One of the best restaurants in town! The food is delicious and creative. The staff are diverse, kind and friendly. The chicken and the sauces are life-changing and all of the sides are delicious--a perfect family dinner. Other favorites are the Causa Limena and if you're in a beef mood the Lomo Saltado is a delicious sirloin plate. This was a unique experience for me. I had the rotisserie chicken. It came with two tortillas (or a bread roll). The chicken was moist and good. The skin was a unique taste. Wow. First time here, came here because I drove by a day ago and thought the sign and the name were cool. Was thinking about grabbing some "chic fil a" then I remembered seeing this interesting spot and figured "what the heck, try new things".... and OMG this place is fire. I can't wait to come back when I am not full and eat more. The chicken was tender and spiced so nicely, the cilantro rice and beans were bomb and I tried the corn side which was good too (but not my fav of the bunch). I also got plantains for a later snack...that didn't really make it back without a severe dent in the pile, so freaking delicious. And the service was so nice, he answered all my questions and let me try a sample. Did not disappoint! The place is clean too and has a neat little (what I assume to be) Peruvian vibe. I have known about this place for at least a decade. I never actually went there till today. Well, that was a decade of missed opportunity! This place is amazing! * Most commercial rotisserie chicken in the US is not good. The only rotisserie chicken I have ever loved came out of a delicatessen in Rio de Janeiro. Inka's chicken blows away my place in Rio de Janeiro, putting it number one on my Global List. The chicken comes with a fine pepper sauce and a fine herb-ed mayonnaise. They are lovely, but I frankly prefer the chicken all by itself with no distractions. It has a magnificent char, but the skin is redolent with herbs and spices The char taste will take you to the moon. The grease factor (a curse of rotisserie chickens) is near zero. Not totally zero but pretty damn low. The meat is filled with chicken taste. Inka's also has the whole run of Peruvian side dishes, and offers Peruvian desserts and Peruvian beverages - sometimes on an informal "special dish on a cardboard sign on the cash register" basis. I suspect those other dishes are well worth doing. But this is the best chicken in Austin that I know of - until you are patronizing the upper end of the fine dining estabishments. There's a new bird in town and it can be found at Inka. Well, they aren't that new. These guys are featuring charcoal rotisserie chicken with Peruvian flare accompanied with some sides. Sides that are presented buffet style, but, are not self-service. I'm ok with the chicken. Rotisserie is what it is. Usually a little dry on the breasts no matter where you get it. I'll definitely give it to these guys for the chicken. Certainly better than Mighty Bird. As for the sides? My favorites are the fried plantains and black beans and rice. That right there is the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Eaten together, they balance each other nicely. As for the other sides? I've not tried except for the Yucca fries, which are awesome, but, only if you eat them there. They don't do so well as a to go item. My problem with the sides, and it costs them a couple stars, is they are only "fresh" at certain times. Such has been my experience anyway. I got there at 1500ish one day and all of the pans were at their limits with food quantity. The mac n cheese was stuck to the sides of the pans as was the case with some of the other offerings. Gross. Would I recommend Inka? Oh yes, if only for the chicken itself. This place is different, and, certainly puts its stamp in the fast food chicken industry. Come here, allow your palette to be cultured. I recommend getting the chicken (like there's another meat option, Duh!) black beans and rice, and, the fried plantains. Pull the chicken, and, mix it into the beans and rice. Make sure to take a bite of plantain with each bite! ENJOY!! read more

When I saw the sign go up for a new rotisserie chicken place with a Peruvian twist, I couldn't help but be excited to try something new. So, on opening day, we headed down to try out Wells Branch's newest addition, Inka Chicken. After reviewing the menu, we decided to order just chicken and add on our sides separately becuase neither of us drink soda and just wanted water. ORDERING / 1st APPEARANCES I ordered the 1/4 chicken, white meat with a premium side. He ordered 1/2 a chicken with a regular side. The chicken looked amazing as our server was cutting it up...plump and juicy and the smells were incredible! The pricing for the chicken is very reasonable as well...$3.49 for a 1/4 chicken beats Bill Miller's (BM) price of $4.99....$5.69 if you want white meat. Their 1/2 chicken was right on par at 6.49 same as Miller's. On to the sides... this is where I had my first disappointment. Serving alongside of this mouth-watering chicken were somewhat non-traditional sides. (I say non-traditional becuase I would find it hard to believe that Peruvians eat french fries, mac & cheese, corn on the cob, and pasta salad.) They did offer basmati rice and mashed potatoes which might be more traditional but perhaps not in the style offered. For an additional .75 you could upgrade your side to something more traditional in the Yucca fries or the fried plantains, or something healthier with their fresh salad or vegetable medley. I opted for the vegetable medley since the looks of their salad options were pretty scarce...although I should mention that the veggies were pretty much just "frozen mixed blend" consisting of carrots, green beans, red peppers, and some broccoli. On top of the options for sides being a bit disappointing was the price: $1.89 for a regular side, $2.64 for a premium side. This is about .40 more for a regular portion at the before mentioned BBQ joint....and even there I can get a pint of one of their sides for less than a premium side here at Inka's. Ok, selections made, we went to check out. Doing the math we opted to forgo the combo meal since we didn't want the soda and just get the chicken and side: Combo Route: 1/4 Chicken Combo: $6.49 (1/4 chicken, 1 side, drink) 1/2 Chicken Combo: $9.49 (1/2 chicken, 1 side, drink) Total:16.73 + tax: $18.11 (this includes the extra .75 for my premium side) Our Route: 1/4 Chicken: $3.49 1/2 Chicken: $6.49 Reg side: 1.89 Premium side: 2.64 Total for our order: 14.51+tax: $15.71 Unfortunately, we could not get the kid at the register to understand that we just got the chicken and sides...NOT the combo....so we ended up paying more than we should have. We thought about taking it up with a manager but it was opening day and the kids were new at the registered....they all looked a bit scared and tired at the same time...so we just let it slide...this time. :o) TASTE The chicken was great....very moist and full of flavor. I opted to pull most of the skin of of mine simply for health reasons but I did taste one piece and the seasonings were rich and bold....very enjoyable. They also offer two sauces, hot and mild, which I found amusing becuase I expected them to be similar with just heat variances. However, they are totally different. The hot sauce is not really that hot, but being an native Texan and believing that jalapenos are one of the main food groups, it could just be my preferences. The flavor of this sauce was wonderful...a little spicy and good jalapeno flavor....reminded me a little of salsa without too much tomato. The mild sauce was more of a mustard style sauce that I found good but not as much as the spicy one. The side were as unmemorable as my first thoughts of them....mashed potatoes were pretty plain as they usually are and veggies not having a ton of flavor either. I suppose I should have opted for the yucca fries or the plantains but I tend to stay away from fried foods and I already knew I didn't like fried plantains.... DESERTS I didn't get one but they did have the following available: Tres Leches Key Lime Cheesecake Choc Chipolte Torte Inka's Delight Flan Soft Ice Cream CONCLUSION I think that this place will be great for picking up some tasty chicken via the drive through for a quick dinner at home but probably not much more than that.... I hope that they decide to update their sides just a bit to include more traditional (or at least traditionally prepared) options or at least bring the prices down a bit.... $2.64 is just a bit much for a portion of once-frozen veggies without much flavor. my two cents. This is food nirvana...I love this place and try to come here as much as possible. I don't really care for the sides, they are great but the family really just enjoys the chicken...On the way home from work, I'll pick up two whole birds, which come out to about 13 bucks. We eat one and the other is pulled apart for sandwiches, or wraps for lunch the next day. Make sure to load up on sauces as well, they offer two types, neither of which is very spicy but both go great with the chicken. I try to get a couple of cans of Inca soda as well, it's perfect with the chicken. The customer service is amazing. We are always offered samples. The tables and restaurant are always clean and very inviting. They have a drive thru, but sometimes I go inside just for the service. We'd been missing Peruvian Chicken since moving from the East Coast and after calling around all over Austin we found that Inka is the only place in town that does the full chicken family meals. PROS - The food is outstanding - The Salchipappas are a must - Family run business with exceptional service - They cater CONS - There is only one and it's far up north The owner mentioned they work with DoorDash, Favor, UberEats so I might have to try that next time. On this occasion I ordered 4-5 chickens for a large family gathering and due to I35 Traffic I was late picking up so they remade part of the meal! I didn't ask them to, it was my fault I wasn't there on time but they wanted it to be "fresh" so they remade it and offered me a free soda while I waited. Tired of the plain old rotisserie chicken from Walmart and HEB? Well, come to Inca Chicken and experience something new. I have no idea how Peruvian foods are supposed to taste like but they got some good flavor in these chickens. The main item on the menu is obviously the chicken (quarter, half, or whole) but the sides are just as unique and important. Besides the usual rice, beans, and veggies, they also have mac-n-cheese, fried plantains, and these things called yucca fries. I asked what a yucca is and apparently it's like a healthier version of a potato. Whether that's true or not, it's a must-try item. It's a little drier and starchier than regular potato fries but if they served these at other fast food places, I would definitely get them. If it's your first time, they'll also give you a sample cup of their side items to try. There are several combo options to structure you meal. A whole chicken with 2 sides are quite enough for 2 people. They even have a drive-thru window b/c their services are fast enough to accommodate for the speed. Highly recommended, though I did find the seasoning to be a little too salty at times (but I do tend to have a lighter flavor profile). Oh, and free ice cream cone if you check-in on Yelp! SO GOOD! My husband is not a fan of rotisserie chicken. He finds it too bland. And yet I somehow talked him into trying Inka Chicken with the promise of flavor. And Inka Chicken met that promise with some super flavorful food! I was a little hesitant until we stepped out of the car and smelled the flavor before even entering the building. You know it's going to be good right in the parking lot! I ordered a 2-piece meal with one side. Got the yucca fries and the spicy sauce. I've had mealy weird yucca fries, but these are perfect. Nice change from regular fries and they go great with the sauces. I also tried their passion fruit limeade, which was AMAZING! So sweet and tasty, it was a perfect pairing with the chicken. Oh dear God, the chicken. You just have to try it. You won't regret it, I promise. My husband got the 1/2 chicken with fried plantains and corn. The corn was really, really good. The plantains were alright, but really not either of our cup of tea. We also got corn tortillas to share. My husband made a kind of soft taco with his food and the tortillas. I dipped my tortillas in the mild sauce. The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is because they seemed very unorganized. As time progressed more people started showing up, which is a great thing obviously. But it seemed to take FOREVER to move people along. Example: We ordered tortillas with our meal and noticed after getting to the table that they hadn't made it onto the receipt. I went and stood in line and waited way too dang long while the couple in front if me took their sweet time looking at the menu and slowly placing their order. Sure, we all want them to be happy, but maybe the restaurant needs to invest in a second register to speed the process along for all the customers. The cashier was really nice though and just let me have the tortillas. Anyway, my review is way too long. Very very good charcoal rotisserie chicken by a stand-alone business. We enjoyed eating 2 quarter-of-a-chicken combos with yucca fries and plantains, they also gave us each a small sample cup of black beans, yucca fries, plantain, and basmati rice....all the sides were off the hook....they give you 2 vastly different sauces for dipping or guzzling, whichever suits your fancy...guzzle for me, one has nice flavor and the darker colored sauce has some good heat to it, me likey! Next time i'm going with the half chicken combo. If you check into this business on Yelp, they'll give you a free ice cream cone with honey drizzled all over it....another very nice concept. The food is so good! We ordered a ton of stuff because we had never been before and wanted to try it all. We will definitely be back! They also have a drive thru which is great while we deal with covid 19. The woman working the window was super sweet and helpful and didn't rush us at all. I asked the cashier if the chicken was fresh and hot, because I saw a tray with chicken pieces that looked a bit old, her response was a not very friendly "everything is fresh and hot". Ok I said let's try this, at the same time I was ordering someone grabbed a couple of chicken pieces and put them back on the oven that sits in front of everybody to reheat them!!!! Really????
