Can I give Ben 10 Stars? He has been fixing my cars for almost 30 (thirty!) years! This week my old Toyota truck water pump failed and he had it fixed super fast! Thirty years ago it was my Chevy Astro Van. Next was my Ford escape. Then my son's Expedition. Then our neighbor's old vintage Chevy truck. Then my Dodge conversion van. And my Mom's Honda. Every gas car we've owned for 30 years has been to Ben's (first on Felicita, now on Mission)... Except my new Tesla Model Y -- maybe that will never need repair, but if it does -- Ben tells me he can do it. I hope that I won't have to do that, but if we do -- I'll trust only Ben. Cannot say how great a businessman and a mechanic he is! Ten stars at least --- maybe more. Really great guy & team of mechanics... read more

Ben's Auto Repair - Auto Repair Near Me - Escondido, California

I was referred here by my client and I was grateful to have such honest and courteous service. A local dealer had told me I needed my brakes done, but Andy was able to inspect my car and find out the true issue being my master cylinder. Hearing that I was expecting a lot as it is a pretty intense repair, but I was able to get my car back the same day. The office and grounds definitely need some work, but it's because they put all of their time into your vehicle. Grateful to be helped honestly in a field which you never know. Please know if you come get a ride because there is not many places to wait except a Denny's across the street. All other places were drive through only or not open yet. Thanks so much for all you did for me today read more

Super nice and honest guys. They do what they tell you they are going to do, they have fair pricing and get the job done in the timeline they proposed. Happy to find a reliable and honest auto repair service. read more

Been coming here for several years . They are direct and to the point. Fix what needs to be fixed, they don't invent things to fix just to upsell. Good quality work, honest and trustworthy. Reasonable prices. I just got my truck tuned up and they found several things that needed work and now the truck drives like new. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE, SAVE YOUR TIME/MONEY/ENERGY I left my car here to get work done and it had been sitting in their lot for almost a week with no update. I finally called to see what was going on and they had not even started working on my car. It was just sitting there while I was paying each day for a rental and I had to waste even more of my time to pick my car back up and bring it somewhere else. Everyone there was super nice but I'm extremely disappointed in the actual service. read more

went in this morning for some help installing an o-ring and Andy was very professional and polite! i stopped by a different mechanic near the police station and the owner was rude. but andy was very helpful from the beginning! thanks Andy! read more

Andy is an honest business operator who can be trusted to accurately diagnosis issues, make proper repairs, and will not attempt to over charge for something that is not needed. I have serviced vehicles here on many occasions including a full transmission replacement for my Roadtrek. I recommend this business without reservation. read more

Excellent work at a fair and honest price. Mechanics that can be trusted aren't always easy to find.

Huge thank you to Ben's Auto repair. A very good friend of mine recommended me there as her family had been going there for many years. Little did I know that I had an ongoing problem with my tires for the last year and a half and Ben truly saved my life and got me back on the road. He gave me a solid price and I was in and out within a few hours. My car hasn't run this smoothly since before my last tire servicing prior to my cross-country move out here and I feel a lot more confident about the drive back home. God Bless this place, truly. Ben, thank you so much again and I wish this place nothing but many more years of amazing service. read more

Best place to bring your vehicle if you want quality work done. Honest owner and mechanics. I know sometimes it can be a hassle going to mechanics but over here you know your car will got done the right way and they won't quote you outrageous prices. You know you're getting charged the right amount. Never had an issue come up immediately right after I left. Make sure you ask for Andy or Austin when you arrive. (Work performed on my vehicles: oil + filter change, spark plugs, head gasket, smog check, tranny pull, brakes, electrical) They've worked on about 6 cars of my cars read more

Ben's Auto Repair is the best auto Repair in town. My car's engine got smoked and Ben was very accommodating when working with me. He met me at the place where my car was towed at and examined the car. Ben diagnosed and fixed the car in 2 weeks. Now my car is running smoothly again. This is the place to go to get your car situation fixed read more

I have been going to Ben's Auto Repair for 7 years and I'm so glad I found them! Ben and his brother Andy are honest, knowledgeable, always kind, and the price is right! But the best thing is my peace of mind knowing I'm safe on the road. First time I was there I knew I was in the right place because while I sat in the waiting room I overheard other mechanics who were bringing their cars to be serviced here. They now service my son's work vehicles and the price is the same, fair and reasonable. read more

I was first made aware of Ben's Auto Repair about 3 years ago when I was doing Uber Ride share in Escondido. I kept picking up and dropping off customers several times a week from this business. Each would rave about their workmanship, honesty and reasonable prices. I have since been taking my Kia Optima there for all of my repairs. Ben and Andy, the owners have always been honest and first class when it comes to my repairs. I still drive Ride share so I put very hard miles on my vehicle and having an "HONEST" and reliable mechanic is invaluable. They have never tried to upsell me on any unnecessary repairs but have always pointed out when things will be needing repairs soon to prevent breakdowns and avoid any potential serious road failures during operation. Recently i was having a series of unexpected financial troubles. Just as that happened my car needed some somewhat expensive repair work. And I cannot promise this will happen to everyone as I know Ben and Andy are not in business to finance loans. But knowing i depend on my vehicle for income Andy arranged to complete the repairs and allowed me to pay him half the money at completion and the other half a few days later so that I could continue to earn my income. I dont know another mechanic in town that would do such a thing. At the risk of doubling their business and not being able to get in to see them when I need them I had to write this review. I cannot recommend Ben's Auto Repair more highly. Thank you Andy and Ben. Sincerely, Chris Wilkinson read more

Everything I have had done here has been top notch. Ben fixed an electrical problem that was present for 3 years from another mechanic and he had everything good to go in one day. Prices are very fair. i don't understand some of the bad reviews. Ben or Andy always tell me what will happen as far as repairs and costs. Any changes they always call. I recommend them every chance I get Very Satisfied read more

Was referred to this shop by a relative and had an expensive repair done. Was handed the car after the work was supposed to be completed without any explanation of the work that was performed. Car broke down again because the work was not completed properly. Took weeks to get our car back. Sloppy work and no communication equals bad survey... read more

HONEST, FRIENDLY & DEPENDABLE. Ben took care of my cars for years when I lived in North County. I've recommended him to several friends over the years. My cars are German as are my friend's cars- he works on all makes. Ben has done small jobs all the way up to swapping an engine out for me. You won't find a more knowledgeable, dependable and honest mechanic than Ben. And to top it all off he is a good guy who I am pleased to write about! read more

Brought car in to get oil change, some employee were rude when I requested service at th front desk. Had a whole tantrum, unprofessional. Was referred from a relative. Oil change was $90 for a couple thousand miles miles but a normal oil is 5-10K? It don't add up, never coming back, save yourselves money else where read more

My brakes were making a noise right when I back out of the driveway. I came in and then looked the car right away and told me that the brakes were fine and I didn't need to do anything. I really appreciate the honesty it takes to tell someone they don't actually need to hire you for to do anything at all. He refused to even let me pay for the quick diagnostic! read more

Very impressed with these guys! I had gotten a quote for AC repair from my regular mechanic for about $1500. My coworker suggested I call a mechanic friend of his, Austin, for a second opinion. Austin quoted me $1000 over the phone. I live near SDSU but for $500 savings I was more than willing to drive up to Escondido. And I'm sure glad I did. The guys were fantastic. I dropped off my car at 8 am and they had it back to me 3 hours later working perfectly. I was so appreciative of the quickness of the repair as I'm a single mom and have to pick up my kid at daycare by 5 pm in San Diego so I didn't have a full day to have it done. Best of all, they actually came in at $950. It ended up being about $600 savings (full original quote was $1544)! And as I was leaving, I was told "If ANYTHING goes wrong, bring it in immediately and we will fix it." Now that's customer service. It's no wonder these guys have such great yelp reviews. If I lived in the area, they would be my regular garage. I will definitely continue to use them for any major repairs and highly recommend them to others looking for a quality, honest mechanic. read more

Andy and Ben are Amazing! I have been a customer and so have my parents for over 10 years . The day before Christmas they took the time to fix my moms car for a small fee ( my mom had just passed away) I will never go anywhere else. Highly recommend Bens Auto read more

I called Andy at Ben's for a quote for a Heater Core. Quoted me a price and stuck to that price.( very rare in the automotive world) He was nice and friendly and gladly gave me a ride home. He had the job done in 1/2 a day. (Usually an all day job.) There price wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive. I am a small business owner myself and appreciate the lost art of real customer service. They will get my business again. read more

Honest mechanics with reasonable prices! I had my car taken there for changing the timing belt, suspension, tires and engine mount. They did a good job and they charged me less than what I was quoted for at another shop. Ben has been doing this for many years and his brother Andy has been helping out a lot for the past years. They're both honest and understand no one wants to break an arm and a leg to fix a car. Ben was test driving with me in the parking lot and just from the noise he already knew what's wrong. They are always busy so the turnaround time is a bit long. That's pretty much the only con I can think of. Make sure you call them before you drop off or pick up your car so you won't waste your time waiting around. They've been accommodating with my schedule though. The fact that they open on Saturdays for half day makes a huge difference! read more

These guys use to be great. Not sure what happen? The last time I was in their shop they replaced my fuel pump. I ended up having to go back 3 times because my check engine light wouldn't turn off . I did have the check engine light tested out by someone else and it ended up being directly related to the gas pump. I let Ben know this however all he wanted to do was replace the fuel pump and charge me for it . So now I will have pay someone to fix the problem they created. Also they replaced my water pump . After the work was done the guy never put coolent it in .Thank god I checked it when I got home. Ever since then it has done nothing but leak coolant. Be careful with these guys . Make sure you double check their work. read more

I had an excellent experience here. I first called him over the phone asking for a diagnostic for a used car I was checking out to buy in the area, and he was able to squeeze me in within a matter of minutes. Very kind, honest, and efficient mechanic. He saved me from wasting thousands of dollars on a car by providing me with a very thorough list of things that were problematic about the used car. One problem in particular that he pointed out was that there were fluids and oil leaking from the car between the transmission and oil. Additionally, he ran the plates and discovered other problems that he told me about. He is very knowledgeable and knows what he is doing, 10/10 would recommend. His prices are reasonable too. read more

Brought in my Acura recently, and noticed their lot was full, a good sign. After meeting ben, andy and his son i felt very confident, price wise and by their shop atmosphere, leaving my car here. To my surprise, their family owned shop did wonders on my car, they went above and beyond with repairs and smog on all aspects, bumper-to-bumper, on my car. I HIGHLY recommend Bens Automotive. This will be the shop i use in the future! read more

I used to go to the Toyota dealer to get all my repair work done to my old Sienna, but now I go here. Ben and Andy are great mechanics who charge a great price. They helped me realize I was getting charged way too much by the Toyota dealer. They have a solid work ethic and great attitude. I enjoy that it's a small family business. They seem to know a lot of their customers and are very friendly. I didn't think they would remember me my second time in because it had been months, but they did as soon as they saw me. read more

Great customer service, diagnosis and repair with out being outrageously priced. I'm always hesitant when going to take my car to the shop this side of the border, just because frankly I always get gouged. This was not the case at this auto repair shop that was recommended by my dad. My car needed to pass the smog test and had the check engine light on. They fixed my small evap leak, which was due to the previous owner of my car installing the gas tank wrong which led to it breaking, they dropped the tank and repaired my existing one. Both my car door locks were tricky and the driver side door handle was broken and had to be open from the outside. To top it off the trunk lock was stuck shut. Got my gas tank sealed and repositioned, both door lock buttons repaired, door handles repaired, trunk lock repaired and resmog thrown in for no additional fee...all for $385, I think this was more than reasonable!!! This place now has another loyal customer. Definitely will be coming back here if going down to tijuana is not an option. Bring your car here, you won't regret it. read more

I wouldn't recommend taking your car here. My experience was a nightmare that I'm still dealing with. I had the worst experience with these people. They lack customer service in every sense of the word. I got a $3500 repair here and they took way longer than it should have, never called me to update me at all, LEFT BLACK OIL FINGER STREAKS AND HANDPRINTS ON MY INTERIOR. The coolant tank that wasn't even a part of the issue became one of the main issues and will not stop leaking and causing issues. They claimed they replaced the tank but it is obvious they did not and completely ripped me off. They are extremely sketchy. The "repair" they did was not sufficient, I had to take it back to get the whole thing done again luckily it was under warranty but bc I wasn't handing over any more money to them they wouldn't work on my car FOR MONTHS. Andy kept ducking my calls and every time I would call to talk with him he'd be "not available" and I was without a car this whole time. When finally going to pick up my car he was too much of a pussy to talk to me and disappeared and sent a mechanic out to talk to me instead that had no idea what was going on. After all of this bullshit the problem was never even solved and I am still trying to fix the issue. I would never ever recommend this shop to any one. Do not go here. read more

My wife introduced me to Behn (actual spelling of his name) over 8 years ago when we were just dating and we still take our cars to him, now. He has always been fair with his pricing and as stated by another reviewer he is honest about what things could cost us, for better or worse. Even being in Santa Ana with car problems we are still going to make the trip down to Escondido to have him look at our vehicles for any repairs. read more

I was to told of this place by a friend...had some problems with my brakes. I was told to ask for Andy...I was greeted with a warm welcome from the start. Andy listened to everything I said when I was explaining what was wrong with my car. I come from the automotive industry...so this isn't my 1st rodeo. I was honestly expecting to get the run around like usual. Andy came back with a super fair quote for the work and even though they were super busy...he got me in and my truck on the lift right away. I will tell many people about Ben's and the great customer service I experienced. Felt like part of the family. I have a new mechanic!! Yes!! Thanks again Andy! I hope I wont need to come back ....but I will come here for ANY of my automotive needs. **** 5 stars all day! read more

Extremely rude. Tried to change the price he quoted. We will never go to this place again. Went in for a few thing but now I have to go to another shop to fix what they did to my brakes. Beware! Pretty sure most of these reviews are fake and paid for. read more

Absolute shock and surprise to say the least. Long story short I was told by another shop in town that will remain unnamed *cough* west escondido *cough* that my alternator died, they quoted me close to $550. My roommate suggested I check out Bens, so, reluctantly I did. Turns out my alternator belt slipped off! Turns out that was all that was wrong, I ended up replacing it and my serpentine belt, since both were old and they were so honest, for around $120, they even topped off my oil and fluids at not extra charge! While I was waiting for repairs, this guy from Texas came in with issues he thought was his Jeeps suspension. Complaints of bad sounds and vibrations while he was driving. Turns out the people who did his last tire change didn't tighten the lug-nuts! These guys are honest, there is a reason why so many people bring their cars here. Just got a customer for life from me. -D.Rose read more

For whatever reason, Ben was apparently not interested in my business. I stopped in twice to ask about a simple repair and was met with rudeness and an uncooperative spirit each time. Quite disappointing, especially since I was referred by an old customer of his whom he (Ben) acknowledged working with for over 15 years. I also feel that he tried to "up" the repair that was required needlessly. To my knowledge, when one motor mount needs to be replaced it isn't customary to replace them all, but that's what he maintained. Perhaps there just isn't enough money involved when working on old '88 Camrys. But the other guy has an old Camry, too, so go figure. Must be me. Oh well, Ben, I guess that's the way things go. You obviously don't need my business. read more
