This place was the first thing that showed up when I was searching for a smog check spot. I decided to stop by since it is close to where I live. Smog check comes out to be $78.20 before the coupon (including the certification). While I was waiting, I found a $40 off coupon on their website so I showed it to the person that was helping me. I was aggressively questioned as why didn't show the coupon right in the beginning. He then told me I would have to reschedule since it has to be a physical copy of the coupon. I had to point out the coupon says "printed or mobile". There must have been some misunderstanding because who shows a coupon before paying??? Brought my car in for 90,000 mile maintenance service. Guy at the counter kept thinking I just wanted an oil change so had to tell him, no I wanted a radiator and transmission flush also. Got charged $1,100 then noticed my passenger side window all of a sudden didnt roll down. Called and made an appointment 5 days ahead of time, when I went in I was told they can't get to it today and that I'd be responsible for paying them to fix the window and have to leave my car all day the next day. This place doesn't have very good customer service, is more expensive than other auto repair shops in the area, and will make you pay for any minor issue with your vehicle that resulted from their work. ere I was: Truck dead at Lowes in Escondido on a Friday at noon with my trailer parked at site 55 at South Carlsbad State Beach scheduled to exit at noon on the following Monday. I called my regular mechanic, and they couldn't even get around to looking at my truck until Monday at the earliest (which was too late). The tow truck driver said, "I know a guy..." and I thought for sure he was going to take me to some 2-day-old-gas-station-sushi joint where I was going to get fleeced. But, what was I gonna do?... I was desperate. So, I trusted the driver and said, "What the heck do I have to lose...?" My truck and I were dropped off via tow truck around 1:30 on Friday. I plead my case to Sammy at the front instead of saying, "Whoah, man, it's Friday... We're outta here at 5:00. Maybe we can finish it Monday morning,"... hat I got was, "No guarantees because we have to diagnose it first, but we'll do everything we can to get you taken care of today. If we cant finish it today, we'll FOR SURE get it done tomorrow morning." And you know what? He finished it today! My truck and I were dropped off around 1:15 this afternoon, and finished up around 4:15. And the price was more than reasonable. I told Sammy he could've thrown an extra zero in the end, and I'd have been happy to pay it. Bottom line is this is the kind of shop and customer service I remember from my youth. These guys treat customers like people and not like dollar signs. They do great work and their prices are fantastic. I used to have a local mechanic my wife and I used for years in Escondido. Tony took the challenge of repairing my car. The repair was not mechanical. It was a body shop type. Here was the challenge from two separate accidents: The car hit a tree so the front right corner of the car was torn and caved into the engine compartment, large scratches along the side spanning across both front and back doors, large dents along the side from front to back caused by rubbing against a guardrail, hood was severely bent. It was just by chance that we found Performance Auto Care from a desperate internet search. Tony said that he can do it... for a lot less than other body shops had quoted. I was on the fence of buying a brand new car or spend reasonable amount of money to keep this car a little longer. Tony's willingness to help was the solution. Got the car back a few weeks later and to my surprise the work was fantastic! The car looks great! I would highly recommend Tony to anyone who needs body work for his/her cars as he provides honest work for a fair price (definitely will not break your bank). Two weeks after that, I needed an oil change and inspection. I tried out performance auto care again, and I am so happy I did. Went for an inspection and was told what I figured was wrong with my car. Once I picked it up after telling them I did not want them to fix it (because the price was crazy for that job) I drive it again and all of a sudden my car was driving worse than I brought it. Guy at the front desk just rudely say, "NO NO IT WAS ALREADY LIKE THAT IT WAS ALREADY LIKE THAT" Obviously I know my car been driving it forever. It did what it was doing, but why all of a sudden worse after pick up? Maybe something was put in a different location than before or something IDK, I'm not a mechanic, but wouldn't even simply check anything just came off in defensive mode! I'm a retired veteran and can't stand to deal with bad service! At least could've handled the situation better. I have to put this one star, but definitely wouldn't. read more

No one in the area could get me a matching tire before Monday, and getting towed all the way home would have cost me about $500.00. PAC got me the correct tire, buttoned up my car, and saved my day by noon. Be careful - went in to get a check engine light checked out for my Subaru. After a couple of hours, iam told, my transmission is gone, estimated $7k+ in repairs, charged me $150 and suggested the car is not safe to drive. My car had 47k miles on it, so that shocked me. Luckily, I decided to get a 2nd opinion and towed it to the Subaru shop AND turned out, all I needed was a new battery!!! Total cost out the door $250 with the dealer. When I call Performance to let them know, no apology but they still insisted, with arrogant and rude, that they were right, the battery change wouldn't work. I am here 6 weeks later, car driving perfect, no issues. Should have read the reviews, don't want others walking into this BS, so posted this. read more

Brought my car to get fixed. Got radiator replaced. As I was driving it home it made a noise. Brought it back and they left a guard? Down. No big deal they fixed it real quick. Few days later my car overheated. Had it towed back to PAC and they said they had to add a clamp. A few days later car overheated and it was leaking coolant. Had to bring it to a mechanic somewhere else and they said they had the clamp too high. So I basically had to pay an extra 250 because of PACs work. They were very nice, but their excuse was that they were really busy.. so maybe try to stay away if they're busy. read more
