours and everyone else had received their items. At the end when we asked for our check they were all mixed up and confused. The waitress then blamed us for adding things and moving around. We never moved once and she only came around the one time when she originally took our orders. We never got a chance to add things. (it was quite comical that she tried to say that) I ended up asking for manager because she seemed overwhelmed and a bit bias about our group. Assuming that we wouldn't want one check and splitting them because she figured we would want it that way and then blaming us because she did it when we never asked for split. There rule is parties over 8 have to have 1 bill and we never asked for an exception. There was just her assumption that a group of black women wouldn't want to do that. (I digress) There were a few more things but I will end it there. That was the big negative. Now the positive!!! Ambiance 10/10 - great views, great music, great location, umbrellas on roof were great although a but wobbly and scary. Also, they come around with complimentary sunglasses while dining. I thought this was a nice and luxurious touch! Food 8/10 - most food received was delicious Service 9/10 - everyone except for our server was great! Everyone who pitched in to help was awesome! Ended up tipping a different server who basically helped us the whole time. Bless his heart because I know he was super busy. As stated above management handle the situation well. I would definitely go back! I try to give people a chance. I think our server may have been overwhelmed and had a past experience that left her bias against our group but hopefully she can grow and get better. Her actions don't reflect the restaurant as a whole! Go and enjoy the vibes and views!

Would love to try the fried shrimp at some point. The accompanying aiolis perfectly complemented the sliders! I completed my meal with a lemon drop martini. Service was friendly & attentive. The drinks, the ramen, the dessert...we love it all, and we love spending our money at a local business. For years now, the kitchen has substituted rice for ramen for me because I have gluten intolerance. I have always asked respectfully, explained why, and said thank you, every single time. Tonight my husband and I walked down to Strangebird for dinner, ordered drinks and dinner, and I had *just* said to my husband that Strangebird has come to feel like a second home. Then the server came out and told us that the chef has decided they will no longer permit any modifications, including those that meet dietary needs. We were out on the quiet patio surrounded by other customers, so on top of being totally blindsided, it was actually pretty embarrassing, too. Folks, let me tell you how much I wish I could just eat the ramen noodles like everybody else. So much food that I love (and in some cases spent years learning to make myself) went out the window forever when my body stopped being able to handle wheat. But at Strangebird, I could still go in and enjoy the depth of flavor in every other component of a bowl of ramen. And that meant the absolute world to me. I'm heartbroken.
