My experience with Inside Out was stellar from beginning to the end. Shawn was super prompt from the start. This is not usual in this market. After touring my home and discussing the project I had in mind he had a detailed multi-page proposal for me. The first bed I received from a contractor was literally an email that went something like, Kitchen: 15k, Bathroom: 10k, Garage: 15k...Not very assuring. Shawn and his team were assuring from the get go. Communication with everyone on the team from his right-hand man, Oscar, and design wiz, Sara, to the plumber and electrician were streamlined by use of an app called Slack they use. This was so useful when you are working on a mult-month job and always have a ton of little questions or concerns. I could easily just shoot it out into the app and anyone on his team could respond. I loved that. And these guys are top-notch. Oscar did some amazing things in here. When we found an unexpected load-bearing beam, he expertly engineered a huge beam across the near-length of the kitchen that allowed us to fully open up the area...without hiring an engineer (my decision). That thing was solid. Then he took my dated fireplace and lathered it in multiple layers of concrete and mortar to make what is now a piece of modern art. Sara and Shawn both have an eye for design. When I sent a photo of one of my bathrooms to a friend she told me it looked with the W. In a few areas of the house they kind of nudged me to let them have some artistic leave and I am so glad they did. My master bath is now a study in what you should do for any small bathroom space and my laundry room has added about 100+ square feet to the home and functions as a mud room. All of the contractors he works with are exceptional as well. I will always use David O from Make it Drain plumbing and Irvin with Retiz Electric. Both of these guys are masters of their trades and very friendly and reliable too. Overall, I could not recommend Shawn and his team more. It was an honor to work with these guys. Shawn and his team handled my remodel this spring and I could not be happier!!! My house went from literally drab and plain to a total eye catcher. I worked with Shawn on the design and he was always openminded about what I wanted to do and willing to provide suggestions or recommendations. His team of subcontractors did quality work and were respectful of me and my home. I had lots of people in and out of my house and had full trust in them. Most importantly, Shawn is an excellent communicator. He is always a text or phone call away, and would make time in his busy schedule to drop by the house and meet with me as needed. I have heard horror stories from my friends of contractors who disappear in the middle of a project or fail to respond to requests for updates or questions. I had none of these problems with Shawn. My renovation turned into a much bigger project in terms of the amount of changes that were made, but it never felt hopeless or endless, and the end result made it all worth it. We couldn't have been happier with Inside Out. Shawn and Oscar were great to deal with, they were responsive, fair in their pricing, and very transparent at every step of the project. We had two full bathroom remodels, and a few replacement door installations along with a variety of troubleshooting projects in our 1950's era home that came with a lot of 1950's era problems. Shawn's team was very professional and courteous - we were home for the vast majority of their work, and we always felt like they took care to treat our home with respect and concern. Their end-product was fantastic, but I think my biggest compliment for them is that both Shawn and Oscar were concerned about getting things right. There were several parts of the projects that we had concerns with, and they were excellent at listening to us and ultimately making sure things were done correctly - and several times during walkthroughs Shawn or Oscar spotted something without us having to bring it up and made sure it was fixed. Shawn and his team did a great job with our kitchen remodel. We are so happy with the result and it came a long way from where it started. We bought a 1959 house that needed a lot of work. The kitchen was tiny! And every single appliance was in an awkward location. Shawn and his team helped envision a brand new layout--including knocking down a closet and wall--to create the kitchen of our dreams. Like with any major renovation project, you expect the inevitable hiccup or two, but honestly, very few things went wrong with our project. I found this company on Yelp. I am remodeling my house almost 100%...a very large job. I was very pleased with Shawn on the original consultation. He was the only company out of 5 that charged a consultation fee...which is fair. His company was in the top two companies I was deciding to hire. However, his attitude was not acceptable and as a result, it made my decision very clear on disqualifying him from pursuing the project with him. A large part of a successful partnership is communication. He actually told me that if I didn't go with his company to fix prior work done, his company wouldn't work with me. Long overdue review. Shawn, Oscar, and team did a full renovation on my duplex, 2 brand new kitchens, 2 full baths, and 2 half baths. With the Austin real estate market being what it is right now (expensive), I knew I'd need to buy a fixer upper to get what I wanted! Once I bought the property I had a few general contractors through for bids. The Inside Out crew was by far the best fit. Wow wow wow! We cannot say enough great things about Shawn and the entire IOC team! This was our first remodel and we had no idea what we were doing. In addition to doing AMAZING work, Shawn provided guidance and patience with us along the way. Our project consisted of an entire primary bathroom remodel, a brand-new half bath, new floors and paint throughout the house, new kitchen countertops, and a new built-in pantry. We contracted Shawn in May 2019 to build out our backyard. It was an incredible mistake and we continue to pay for it. Everything that could go wrong, went wrong. From leaving our backyard exposed (we had no fencing) to an outgoing alley for weeks on end because he failed to purchase an adequate amount of wood (yes, his crew confirmed this to us), to leaving our granite tabletop leaning on a wooden two-by-four and calling it "finished," to being four months late on the project delivery, to failing to communicate project delays at each and every turn, to our overhead lighting continuing not to work 1 year after the project was finished, it's clear Shawn could care less about his customers and their investment. Shawn never took responsibility or made himself accountable for any of his repeated delays and mistakes. His attitude and behavior at every turn throughout the process were completely unprofessional and abysmal. IOC recently helped us convert a large dated bonus room into a mud entry, bedroom and full bath along with several other improvements including adding a pocket door to create an ensuite bath, interior paint, flooring, etc. in other areas of the house. Recently, Shawn and his team did a great job on our kitchen remodel which included updating countertops, flooring, and the expansion of our kitchen pantry. The pantry expansion was especially significant because it involved moving the existing pantry wall to encompass an adjoining shower-stall and bedroom closet. Our entire experience was very positive starting with our first interaction with Shawn. He responded almost immediately to our Yelp quotation request and showed interest in our project despite the fact that it was only a partial remodel. The IOC crew led by Oscar did high-quality work and were very easy to work with in terms of friendliness and understanding our goals. They offered constructive suggestions which helped us achieve a beautiful kitchen that we are all enjoying. The workmanship of sheetrock work and paint was very apparent (Thanks Daniel !) and we expanded the original bid to include repairing water-damage in other parts of the house. I recently hired Shawn's company for a master bathroom remodel. I had gotten a couple of other quotes from different groups, and I finally decided to get the job done. One of the main things I can say about Shawn's crew, is that they are very consistent and punctual about the times they arrive. This is more than can be said about many other contractors. Also, they have a crew that is pretty much always the same, instead of constantly using subs, which gets very old. Oscar, Chris, Freddy, etc. (hope I spelled his name correctly) are all very courteous and respectful. My bathroom was in really rough shape, and had to have alot of rotted wood replaced in the shower stall, but it looks amazing now. I just wish the rest of my 1984 house looked alike, but a little at a time it will get done. Aside from a couple of communication issues that we had, that Shawn and I discussed rationally at the end of the project, I had no problems with them, and they do great work. read more

He answered all the questions I had and his price was very reasonable for the work when compared to a few other quotes we had. Only one other quote was cheaper, but that company also had lower reviews on Yelp so we decided to go with Shawn. So happy that we did! His crew did a great job and did the work so quickly. The consultation and actual work were extremely easy to schedule. We were even able to add on a small project of knocking out an arch over the entry hall while they were working on taking out the wall. They had no problem tacking that on and both projects look amazing. My husband and I were both very impressed. These guys went above and beyond and I would recommend Inside Out to anyone.
