A Great Job by a Remarkable Team…read more Independent Energy Hawaii did a great job for us. This is a remarkable team of people who clearly know what they are doing and take pride in getting the job done right. What impressed me most was not only their technical knowledge, but their willingness to take the time to help us understand our system and how everything works together. We already had an existing NEMA backup system, and they worked to tie it into the new system so that it will continue to serve us when the grid goes down--which unfortunately happens fairly often in our area. The entire crew worked hard, paid attention to the details, and made sure things were done properly. Just as important, they were responsive when I had questions and helped me understand what I have and how to use it. My wife and I truly appreciate the effort they put into our home. It is reassuring to know that when the power goes out, we have a system that was installed by people who knew what they were doing and cared about doing it right. Mahalo to the entire Independent Energy Hawaii team. We greatly appreciate everything you did for us. ---James L.

Rory has been a solid salesperson looking out for us and making sure we were on schedule. Their office always called to confirm install dates, changes and also double checked via email. Finally, Jordan Bush as the crew chief was very good in doing the initial inspection and letting me know the next steps that would be involved. Their crew was prompt and let me know when they would be at our home to start. Always good to have confidence in the company for such a big investment. Jordan did the final hookup and left us with a great feeling we had installed something valuable. I recommend Island Pacific Energy to all who are looking for a solid local company that stands apart from the others that don't return calls, don't communicate well, don't follow up and make promises that aren't fulfilled.

Since Eco Solar installed our Tesla Powerwall and solar panels, I genuinely don't know when it happens. No flicker, no beeping, no hunting for flashlights, the Powerwall takes over instantly and the house just keeps going. More than once I've found out we were in an outage from a neighbor texting me. The lights never even blinked. We shopped around and got quotes from several companies before committing. Eco Solar came in with the best pricing, and by a pretty good amount. What I appreciated just as much is that the number didn't move, it was a single advertised price, and that same number went directly to the credit union that helped me with financing. Michael French is who we worked with, and he's the reason I'd send anyone here. He walked us through system sizing and the Powerwall without any pressure, answered questions I'm sure he's fielded a thousand times, and was honest about what did and didn't make sense for our roof and our actual usage. He stayed reachable after the install too, which in my experience is exactly where a lot of companies go quiet. The install by the team happened in a single day, and all the permitting and paperwork was taken care of by the office staff, I barely had to do anything myself aside from the finance setup. The install is super clean and my neighbors have come by and asked who we used since it looks so professional. If you're a fellow Hawaii Kai resident and tired of the outages, or just tired of what you're paying HECO every month, ask for Michael. Can't recommend them enough.

As luck would have it, my previous updated review of Ecosolar would not be my last…read more After converting my system from running off of Sunpower/Enphase's microinverters to Tesla's inverter from my new Powerwall Plus, I had some worry about what might happen with a single point of failure. Midway through summer, I found that out when my entire system went down when it failed. I reached out to Chris from Ecosolar right away and let him know that I was having a problem and he started troubleshooting immediately. After some investigation it was determined that the inverter had to be replaced and after waiting for Tesla to ship out the part, it was replaced in a timely manner. I was back up and running again, until December when my system started acting up again, this time seemingly having a problem with one of the batteries. I contacted Chris again and let him know that I was having a problem again, and although communication was rough with the end of the year approaching and federal tax credits expiring, I had a service appointment scheduled for the first week of January. On their site visit, it was determined that my new Powerwall Plus itself had gone bad. They were able to start the RMA process with Tesla and told me it would be replaced, possibly with a new Powerwall 3, because the Powerwall 2 was end-of-life and not in production anymore. That meant they would also have to replace my original Powerwall 2 as well with a new Powerwall 3 expansion pack. They hoped optimistically that I wouldn't have to wait too long for the replacement. Fast forward to April and it did take longer than expected for Tesla to send them the replacements but the good news was that Tesla did indeed replace both of my Powerwall 2 units with a new Powerwall 3 and expansion. This did require much more work on the part of Ecosolar to retrofit than just unplugging the old setup and swapping in the new one, for my particular case, and I appreciate the extra lengths they had to go through versus just having to swap out the old if Tesla had just sent a Powerwall Plus replacement instead. I had been down for a few months but the upside is that I have a brand new set of batteries now in 2026. I would say my solar journey has been rougher than I expected it to be. Parts have failed. Parts have been replaced under warranty. Yes, I've experienced periods of time where my PV system has been offline due to failures, and had to deal with big HECO bills until those failures were resolved. I've had two Powerwalls replaced under warranty in the last 7 years (technically 3 since they swapped my still working Powerwall 2 with a new expansion pack), and an inverter. I had problems with weird glitches with power that kept tripping the Powerwall into thinking that I was experiencing a power outage, that Ecosolar's technician helped to diagnose and find out was actually a problem with HECO's underground service feed into my home (which was another years long adventure with HECO altogether). Sunpower's PV control system got booted offline and needed to be reset remotely. Each time I've had a problem I've contacted Ecosolar and each time they've addressed it to the best of their ability. Yes sometimes it takes time to get things resolved, and it can be hard to be patient. Tesla seems to take awhile to get things sent here but they have always come through thus far too. My additional cost for all of their warranty work and service over all this time has been ZERO. Every single problem I've ever had has been addressed. It's great if you can invest in something like this and never have a problem, but I understand that things happen when you're dealing with new technology, and it sucks but sh*t happens. But when you do invest in something as expensive as solar, it's good to know that I've invested with a company that takes care of it's customers.

There were many aspects of the project--and, in particular, several individuals--that truly stood out to me. I wanted to take a moment to formally recognize their contributions and let you know how much we appreciate the professionalism, dedication, and pride they brought to the project. Merv has been nothing short of exceptional to work with. While he may be a man of few words, he certainly knows how to get the job done. He is highly motivated and takes tremendous pride in both his own work and the work of his team. His attention to detail is remarkable, and he consistently went above and beyond to ensure that we, as the client, were not only satisfied with the work but genuinely impressed with how each stage of the process was handled. Merv's combination of initiative, critical thinking, and ability to adapt on the fly makes him an invaluable member of the team. As we approach the completion of the project, he identified several details that I had personally overlooked. Rather than simply accepting them, he took it upon himself to ensure they were addressed before the project was finalized. That level of ownership and commitment speaks volumes about his character and work ethic. Individuals like Merv are instrumental in maintaining and strengthening the reputation that SunSpear has built. Blaine was my primary point of contact from the very beginning and played an instrumental role in bringing this project to SunSpear. We received four competing bids, and Blaine worked diligently to ensure that SunSpear remained competitive and presented us with a meaningful offer. His willingness to be transparent throughout the process immediately gave me confidence that I was working with someone genuine--someone who understood our priorities and treated them as if they were his own. Blaine took the time to understand the scope and complexity of what we were undertaking and worked closely with me to ensure that our needs were fully understood. His efforts ultimately led to connecting me with Taki, who was instrumental in taking the plan from concept to execution. There are not enough words to express how grateful I am for Taki. He has been an exceptional communicator, coordinator, and liaison throughout this entire project. Despite my being away on an extended vacation at the beginning of the project, Taki maintained consistent and proactive communication with me from start to finish. He provided an extensive project timeline that was executed remarkably close to plan, which gave me a tremendous amount of confidence throughout the process. Considering the extensive coordination required, coupled with the expectations of my team to maintain our day-to-day operations, Taki remained composed, organized, and thorough at every step. He has been an outstanding partner throughout this project and, quite frankly, made my job significantly easier. His ability to anticipate needs, communicate effectively, and keep everything moving forward was invaluable. Cory was another key contributor who helped make this project as seamless as it was. Through his coordination with his team, Cory worked closely with us to ensure that the project had virtually zero impact on our operations. He also helped identify and implement proactive measures that will benefit us as we move into future phases of the project. Cory consistently stayed on top of every detail and demonstrated a tremendous commitment to our success. His willingness to come in on a weekend to help us prepare for our tie-in is just one example of the level of dedication he demonstrated throughout the project. His efforts did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. All in all, Sunspear maintains an exceptional team of highly skilled and genuinely valued individuals. Each of them takes tremendous pride in their work and consistently strives to execute at the highest level possible. Their professionalism, ownership, communication, and dedication made a significant difference in the success of this project. We are incredibly grateful for the many hours of hard work, coordination, and commitment that they have invested in our property. The end result will allow us to operate in a more sustainable and energy-efficient manner, and we recognize that achieving that outcome required a tremendous amount of effort from everyone involved. Please extend our sincere appreciation to Merv, Blaine, Taki, Cory, and the entire SunSpear team. Their efforts have made a lasting impression on us, and we are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group of professionals. With the addition of the SolarInsure program, we look forward to many years of continued collaboration and to building upon the strong partnership established through this project. Thank you again for an outstanding experience!

We were able to schedule the installation pretty quickly especially with a lot of homeowners trying to get their systems installed by the end of the year. Prior to the installation, Sean informed my mom of what needed to be done to prep the area for the install. Basically clean the area surrounding the existing water heater and the space needed.
