I just left the Intercontinental San Juan yesterday.I booked an ocean front room for 5 days, 4 nights to celebrate my 30th birthday. I stayed here when I was 15 during a family vacation and have been determined to make it back here ever since. The room had an absolutely beautiful view. My room 1532 overlooked the pool resort area and the beach. I also got it an amazing price. I paid a little less than $1000, which was a great deal based on other hotels I researched for a high quality resort with an oceanfront room. The room was nice. It looks just like the pictures. Although, many reviews complained about the decor, it was fine to me and was very simple (and I am very picky). The bathroom was a little small as others mentioned but not a deal breaker. There was still ample room to take a shower and get ready. The water pressure can go in and out due to numerous people trying to shower at once. Take showers early to avoid that problem. We had no trouble with the free WiFi either. My boyfriend brought his PS4 and was able to stream Netflix and HBO, and even play games online with no problem. The pool area was very nice to relax and soak up the sun. There's a lot of wildlife that is around the pool area. Most of which were harmless. There were crabs, ground lizards, cats and pigeons. The only nuisance were the pigeons because people like to feed them. Get down there early though. The chairs, especially the ones with umbrellas, fill up quickly. The food and drinks by the beach are really good too!! They were moderately priced. The drinks were about $10-12. I loved the Mango Sunrise and the Patron Margarita! A pizza which could feed 2-3 people was about $20. I also ordered chicken wings on a different date which was about $15. There are also many inexpensive food options in walking distance. (Mi Casita, Burger King, Subway, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Pasta to go, even a Chinese restaurant) There are also convenience stores like Walgreens near by so you do not have to eat the tempting overpriced snacks in the room! The ocean area is pretty nice. It's a public area. There were a lot of locals walking their dogs on the beach, which I wasn't fond of because many of them just covered sand over their dog's waste. But that is no fault of Intercontinental. The staff of International gives you beach chairs. You can rent an umbrella for $10 a day but a lot of people end up leaving the beach so you could probably get one for free! The staff was amazing. Anything you needed they made their best to accommodate. The bellhop were the best! Always eager to open doors for you, hail a cab, etc. There were only a few things that I wish I knew before I checked in. The hotel pre authorizes your entire cost upfront (which is fine), but they also pre authorize $100 per night for possible incidentals. For me, that was an additional $400 I did not have access to while staying. Had I known this beforehand, I would have put more money in my bank account. Also, the breakfast buffet was $30 per person. Not worth it in my opinion. Lastly, I wished I would've rented a car. There is a car rental in the lobby but I never rented one because I thought cabs would be cheaper. There is stuff to do in walking distance but so much more outside of the resort. We spent $50 for a cab round-trip to visit Old San Juan ($21 plus tip each way). Overall, I would definitely recommend staying here and look forward to visiting again!!! read more

First time coming here and I LOVED IT. I noticed some comments prior mentioned that the hotel was out dated. My two bedroom hotel room seemed up to date and nothing looking old at all. My only complaint with the room was that there was no mini fridge in the room. My other complaint would be between the waiter at breakfast and the bar tender at the outside/inside bars, were really slow when it came to servicing and giving the bill. This hotel is pricey, but not nearly pricey compared to other hotels such as the Ritz Carlton. I think the big seller here is the pool area, so beautiful, I spent all day outside and didn't want to leave when it came time for my vacation to end. I loved the swim up bar and spent a considerable amount of cash there, but hey ! I am on vacation and I am here to have a good time. The Casino was a bit tiny, but I am not much of a gambler so I didn't spend too much time there. I will no doubt be back to visit this hotel. Great location near a variety of food places, 5 min (not even) ride from the airport, and about a 20 min cab/taxi ride to Old San Juan. TIP: Want a stronger Pina Colada at the hotel? My boyfriend and I stayed at the intercontinental for 5 nights and paid about 1800, just for the room. My review is based off of the price that we paid: The intercontinental was not bad by any means, but definitely not worth that much money. It was a bit outdated (Which usually doesn't bother me) but I mean, some simple things should not be happening at a hotel that costs that much per night. My best example is while I showered, the water pressure would be really good one minute, then shut off, then turn back on and slowly go back to how it originally was. Again, I'm usually not this picky, but again, paying almost $2,000, you would expect the shower to be consistent with good water pressure. We stayed in room 1620, and the bathroom in there needed some updating. It just doesn't look "fresh and new" like other hotels I have stayed at. A little rust on the shower curtain bar, old nicks on the tub, the tub wasn't the type that said "come enjoy a bath". The vibe I got in the bathroom was a "hurry up and shower, and get out!". The room itself was nice and clean, but nothing special. For almost $2,000, I could've stayed at the RIU all inclusive in jamacia (my favorite place ever) and gotten a cleaner, more refreshing room. Pool area was nice, food and drinks were expensive and none of it was over the top, except for the pork egg rolls, I could've eaten those everyday! Hotel service was good, getting service by the pool was hard, which is something they should improve on. If you are going to stay here, add the breakfast buffet to your price in your reservation. The food there was DELICIOUS, too bad I had to pay $60 for 2 people because we didn't include it in our rate. Overall review: just alright. Stayed here recently and we did NOT like this hotel. We payed like 400 dollars a night for our room and it was just a standard room with an "ocean view" which I did not think was even a good view. So we did breakfast one day at our hotel at the buffet, and it was soo gross. Like those fake eggs you get in cafeterias, and cold pancakes, and some fruit. And that was wayy overpriced for the quality of food. The only thing nice about this hotel was the lobby. Even the pool was gross. If you're staying in this area of PR, check in at the ritz! same price and looks way nicer. Do not recommend this hotel! read more

Paper thin walls. You can hear when other ppl flush their toilets. Staff isn't very welcoming, they seem annoyed and on their cell phones. There was a drunk girl on the floor outside our room banging on the door for about an hour, we were told "security was aware" Take a seat when u push the elevator button because they take forever... But there is a sign that says they are being "fixed" The staff on the beach are polite and friendly. No problem ever getting seats. read more

I checked into the Intercontinental Hotel San Juan on November 6th and was pleased with my room and the hotel in general. This was my 3rd trip to this resort in the last couple years. On Monday November 8th I slipped on the wet floor getting off the elevator in the main lobby and hit the side of my face and landed on my knee. It was raining outside and the marble floor had water standing on it. A report was made but I was basically ignored when requesting information about how to handle my injuries including a broken front tooth. I have made many calls and sent many e-mails and still this issue has not been resolved by this hotel. I feel like I have been given nothing but a run around over the last 4 weeks. Nothing has been done to compensate me for my injuries. I am shocked that such a hotel would treat a guest with so much disregard to their injuries. My vacation was ruined and I will not return to this hotel. read more

I had a Jet Blue Vacation planned for the first time ever. I stay here every yr (except for the year of Hurricane Maria) and this year I thought it would be a good idea to book with Jet Blue Vacations to save money. Intercontinental cancelled on us 11 days before our trip. They claimed to be CLOSED DUE TO CONSTRUCTION!! There is no way to find another nice place so close to Christmas. Other family were meeting us and they booked separately with Jet Blue and Intercontinental. Their room did not get cancelled. Do not ever book a Jet Blue Vacation because the Hotel does not care about you. You also will not get IHG points. For a whole year we had planned to come, just like every year, and they tell us they are closed 11 days before our reservation. read more

Cons: Ruth at the tours desk wasn't at all pleasant or helpful - the tour we wanted was not available she didn't suggest another time or activity to enjoy during our stay she seemed more consumed by whatever was on the computer in-front of her. During our stay we dined at the pool cafe 3 frozen drinks, a quesadilla and cheese pizza was $80 and these simple things were mediocre at best. We paid the bill on separate credit card signed and left. Upon check out I was told it had to be applied to the card I checked -in with. I explained we paid after dining and was told by the front desk person it gets charged to room. I said let me check the card I used to ensure before we check out, she understood. The manger Irene step in without warrant and explains what the desk clerk just had- I let her know I understood but needed a moment to look at my account on my end she took offense visible in her tone and mannerism. I let her know that the pool staff should've said it'd be charged to the room instead of taking the card and allowing us to sign and that I understand now though it would've been nice to know beforehand and I'm still going to check my account. She again began re-explaining in an irritated tone. I asked her to stop explaining and expressed to her that it feels like we are arguing back and forth which was not called for. She continued her explanation not to me but then to my guest my non - paying guest it was rude and disrespectful! She never needed to come over nor did she help the situation which wasn't a big deal. With someone like that in management I'd never recommend nor stay here again! pros: Upon arrival Bianca at the front desk was very warm and welcoming, we weren't able to check in early but she did pre-check in which was helpful. The Hotel itself was nice and modern and overall clean the bathroom in our room 1425 seem to have a bit of moldish build up around the tub. The pool and beach area's are each nice with lots of activities from a ping pong and pool table near the pool to parasailing on the beach. Bell Staff were very hospitable and kind. It's close to the airport so you will here the noise of planes quit frequently. Neighboring hotel has a casino and is being remodeled my next visit I'll try there. read more

I truly like this hotel. I stayed here in early June for five days. And I must say that I had a wonderful time and I HIGHLY recommend staying there. Here's why: -- From the time I walked in the door until the time I left, the service was CONSISTENTLY professional and warm (as opposed to the hotel next door called ESJ Resort & Casino, where we went to do a bit of shopping, which I do recommend. The service there, as well as the feel of the hotel were moody, cold and unprofessional). So many people at Intercontinental were so great, that I can't name them all. But big ups to the doormen/bellmen. Their greetings marks the beginning of a phenomenal stay -- The hotel is very nice -- The rooms are what you expect for a beach-side resort -- average. I mean, the goal is not to stay in the room, right? Anywho, the room was spacious -- The hotel has five eateries: 1) Ruth Chris's Steak House 2) A japanese hibachi-style restaurant where we ate twice! Our chef, Kenny, is quite the character. If you ever go and meet Kenny, you'll know what I mean. He was great! 3) A Mediterranean Cafe right off the beach. 4) An italian restaurant, that serves breakfast, including a wonderful buffet 5) A cafe on the lobby level -- I felt secure there because all guests received a wrist band each day, which was checked upon entering the beach. At night, the beach is closed, but the pool and sauna are opened, and a guard is stationed at the entrance to check for wrist bands -- The beach is clean. The sand is soft. You can walk barefoot without stepping on rocks or garbage (that's how it was in Waikiki) -- The beach never felt crowded. -- (For those who like gambling) There is a casino on site -- The hotel is in a location of San Juan called the "Tourist Zone," so, once again, I felt secure -- Across the street is a 24-hour dive market that sells wine and other goodies. AND the other side of the store is a diner-type restaurant. I had an egg white veggie omelet from there that was tasty. Greasy, but tasty. And it STAYS crowded. During the day, the tourist eat there and at night, the locals pack it out. We were so happy we discovered this place -- The concierge, Nestor, took the time to sit with us and talk through our tour options. We ended up renting a car (from the onsite car rental agency, by the way) and driving to the rain forest (which is AMAZING!). It was by far the better option. If you go to PR, get a car -- It has a gym with a phenomenal view of the beach and the ocean -- We were there for salsa night and merengue night, both of which included a live band. It was so cool -- It has a gift shop that has everything. So if you forget something, don't worry. If the gift shop doesn't have it, the 24-hour market across the street probably does The CONS were: -- There was a prom night event there Thursday, Friday AND Saturday :-| -- There is a tree whose roots are disturbing the hotel's pipes. So, during breakfast, there was a tree trimmer cutting off parts of the tree. Tree dust was flying in our direction, seasoning my breakfast and covering my clothes. Not to mention, the noise. Several guests commiserated over it -- One particular part of the toilet went unclean and utterly disgusting. If the seat is up and you're walking into the bathroom, you can see it. Just mentioning it makes me want to vomit. There was also some mold on the shower walls -- The walls are pretty thin. Our room was right across from the elevator and if there was a party in the elevator (or hallway), we heard it in our room. I must say, however, it didn't interrupt our sleep -- On the beach, people can walk up to you to sell their services, such as tours, etc. -- When the hotel was busy (with guests, proms and dance nights), the elevators became overwhelmed. For example, I got on at my floor to go to the main lobby. The elevator took me up first and then down to the main lobby. Another time, we were going from our floor down to the main lobby. Instead, the elevator took us to the lower lobby, picked up some people, went all the way up to the other floors, eventually reaching the 16th floor, before taking us back down again to the main lobby. And a third time, one of the guests pressed the button for the 5th floor, got off at the 5th floor. When we got off at a higher floor, the 5 button was still lit. I enjoyed my stay but a few things to note. There is a noticeable lack of power outlets and garbage cans throughout the property. The property does not have a casino. As typical of resort on the island there is an 18% resort fee. The pool towels are included in the fee but are accounted for via a vending machine, losing one is $20. Though beach chairs are included in resort fees, beach umbrellas are not. Pool chairs are included in resort fee, cabanas are not. Basic internet service is included, high speed is not. Rooms do have a minibar but it is activated by sensor and I do not recommend emptying it to serve as a fridge. Mini-fridges are available for medical needs. The bar prices are a little expensive but that is typical of the island. I'm not sure I would stay here at full fare but if you can snag a deal it could be worth it depending on your needs and expectations. read more

Wasn't the best experience at this Hotel! Nothing what you would expect from the Intercontinental Hotel chain. I have stayed at many Intercontinental hotels worldwide and to name one...Guatemala City has much nicer and has better service than this one! Reserved one type of room which according to their website included breakfast; of course I get there and they said "oh no that's a different type of room" although it clearly states on the website otherwise. But they did change website after I pointed out what was offered and I got nothing. Worthless trying to deal with the staff, as they did nothing to compensate for their error!! Then I get to my room which is nothing fancy. Old school TV from the 80's and to top it off mold in the shower tub and on shower curtain; who knows the last time that was changed. Nothing nice at all. I would not recommend it. Location is convenient but not worth it. I know I'm one to say that we always write a review when something goes wrong but to be honest I have nothing good to say about this hotel other than the location is good and premises (pool and beach) are nice. I just wish they would have honored what their website clearly stated, especially with me having a printout of what it said! So like I said just be careful with what you reserve and if you have stayed at the real luxury Intercontinental Hotels...this is not one of them! read more

We stayed at this hotel during our visit to PR. We were very upset and disappointed with the customer service. (I will refrain from taking names of the staff) We checked in the hotel at 12.30 pm on 12/9. Since it was early to get our room, we checked in and dropped our luggage at the lobby as requested by the front desk. We returned to the hotel at 6.00 pm. Our luggage was brought to the room about 20 mins later. We checked the laptop bag to find that mini-ipad,check and an important paper was missing. My husband immediately went to the front desk to inquire and they said that none touched the luggage and the room was locked. We believed them and checked all other bags to make sure that it was not kept anywhere else. Obliviously we did not find it anywhere else. I went back to the front desk, to ask for help. They called someone from the security team . He took my statement and asked me to fill out a claim. After which he came up to the room and took pictures of the bag . He explained us that they will review the footage and interrogate the staff. He told us that we will have an answer within 2 days. We were convinced that we would have some resolution to this before we check out. Well the next day, I called the security and the person said that she had no clue about my claim. I was shocked to hear that the communication within the dept is so poor. So i went back to the front desk, met up with the manager, repeated the whole story. This time we met up with some other person from security. It seemed he had very vague details of the case and said that this will take 14 days. I asked him 14 days to view a footage of 6 hours. I questioned him, if there were lot of cases pending. He immediately said that this is the ONLY case. But since they are short on staff this will take time and he cant promise anything. So from 2 days this goes to 14 days. Also it had been 1 day and no investigation had begun. We explained the manager how important this is for us and requested to expedite the process. Finally we meet 3rd person form security ( Director of Security ) who took the same details again from us. He claimed that investigation has begun but he cant inform us anything. We have to trust them. I wonder how can we trust the staff when there is no proper communication within their dept, we meet a new person every time , repeat the same story again. Within these 3 days, we never received any kind of call from them. We had to keep checking with them. Lastly they were suppose to provide us with copy of the claim. We kept reminding them but they never provided it until yesterday i.e after several reminders. We paid a hefty price to stay in this hotel.The whole stay was very stressful. The hotel staff belittled the issue. We understand that items can be misplaced or lost but the way the hotel staff dealt with the problem was very disappointing. They could have made this a priority and showed some courtesy. read more

Overpriced, area was decent but not as nice as Old San Juan or Condado area. Concierge Nestor was phenomenal. Definitely talk to him if you need anything. Tip him too, as we forgot to and are actually going to send him a small monetary gift for his help, as he saved us a great deal of money. PROS: The beach area was awesome. Nestor. Next to El San Juan Hotel which is worth checking out (can't comment if it is worth the $ to stay there) Casino Pool wet bar. Not too crowded in May. CONS: Area is overpriced and not as nice as price would assume. Restaurants are overpriced. Rooms are small, not typical U.S. 4 star rooms. Room was not as clean as it could be - hairs that were certainly not ours were everywhere. Bar prices were ridiculous. POINTERS: Do the $15 2 hours of all you can drink beer in the evening "happy hour" at the hotel because it is probably the best deal you are going to get [at this hotel], and they do keep them coming. It is okay. Not good but okay. The rooms are big, but they are dated and showing lots of wear. The staff for our function was not very responsive and overall quite slow. The food was great however. Lastly the front desk girl "upgraded" me to a king room but screwed me out of the ocean view I paid for. I don't think I'd come back again unless the rooms get upgraded. read more

If you're looking for a hotel with true hospitality and one who cares about their clients, do not stay here. My boyfriend and I both are suffering from severe food poisoning from the pool restaurant. We did not leave the hotel yesterday and we shared the club sandwich. I started vomiting at 2am and didn't stop until 5. At that time I called the front desk to see if they had some "pepto," as many fine hotels carry these sort of items for their guests. I explained how I was feeling to the "manager" and she was the most unempathetic/ noncaring hotel employee I've ever spoken with. She never once apologized to me and told me "she couldn't give medicine to guests and I had to go to doctor if I felt better". Pepto bismo is often sold in gift shops so I asked her if they had it. She said " I don't know, you'll have to call them when they open". Again, not one apology or offering to help. I then told her that I didn't appreciate her lack of caring and she told me "I was rude for being so early in the morning ". Lol. Again, I'm the client who is taking time out from throwing up, due to food poisoning from a restaurant in the hotel. To top it off, she told me they could not do anything Bc the restaurant is not owned by them. What a joke. It's on site and promoted throughout the hotel. I then found out a few hours later that my boyfriend, who is Puerto Rican and lives there, had the same symptoms. He called and spoke with the manager. I then received a phone call offering me some homemade soup from room service. And was told the restaurant manager would be calling upon arrival. A bit prejudice I might add. I received no follow up call from the hotel nor the restaurant manager. We are both still sick and can't leave bed, it's 8 pm. I will be filing a complaint to corporate and make sure to tell everyone of this experience. My boyfriend works at a neighboring resort and will also make sure to do the same. Do yourself a favor and stay at the marriot hotels. They take much better care of their clients. read more

This is an amazing hotel and I can't say that I've ever been so welcomed and taken care of in any hotel. I've been a bit down and will be having my second chemo in a week. I'm coming from the Marriott Marquis in DC and this place is like a dream. Luis came right to my taxi and knew my name. WOW! I was then greeted by the most beautiful and graceful woman ever. She got me checked in quickly and now I'm in my beautiful room on the 16th floor with an amazing view of the ocean. The room is really nice and large with a sofa and coffee table. The bed has really nice sheets (Italian?) and I think I could stay here forever. Tonight is Salsa night and tomorrow is Ladies Night. read more

The Intercontinental is an extremely beautiful hotel for business patrons and those travelers that speak English. There is a very nice aquarium in the wall enveloped in marble that is viewable when you enter the hotel. There is also a casino. Rooms are clean and very nice. Room service is expensive, but it's to be expected. Don't park at the hotel. Across the street, there is a parking lot, which will cost you $12.00 for 24 hours. Excellent hotel. We were hesitant to stay at this hotel based on reviews, but had friends staying there so booked 5 nights, we upgraded to ocean view on 16th floor, the view was fantastic. Room was large, high quality linens and towels, housekeeping was excellent in fact every staff member was helpful and professional. Pool and beach were very nice, plenty of sun and shade We would definitely stay here again. Live salsa music on Thurs was very goo (but too loud otherwise no complaints). Location was great for the beach, however it was a $25 taxi to Old San Juan (a must see), which was a tad pricey but we were able to share the cab with friends. Apparently the rooms have had recent upgrades, bathrooms are on the small side as is typical in older hotels but that was not an issue for us. It is not the Ritz, but neither are the prices. We attended an event at the Ritz which was very nice, but really happy that we chose the Intercontinental. Pros: Spectacular ocean view on higher floors (lower floors obstructed view), updated room, comfortable bed, high quality bedding/linens, beach proximity, pool area, friendly staff, close to airport (without airport noise) Cons: Wifi ridiculously expensive, I called front desk and reservations for wifi cost if we have multiple devices, could not get a straight answer, fortunately we were comped. Ask for a comp or check their specials, if you are with a group it may be free so ask. Other cons... $25 Taxi to Old San Juan, Club Section adjacent to pool, no ocean view (and may be noisy in high season. Tip: Join the free Intercontinental rewards club before making your reservation, entitles you to a late checkout (2pm). we also got an early check in (no guarantee) we were able to get into our room before noon which was a huge plus as we took a red-eye into San Juan via Miami. read more

Booked this for the family for the day we arrived back from a cruise bc we had a flight back to the states the next day. We had requested an early check-in 5 months ago when we made the initial reservation & was told the early check-in time would be about 1pm but could be earlier. At 2 PM when we had been waiting since noon, we were told the rooms 'still weren't ready' at 430 (regular check-in for them is at 4pm) we finally got to our rooms only to discover they were regular rooms when he had paid for King rooms. The lady at the front desk was extremely annoyed with us & even rolled her eyes as if we were inconveniencing HER. The GM made it right and we got to our correct King rooms we had paid for. We got an apology, that was it. I waited until I flew back home to write this review bc I wanted to write it with a cleared head (I was mad at the time) I am however still surprised that nothing was offered for the future or the present. no sort of incentive or even upgrade, nothing. It's really unfortunate we had such a bad experience bc the bellmen were 5 stars, they held our baggage the entire time we waited, so friendly and helpful and were great again when we were leaving the next day too. The hotel really is incredibly nice and the beds gave us a great night's sleep. Antonio, the concierge, was great and friendly too. So I averaged it out - 2 stars. read more

My wife and I stayed here 3 days before starting our South Caribbean cruise. This was a package deal with Delta vacations that bundled it with our air fare. We found the lobby area to be very nice. Front Desk staff on check in was OK, room was 3 star, view from the 9th floor was 5 star! Our stay included the buffet breakfast; thank goodness because they charge $27 per person and it is not worth that! Onsite bar was pricey, but had a nice indoor / outdoor placement. Grounds were very nice, majority of wait staff was excellent. However, their customer service shone at check out. My wife had purchased a hat a few days prior elsewhere and it had started to come apart. We asked at the front desk for a safety pin or something just to temporarily fix it; the young woman behind the counter too the hat, went into the back, found a sewing kit, with pink thread to match the hat and proceeded to sew it for her right in front of us, conversing all the while about our stay, what we did, etc. And brushed aside my offer to compensate her for this excellent service but just stating, "Just come and stay with us again" WE WILL! - Pat (Seattle, WA) read more

New favorite on Isla Verde side, the hotel is minutes from airport..with winter here you can be on beach beer in hand within 30 mins of landing. The pool area here is outstanding, there are several depths & nooks you can swim in & not feel too close to other people I do suggest getting there early & "claiming" a nook if you prefer a more private tanning experience. The chairs tend to have a tight line church formation facing the morning sun. The drinks are tasty from the beach bar, since being back 32 oz chinese soup containers are lacking a Rum & juice kick in them. The restaurants around the pool are hotel prices & liquor pours but the pizza is very tasty, maybe it was the music & sunset that made us stay til close - wear your bug spray!! The room was so cozy & clean to squeak,, it was refresh modern. We asked for non feather pillows upon arrival tip in hand waited for an hour & never got them. We came back to our room during turn down time & asked the ladies for non feathered pillows were told no worries & never received. Next day I left & a $5 tip a note about the allergy & mentioned being ignored so happy what that yielded. We came back to synthetic pillows & my first towel elephant ever!!!..we named him Stanley & it was a great nights sleep for both. Isla Verde is a smaller area compared to Condado, if you walk left off the beach exit ( if facing the ocean) a short walk you will find a great restaurant off the beach that we love for Apps & cheaper drinks also great people viewing on weekends. read more

So far, my stay has been disappointing. My friends have a suite that smells of mildew with a broken ac. I sat at the bar for almost 20 minutes before receiving my drinks as others walked up and were served. The drink I ordered was a caipirinha....the bartendar put SKY vodka in it...because there was no cachaca. Never asked if I wanted something different just assumed i should take what he made. This is NOT the type of service I expect from an Intercontinental. The manager of this hotel needs to do a better job. PR is not on the top of anyones list to visit right now so that should be incentive to keep the same standard of service as in the past. read more

I didn't stay at this hotel, but upon visiting we really loved this place. The pool area is beautiful, and apparently there is a private beach which is a nice touch. Staff seems really attentive and there was live music during our visit. Although we ate at the Ruth Chris steak house which was the biggest waste of $$, I wouldn't mind staying here on my next visit to PR. read more

We LOVED our stay in Puerto Rico and the Intercontinental. The rooms were clean and the hotel well-kept. Pool area was great and the fact that the hotel was located right on the Isla Verde beach was the biggest plus. Plenty of great restaurants nearby. Proximity to the airport is great and fortunately there is none of the associated airport noise. We simply cannot wait to go back! read more

I visited with 2 girlfriends. We stayed for 4 nights and 5 days in a garden view room with two double beds. The hotel: from the rooms, to the spa, to the pool were extremely clean. Make sure to book a treatment at their spa and take advantage of the FREE sauna and steam room as a hotel guest! The beach is beautiful with lots of space and very clean. The only downside is that there is lots of seaweed at your feet when you get in the water. Another negative point is that the hotel staff was not at all helpful with giving us pointers on where to visit. We had to figure out everything on our own. But otherwise, the resort itself exceeded my expectations! No hidden fees. Will go back! read more

My bf and I had a great time here. It was close to the airport too. The pool and jacuzzi was so relaxing and the beach was right there too. We gambled at night and before we left in the morning, we had breakfast buffet at Alfredo's. The elevators weren't working at times but other than that, I will definitely come back here. read more

Background: We stayed at the hotel for 10 days during the Xmas holiday. I think this hotel is OK but not worth the huge holiday price we paid. I recently stayed in a 4/5 star trip advisor hotel in Maui and it was exactly 1/2 the price and insanely awesome (Kapalua Villas)!! The Good: -Very friendly wait staff at the bars, beach, pool area - Awesome beach with free beach loungers and umbrellas which cost a fee ($20 I think for the whole day) -The café at the beach has typical beach food but it actually tastes really really good. Sandwiches, burgers, quesadillas etc. - Awesome pool/beach side drinks! - Friendly housekeeping staff - The bed was pretty comfortable and the room had a flat screen TV (with Bravo!!) and plenty of outlets, drawers etc. - We were on the 8th floor and had a nice view of the ocean. Definitely go for a higher floor if they give you the option. The Bad: - The front desk staff was TERRIBLE on several accounts. First - they had no record of our room reservation. My mother in law had spoken to the staff FOUR times about our reservation prior to our arrival (they checked in a couple days earlier). After some huffing and puffing, they found us a room. It took about an hour to check in...I'm so used to Hilton hotels which are very efficiently managed that I was shocked it took so long. - The hotel puts a $1,000 charge hold on your bill when you check in, in case you spend extra money at the hotel. I found this to be really dumb. Usually hotels bill you when you leave - not charge the whole hotel amount + 1K. - The hotel couldn't find a FEDEX tracked package for a couple days that was delivered for our family. -The room was VERY sub-par. This is a dealbreaker for me. While the furniture was sufficient, there was severe water damage on our bathroom door and the door didn't close because the foundation or SOMETHING had shifted. So we were unable to close our bathroom door for the whole trip. We also noticed puddles of water on the floor outside of the bathroom and couldn't find the source of the leak. One time it was brown water :( It was on our last couple days so we just gave up. The floors honestly just looked dirty. -This is not necessarily a bad thing but there were lots of children around this hotel (pool, beach, rooms) so just be aware if its not your thing. Our neighbors had young children that loved to scream and we heard them through the walls frequently. - The doors do nothing to block hallway sound. Just be aware. - The fitness center is very very small for such a large hotel. It has a great view but 4/6 times I went, all 4 treadmills were full. We are an active family and everyone complained about the gym being small. - The pool is not heated - it was still pretty cold in the 85F weather - The nearby street in Isla Verde is...OK. The restaurants are good but overpriced. I wouldn't say it feels really unsafe but I also felt very much like an outsider and the street was pretty run down. Condado looked much nicer but that's a touristy area. The Ugly: - This is not really a review of the hotel but I felt it necessary to share this since someone posted a picture of bedbugs. I DO NOT think this hotel has bed bugs, BUT my husband did get exactly the same bites as that previous reviewer posted. After doing some research, I figured out that it was sand fleas. My husband laid on a towel in the sand for about 2 hours...the next day he was miserable with about 40 bites on his legs. The bugs are so small that you can't see them or feel them, and they can get carried into the room. The bites showed up the next day and he was scratching his legs all day. Poor guy...looks terrible. I don't think its bed bugs because I wore 25% DEET bug spray everyday and I have no bites...bed bugs are not repelled by DEET like sand fleas are. So its an EASY solution but most people might not know... There are tons of mosquitoes too and they carry DENGUE FEVER so please please please wear bug spray. Its easy enough to repel them!!! read more

We recently stayed at Intercontinental for 4 days. We had an awesome time! I must say there were some super pro's and some super con's. PROS: -Nice sized rooms, pretty clean, comfy beds, nice hairdryer. -The little balcony was awesome and offered a view of both pool and ocean. -The pool is open all night, which is awesome, but the pool bar is not open late, unfortunately! I think Intercontinental has the best pool of any of the resorts on this strip. It is really, really nice. -The resort is nestled right in the middle of Isla Verde's awesome beach. Chairs are available for you on the beach (free of charge) and there are umbrella and jetski rentals. -Overall, service at the resort was impeccable and the atmosphere was really relaxing. Gorgeous lobby, fire pit, bar, and casino. Now for the CONS: -The bathroom was not very nice for as much as this resort costs. Needs updating, and there was mold on the shower curtain. You won't want to have romantic activities in the bathroom there! -NO complimentary coffee. Why?! WTF! -*BEWARE* $30/day resort fee will show up on your bill as well as a $1/day charge for "shelter in a storm" (???) -The elevators are extremely slow. Anticipate waiting 10-15 min for the elevator anytime you take it. We took the stairs most of the time. -The casino was cool but the roulette table was NEVER open. We actually went to El San Juan next door to play roulette. On the up side, the drinks at our casino were legit and the black jack dealers were nice. -Finally, the resort, as you might expect, overcharges for food and drink. Drinks will run you $12-$15. Food is also really expensive, and pretty MEH. We tried the Mediterranean café on the beach and the pool bar and our food was not awesome. TIPS: -Metropol (exit resort and take a left) it is about a 5 minute walk- excellent food. I highly recommend eating here for lunch or dinner and skipping the resort restaurants. -El Alambique beach front bar- Exit resort onto the beach and take a left- 3 minute walk up the beach and you're there. You can pay 4.50 for a rum and coke or beer vs. $12-15 at the resort. The mofongo (and all the food for that matter) are awesome! You get an ocean view. Do it. -Buy your own liquor and enjoy it from your balcony or take it to the pool/beach. You'll save a fortune. BUT--I do recommend having a drink or 3 at the swim up bar, just cause it is awesome. -Taxi's are EXPENSIVE. Plan to spend $20 give or take to get to and from Condado or OSJ. I think airport was $15. If you plan to be back and forth a lot, renting a car might be worth it. read more

Three Stars is a negotiated rating for me. Let me explain: This was a birthday trip for me only ten days ago courtesy of my daughter. A Mother / Daughter deal, if you will. High maintenance guests? Dont think so, we just want to eat, drink, swim and get a good value in a clean place. I waited to post my review to see if the horrendous non-welcome at this place has improved since our awful greeting and addressing it with the GM upon departure. I am waiting to see one positive comment that the front desk has been re-trained or replaced but all I see are more unsuspecting guests walking into this snakepit of a lobby to check in. Yes, I am going for the jugular here because we took our time to address it nicely and apparently nothing has been done. People dont need to pre-book and pre-pay entire vacations to have to synchronize their plane trip to the exact second their room becomes available. No one does this. You arrive at your hotel and you are warmly greeted. if your room is not available for ANY reason whatsoever, you are offered a cozy place to wait, perhaps a drink on the house if it is their lapse, maybe a bite to eat if you have been flying 8 or ten hours. This is known as "hospitality' which is the business these clip joints are in. Absolutely nothing was done to make us feel we had given a lot of money to the right hotel, absolutely nothing was done to make us comfortable, not offered a glass of water, a seat, a tour of the property would have been clever. Zip. Nothing. 'Check in is 4pm:" and i tell you this is with a sneer and an attitude that is so obnoxious you want to go to another hotel....but you can't.....they wont give you back a dime and remind you of that with another sneer. Now the end result of our week there; we decided we loved it and would return perhaps Thankgsiving but now I see the cavalier attitude of the managment in not handling this unpleasant matter and I'm not sure. We visited other hotels and got great recommendations. While this is definitely our first choice for the beach, the food, the cleanliness, its not the only game in town. Added to this "youre on your own until 4pm" attitude was the fact that the lobby was filled with the most unsavory foul mouthed loud badly behaved characters you would ever want to be stuck with. I'm disappointed to learn they have not addressed this problem. I was prepared to give a 5 star review if they had. I consider this a major lapse in hospitality management. Perhaps William or Baron or Glorita or the other bellmen and valets who demonstrate magnificent public relations, hospitality and generosity of spirit can take over that awful front desk and show them how to treat guests looking forward to giving great reviews. This is a divine place to vacation. Dont pay up front. Keep your options open until you are IN your room. There is wonderful food and people all over the island. you dont have to compromise. read more

We had an excellent stay here. Everyone was so welcoming and did what they could to make our stay pleasurable...especially the men at he door and the bell hop. They were able to give us directions, suggest restaurants and a place to rent a car. This hotel had an elegant and modern feel. Such a beautiful place place to stay. It's right off the beach and the pool is 24 hrs. I went to spa and it was such an amazing experience. Very professional service and totally worth it. I stayed at the hotel for 7 days Let me start of to say the hotel is very clean and they make sure to maintain the lobby, the front desk and the pool area. On our first day when we got there we were surprised by the hotel policy (which was not disclosed when we booked the trip) that they wanted a hold of $100 per night ($700 for our stay) in case we damaged anything. The front desk attendant was not very helpful and wanted to go back and forth with me. After we were able to resolve that part, we were told that check in was at 4 pm but it was only 10 am (what a drag). Anyway fast forward to later on, the hotel concierge was nice enough to get us a room to wait for our actual room (that was cool!) The hotel on itself is nice; the staff is extra helpful, polite and professional. The hotel is close to a lot of locations and stores (Walgreen, restaurants, boutiques, coffee shop), so you do not have to touch the mini bar in your room or any food or snack (they are overpriced like $4 for a Kit Kat) The pool area is pretty nice and open late (try swimming in the dark under the waterfalls = so cute and romantic) Overall it was a nice stay, my main complaints was that the bathroom are very small (tiny) and the room does not have a fridge, and you have to pay for umbrella when on the beach $10/day The best part were that the staff is friendly and helpful, the hotel is closed to many attraction ( a cab away or even the bus for 0.75 cents) , they are many restaurants in the area to have brunch or lunch (check out my yelp page for more restaurants) read more

This is a beautiful hotel with a spectacular pool area that has an entrance right onto the beach. The rooms are very nice, clean, and updated with balconies. The beds are super comfy. The restaurant is okay. Typical Puerto Rico service standard which is slow and inattentive. If you can get past that then it's a great place to stay in a good location walking distance to many bars and restaurants. read more

I ate dinner at the Alfredo Italian restaurant at the hotel and it was fabulous! I recommend this place for a nice dinner out. It is a little strange eating italian when you are in PR, but it was a good change of pace from churrasco and plantains. The service is stellar and the food as well.
