After reading so many great reviews, I was feeling hopeful that this was going to be a great shop. I do a bit of mechanic work myself, but I usually leave it to the "pros" to diagnose engine trouble instead of wasting a money and time trying to figure some things out on my own. I realized after looking over some of these reviews, that lots people aren't very mechanically inclined, and really don't know if or when they're being taken advantage of. I'm glad I didn't get swindled into paying a bunch of money to get my car diagnosed by Javier. He's obviously just out to make money, regardless of customer satisfaction. I have a 99 Mazda Protoge, with a fair amount of miles. It's had a rough idle since I bought the car about 6 months ago, and recently the check engine light came on. I used a friend's OBD 2 scanner to see what the code was, which gave me a PO171, indicating "lean bank". Not knowing what this meant, I went to Inter Auto to find out what sensor or problem I had with the car. I verified with Javier, before the work was done, that he was going to do more than just tell me basically what I already knew - the code it was giving me, and provide some possible solutions to the problem. After leaving my car all day, he called me and explained that I had multiple problems with the car, and we need to charge me another $180 to find out what the root of the problem was. (on top of the $90 I was already paying for the diagnostic). Saying that he would have to take off the valve cover and check some other things. He told me my compression was high for my engine (not true, see more notes below). He told me I needed a new mass air flow sensor that normally sells for ~$250, he would sell me one and install it at no extra charge for $200. (the same brand new nippo denso sensor sells for $130 from Oreilly). I returned to pick up my car, and told him I didn't want him doing any more "work". I went to Brian's Automotive, and Brian said after checking that the pressure measured for each cylinder was actually normal for my car (contrary to what Javier was saying at Inter Auto). He also said that he didn't find anything drastically wrong with the performance of the engine, and only that my injectors might need to be cleaned. He said my catatlytic converter might be going out soon and that was about it. Most of all, Brian DIDN'T even charge me for doing a quick check of my car! The only thing I suppose I can thank Inter auto is for them supposedly cleaning my mass air flow sensor. read more

Javier made my Labor day weekend! My car broke down on the way to Escondido. I looked up auto repair shops on Yelp during my ride in the tow truck. Other shops were unable to get the part until Tuesday in addtion they were charging at least $100 more than Inter Auto Repair. I called to see if he could get the part and had time to do the work, he said yes so I had the tow truck drive me to his shop. The part arrived as the tow truck was dropping off my car. The work was done not only the same day but within two hours!!! I was able to continue my trip to see my family for the weekend! US Marine with a very honest review. I found Inter Auto on Yelp after a HORRIBLE experience with Army Mechanics. Called and got a quote to replace a bad engine on my Ford Edge. Javier was very polite and we even spoke about the importance of customer service in this business. He made me feel very comfortable getting my repairs there. Had the engine shipped to Inter Auto repair and my Edge towed in on a Thursday. He called me during the repairs to request I get a few seals and gaskets which I was happy to do. Wednesday my SUV was ready for pickup. This has by far been the easiest repair in terms of setup and coordination I have ever had. I was only charged what he quoted and my Ford Edge is now back on the road like new. At first glance it was a small shop I probably would not have looked twice at, but the quality of service they are able to offer because they are small is amazing. I just want to start off by saying that I don't usually write reviews but my experience here has been so good that I feel the need to write this one. If you want honest work done at a reasonable price, talk to Javier. Inter Auto Repair has taken care of me numerous times on various jobs for my BMW 335i. No fooling around, no mickey mouse jobs, reasonably fast service, and probably the best price you'll get in the Escondido area. I initially heard about Javier from my brother who takes his cars to him. Javier told me how much everything was going to cost upfront with no hidden costs. He only recommended what was needed and didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need. I'm pretty mechanically inclined so I can tell if someone is trying to up-sell something. Javier doesn't play that game. If he recommends something, you probably need it. I was at Inter Auto today for a complete A/C vacuum and recharge on my BMW and Javier had me in and out in less than 30 minutes even though there were other cars in the shop. Out of curiosity I called a German auto repair shop in the area to see what they charge for this service and I found out that I paid 60% less by going to Inter Auto. The service is exactly the same. The A/C is blowing ice cold air and no leaks. I don't want to drag this on for too long. Go to Inter Auto for your car needs. You won't be disappointed. read more

I was getting ready to go to work when my 2000 Ford Contour would the car crank but wouldn't start. I did a quick search on-line and found many mechanics in Escondido. When the tow truck arrived, the driver hit the side of my car with a mallet near the gas tank and started my car. I was told that it was possibly that the fuel filter or pump needed to be replaced. With this new information I went back on-line to figure out which mechanic to call. I called several mechanics and I asked for estimates. I got several estimates all which seem too high. When I spoke with Javier at Inter Auto Repair he gave me two possible estimates, one that was a simple repair and the other worst case scenario repair. None of the other mechanics gave me options I was give only one price and the price I was given was higher than Javier's worst case scenario repair. I decided to take my car to Inter Auto Repair. When I got there I was greeting by Javier, he explained what my options were and prices. He gave the pros and cons of the simple repair and the worst case scenario repair and he let me decided. He never pressured me into fixing another part of my car like other mechanics did in the past. He focused on the issue at hand. He even went the extra mile and cleaned my car's headlights which were so dim. Javier is a straight forward, honest, friendly mechanic who will treat you with respect. I have had mechanics who have told me that my car would never make it if I didn't repair a certain part. They even offer to buy my car because my car was in such a bad shape. Javier never made me feel like I was driving a death trap like other mechanics have. I highly recommend Inter Auto Repair; there is a reason why many people give this shop 5 stars. First of all, DO NOT trust this auto repair shop!! If you don't know anything about cars make sure to do some research or get a second opinion. We brought our car in because it was over heating, left it over night to get checked, came back the next morning and was quoted $2,000 worth of work! Now that would of been fine IF the car actually needed everything they said needed repaired. So, my husband having grown up around mechanics made the smart choice of having the mechanic talk to my father in law (who's a mechanic him self-doesn't live in CA) just to make sure we under stood all of what we would be paying for. First red flag.. once my father in law started asking questions the mechanic got frustrated because he realized he was actually dealing with someone who could call him out for repairs that didn't make sense. Second red flag, once we were quoted the $2000 (and gotten the inspection back) we told the mechanic that our car was under warranty and the warranty would cover the repairs after they sent out an adjuster to make sure the correct issue was being fixed (the over heating issue). The mechanic became hostile and rude and said that since we knew the car was over heating he could not use our insurance because we were negligent!? So we had to pay cash! What!? Excuse me!? Cars have the "temperature gage" on the dash board for a reason. Duh? We saw it was over heating, so the first thing we did was get it check! How is that negligent? Of course we left and got a second opinion, got our car fixed for $400 and 1/2 of the "repairs" this mechanic quoted had nothing wrong with the parts. So, basically he wanted to scam us for more that $1500 in cash because he automatically knew that the insurance adjuster would know his repairs were bull sh**! read more

He will tell you exactly what your car requires, and won't try to up sell or over charge you for items that you don't need. Best of all, he gives me options. He just did an all change on my 2013 Toyota Prius three so not much that you can screw up there he did a good job and in a timely manner and he got me in without an appointment pretty much right before closing and did not mind he did however change my speedometer 2 km instead of miles so I will have to figure out how to turn it back to miles unfortunately other than that I think he did a good job that's the only reason why he didn't get five stars because I have to work on changing my speedometer back LOL read more

I needed a timing belt for my vehicle and I knew this would be an expensive service. Javier carefully explained every expense and told me that the price could increase if he found items that needed repair once the engine was pulled apart. System had A/C troubles (compressor oil spewed from underneath vehicle) and I was preparing for the worst after "help" from online forums and the local AutoZone "A/C Guru". Not such a guru, because I was in and out of Inter Auto in less than 90 minutes with a working A/C again, avoiding parts replacements.
