However the ultrasound doctor strongly advised to give birth at a hospital. At the time we didn't understand why or the urge to sway us away from the birthing center. When we told the midwive she immediately tried getting rid of me as a patient. I had to call around different doctor offices trying to be seen at 39 weeks which was impossible to get an appointment. My husband finally bugged the midwife enough for her to tell me to "go to a hospital, lie about having contractions" that she would make a call and have some random doctor that I've never met claim me as his patient for me to be admitted. We were left with no doctor, no help, no answers, told to lie to medical staff. It was completely stressful. No medical facility should ever treat someone like this ! Especially someone who is pregnant . It turns out that OUR midwive was responsible for the death of a baby during labor. 3 months prior to my delivery. Along with a list of previous medical misconduct. In the end we lucked out with a healthy baby, but literally shame on all of you. Wow. What an amazing home birth experience. First of all,…read morelet me express my gratitude to all the midwives at Aurora. They are all kind, highly experienced, knowledgeable, and relatable. It's hard to come across a practice where ALL the providers are top notch. Usually there's one great provider with the others being mediocre at best. That's not the case here! Regardless of who ends up being the midwife when you give birth, you won't be disappointed! Secondly, I am extremely thankful for their ability to provide modern care with a holistic approach. The reason I chose Aurora is because they are truly up-to-date on natural approaches to pregnancy management and what is considered safe vs not. Most modern providers don't give you advice on nutrition, natural pain management (because that doesn't exist), nor do they make sure you are ok mentally. From my previous pregnancy, where I received care from an OB at another practice, I was treated as if pregnancy was a medical condition and the provider never asked for consent. They used scare tactics to talk me into getting things and doing things that I would never normally agree to. With Aurora, they take pride in asking consent for every single action before doing so. I had never experienced care where they actually consider the individual's values and opinions and not just their educated beliefs. Lastly, the whole experience of the birth was amazing and enlightening. During my first pregnancy, many things went haywire and it felt very much like a medical procedure. With Aurora, my birth at home was very peaceful and hands off. The midwives assured me every step along the way to trust my body and to do what it was asking me to do. By trusting them and listening to my body's intuition, I was able to have the best, quickest birth at home with my husband and toddler! Overall, I would give them 10/10 and recommend Aurora Midwifery to any momma who is currently pregnant. Although it's most likely my last pregnancy, I would choose Aurora time and time again for pregnancy care.

After a glowing recommendation from an OB I work with and trust I decided to look into birthing with Mary. From the first visit Mary and Ellen conveyed confidence, compassion, experience and humor. It was clear that a safe birth was the top priority even over achieving a home birth if necessary. Her experience and philosophy of birth gave us confidence in trusting her with our care. Best decision ever. During labor Mary was so in tune with me and my progress she recommended a cervical check at just the right time to address a stall on progress caused by my posterior cervix. This timely intervention saved me from potential hours of exhausting and unproductive labor. After just 5 hours and in the comfort of my own home our daughter was born into Mary's loving hands. During pushing Mary took care to prevent perineal lacerations and after delivery she took steps to mitigate risk of postpartum hemorrhage for which I have a history. Both allowed me to experience the best postpartum recovery yet! By the time Mary and Ellen left, my daughter and I were clean and fed, our home looked as if nothing had even happened and I got to sleep in my own bed knowing help, advice and encouragement was just a text away. Mary is truly invested in the care and wellbeing of her moms and babies from the first visit through the postpartum period and beyond. Hearing Mary speak of her identity as a midwife is inspiring. To her midwifery is a calling, a way of life and a service to her community. It's a part of who she is to the core. I am so thankful to her and can't imagine birthing any other way.

So, about 10 weeks before I was due I started the search for another doula and came across both Lora, and Chelsea, individually. I contacted them and they let me know they had recently teamed up and were available. We had a zoom call with them and my husband and I decided to book them for our August birth. Chelsea & Lora came for a home visit in June, so we could meet them and discuss initial ideas about my labor/birth/etc. They both brought their individual strengths and so much knowledge. They then came back a few weeks before I was due to discuss plans for when i went into labor, comfort measures, etc. They were both there any other time my husband and I had a question throughout the whole process as well. I had a long, long (44 hour) labor and we (mainly my husband) were in contact with Chelsea/Lora the entire time. About 22 hours in, once the pain had gotten pretty bad, Lora came to our house at 8pm. She quietly supported us and helped get through the contractions. At midnight, Chelsea swapped in so Lora could get some rest. Chelsea encouraged me to keep moving and try different things to help progress labor. When we thought it was time to go to the birth center, Chelsea came with us. When I finally ended up being admitted, Lora was the doula who ultimately joined us at the birth center- and spent over 12 hours there with us. I had mentioned during one of our previous meetings that I would love it if the doula who was present could snap some pictures during the day of labor/birth- I wasn't looking for anything too fancy or professional but just wanted some iphone pics. Lora went above and beyond, using her own camera to take lots of pictures and a video of the birth- which we haven't seen yet but are so excited for! Both Lora & Chelsea truly went above and beyond, and are a perfect complementary team. They came for a 2 week postpartum visit and it felt like having friends over to meet the baby- we cannot recommend them and their services enough & will definitely be using them for baby 2!

Diane and Belinda are educated, caring, and very intentional when it comes to the care for both mom and baby. Finding Willow birth center was an answered prayer. The purpose of updating my review is the transparency of the billing team or whoever is in charge of finances over there. NOT GOOD. Bad enough to dampen the overall experience. With our first child, we left with a $1000 credit that no one told us about until we went back with our second child. We were overcharged and not told. With our second child, we chose to use insurance which helped, because our insurance team was able to help us keep track of the tasks that they were billing for. With our third and fourth child, we were only able to receive prenatal care. WHICH I AM SO GRATEFUL, Willow is the most comforting and reassuring group of midwives in Arizona (in my personal experience) However, from our first appointment with Willow for our third and fourth children, we were told by both them, and by our insurance company that all of my prenatal care was completely covered.... MY KIDS WERE BORN IN AUGUST AND IT IS DECEMBER AND WE ARE STILL RECEIVING BILLS FROM THEM. I HAVE CALLED THE FINANCE TEAM, WILLOW, AND THE NUMBER ON THE EMAIL TRYING TO BILL US. WE HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A CALLBACK. THIS IS MY REVIEW AND MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, HOWEVER, THE FRIENDS THAT I'VE SENT TO WILLOW TO HAVE BABIES ARE STILL STRUGGLING WITH THE FINANCE TEAM A LITERAL YEAR AFTER HAVING THEIR CHILDREN. When I go to have my fifth child, God willing, I would so quickly call Rachel and Rubyan for a home birth if they have those qualifications by then, *wink wink* My suggestion is, if you choose Willow, WHICH I DO HIGHLY RECOMMEND, pay upfront in cash. Do not mess with their finance team. Not because you won't win, but because you'll be fighting a long time and that's the last thing any family or new mother needs postpartum. ***side note, all the first time moms upset about being sent home... that's totally normal to have a long birth. Your body has literally never had a baby before. With my first baby, I was sent home twice during my 19 hour labor. Healthy 9 pounder was born at 41 weeks and 6 days. STOP. BLAMING. YOUR. MIDWIFE!!!

My labor was long and intense, many hours of unmedicated labor and when we faced a sudden pivot to a C-section due to our baby's position, Amy was our anchor. She walked us through every single step, making sure I still felt informed and in control during a situation where control felt lost. What I appreciate most was her deep empathy, she sat with me and gave me the space to grieve the change in my birth plan and be scared. She didn't rush me past those feelings. When my husband wasn't allowed in the prep room, Amy was right there by my side. In the scariest moments, she held my hand, answered every question, and kept me grounded. Her calm energy is unmatched, and at times it honestly felt like she could read my mind. That wasn't just luck. This was because of how thoroughly she prepared with us beforehand. She took the time to truly learn how I process pain and what I need in high-pressure situations. She was just as important for my husband as she was for me, offering him constant reassurance. When our baby was born, he was able to leave my side to follow our baby with complete ease, knowing I wasn't alone and that Amy was taking care of me. Amy is extraordinary at what she does. If you are looking for a doula who is fiercely supportive, deeply prepared, and intuitive, hire Amy immediately.

What about your wife asking for EMS when a call should have happened 14 mins prior? Gas lit and told it was only a minute or two. Thank GOD for EMS records! TIME IS BRAIN. Emergence isn't qualified for EMERGENCY. My family travailed the tension of life and death in our story, and while satisfactory, and normal physiologic experiences are great, hearing how licensed medical professionals handle dire, forlorn clinical scenarios is of utmost importance in precisely displaying a facet of skill and level of care that literally cannot be displayed at any other time, other than conjuncture. Making my testimony especially meaningful. If you had no complications, you can't speak to the things I can, because quite frankly both my baby and wife faced life endangering encounters and the assumed ability to manage such was sorely lacking, from not 1 but 2 tenured midwives who attended my wife's delivery. You could statistically bank on the likelihood of a normal birth and be fine BUT when it's not fine, it is catastrophically and preventably not fine. Survival bias is real. CNM owner Nancy has an open investigation with her board as well. As I arrive at the office and am getting ready to get out of my car, I receive a text stating that the Dr. was ill and would not be in that day. I went in and told them I was not happy with them and then got an appointment for the following Monday. This appointment was very disappointing as I found out that my message was not forwarded to the Dr. or the Office Manager so what I was asking for was not there. Trust is the foundation of midwifery care, and East Valley Midwifery completely shattered mine. Throughout my care, there was a noticeable lack of communication, empathy, and attentiveness. My concerns were frequently dismissed, and I often felt unheard and invalidated. This wasn't just disappointing - it was harmful. The very people who should have provided reassurance and guidance during such a vulnerable time instead left me feeling isolated and anxious. But the most devastating part was how their negligence directly contributed to a traumatic birth experience - one that no family should have to endure. Their failure to provide proper care, coupled with their dismissive attitude, caused lasting emotional distress that I'm still working to heal from. No parent should have to experience what I did. When you choose a midwife, you're placing your trust in them to safeguard both you and your baby. Unfortunately, East Valley Midwifery has proven they cannot be trusted with that responsibility. I strongly recommend choosing a hospital for your birth, where you can receive the care of an experienced medical team, including doctors who are equipped to handle every aspect of your delivery with competence and compassion. Because of my experience with East Valley Midwifery, I would not recommend midwifery care at all - the risk simply isn't worth it. Please think twice before choosing this practice. Especially if you are a person of color, or in an interracial relationship. There are better, safer options out there - ones that will treat you with the respect, care, and professionalism you deserve during such an important time in your life.
